When Mads put the last task over to the finished column I felt a little heart broken and excited at the same time ....it was a lot like the feeling you get when a child graduates ...you know they're ready but you'll miss them for being all grown up
Kinda sad.....feels like the end of an era. I've been watching this series for years and can't believe how far you both have come. Now is the time to enjoy the fruits of all that hard work!!
I'm a Merchant Marine, and I've used the Iridium Go! It is good for phone calls, and sms type messages only. Sending pictures? Good luck! Can't even send an emoji. Can't wait for Starlink!
Ava, you go right ahead and be American! Americans that get to the station early are Super Spiffy~Do, for sure. You’re a wonderful Ambassador for all Americans!
Wow! Ava is a "keeper"! She is going to replace "Rick Steve's Europe"! Sail Life is such a great channel, I am going to have to binge watch it from the beginning at least once EVERY year! Once in Ireland we EXPECT to see you "clogging" down the streets!
You guys need not apologize for a rushed video. Your videos are better than most even when they are rushed or short. So please keep putting out great content. Safe travels!
Living in rural Michigan we have been plagued with terrible satellite internet providers. We got Starlink this spring and love watching Sail Life in 4K now 😎
You young kids. :) That's not so slow. I started out using a teletype for programing and it was 300 baud. Then I upgraded to a 1200 baud modem. That was heaven :)
Brilliant episode really enjoyed seeing Ava on her journey to Ikea...! The beds turned out great!! Your both amazing ppl!! Excited for the next journey... Thanks again for sharing your lives with us and Fare winds and following sea's ✌🏼💗😊❣️
If you plan to be sailing and living on board in hot places I suggest installing 10mm or 20mm thick closed cell foam on the ceiling to greatly reduce the heat in the boat. Sticking and screwing a batten frame allows you to add a finishing cover. In my boat in the subtropics I put in 10mm foam, left a 10cm air gap then finished with super light plastic wood planks. The untreated areas are red hot in summer, while the treated areas are actually cold to the touch.
You two are treasures, as are each of your videos. Planted seeds take time to germinate but I'm confident you two are shaping the skill sets and attitudes of many future voyagers. Congratulations on arriving at your departure with a fully found ship.
Excellent job with the beds Ava, your begging to outdo Mat and he’s been at it for years. Brilliant job people keep up the good work I learn so much every time I watch your channel
@@roberttorres809 BTW the best food I ever had in my whole life in a restaurant is a steak in Ålborg Denmark, the second best is a New York steak in Mobile, Alabama. There is no number three.
Well done Sail Life..! As usual! Perhaps, I agree Eva is quite lovely...and fun to listen to...but selfies always have lower grade sound! More B-Roll with voice overs would help when roaming through the cities, then we get to see more of it! Cheers and have great sailing!
Assuming Ava is good with shooting selfies (not many takes), they may require less work than more editing and voiceovers. I like the selfies, voiceovers don't capture the mood or energy of the moment.
I enjoyed the video and Ava's since of adventure to IKEA. Mads clearly explains the pros and cons to each item added to the boat, it certainly makes researching far easier. Safe sailing to Ireland. ⛵
Hey Mads and Ava, Love the video. I enjoy the tour of Brest and also all the DIY stuff. I hope you don't feel obligated to fill each video with projects for viewers. One project a week is more than enough especially if it is well explained as you have an amazing talent for finding expert ways to approach each project and deserve so much credit as a "how-to-do things-right" channel. Love the comparison review of Iridium Go and Garmin. You guys are now a double threat and I hope you will enjoy sailing, enjoy cruising, exploring new harbors and new worlds. I remember when you asked Andy at "Boatworks Today" for advice and now he just talks to the camera while you guys are a thousand miles ahead of him and the best source for advice. I've learned so much from you Mads. Wish you the best. Fair winds.
Great video as usual. Athena is looking good and it shows in the quality of both of your hard work. I can’t wait to see the cruising videos as I’m sure you’re both ready to get underway. Be safe and well and happy sailing. ⛵️🌈🌞
I enjoyed this video and it didn't seem rushed to me. All your videos are top notch and I wait every week to see the next episode. I do wish the videos were a little longer .But I'm addicted so I'll be waiting for my next fix of Ava and Mads. May you have a very nice sail to Ireland, be safe .
You two rocked this video. It is amazing that you two found each other and I am so looking to watching your adventures sailing, while I start my "somewhat extensive refit" on my 38 ft Bristol Aleron sailboat. Lets just say its going to be "Sail Life" , "Sailing Uma" and "boat works Today" project. I can't wait to meet you two in person, we have such a one-sided friendship.
What an awesome thing you two have created for yourselves, and a charming couple as well! I’ve enjoyed your refit and look forward to following along on your adventures. Thank you!
Ikea - great for boat stuff!! We bought mattresses to cut up, stainless oven pans, stainless pans, small wok, all sorts of kitchen stuff etc. BTW enhance the comfort of your beds with an Ikea memory foam topper :) - we did
Great video(as usual). We spotted Athena (looking very spiffy 🤩) moored up this evening as we headed home from our boat, so I’m looking forward to next week to follow your journey from Cherbourg 👍🏼
That's 2,5 hours by train and an extra 30 minutes by tram and some walking. At that point, renting a car would make so much sense especially when you need to bring two mattresses back the same route.
Fun Fact (for the manly man) The knitting machine and the general principle (still in use today) was invented by an Englishman named William Lee in 1589, but he had a major learning curve before he began. You see Billy boy was in love and desperately wanted to spend all of his time with the young lady of his desire. However, there was a problem. The good Mr. Lee's heart throb was a bit of a Cinderella and her chores got in the way. The most pressing task set forth by her miserly parents was to knit socks. Bushels of socks. Socks for family and shop. Well, the forlorn Bill was beside himself knowing that the fair lady was lodged in her rooms knitting away. He had to find a way for them to be together. What if he helped her knit her quota? No that would do. But a machine that could do it faster, he thought. That is what I shall do. The honorable Mr. William Lee learned to knit and then set about to create a machine that could make those delicate knots. He informed his love that soon they could frolic their afternoons away. With much secrecy he completed his project born of passion and gifted it to his lovely lass to use when none would know that she was stealing away her new liberation with the man of her dreams. And they lived happily ever after. That's how I heard it and that is how I will tell it! 😉😍 PS, It was nearly two hundred more years before the sewing machine was invented. Go figure.
Just be careful to never completely get through all the todo items or you'll end up selling her. :) You guys make such a wonderful team. Fair winds, and following seas!
When are you guys going to varnish/paint the cabin/head doors? The cabin is beautiful, but those doors are an eye sore! Stay safe on your trip Ireland. God speed. Can't wait to see you again.
Have fun u2. And if it gets terrifying, you immediately start the engine. ok? When my father learned me to solo sail a cabinyacht when i was a young boy, this was his advice. Whenever you're in a situation u don't like, or are not sure about. Start the engine, loosen up all your sails let them flapping, and motor you're way to safety. And therefore always make sure you're engine is ready to start when you're under sail, so u only have to turn the ignition-key.
The first modem I bought my own money was 1.2 kilobits per second, and 2.4 kilobits cost approximately one USD per bit to buy the hardware. Or actually half the hardware since you would need two of the things to both mo and dem. So the "painfully slow" was something I was keenly aware of. (On the other hand, you only needed an hour or two of that to transfer the entire available storage of most computers at the time, so maybe it wasn't all that bad.)
The sailing class going by at 13:40 made me smile.
The view in your last shot of you saying "See You" shows a darned good looking boat. Wish my house looked that good.
When Mads put the last task over to the finished column I felt a little heart broken and excited at the same time ....it was a lot like the feeling you get when a child graduates ...you know they're ready but you'll miss them for being all grown up
Me too - now not much DIY to watch
Not to worry. It looks like he's still has a few more boat repairs to do once they get to Ireland. Like the aft cabin etc.
