    Hello!! Hey, you are anchored in Combarro!! The sailboat with which I practice regattas also has its mooring in the port of Combarro. What a joy it gives me to know that you are in my land. I hope your GPS works well and that you enjoy a lot in Galicia. Greetings and good winds.

    We loved the images of town in this weeks episode but it was too short! More of that atmospheric photography please. Also like that you guys find a bit of local food to obsess over as you cruise. Great work as usual….you should make shirts that say “I’m sure I’m butchering that”😂

    You should put a nylon wheel beside you anchor. It should be cheap enough, run on that bolt nicely and will protect the line

    While the boat is on the hard, paint large eyes on the rudder to scare away orcas. Just a thought but there might be some sort of pattern to camouflage the rudder and make it more invisible.

    Madds, you might find that even thought the radar is at a different frequency that it interferes with the GPS. (Just the power from the transmitter can cause it to happen) If you notice it all you will need to do is slide the GPS about 5 feet farther up the mast and that should give you enough separation.

    They make hard rubber bumpers that fit on small boat trailers for the boat to bump into after its winched onto the trailer. They usually have a 1/2 inch hole to run a bolt thru to mount them on the trailer. They are very tough and would work great for what you want to do.

    15:58 a pallet wheel might fit that "shaft" perfectly. Not sure on spacing, but you can narrow them down. They make for excellent pulley wheels. Cut a nice groove with a grinder down the center and smooth it out with a bit of sand paper and they're perfect for soft line (even steel braided stuff doesn't wear them that much).

    Even without a heading sensor you should be able to use the auto- helm, albeit with fewer functions. Point the boat in the heading you want and it should hold that heading.

    The cost of boat ownership in the UK, now there is topic. Largely down to the fees marinas can get away with charging. The Garmin seems like another neat box of tricks. I know people have commented on it before but with complexity comes some risk of losing it all with a lightning strike. I am sure you would cope fine as you have built it all and your technical abilities are top notch. If you check out sailing with Thomas YT channel he has a fully equipped Bavaria 55 and is now going through this nightmare. Beware of what you may lose and perhaps consider planning for the eventuality.

  • @fstenius
    @fstenius 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You didn't describe the sound from the rudder, but depending on the rudder and hull shape some boats start to resonate at higher speeds. The sound is usually lower in frequency than failing bearings, which i'm sure you are familiar with 😉The resonance shouldn't be anything to worry about, and i'm sure someone with more expertise in hydrodynamics can explain why this occurs

  • @millzee60
    @millzee60 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a similar issue with my rudder in that under motor the helm seems stiff or sticky. It's fine under sail though. I hauled out this afternoon and will investigate tomorrow. Be interesting to know what you find. Also, I was anchored in that same spot a few weeks ago, it is tiny. Marina Punta Lagoa is just around the corner and has a very good yard. Not that that is any use to you now.

    If you're going to stays for days inland in Galicia, IIRC, they have some free (in the wilderness) hotsprings.
    I posted two comments but I think they got deleted because they had a link. I wanted to let you know that the spanish orca's observatory have information on the orcas (like last known location). Search for "orcaiberica".
    How are the batteries working? did they lose capacity? It's hard to find reviews of those yellow batteries in the internet.

    Why to mount the MSC10 so high up in the mast also with the mast so close and therefore big blind angle???
    I would put it on the solar arch, especially to avoid to rough movements of the mast (and to avoid extra rivits at the mast).
