    Here I heat water in the Klean Kanteen Stainless Steel wide mouth water bottle using the Folding Firebox with the Trangia Spirit burner as my heat source to cook up some backpacking food, oatmeal and hot chocolate where I try the Guyot Designs Silicone Bowl Set. Then I run a couple of boil tests with the Firebox set up a couple of different ways.
    My first test was with the Trangia up off the Fire Grate which took just less than 7:00 minutes to boil 2 cups of water.
    The second test was with the Trangia down on the Fire Grate about 1/4" lower than the first test which took just less than 6:00 minutes to boil 2 cups of water.
    In this video I also show a way to block the wind using the ash pan against the side of the Firebox.
    Thanks for watching, clicking like and commenting!
    All the best, Steve

    Oh, thank you. Yeah, those girls of mine are charmers, especially in this video with their funny outfits on. It was first thing in the morning and they walked up with grandpa to say hi :) It's the little things that mean the most in life.

    Enjoyed your video very much! I have the 64oz model and really like it (I'll also order the 40oz wide mouth model & your pot lifter when it becomes available again). One suggestion for your web site...carry a spring metal 'fish mouth spreader' to hold and handle the SS water bottles. They are inexpensive and work well to hold all your SS bottles in/out of the fire and much more safe than a cloth kitchen towel! Thanks again and keep the videos coming!

    #1 just to be on the safe side,(never seal a bottle your heating).
    The only way I can see the lid getting too hot would be if flames were actually making it that high. other than that you have the water to regulate the temp to no hotter than 212 F

    Just got my firebox stove can't wait to use it. I would not take the chance of putting that lid on while heating! Thanks!

    The steel bottle doesn't get hot enough to mess up the gasket in the cap when you are boiling?

    • @fireboxstove
      @fireboxstove  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      M Hohstadt as long as it's full of water it's temperature will be regulated to no hotter than 212 degrees Fahrenheit

    So, I used my KK to purify water in a fire.
    One problem..I had NO way to get it out of the hot fire =P
    Any thoughts?

      Use a pot lifter: www.fireboxstove.com/pot-lifter?search=pot%20lifter
      These work on both the wide mouth and the loop cap, but especially well with the loop cap. Just like a kettle!

    For me, coco is another spelling of cocoa/cacao. When I hear coco, I also think of hot chocolate!

    Pretty cool Steve!!! What is the size of that Kleen Kanteen???

    • @fireboxstove
      @fireboxstove  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both wide mouth and regular 40oz Kleen Kanteens are the right size for this application.
      Thanks for asking.

    I noticed that you cut out the part where you actually extinguished the Trangia (@6:10). It’s kind of hard to drop the lid right down where you need it to put it out without burning yourself :). Not to mention the blazing hot fire sticks being used as pot supports that you have to pull out. If you have an easier way I’m all ears. Thanks

    • @fireboxstove
      @fireboxstove  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have a Leatherman you can use the pliers to hold the small edge to place the snuffer lid more precisely.

    • @spork1125
      @spork1125 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fireboxstove I actually realized you can put the hook end of a fire stick up under the trangia snuffer lid edge and lower it down in there that way. If that makes sense. So glad you put those two 90 degree angles on those fire sticks!

    Them poor pooches! They NEVER get to ride to where you're going, they're always having to run to keep up with the rig. LOL

      I know... just had to play along and bust yer chops and be a puppy advocate. After all, they can't speak, and don't have thumbs!! Love seein' them included in the vids, they become stars all on their own.

    What was I thinking? Of course I needed bacon :)

  • @oxycrimson
    @oxycrimson 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a little misleading, normally when you're testing boil times on any kind of backpacking stove, you use one liter

    • @fireboxstove
      @fireboxstove  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a standard on TH-cam video tests, people use two cups and I wanted them to have the ability to compare.

    • @oxycrimson
      @oxycrimson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wasn't accusing you of anything Steve, but of all the videos I've watched testing jetboil, MSR, and many others, it seems like one Lee has been the norm. I know when I'm setting up camp for the evening one litre is about the minimum I'd start out with for cooking, drinking and clean up. I live in Southern Indiana and water is very easily accessible, I guess if I lived in the desert I'd have to use a lot less.
