Emma, you mentioned about M&S Stormwear and I must tell you I have a parka that says Stormwear and it definitely works, snowstorms etc bring them on , it really works. XX
Oh brilliant! That’s so good to hear! I have a Storm Wear jacket from their GoodMove range which I sometimes use for dog walking but it’s yet to rain when I’ve been wearing it, which is incredibly ironic given that I live in the UK 🫠🤣

I 1000% agree with you about the lining issue. There have been so many times that I have wanted to purchase an item made of natural and breathable fabrics only to find that the lining is polyester. As you said, it defeats the purpose of buying a breathable fabric.
I'm quite restrictive in what fragrances I like to wear but I tried the M&S White Coconut last Summer and have to say it's a lovely perfume for Summer, imho. Love that they come in a 30ml, which is very handy for popping in your handbag.
I was surprised to see you hadn't kept the linen waistcoat then I heard you say about the polyester lining and my heart sank as I've ordered it too. Will also be returning.

I don’t believe in wearing things which other people dictate are ‘in’ or ‘out’ of fashion and I’d always encourage others to do the same.
I'm not a fan of all the wide leg styles, my body shape just ends up looking bulky in them. I spent the whole video wondering about the T-shirt 😂 will definitely be heading to the site to find that one.

Not in my store, I saw them yesterday, very nice, most are buying online, hence they're out of order.
Sadly the COS and Issy Miyake Plisse are both poly, I love the look but poly in Florida is no good.
I am 54 years old and you were my 1st ever you tube subscription as I loved your videos… since then I have subscribed to just a few more … but I have to say non match up to yours … for many reasons, including your honesty and really good style. So, although I am probably double your age … you have inspired me to buy the following which is actually something I would never be influenced by. All from M&S (because for my age, although I love lots of styles…. lots of styles do not like me anymore 😮). So I have bought this week … 2 x different pairs of Sandals .. 1 x bag … 1 x wide leg trousers .. and a skirt and I am sooooooooooo happy with my purchases…. I kinda feel like I am…. (and yes I am going to use the word) ‘trendy’ again… but without really trying. As well as looking age appropriate, I completely get your ethos… I beg that you continue with these videos because I would miss your guidance and advice….

Totally agree with the polyester lining. I wore this linen suit for a work event in Florida and by the time I'd walked to the conference centre I was a sweaty mess.

I agree. I’ve been a fan for about the last 10 years but they’ve always had very inconsistent collections. Some seasons great and some seasons not so (for me anyway). But for the last couple of years they have been excelling 🙌🏼
Unfortunately, M&S left Central Europe some years ago... I'll never stop regretting, I still have some items that I've been wearing for years. 😢

@@EmmaHill I used to only go there for underwear and plain T-shirts but I’ve got some great suits/skirts in there recently. My local one has a huge beauty range now too with products I could only get online or in France before.

I saw the 3-piece linen suit online, got excited, clicked on composition and... polyester lining. Completely agree it's a let down. I buy linen to breathe! It looks stunning though, I'm still tempted. I've had linings removed on blazers successfully but on a waistcoat I think I'd need to replace it and that gets spendy and doesn't even always work right. I may just keep searching for a linen 3-piece with cotton or viscose linings.

It’s so disappointing given that they are already using other fabrics like viscose, it would have been an easy swap. Fortunately the trousers aren’t lined so they feel lovely 🙌🏼

M & S have so much acrylic and viscose these days and it doesn't match the price they are charging for items. Also using poor countries to produce the items it's not good for their image. Put off by this issue and their cashmere is not as good as it used to be. Perfume sounds good. Thank you for your honest opinions Emma.

I was getting excited to buy the suit, until you mentioned the polyester lining. That’s a deal-breaker for me, too. There’s no point in wearing cool, breathable linen if the lining is hot, sweaty plastic! I wish the apparel industry would revert to rayon/viscose linings, the standard when I was in my 20s and 30s, they are very cool and breathable. Upgrading linings to this fabric wouldn’t even cost them much, pennies per garment. Charge us $10 more, we don’t care!

I don't understand why they keep on using polyester linings for linen or cotton vests/blazers. I bought a nice H&M linen blazer, but had to send it back as soon as I saw the polyester lining inside😅 Doesn't make any sense
The frustration is real but it’ll be down to cost and availability because poly was the go-to for yeeeeeears. It’s time for a change now though 🙌🏼

I was looking at a cotton skirt similar on Uniqlo but been heavy round my tummy I feel the elastic might make it look worse, might have to try one. Happy Easter 😊
Hi Emma great haul liked everything except the polyester set from Autograph range ,can’t stand that plastic next to my skin ,linen and cotton wool and cashmere all the way ! I buy 98 percent of my clothing from M&S always have it just suits my body shape.Enjoy Easter 🐣

Emma, you do know the pleats please range from Miyake is all 100% polyester so in comparison the M&S pleated set is at an amazing price and looks really cool. I think that type of clothing has to be made of polyester for it to move and function the way it does not that I love polyester myself and try to stick to natural fabrics but just thought I’d point that out in case people thought the Miyake stuff was better. Loved the linen trousers and that white jumper the most.
viscose and modal can shrink and that may be why they used polyester.
I like the tie lining in the basket as I always think about pick pockets nowadays

I went yesterday day and left with 7 pairs of chino in all the colours available, so pleased at the price point of 27.50 I was so pleased with the fit too.

Doing pleated designs in polyester or majority-polyester means they can be machine washed. The heat sets the shape in the synthetic in a way that can’t be removed by water, unlike natural fabrics which would require dry cleaning. One learns this the hard way after washing out pleats from fabrics like cotton and wool. So synthetic is a more practical and economic option for the average shopper if using this technique (now whether this technique is worth adding more plastic to the planet is another question).
I totally get the advantages of poly but this particular poly feels awful. As I mentioned with regards to the poly crepe trousers they feel lovely, nothing like the black set and they’re not even Autograph 🫠

The drawstring closure is a bonus in the tan leather front plaque basket bag, although it needs to be a couple of inches below the edge of the bag so you dont see the cotton fabric and drawstring. It would drive me nuts if I could see it!!
You can hide it lower in the bag if you don’t pull it as tight as I did 👍🏼

Thanks for mentioning the fabrics. I won’t buy items with artificial fibres such as acrylic and polyester for environmental reasons. M&S have far too much of these kinds of fabrics.
Unfortunately, the US M&S website has only a small selection of their offerings in the UK, which I hear is vast. I find some things, but many YT-linked items just aren’t available here. We don’t really have a department store here that is comparable, online or in bricks and mortar.
That’s my biggest complaint about high street linen…they always seem to be lined in polyester. Totally defeats the breathability of the linen.

I totally agree with you on COS plisse black pant set. I purchased it too. You kept pulling on the pants when trying them on so did I a sign that it'snot good. Amazingly enough the pulling caused the creases to fall out or maybe it came like that. Im not sure. Also I dont know if they will return after washing. The material is AWFUL so disappointing, I purchased a chocolate brown pant set in the late 80s early 90s & the material was far better & the creases stayed without any issues even with sitting, pulling, or washing them. I wore that outfit a ton h each washing came out looking brand new. I absolutely love it❣️

Fingers crossed that Zalando will add further styles, they already added the blazer and vest but still missing the trousers. In Germany it's the best possibility I know to shop M&S items! Does anyone know further?

Thank you so much for calling Marks & Spark out for using so much plastic in their clothing. I do think it's a real cheek - especially since they always go on about being so focused on environmental issues (Plan A etc.). Big fan of M&S a lot of a time but they should be doing better on this - no excuse really.

Thanks Emma, another great video. I so appreciate your mentioning the fiber content of the clothes, it’s the most important criterion to me in choosing wardrobe items. I can’t wear any plastics, i.e. synthetic fibers, and that severely limits my choices. Fast-fashion and a lot of other high-street fashion brands are not very wearable because of the dominance of polyester, acrylic, nylon, etc., and blends containing them. The “manmade cellulosic fibers” like viscose are ok, I think because they’re made from plant fibers, not petrochemicals, and they breathe.❤

Can you make a video about who can wear wide- leg vs straight-leg trousers for a 5.4 tall to a 5.7 makes a big difference in what type of trousers to wear right?

I think the Isley Miyake styles are also 100% polyester though, not even recycled, so at least these are a bit better value for money

M&S have been terrible for years and I too lately have actually found things I’ve wanted to buy
Appreciate the good honest review of the clothes and accessories. Have to agree 100% about M & S letting themselves down by introducing fabric that cheapen the goods. I am so surprised that they use polyester and yet have dropped their policy of a “bag for life” in favour of overpriced paper bags. These bags fall to bits if you purchase frozen goods our (heaven forbid) you get caught in the rain when taking goods home.
Love the smarter fit linen trousers they look amazing. I do like a straw bag in summer too, I got a Loewe dupe from Etsy last year which I loved but it got damaged so the M&S one could be a nice replacement. Great video, thanks for trying on and showing what’s new, definitely worth going in for a mooch around.
Lovely selection Emma, I'm very happy when you shop in very accessible M&S! The problem is their lack of stock, particularly in longer lengths, I always sign up for notifications but sometimes they're already back out of stock by the time I've clicked into the item 😫. Sizing is irratic too, you can order two of the same size and they often fit very differently, mind you that's the same with a lot of stores. I still love them though, they've always been part of my life & my mum worked for them for many many years so my affection for them is close 🙂. Hope you're having a lovely weekend x

Went in to buy the navy linen trousers and they only had 1 pair in my size and they were damaged - out of stock online too! Gutted 😅
The pleats set is very much like the one Uniqlo has right now. Not sure about the fabric though
Pleats please sets are made of 100% polyester and are 6 times the price. It’s the only material that holds the pleats while allowing machine wash.
