@shentaro - the thing is, as far as tournaments go, you will not find many people picking Dhalsim and Guile. They want to win and know that most of their opponents will pick top tier characters. Some truly skilled players will stick with their favorite like having a favorite football team, but in a tournament that's worth money people will pick the safe bet Ryu / Ken / Sagat.

It's because he doesn't have any body fat, therefore it's close too 170 pounds of muscle

LitASFBadger that's still very small. Lebron James is 6'8 260lbs and his body fat is about 6 or 7%. 172 is small for a man. The street fighter characters are all at least 200lbs excluding the women. Ryu himself should be around 230lbs.
Guile 6'0 and he's 190
Akuma is always holding back, in every game, except when he shows up in his beefed up form, Shin Akuma. I think you can identify Shin Akuma by observing his double air fireball (SF4 Akuma has that as an EX move, it doesn't count). His holding back explains why his health is so low.

Tiers are a way of putting the characters into groups based on how "Good" they are. Im not entirely sure how people figure this out though.
Actually its pretty accurate. However all the characters that are ranked lower are only so cause its harder to fight with them. From a noob to noob this guide is effective. When you throw in combo's, counters and different tactics. It's whoever wields their character best that wins. Each character excells at something but you need to know what that is and how to use it. Without knowing that this guide is pretty usefull. Noobs pwn with sagat but suck with rose or cammy for example.
Akuma is S tier
He was S tier in ultra street fighter 4 but in regular street fighter 4 he was A tier
He goes right down a list, no harm for you.
Tier lists should be taken with a grain of salt.
Just because Sagat is better than Viper doesn't mean a Viper player will ALWAYS lose.
Player skill is just as important as tier ranking.
You should take a look on the leader board videos on the console versions... Seth is a damn monster. He has the best teleport int he game and his combos are insane.
It's also about Move Priority. I play as Dan due to the fact that:
a) I've always played with him and
b) His Ultra can bypass all other Ultras, Supers, and Projectiles if timed right.
Plus the Super Taunt pisses people off during a ranked match ;P

the list is accurate. doesnt mean if someones in F tier someone cant be good at the game overall and use a low tier char to beat high tier ones.

Exactly, this is probably the MOST well balanced street fighter game I have ever played.
I've Perfected Sagats with Sakura on many occasions during online, and these Sagat players were 4000+ BP players, too.

Looks pretty accurate to me: except, honestly, Dan always deserves his own tier rating. No letters or anything, just put him in the 'Dan Tier' and let that be that.

stun resist is the duration in which the character is stunned and is variable amongst the characters in sfiv.
are you guys serious these are the attribute stats from each character in the original sf4. sagat and zangief were damn near unstoppable, that's why they kept making updates and character tweaks. just for those who dont know.
Ansatsuken isn't a specific martial art, it just refers to any martial art used for assassination. Shotokan karate is mentioned in the old manuals as Ryu's style.

Sakura's got a lot of potential combo damage, but anyone who knows how she fights can just block all of her starters with ease. Cammy has better mixups, but this tier list in general was balls. People shouldn't trust strategy guides for stuff like this, especially when they make their tier list before the game comes out, which is just completely ignorant how tiers work.
Vega? D? I'll kick your ass any day with him. Hell, I'll just let the cpu go to town. Pick your Sagat too.

That's because those Sagat players aren't high competitive players . They would know their strategies therefore making you have to work harder .
Tier list is only meant for competitive playing . Which of course a competive Vega player can screw a casual Sagat player :P .
Well,I heard that Fei-Long can be quite dangerous,so yeah,You are right about Rufus,i think that he is at the right top of B tier almost A.I don't know much about El Fuerte,but Dhalshim is very nice teleport spammer xD and there are many good Abels aswell
if u havent noticed the changes ur sadly mistaken, blanka has gone through many changes, well his electricity range got nerfed but its ex version is the same range as the sf2 would be, but his sliding punch got better range and power, his aerial ball has priority move almost everything his ultra = aerial domination and his forward balls can be focus canceled into another attack. dont u think thats reason enough? not to mention high defence and offence power with high life and stun resist

Don't take this list seriously. I repeat: DO NOT TAKE THIS LIST SERIOUSLY. Atleast for the console characters that is. The characters have not been tested at a high competition level so their rank on their list is completely made up by the writers of the strat guide that was released. It takes some time for the characters to be tested all around by highly skilled players to determine the real tier list.
Do you know anywhere that lists the base stats for the SSF4AE characters?
I get zangriefed all the time by kids picking him and just using his spinning move. 1/10 times you'll find someone who actually plays Zangief and knows his moves, and that is truly something to behold.
To this day, Blanka being Brazilian still makes me laugh.

Ansatsuken, in the Street Fighter world, is what Gouken teaches to Ryu and Ken. With it, you can apparently jump very high and shoot fireballs. It's not shotokan or anything like that, though how it actually looks in comparison to a real martial art is different.
How old are these manuals? If it's the SFII-era, I'm pretty sure that's due to a translation mistake.

This list is a bit screwed up. Top tier is Sagat, Zangief, C.Viper, and Ryu. As far as grades - Sagat(S), Zangief(S), C.Viper(A), Ryu(A)
Like I said, each and everyone has HIS/HER own tier list, putting their favourites in the top. For some reason, I just don't connect well with characters whose special moves require a charge, because in actual combat I'm thinking quickly and preffer those whose moves can be executed faster without delay.

update this tier profile. Clearly the maker don't play enough or seen enough. Guile is way underrated in 'your rookie' opinion
I think it's too early in the game's Development to start a tier list.
Even so, Q was bottom tier in Third Strike, yet Kuroda rocked the tourney scene with him.
i am a strong believer that rose should be A tier. Her most of her moves are the second longest in the game, and has pretty high priority ratings. i also laugh at her Ultra being 3 stars. "SHAMWOW takes priority of almost everything in the game, i mean it absorbed Nekketsu Hadoken and Tiger Destruction. And it reaches like half the screen too.
I feel like this is cap because as a Ken main there’s no way ken’s speed is only 3 starts he’s one of the fastest characters in the game

Gen is really good , his grade is too low
no gen has weak buttons and low vitality with very average specials the only thing going for him are his combos and fast pokes
dude guys. calm down. the tiers are made just to show the stats. from an objective point of view sagat is the better character to use. But realistically, a good dan can still beat a sagat any day of the week. He's just putting the character stats is all.

I think most people who complain about tiers dont really know what they are.
OK, you might have a point, but I think that if you're playing with intelligence instead of showing off, you can kick anyone's ass with just basic moves. I think many people think it's all about combos, but it's not, at least not always.
Yeah, people who started playing fighting games since Sf4 came out should not judge tier lists.

Here is my own tier list because this one is wrong on so many levels:
S- Sagat, Akuma, Gouken, Seth
A- Viper, Chun, Guile, Abel, Balrog, Ken, Rufus, Cammy
B- Fei long, Ryu, Zangief, Rose, Dhalsim, Bison, Fuerte
C- Gen, Blanka, Honda
D- Sakura
F- Dan, Vega
if you use akuma to his full extent, like tokido there's barely any stopping him...also with ryu (daigo) but sagat is dangerous.
theojemzy Daigo uses evil Ryu which is completely different. The top characters in USFIV are Cammy, Akuma, and Evil Ryu.

That is all I've been doing online the past 2 days. I have Akuma's Ultra and Special down and so effective it's like a grab. I have a newfound love for SF4
There's a couple of mistakes on this video. Ryu's style as well as Ken, Akuma, and Gouken is Ansatsuken not Shotokan, Bison's style is Lerdrit (a military variation of Muay Thai)Psycho Power is the energy Bison uses. Fei Long's style is Jeet Kune Do, and Abel's style is not mention but could be Russian Sambo or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I think this is more like a: "Who is the easiest to win with-list". Any mastered character can easily handle any other one
I think this is more like a 'personal' characters tier profiles rating. First time I'm seeing Seth getting a 'B', he's freakin' pain in the *** although in easy mode.

My opinion, every character is strong - it depends on the player controlling them.
For me, the top 5 characters are:
1-) Sagat
2-) Ryu
3-) Ken
4-) Akuma
5-) Cammy

Who do you think should be rated higher or lower on the tier rankings?
I'd put Dan and Sheng Long in sixth place for the following reasons: Dan's Hadoken has limited range, while Sheng Long/Gouken shoryuken can only be used as a super or ultra.

btw, shotokan is not Ryu, Ken's, Akuma, or Gouken's fighting style. They happen to be Ansatsuken practitioners.
Other then that this tier list doesn't look too bad. Sagat is definitely a GOD tier character. And to me Balrog is a little too good as well, not in the same league as Sagat but man does he have major priority in all his attacks!
People... Tiers don't mean that a F rank cannot ever beat a A rank. In a fighting game, anyone can beat anyone.

Also, I find Dan to be TOO underrated: He plays a lot better in here than in previous SF games he's been. Also, he plays just like the other shotokaners (Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Sakura and Sheng Long), so I use virtually all the same strategies.

I think we all know that these tiers are nothing if the character is in the right hands. I have Mained Fei Long and El Fuerte and have no problem. Arturo Sanchez plays Dhalsim (Tiers C) and owns best ranked US PLAYER.
Dan is Dan. but it's not the tier people's fault- it's the players. they always say that if you play as *insert low tier character here*, you will lose. they are dumbasses like that. Tiers aren't supposed to effect you- you can be whoever the hell you want.
I haven't played enought of VI to have figured out his nuances yet, but because the feel of this game is different and because attacks seem to hit at different angles I find it difficult to play Blanka the way I would in HD Remix. Not to say that I wouldn't ever use him again in VI but that was just my initial impression when I first started playing (which was only a few days ago).
oh akuma i also hella hard to beat shoot i cant even use his finisher. i alsoo here their gonna have t hawk dee jay and ibuki as downloadable content btw do you think that the collectors edition was worth it i didnt get it the costumes i can get for like 5 bucks and the movie will be uploaded on here soon anyway and the figure isnt even poseble the stradagei guid i dont need for a fighter unles its marvel vs capcom. These weights must be all wrong. Sagat being 7'4'' and 172 lbs. is just silly to think of. He'd be a tiny tiny beanpole if he only weighed that much at that height. And obviously, he's super muscled.

Dhalsim won a recent tourney in Japan that featured the top 128 ranked players.
He beat Sagat in the finals.

It's kinda weird that ken gets a B, while his 'rival' Ryu gets an freakin A. But fuck it tiers don't matter, eventually it's the player who controls the character that counts.

Sure he may kick ass to casual players , but in competitive tournaments , he isn't good .
If you seem to have trouble against Vega its that because you don't know how to counter Vega or your choice of character has a bad match up against Vega .
What I mean is that a competitive Vega player can beat a casual Sagat player with ease . However if the Sagat player was competitive , then most likely Vega is screwed .
I have to disagree with about half of the tiering listed here, Dan is not an F rank anymore, I'd move him to B- Cish. Ken while he got toned down significantly is still better than a lot of characters and would be in A rank. Sagat though is definatly S rank.
The Street Fighter 4 tournament in Japan (using the arcade version) was won by a Dhalsim player.
Dhalsim is rated mid-low, so that kind of proves tier lists are a bit pointless?
