The Old Mechanic taught me how to work on my bike, amazing work mindset, doesn't get upset when oil dumps- laughs, uses flashlight to visually verify level, marks with crayon for torque, so many great lessons. Thanks Old Mechanic!
Thank you very much 🙏🏻👍🏻👊🏻😉
I feel SO MUCH BETTER knowing I'm not the only person this kind of thing happens to! 😁😁 Love your videos!
😂
I changed my gearbox oil last weekend - my centre stand is now also fully lubricated ! 👍
Nice job! 😂👍🏻👊🏻
I love your shop rag on a roll !!
😉
Hello from Arizona! Thank you for these great videos!
👍🏻👊🏻🏍
Thank you from Kansas City, Missouri!
Very informational and entertaining video TOM, I really enjoy your videos and kudos on mentioning the storage setting tip for the mechanical torque wrench that's a very important tip also. Cheers!
Thanks mate
Why is the magnetic plug to the gearbox not in the bottom of the gearbox ?
Thanks for another great video. Robert in sweden
Thank you !
I love bloopers because that's how I work one blooper after another but I do get there in the end and still do a better job than most mechanics "because I care" Sorry to those mechanics that do care because you are out there I know ?? I have simply not met you yet !!
Bloopers shows that we are all human 😉👍🏻👊🏻
We all have a spill of oil once in a while. Nice job overall.
Very helpful; Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! ☺️
Great video my friend.
Thank you 👍
English is my one and only language and you speak it better than I do! BTW when I die, I want to leave my bike to you because I think so highly of it. 🤣
“Smackidy Smack” the like button now!
Thanks ! 👍🏻👊🏻😊
You’re great! Thanks
You're welcome! 👍🏻👊🏻
@@TheOldMechanic . As I said you’re great! Brilliant and lovely personality. I am new here, but I intend to stay for a very long time. Obviously invite lots of friends. Just sent one of your videos to Brazil. Thanks again
Thanks for sharing
Good job
Thanks 👍🏻
Manual on my '06 calls for 75w140. Did this change for later bikes, my manual is wrong, or The Old Mechanic has his own way? Anyone know?
Funny old man! Good information.
Thanks Ricky 😉🤛👍🏍
.7 liter would be 700 milliliter. Filling to bottom of drain hole is a over fill of about 8 ounces or 242 ML
Does it state in maintenance manuals to fill to overflow?
8 ounces is a serious overfill of the transmission case
Does the R1200GS have the same engine as the 2011 R1200RT
How do you keep your exhaust pipes so clean?!! 😳🤷♂️
How much KM does it take to change the oil in the gearbox? thank you
Hi, from France !!! Supers vidéos !!! Do you really have to wait 2 days to put in new oil ? 🙂 Is it possible to have more subtittle on your videos ? thank you 🙂
Hi Jerry, its the way I do an oil change, I got all the time in the world. 😂😂👍🏻
@@TheOldMechanic OK, I will be retired next year, I think I will choose this philosophy Thank you!
👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻🏍
Hello, "Old Mechanic" I get a big problem... Impossible to release the filling cap of the gearbox. It is very damaged and no traditional tool has a grip... It must have been too tight in the past... What methods can I use to be able to loosen it without damaging the aluminum housing... I bought a cold spray... Can you hit with a hammer and chisel. As a last resort, can you drill through the nut (cap)
Thank you for your help, I’m really in trouble ... :-(
That can be a real pain in the... Maybe use a small blowtorch and heat just the plug, and see if you can carefully hammer an oversized allen or torx bit in and give that a try. Let me know how that went 👍🏻👊🏻
maybe this one can help: amzn.to/3M3L3KY

Thank you for your reply:-)
Initially, I thought rather heat the housing of the gearbox and cool only the cap so that it retracts alone... ?????
I will do this intervention in September because I go on a road trip next week... :-)
@@TheOldMechanic Hello, I finally found a real mechanic (probably a "French Old Mechanic" like you!) I entrusted him with my 1200GS (2010). He could see that the previous dealer had hit with a hammer and chisel to try to unscrew the cap. (without success) The problem is that the base of the crankcase was damaged and a narrow crack appeared. It was necessary to first consolidate the housing with a welding tape all around the cap (do not forget to disconnect the battery and the electronic control unit before performing a weld on the motorcycle) before soldering a Torx head on the cap and being able to unscrew it The operation was a success. I need to see with a coachbuilder if he can reduce the solder around the plug. But this is only a problem that aesthetic... I was finally able to empty my box without problem. I will try to put a picture of the result soon.
Thank you again Old mechanic for all your tutorials, they allow me to do 70% of the maintenance of my 1 200 GS 2010!!!!
vraagje.
Hi, first "i really enjoy your videos !!!" I have a question regarding the gearbox. today, with my R1200GS 2008er i recognize a little "riddle riddle riddle" when waiting in neutral without pulling the clutch. if i pull the clutch, the noise is gone......can you give me some advice :-)
I have the same noise change when i do the same
Hi do I put the same oil in the gearbox has the rear drive thanks.
Yep 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Groet! BoxerHarry
Sehr Genau erklärt, wie immer...Danke
What's the recommended time to change this oil? Every 60000km?
😂😂
Awesome
Thanks 👍🏻
Shims in het Engels meneer….👍🏽
Don’t worry, I’ve had my fair share of bloopers 😅
Waar bent u gevestigd, u mag mijn R1150r onder handen nemen..!
Waar zit U ?
Mag U mijn R1200gs lc beurt geven 2013
Opa😁😁😁 👍international.!
60.000km for a boxer is nothing. If well maintained these engines are rock solid.
Hi John, you are so right ! 👍🏍
Fill it up,,, with what?
Your crayon is a witness mark?
Hi George, for myself. Afterwards I can see with a quick view if all bolts are fastend up to spec.
Is there anyway to do this without making a mess?
why would you have a magnet on a filler plug. makes no sense.
ve ar gonna screw it in
What can you do but laugh?
