It would actually be better if they took the old original game and remaster it. Instead, they took the newer mobile version of the game, which contains a lot of bugs, and remastered that one.
They also removed the original gta trilogy from the stores. So you can't buy the non-definitive from the digital stores anymore. Unless you already did buy em on the digital stores, or your one of the bunch who has the physical ps2 collection. Or download/pirate it to play the trilogy versions. Otherwise they have effectively replaced the original with this buggy version And made sure you can't get it anymore on stores. 🙃
the thing is that the developers focused so much on graphics that this type of logic did not matter to them because they think that the players won't find all this out.

There was ways to update games - but it was not easy. You had to edit, finalize the game in question, process it to disc and package it. Then once that is done, announce a recall, and have all original copies shipped back and replaced with the new copies. Then ship out all the new copies and have stores pull their stock of old copies to replace with the new ones. Old "defective" copies that got sent back - destroyed. Job done. Any left in circulation or already purchased that were not returned - nothing happened. So you can see why the game had to be as perfect as possible the first time, and would be playtested for weeks with a wide variety of sample players. I just got Version 1.0 of GTA Vice City on PS2 after years of searching. The Haitian Unfriendly version. The copy of Vice City that I have and have always had since 2002 is the Greatest Hits version which is the Haitian Friendly (edited) version. The Greatest Hits issues of PS2 games always contained patches, bugfixes, and additional content than the launch day copies.
Well, this perfectly shows times where developers were mostly creating games vs times where marketing, heads, game designers etc. are mostly deciding what goes in and out of the game...
Exactly, executives are completely out of touch with what people want in games. Same thing with movie productions, with “reboots” of old Disney classics. They focus entirely on “ultra-hi def” and “hyper-realistic” graphics, instead of anything else that made the characters more alive. Then they pat themselves on the back on mainstream media for making things more “lifelike”.
I dislike the fact that AAA game developers rush the shit out of the game without checking bugs and details first. At least just release it when it's ready, quality is better than time and quantity
I like how Rockstar, a company that has made BILLIONS with the same game since 2012, decides to hire an inexperienced inexpensive mobile game studio for this very important trilogy. Greed at its finest.

Anyone with 2 brain cells knew what would be the result of this, and considering how much money they made with this game, and therefore how important it should be to them, this is pretty laughable to me because I feel like they went to far, I feel like they shouldn't be able to get away with this, so I'm entertained to see what happens.
Why is it greed? The entire gaming industry has been like this for many years so it fits right in. And people will continue to support R* because as individuals they have no values, just selfish mindsets to buy what they want because they want it. As a playerbase, you support MTX, you support online DRM of single player games, you support buying ingame currency to gamble with. R* will continue to thrive, they are too big to fail, GTAVI will sell very well...or maybe you all will boycott it as you should...nah that's a silly idea because you just want to play GTAVI. That is what's wrong with gaming, they've milked GTAV for a shocking amount of time, people still bought it. The industry is shamelessly greedy, full stop, and people still support it.
They could've made all three in a new engine, instead they wanted to play on people's nostalgia by using the same old engine and making the graphics look like something from a free game.
I never realised that the Vice City logo actually changed, they reversed the colours and inversed the white. So now instead of looking like a Neon 80s style logo it's just a bland purple with black outline style logo.
With the R* logo pool, it wasn't even on the map in the OG version, it was just another easter egg to discover while exploring. Putting it on the map ruins that.

This seems like one of those games where they just ignored the QA testers. They must have known about at least some of these issues, they just shipped it anyway.
For a mobile developer and their time frame, they did excellent. All the other GTAs were perfect because they actually spent the time and effort properly. This is all on rockstar / take two themselves

Man, it pains me to see the top games of my childhood that gave me a billion hours of entertainment end up like this. The newer generation will not know what we've respected these games for.
I was hoping in a true remake, imagine playing GTA vice city but with GTA 5 level of detail and engine but nope we got a lazy a** remaster, not even a lazy remaster, a straight downgrade.
Truly a shame. To me Vice City is still greatest sandbox game of all time. Feels like home everytime i replay it. But nothing is sacred, as long as corpos want more money.
I think it looks good and its only to hold us off until their next release which is going to be revealed in the next coming weeks. That's why they had another company take this project over they're very busy trying to release their next triple a title
Something else I noticed about the helicopters in the original vs the "definitive": In the og VC, the helicopter's blades actually look like they're spinning fast enough to keep it in the air, in the "definitive" VC, they spin so slow that it looks like you're about to drop out of the sky at any second
Yeah that's perhaps the detail that bothers me the most with the Defective Editions, they made aircraft blades work in an extremely unrealistic RPM range, Not to mention the lack of motion bloor, which the originals had, which also helps to give the impression of higher rotation speed. I like that they gave aerial vehicles proper navigation lights on this, but that's pretty much the only thing they did right in this disaster.
It makes me want to download the original GTA Vice City, download a patch for widescreen, maybe some textures and also cars (or just download the 1980s mod) and that's it lol it would be better made.

Microsoft should just make the actual definitive original Xbox versions of GTAIII & GTAVC BC for XSX/S, like they are on 360. They have better graphics and complete soundtracks. The original Xbox disc for GTASA works with XS, but the graphics aren't as good as those other two, but it's a better game than this remake. It's not really BC, as it DLs the mobile port, so needs the Internet to do it, so it's not the PS2 port that's on the disc. It looks and plays better than the original, but is missing some music and DJ voices.
I think maybe they were trying to do what paramount did with the sonic the hedgehog trailer, release a crappy version, everyone goes nuts, then they fix it, get praised and everyone sees the film. Except they fucked up and released the game instead of a preview.

The company gave it to another studio called Grove Street games that make mobile version of GTA series. So they made them all the definite versions on that basis. so its not really made them on the basis of Pc or consoles. They just passed it off to their studio to do the work while the main rockstar games either got lazy or are working on another game. maybe so maybe not
Really grinds my gears how Rockstar had taken these games, the iconic games that help build the company to what it is today and pissed all over them. It really feels like we have knock off versions of the originals with brighter lighting and better textures. It’s embarrassingly bad when your “remaster” cannot hold up to the quality and standards but forth 20 years prior. Now i know why Rockstar went after and put and an end to the available mods for these games. They simply couldn’t compete. It’s no surprise that this trilogy remaster is now the worst rated game of the year, reflects the effort and care they give nowadays.

When you got the people who made rockstar what it is today, leaving the studio, you know there's a shit storm coming. GTA 6 probably started to be developped when the OG team was there so it's definitelly have some good stuff in it but it'll never be as good as any other GTA i can bet on that
Whole trilogy is cartoony from original release. Missions, gameplay etc. Mafia is serious. That's why original was looking real and so the remake. I don't see any reason to play realistic looking game with missions like "pick up the whores", "collect porn magazines on time", "blow up the whole city by stealing a tank from fucking army straight from the street" or "change the color so police cannot run after you anymore". Honestly (beside fucking price) I don't know why players got furious.

And people are furious because this is a cash grab with more bugs then the originals had, missing details across all 3 games and questionable design choices. I believe that back in the day they went “over the top” when it came to effects that they could control since the overall graphics weren’t realistic. Now they have the technology and want to hold back? They tried to “redefine” these games instead of keeping what really made the games great. It’s like they were ahead of their time and regressed
I think the console limitations at the time are what unintentionally added to the vibe of the games for example if they could have had a higher rendering distance at the time i think the originals would have been very similar to the defintive edition

Everytime i think Enigma is exaggerating, he just convinces me every time. Holy shit mods that exist for the normal GTA games to enhance graphics make it WAY better than this. Wait the OG games themselves are just way better
0:25 compare the helicopter blades in OG vs definitive in the next shot. In the original the blades actually look like they are spinning fast because of the blurred blade texture. In the new one they used a "better" texture but in turn it looks like the prop is hardly spinning. 0 attention to detail.
I've noticed that Grove Street Games removed the blur effect that occurs when vehicles go extremely fast or the player falls a long distance, so the helicopter blades lacking a realistic-looking speed could be a loss of that same blur effect.
As much as I enjoyed these 3 games years ago when they originally released, and as hyped as I was when I heard a definitive trilogy was being made, I'm glad I didn't let nostalgia dictate my purchase, and instead waited for reviews and vids such as these. I'll just stick with the o.g. versions, if i feel the need to relive any of these games, thank you 😉.

As one who understands game design, what you showed here is how the team built the game, they built the game mostly on automatic methods rather than create and improve things, they really underestimated the game and just made a quick transfer to a new engine and forgot some things that existed in the original game. Something like this can not happen because of a mistake, it is something that is done intentionally and with contempt, and people do not understand it.
The QR and design team at GSG both only had 1 year experience. The lead programmer had 9 years experience but not with PS2 era games - just mobile stuff.

Game developers will literally outsource responsibility knowing exactly what they are doing, knowing that the game will be complete garbage because anyone with 2 brain cells and a basic understanding of these games can see that. They knew the game would sell, and they knew it would be garbage. You can't take any blame away from them. They will find a company that will produce a buggy game on their terms, no need to point fingers at that company. EA did the same thing, they remastered one of their most successful games, NFS MW, made millions with it, outsourced the responsibility and just shut down the servers leaving players who had invested several THOUSAND $ with no game to play. They knew exactly what they were doing, they milked the customer base and then moved on. It was still profitable to keep the servers up, so either the license ended or EA told them to shut down the servers to sell their next game. In this case it was at least an actualy remastered version, but towards the end they started adding broken things and tried very hard to get the last penny out of their players by including achievements and coming up with all kinds of ridiculously priced new cars. In my opinion all people involved are despicable in the EA case, but as far as this GTA series goes unless the mobile developer tries to cashgrab with microtransactions they should take no blame. If I'm Rockstar and I hire a homeless person to remaster SA and take 99% of his profits then how is the homeless person to blame for the quality of the resulting game?
In the Nintendo switch version. Almost all things are fixed. In GTA SA they fixed the OG water splash from its first version with a different water texture affect.
The strange thing is that you have of very realistic lights, reflection, but the fact that is applied to old models (npc, cars, building) makes the original ones more realistic in certaim ways

They may or may not be completely cognizant of their reality when they actually "touch grass," but it does seem like an excuse to flip a brain switch into an alternate mode of thinking, and people can become susceptible to the dangers of being able to do that without noticing. Not saying anything about you btw, I'm just saying I'd rather spend my time on something that might make me forget _my_ problems, sure, but not that there _are_ problems. When I was a kid I dreamt of video games that looked exactly like real life. And can I just say, I have no problem with unrealistic games, I just think that on the spectrum of real and unreal devs are making an artistic decision, that I can respect, and since NO game is photo real, or a proper simulation of reality yet, I'm glad there's an emphasis on it in modern gaming. Even if that emphasis is perhaps overstated.
I noticed that in the Definitive edition, the bright white lights don't come on when you're reversing a car. In the original Vice City, the white reverse lights would always come on when you were backing up a car. It's a very minor detail but it makes me feel that the original just did some things better.

I dislike the fact that AAA game developers rush the shit out of the game without checking bugs and details first. At least just release it when it's ready, quality is better than time and quantity
I like how Rockstar, a company that has made BILLIONS with the same game since 2012, decides to hire an inexperienced inexpensive mobile game studio for this very important trilogy. Greed at its finest.

Anyone with 2 brain cells knew what would be the result of this, and considering how much money they made with this game, and therefore how important it should be to them, this is pretty laughable to me because I feel like they went to far, I feel like they shouldn't be able to get away with this, so I'm entertained to see what happens.
Why is it greed? The entire gaming industry has been like this for many years so it fits right in. And people will continue to support R* because as individuals they have no values, just selfish mindsets to buy what they want because they want it. As a playerbase, you support MTX, you support online DRM of single player games, you support buying ingame currency to gamble with. R* will continue to thrive, they are too big to fail, GTAVI will sell very well...or maybe you all will boycott it as you should...nah that's a silly idea because you just want to play GTAVI. That is what's wrong with gaming, they've milked GTAV for a shocking amount of time, people still bought it. The industry is shamelessly greedy, full stop, and people still support it.

I never realised that the Vice City logo actually changed, they reversed the colours and inversed the white. So now instead of looking like a Neon 80s style logo it's just a bland purple with black outline style logo.

Something else I noticed about the helicopters in the original vs the "definitive":
In the og VC, the helicopter's blades actually look like they're spinning fast enough to keep it in the air, in the "definitive" VC, they spin so slow that it looks like you're about to drop out of the sky at any second

Yeah that's perhaps the detail that bothers me the most with the Defective Editions, they made aircraft blades work in an extremely unrealistic RPM range, Not to mention the lack of motion bloor, which the originals had, which also helps to give the impression of higher rotation speed.
I like that they gave aerial vehicles proper navigation lights on this, but that's pretty much the only thing they did right in this disaster.

Microsoft should just make the actual definitive original Xbox versions of GTAIII & GTAVC BC for XSX/S, like they are on 360. They have better graphics and complete soundtracks. The original Xbox disc for GTASA works with XS, but the graphics aren't as good as those other two, but it's a better game than this remake. It's not really BC, as it DLs the mobile port, so needs the Internet to do it, so it's not the PS2 port that's on the disc. It looks and plays better than the original, but is missing some music and DJ voices.

The company gave it to another studio called Grove Street games that make mobile version of GTA series. So they made them all the definite versions on that basis. so its not really made them on the basis of Pc or consoles. They just passed it off to their studio to do the work while the main rockstar games either got lazy or are working on another game. maybe so maybe not

Really grinds my gears how Rockstar had taken these games, the iconic games that help build the company to what it is today and pissed all over them. It really feels like we have knock off versions of the originals with brighter lighting and better textures. Whole trilogy is cartoony from original release. Missions, gameplay etc. Mafia is serious. That's why original was looking real and so the remake. I don't see any reason to play realistic looking game with missions like "pick up the whores", "collect porn magazines on time", "blow up the whole city by stealing a tank from fucking army straight from the street" or "change the color so police cannot run after you anymore". Honestly (beside fucking price) I don't know why players got furious.

0:25 compare the helicopter blades in OG vs definitive in the next shot. In the original the blades actually look like they are spinning fast because of the blurred blade texture. In the new one they used a "better" texture but in turn it looks like the prop is hardly spinning. 0 attention to detail.
I've noticed that Grove Street Games removed the blur effect that occurs when vehicles go extremely fast or the player falls a long distance, so the helicopter blades lacking a realistic-looking speed could be a loss of that same blur effect.
If Grove Street Games are a thing then is the mod community behind GTA are Ballas Games?

As much as I enjoyed these 3 games years ago when they originally released, and as hyped as I was when I heard a definitive trilogy was being made, I'm glad I didn't let nostalgia dictate my purchase, and instead waited for reviews and vids such as these. I'll just stick with the o.g. versions, if i feel the need to relive any of these games, thank you 😉.

As one who understands game design, what you showed here is how the team built the game, they built the game mostly on automatic methods rather than create and improve things, they really underestimated the game and just made a quick transfer to a new engine and forgot some things that existed in the original game.
Something like this can not happen because of a mistake, it is something that is done intentionally and with contempt, and people do not understand it.

The QR and design team at GSG both only had 1 year experience. The lead programmer had 9 years experience but not with PS2 era games - just mobile stuff.

EA did the same thing, they remastered one of their most successful games, NFS MW, made millions with it, outsourced the responsibility and just shut down the servers leaving players who had invested several THOUSAND $ with no game to play. They knew exactly what they were doing, they milked the customer base and then moved on. It was still profitable to keep the servers up, so either the license ended or EA told them to shut down the servers to sell their next game. In this case it was at least an actualy remastered version, but towards the end they started adding broken things and tried very hard to get the last penny out of their players by including achievements and coming up with all kinds of ridiculously priced new cars. In my opinion all people involved are despicable in the EA case, but as far as this GTA series goes unless the mobile developer tries to cashgrab with microtransactions they should take no blame. If I'm Rockstar and I hire a homeless person to remaster SA and take 99% of his profits then how is the homeless person to blame for the quality of the resulting game?

In GTA SA they fixed the OG water splash from its first version with a different water texture affect.

The strange thing is that you have of very realistic lights, reflection, but the fact that is applied to old models (npc, cars, building) makes the original ones more realistic in certaim ways

And then the kids consume gore in GTA 5 (for example the tortue missions, the dozends of machetes, hammers and knifes you can use to create gore scenes) and get bullied in the voicechat, I don't even blame adults for calling
Really? Cause I bet GTAVI will sell out. People do not care if companies do stuff like this. The gaming audience is so big they can do whatever they want, and people don't actually boycott anything anymore; they talk about it and even say they're going to do it, then go crawling back because they're selfish and have zero integrity and companies know it. Just yet another failing of new generations on the planet. Things weren't like this before social media nonsense, a time when your parents actually stood up for poor quality etc and didn't buy it.

@@Pactastic042 I would say it was a bit before 2017 myself, but I find it very hard to see it any other way, buying something that you don't agree with is supporting it and saying you approve, but a lot of people want to take that stance but also buy it because they want to, that's why it's gone the way it has. I hope gaming does crash, it's a shameless money making machine.
If they just wanted the trilogy to look better, they should have just made an add-on that would just change the textures, particles, and add a shader. Not reprogram the whole damn game!

I love how cynical the head of Groove Street Games on Twitter was praising their own work on this trash saying that their work was under a lot of scrutiny and they were really proud of this. God damn, these games are really important to many of us because they left a mark in the industry. It seems that Wardrum games now Groove Street don’t see that instead they only care pushing out the thing with bare minimum effort

I wasn't expecting much when I knew it was them anyway. Rockstar are the ones to blame, I'd say this small studio didn't demand much money and Rockstar went greedy and didn't care about the quality
I sighed so loudly when you crashed the car into the water the first time. The very idea that a developer would neglect to make a car splash when it hits a body of water at speed, let alone in an update of a game that had such a basic feature almost twenty years ago, raises my blood pressure.

They may or may not be completely cognizant of their reality when they actually "touch grass," but it does seem like an excuse to flip a brain switch into an alternate mode of thinking, and people can become susceptible to the dangers of being able to do that without noticing. Not saying anything about you btw, I'm just saying I'd rather spend my time on something that might make me forget _my_ problems, sure, but not that there _are_ problems. Depending on context this might be completely different from graphics or whatever. But I'm willing to embrace the developer chase for that always elusive "immersions" they're always talking about. When I was a kid I dreamt of video games that looked exactly like real life. So ultimately on several fronts I would say my opinion is about as opposite to yours as it can possibly be without thinking every game should have permadeath, or literally be Sword Art Online or something, lol.
And can I just say, I have no problem with unrealistic games, I just think that on the spectrum of real and unreal devs are making an artistic decision, that I can respect, and since NO game is photo real, or a proper simulation of reality yet, I'm glad there's an emphasis on it in modern gaming. Even if that emphasis is perhaps overstated.

I noticed that in the Definitive edition, the bright white lights don't come on when you're reversing a car. In the original Vice City, the white reverse lights would always come on when you were backing up a car. It's a very minor detail but it makes me feel that the original just did some things better.
