It's interesting how we evolve away from what we think we need/must have. So much of it is what we see in the media, and not really likeable and useful in their own right.
That is very true but I also think it is a change of priorities as you get older. For one reason or another different aspects of your life become more important ❤️
No one will go out of their way just to ask you if your bag is authentic right???🤭 if she’s rocking that authentic or replica expensive bag good for her .My favorite seller is *suluxy* , they are truly amazing with their products
Sis, your just as funny on here than TikTok...lol! I purchased a *jklux* from Rainbow... and I get so many compliments on that bag and the chain is heavy. Then I came across a Chanel tote bag. (I only use it to travel) every time I'm in the airport, women stop me about that tote. Side note: Chanel uses gold plated now for the logo.
Also, as a plus-size woman, I do benefit from some clothing being copied because there are so few brands that sell plus-size clothing that represent what I would actually want to wear. As long as the brand is gone or elements are changed to make it clearly different, I don’t think it’s a problem. Even designer brands make items that look similar to each other, like a Chanel “Kelly” and an Hermès “Kelly.” No one will notice that your bag is from *hotdups* .
I am very moved. I hope more people can see this video and more people will be inspired. The items we buy should be used by us, not controlled by the items. If I really like a luxury item, I will choose *hotdups*
I’ve followed you for years and this is one of my favs. I love your honest , detailed and insightful observation on what motivates us to purchase things at diff phases of our life. It’s a good reminder to be mindful about how we spend money. Sure, we all evolve as do trends, but we’re provided so much external stimuli to buy buy buy, being more conscious of our “why “ when making purchases is so important. Happy Holidays.
"I love a good *gtdupe* because it helps me decide if I want to buy the real thing or NOT." That part right there. That's IT. I feel like people stigmatize dupes but for me, I pause on large purchases that are trendy or when I feel the over consumption mania setting in FOR ME

It is really important to be able to use it safely after buying it. You still need to worry about scratching it when you carry it out. You can't do what you should focus on when you go out. To be frank, it is just a burden. I often choose *hotdups* , so I won't feel bad if there are any problems.
I have a *hotdups* bag that I bought last year and it is a LV white catogram speedy. It is counter quality and has a beautiful sheen now so the leather is real. I guess as long as it makes you happy.
I see a lot of suede bags this season and refuse to get sucked in to buy any suede!!! I love suede on a jacket but not on a bag!!! I enjoyed this video because of your honesty!!
"I love a good *gtdupe* because it helps me decide if I want to buy the real thing or NOT." That part right there. That's IT. I feel like people stigmatize dupes but for me, I pause on large purchases that are trendy or when I feel the over consumption mania setting in FOR ME. (It's something I struggle with LOL! I'm easily convinced to buy things I don't wear or use. They'll literally have the tags and I'll even forget I bought something and have 2 or 3 of them in my closet.) Love this video!
If you can't afford a designer bag and feel some type of way about expensive designer shit then DON'T FUCKING WATCH THE VIDEO. Like do ya'll even read the tittle of the videos before clicking on it? It clearly says in the tittle the video will be about designer bags. I find these types of videos very helpful even though I can't afford any of these bags yet, but I know one day I will. And I want to know which designer bag will be really worth my hard earn money and I will get the most use of. That being said, if you read this thank you for sharing this video with us ,please make more videos like this. Maybe *jklux* next?
I do like the black patent leather by Celine. It goes with everything, no matter the weather. But, the Kelly Bulgari is so pretty. It was hard to choose. You look amazing, by the way. *gtdupe*
I read a quote once - when I hit a point where I could afford any luxury bag, I realized I no longer wanted them. Life changes and so do priorities. Also I think it’s not very safe to carry or wear things of high value which is why a lot of people with wealth wear low key items. I personally prefer your current handbag collection.
Great content! Yes, I used to have a misconception that if I bought a luxury bag, it would last me a long time because everyone said it was worth the money. So I often buy luxury bags on this site. *gtdupe*
Hi Emma, well I loved this time evolving handbag video ! But also, your high heals, long legs in skinny leggings and jeans - catwalk model style - brilliant 👏 👌 how time flies, now we are in baggy trousers, country woolies with beanie hats and wellies. But we did these times which seem to be a long time ago, but looking at your video feels like yesterday. Thank you for posting. I followed you all throughout your time on yourube and enjoyed and enjoy what you share. ❤
The Gucci dionysus bag is actually on my radar now. Sometimes I purposely wait until all the hype has died down so I can determine if I genuinely love the bag or I’m buying into the trend.
Yes to this 🙌🏼 I have bags that I have bought way after them being a trend, my Celine Classic bag for example. It is quite a classic style but nonetheless it was very much an ‘IT bag’ back in the 2010’s. I bought it 8 years after it was released and I still love it 💘
Are these issues happening if these bags are used daily? I just got the pochette metis in monogram canvas from the Kusama collection. I love the multicolored polka dots and hope they don’t melt on me, lol. But I don’t think it’ll be in my regular rotation. I also have a NoeNoe in DA but only use that a few times a year in the spring and summer so I haven’t put that much wear and tear into it. I hope I don’t see the fraying for a while. Also, I’m saving up for a *jklux* . Has your colleague seen the same issues with that size? I don’t mind some relaxation in shape but I don’t want it to be a puddle either. Thanks for the video!
The personal experience you summarized at the end is really great❤! Believe in yourself🌼, whether you have luxury goods or not. You are a *hotdups* with beautiful temperament and intelligence
"That is 'It' from me". 😂. Yes, I recognize a lot! Very relatable everything! I owned a Chanel (sold it) owned a Dior travelbag (was stolen), owned a Givenchy & LV (sold them). I worked for 5 years in luxury leather goods, so the temptation was big. But in that time I learned só much: the % you pay for the brand & the logo. I learned to recognize quality leather bags. It's a work horse, it doesn't add more to your value, it's not mainly about branding and hypes. So I can tótally relate to your point of view. Now I always think "which travel trip can I make for that money?" 😂❤
This is so sad because we know LV canvas gets thinner over time but Goyard’s canvas is literally paper thin. Most of their bags are leather lined but for me a big reason to own a coated canvas *hotdups* bag is that it is lightweight and indestructible
I also envied people who carried luxury bags at the beginning. Later, after thinking about some problems, I only bought those that were suitable for me and could afford them. Only after buying them, I would be willing to use them for a long time. I think this is the most important thing👍 *hotdups*
Although I can buy bags, I pay more attention to practicality, storage and versatility. The most expensive bag is about 500 yuan (buy a fake *hotdups* bag). I still don’t understand those bags that cost more than 10,000 yuan. In addition to the brand name, the color, pattern, logo, capacity and design are not practical at all. The capacity is so small that it is difficult to put a mobile phone or wallet. The pattern, color and design are very monotonous. It’s just like carrying a decorative item with a logo.
I am a bag lady so found your video interesting. I too have reduced my collection. For me it’s about size and no or minimal logos. Your honesty was refreshing and appreciated. Best wishes
Great video, Emma! I can completely relate-my perspective on bags has evolved so much over the past few years too. I'm no longer drawn to overrated, overly expensive designer bags. Instead, I gravitate toward high-quality options from small independent designers or even the high street (love COS), as long as the materials and craftsmanship are excellent.
Home ownership and renovations cured me of spending crazy amounts of money on things like bags. I wish I had the money now. It's part of maturing for some people. Fabulous video!
Hi Emma. I guess many thousands of consumers have invested in ‘trend’ items but our lifestyles change over the years. Also, city life and rural life makes a huge difference to what we invest in fashion-wise. I think I’ve been lucky that I have always loved the boho style which don’t have a time scale and have never bought named brands or luxury goods. I spent so much time at bazaars, vintage and second hand shops that I have a lot of very individual pieces which I’ve had for years.Personally, I hate logos and by not being into designer brands, I’ve saved huge amounts of money.I really respect individuality - I’ve always admired your styling ,chats and advice and most of us learn from our mistakes!❤️🌲
It doesn’t matter if you can afford it, but when you can’t afford it or it’s very difficult, you really need to think clearly about why you buy it, and don’t regret it after buying it. I decided that for those friends who don’t have the ability at present, *hotdups* is a good choice.
My only bag brand is FOSSIL which are ALL preloved leather for being practical with the odd canvas / woven one's for summer . I do sell them sometimes when one catches my eye on Ebay but try to keep my collection sensible . I remember most of your bags & loved your wavy bob hairstyle x
This was super interesting as it really helps to focus on key things to think about when adding things to your wardrobe. Practicality is so important, will it dig in or be tight? Is it a colour that will go with your other stuff? Is it so fancy that you are scared to wear it? Or is it so delicate that it will be easily damaged? Will definitely take these into account when thinking about my next spenny purchase
This was really fun to watch! I remember your Chloe Faye/ Tess era and that bracelet bag. We evolve over time, thus our needs and wants do as well. The evolution is awesome as many of our lifestyles are evolving right alongside you! I’m all about comfort and practicality now. No finicky or heavy bags, nothing too tiny either- as adorable as they are! They just don’t suit my needs and I, like you, don’t want to have anything I don’t use. I recently sold several bags I rarely used to The Real Real. Some I questioned, but I am so relieved now that they’re gone and know I’ll use what I have more. And if not, they’ll go! I’m also buying less because I just don’t need much and don’t desire a “collection”. The only 2 bags I’ve bought in the past couple of years are a non brand tote (that has been so practical and used!) and a small non brand cutesy clutch. I didn’t spend much which I appreciate since I know it’ll only be an occasion piece. With age comes an understanding of who we are (vs who we think we are, or want to be) and what actually works for us. Thank you for sharing your lessons, so helpful and appreciated!!
I remember how you were the one who inspired me to buy my mama baguette some years ago, a bag that a looooooooooove and use a lot to this day, but is nice to see how people evolve and change through time
Loved this video, Emma. All of my LV bags with the logos were purchases I made to satisfy my early twenty-something years when I could barely afford rent. The only LV bag I still use is my Speedy in the checkered print because it’s not as flashy. Now that I’m in my 40s, I’m all about minimal branding.
Loved the red YSL bag! And the shoes you wore with it! To die for! I see red as almost another neutral. Very classic & looks great with all your standard neutrals ie black, grey, tan, beige. But then I love the colour red itself.
I feel the same way about the color red...a neutral to me. My favorite color, too!!! My dream is to own a closet - mostly red...like Elle from Legally Blonde with her pink!
I'm just in middle off big sorting out bags / shoes /coats / clothes etc and think the money what's been spent on them ....I've just got fed up off so much stuff things stuck around not seen light off day so now been very careful off what I'm spending and things I buy for just cause they there xx love your videos emma ❤
Have another version of the large Antigona and use it every day for work since it holds my laptop… but didn’t have it when it was an IT bag, so maybe that is why I’m not tired of it.. has used it over 500 times now and also bought it second hand. It’s about what you love, you love because it speaks to you when it’s not trending… 😊
This is exactly my point 🙌🏼. I bought my Celine classic 8 years after it was an ‘It bag’ back in the early 2010’s and I love it. That bag will forever be in my wardrobe ❤️
My Chanel SA told me they are raising prices to discourage reselling. Prices in the UK have increased by 64%, which is crazy to me and I will not be buying any bags from them anytime soon. I feel their prices are too high right now and I have been buying Chanel recently at *hotdups* .
It is not luxury goods that give value to people, but people give luxury goods value; as long as you are confident enough, even if you bring a replica, *gtdupe* it will still be a luxury product in the eyes of others
The change in taste is a process that you've done exceptionally well I enjoyed viewing a snipit of your past wardrobes I did like your little red flats and thanks for today's post
Such an interesting vlog Emma - I really enjoyed it. I'm a bit older than you but also got sucked into the 'It' bag phenomena a few years ago. I also remember those bags with the heavy hardwear as well! By the time you had put all your day to day stuff in it, it was like lugging a suitcase down the road!😂 Anything to look a bit cool! I doubt if my style will change now - very minimalist like you and I'm so comfortable with this. I look at the high end designer bags which still have the large logos and think why? I must say though I still rather like the classic Chanel vintage flap in black. I did tinker with the idea of buying one pre-loved at one stage but don't think I'll bother now as I've lost the real yearn for it. You've got the right idea of storing your Chanel's safely away as investment pieces. I'm sure they will increase price wise fabulously in time. Happy Sunday to you, Simon and the Bs. Xxx
I get what you’re saying…I’ve become more subtle in branding as well, but there are certain bags I will always have…even if they have logos…because they are classic and beautiful in my opinion. For example, I adore my LV speedy in monogram, all my YSL bags that are such nice quality and beautiful leather….and I love my Gucci horsebit shoulder bag in white and am wanting the ophidia tote in brown. This year I have a dark brown suede bag with no logos and I enjoy that as well. I also enjoy my Hermes belts, ysl, Loewe, and Gucci thinner belts and they all have logos. It kinda depends on what else I’m wearing. Great video and I love hearing your thoughts.
100%, it's always going to be down to each individuals personal taste and what they like to wear. I'm a massive advocate for wearing what makes you happy and confident ❤️
I’m a long time follower as well and my bag purchases are heavily inspired by you 😌 I can not access the designer versions but I bought dupes of Chloe and Loewe model bags over the years and I can say that Chloe bags looks so cool but even the dupes are absolutely hard to use. They’re heavy with the hardware on them. I still have a Faye backpack dupe and I keep it for nostalgic reasons. Sold a Faye Day dupe, it was impossible to carry. Gorgeous bag tho. I don’t like the replicas of some designer brands like Chanel or YSL because they’re so tacky with the huge branding of them but if there are no branding and they’re like similar models I call them dupes 😁
I remember Jessica Simpson and the Gucci hobos. There’s a blast from the past. I still remember the first classic flap cc you bought and that video about the purchase experience. That was a fun watch.
This was so much fun, seeing all those old outfits. You should have kept the vintage LV and Fendi though, some variation will be nice when you're finally over the super minimalist styles.
Extremely brilliant video. thanks Emma. It was amazing to see your journey and I have almost had the same journey as you. Can you now complete this, but focusing on the bags you own NOW. What they are, why you love them, and what they offer that the previous bags did not. In other words - what works for you now.. I am sure everyone will be interested in a video like that to round it off...eh girls ?
Thank you for watching ❤️ I did do an updated bag collection a couple of weeks ago which prompted this video as so many people asked why I had culled certain bags. So if you check out the channel you will see the updated bag collection there, probably 2 or 3 weeks ago ❤️
I think my first "Emma" video featured both the Chloe Fayes and the fact that the first one was a nightmare to keep clean. It's great to see your bag evolution. Of the ones you've parted ways with the Saint Laurent with the Y logo is the one I wouldn't mind owning. There were a couple of others, but your reasons for having parted ways with them resonate with me. I'm definitely more of an understated bag lover, although if the design of a bag really ticks a lot of boxes, I can see my way to going a little bit "loud" although this is usually with colour.
love the look at 22:05, still very current in my opinion (the brown!), and timeless! Right now if I am buying anything expensive or too bling to wear, I am not selling it, I am keeping it in case it has a revival in a few years or if I want to pass it on to my daughter (she is only 18 months so these will be super vintage :D)
When I was on my early 20s I could never imagine affording designer items, and now, when I do, I am so Incredibly happy I only look for vintage sturdy quality which are still standing and suits perfectly my preference.
To be honest with you my earnings changed very dramatically in a short period of time and I think I just got carried away with this new ability to be able to afford these types of items. I also desperately wanted to be in with the fashion week pack and thought having luxury goods was the way to do that. I never actually made it in with the fashion week pack but I had a small taster and absolutely hated it. The things we do when we’re younger eh 🫠
What a great trip down memory lane not only how you remember your sold bags but what you were doing at the time and dare I say what you were wearing on some at the time 😊 really enjoyed this, thankyou Emma
The Gucci 'camera' bag was called the 'disco' - I loved the shape of it but bought a very similar navy camera bag from Coach at a fraction of the price after seeing a Lily Pebbles review of the disco which pointed out some of it's flaws. The Coach bag has proved to be very superior and I still use it most days 5 years later! Sadly Coach no longer make my bag as I'd love to get another one. The bag I still would love is the Chloe Tess - mainly because I like a saddle bag - but I don't like gold hardware, and can't really justify the price!
Morning from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Sitting having a coffee watching your channel which is my favorite and I never miss. Loved going down memory lane with you and your bags. I just want to say thank you for your inspiring videos which have been a catalyst to a better life for me and friends and family around me. 💚
Emma, I just feel compelled to say that I love all of your outfits and well you just look lovely in all of the styles you chose then and now. I am always very inspired by your timeless sense of style, looking good at every point.
Bicester Village business model is bags are made for them. Ask the local Sales Assistant. Not every brand does this but most do. This is the business model everywhere in the states. Less in mainland Europe. Always ask the local SA. They will tell you and why. Speaking the local language helps.
Exactly what I said in the video 🙊 This used to be the case when I went there regularly a few years ago but wasn’t sure if it still was. However as I mentioned they were also bags that were not sold in retail stores, often really bold colours. This info was given to me by the sales staff.
Fun video Emma. Love seeing your fashion bag progression. We all have made similar purchase mistakes. Thanks to you, I have whittled down my clothing to keep only my most durable well made and classic pieces. Very freeing to let go of those "must haves" that were impulsive purchases which frankly made me feel empty and foolish for letting social trends dictate my purchases. With age comes wisdom (sometimes...)
@@EmmaHillembarrassed** because that was the next video i watched. Loved it! I was comparing it to my shopping habits over the years (smaller scale), and I realized that because i never liked logos, so i mostly saved money over that period. I did build muscles with a similar chloe, wore to death my ysl tote and a balanciaga town (smaller) and all sold. Your outfits stood the test of time, that’s pretty awesome! At the antigonia era, it looked too professional for me, but now, I think it’d work well for me. So thanks for showing that!
I absolutely love love suede but I would have to agree it is very impracticable even in dark chocolate brown and black. The elements just does a number to anything suede.
I think when it comes to selecting "it bags", you have to think long and hard if its actually your own personal style. I still have the chloe drew bag and thats because it goes so well with my style (not really the exact 2012-2016 style but more 70s flowy style. A more minimalist version of boho). Even if something is an "it" bag, if its true to your style, the bag will always be classic to you
I couldn’t agree more. I still have the Celine Classic bag which I bought 8 years after it was an ‘It bag’ in the early 2010’s. That fits in with my style perfectly and is a forever bag.
The Gucci soho disco!! I will always regret not getting it! It was $750 almost a decade ago and now it’s about 2.5k and they aren’t even as nice 😭 I always wish I had bought a red one but I was in grad school and couldn’t justify the price at the time!
You looked so beautiful back then and ican remember those trends 😅. However today your hair is stunning and the colour is so beautiful. And of course you still beautiful.😊
Great video - very interesting 👏🏼 Thank you 🥰 Would you consider doing another handbag one of the bags you have in your collection now and why you have them? Either from many years ago and you’ve kept them or more recent purchases. Think that would be another excellent video showing how your style has evolved 😘 xx
This video was requested from my most recent bag collection video from a couple of weeks ago which shows the bags I have left. That video should answer your questions ❤️
I love designer brand wallets alot as they are more affordable for me. I was a big fan of the Chloe Paddington leather handbags there like a tote bag. I use to be obsessed with those. Kinda affordable that didn’t break the bank. I also love the Gucci Disco Bag in black. My favourite Chanel are the Boy Leather crossbody bag I thought you had one too? Also do you remember the Chanel Classic Flap bag with the burgundy colour leather inside? That is also my favourite. I prefer silver metal aswell not a fan of the gold metal.
I remember the Paddington back when that came out. It was well out of my budget back then as I was only a teenager so it was just a bag that I lusted after. I used to have a replica Chanel Boy bag before I could afford to buy real designer bags, it was my attempt of ‘fake it before you make it’ 🙈. About a year later I made a friend who had so many real Chanel bags and she would let me borrow them for outfit photos 🥰
We def evolve over the years. I've sold so many! And I'm always questioning if a bag will compete with another in my now curated collection. I now do not like to have too many of the same categories. Too many blacks or too many evening bags. Just a couple in each category so they all get used. I also ask myself what outfits will pair with this already in my closet. If I have to buy something to go with, I most likely can do quite fine without it
That was so interesting. I noticed in your past photos that you wore very high heels. You seem to go much more for comfort nowadays. It’s amazing how our style evolves into things that last and are more practical.
The other day I put one of my bags for sale, and my husband said “Don’t sell it, I bought it for you while on vacation and I want you to keep it for eternity”. So it sits in my closet again.
I think it’s the small logo and discreet designer bags are the same as the big logo ones. In the sense that is just a new trend to look minimalist and old money. On a side note, I definitely went down the beige route rabbit hole when I got closer to 40. Remember you look amazing in colour, we don’t have to fade the older we get 😂❤
Well it’s a trend now but hasn’t always been, that was my whole point 🙈. Trends come and go, you have to find items that you love regardless of if they fit into a current trend or not. My minimal bags have been very much not a trend until the quiet luxury trend became a thing. And this trend will be over and logos will be back, vintage will be back, trends come and go. I personally just don’t like colour. It doesn’t make me feel good, doesn’t make me feel comfortable and I just don’t like the look of it on myself. So I don’t see it as fading, I think that it’s the opposite. Getting to an age where I know exactly what I want and what I like regardless of others opinions. I wouldn’t trade that for anything 🙌🏼
That was really a very entertaining video, thank you for that😉 To date I only own one designer bag, the Loewe puzzle bag in dark blue with silver hardware. I love this bag and will keep it forever. If I'm honest, I would definitely have a few more bags if I had been willing to spend the money on them. Today I'm glad I didn't do it.
I feel the same about cars. I’ve never bought an expensive car or even a ‘nice’ car because I don’t see the point and they just lose a lot of value the moment they’re bought. But everyone’s different and like to spend their money on different things. I must admit though my desire for luxury items has definitely faded a lot over the last couple of years. Priorities have changed as I’ve got older and had a change in lifestyle 😊
Brilliant video Emma...followed you long enough to remember those times too. Been there myself ...all the designer bags I once had (bar 1- my black Puzzle) have all gone now. Different lifestyle now with different needs. 🖤
Thanks for your honest review of your past bag collection. I personally could never spend that much money on a handbag. Dogs on the other hand.......😅 I love your sofa, where is it from? We need a new sofa that's practical with animals.
This sofa is from sofa.com but our other sofa in the TV area where we spend most of our time is an Ikea sofa and ALL covers (including arms, base, back etc) are removable and washable which is ideal for pets. I would always recommend an Ikea sofa for that reason 🙌🏼
I m sorry but I have two 😊 I would like purchase a designer bag for myself but I am struggle to lost my money . Any suggesstion for both investment and all tıme stable poınt? Not exactly model name brand or style wise… second one will be a bit silly can you sort your crossbody / box bag fav? Your taste is delicious ❤
Really sorry if I have misunderstood the question but are you looking for a recommendation for an investment bag? If you were looking for a designer bag for investment check out my recent handbag collection video as I run through all the bags I currently have and reasons why I love them, so hopefully that would be a helpful video for you ❤️
Well that was a trip down memory lane, I remember you buying every single one of them 😂 that Chanel tote tho is lovely! And I love the monogram Celine. Wouldn’t mind a slightly larger version of that myself 😂
It's so odd to see photos of you wearing colour, high heals, logos etc :) It was nice but so different from nowadays. I love your style now, very much like mine, that's why you have inspired me in these last few years more than the previous ones.
I relate so much with today's video, Emma. Especially in the part with brands/logos. I think I'm an exception who has a few bags, which I use interchangeably in my everyday life. But I admit I own a red one for summer days! 😄😉
I try to pursue minimal spending life (its not minimalistic, im just trying to reduce number of purchases and to get quality items) because i cant throw things out. i feel extremely guilty throwing unused things out or getting rid of "sentimental" items, so just not buying things is the best proactive way for me 😂 I went to Celine outlet recently and they had Phoebe Philo items (!!!). You have no idea all the urges i had, but i calm myself down thinking i only use longchamp at work for 2.5lbs laptop and notes and i barely use any other celine bags i own 🥴
So many great bags and a great study of styles and trends that come and go. I remember watching that video back in the day and wanted to bad to purchase the Chloe bag went to the shop and drawled over it but the cost and practicality put it out of reach for me but did consider it at the time! lol. Great video I enjoyed this very much.Great to see you this Sunday! Have a great week.
This is way off topic, but thank you so much for speaking clearly and “normally”. Often I will find an interesting channel but the vlogger forces so much vocal fry in their voice that I can’t listen to it. On topic, always enjoy your content! From fashion to home, it is all great. And I love your sense of humor! So keep on going, please!
To be honest I have no idea where this term ‘vocal fry’ has come from. I actually get comments every week saying that I have “the worst vocal fry” and it’s only been over the last few months. This is just my voice, as I’m sure many other people who share online are just using their voices. People always want to pick an issue with something though 🙃
@ my brother’s ex-girlfriend is an opera singer (trained in Europe) and taught voice at the University of Washington for 11 years. She explained it as forcing your voice to the lowest octave with staccato. Very damaging but some women think it makes them sound edgy or smart. It doesn’t. You DO NOT have vocal fry and instead you come across as authentic and sincere. So, ignore the trolls; they think they are “edgy” and smart. They’re neither. [smile]. I need to amend my original post. It isn’t often that this happens just one or two. Sorry, I think I came across snarky myself and didn’t mean to.
@@terrymain515oh no worries at all. I think the term may have become a trend on TikTok or something because it’s never been mentioned until this year and now all of a sudden everyone’s a qualified vocal analyst 🤣
I'm SOOOO relieved I never had the funds for IT bags , or the big brands like Channel or Louis Vuitton , Gucci etc , I just know if I had I would have spent a small fortune !! These days for me it's all about the bag , rather than the name ! I go for smaller , more obscure brands that focus more on quality , longevity and timeless appeal , no big logos ! It's also so true how our tastes change , I used to be all about the sloppy Joe oversized satchel style bag , but now I'm more about smaller , more structured pieces , don't get me wrong , I still love a big tote , but in the end , unless you're shopping , what DO you put in them ?!! 🤔😂😂
I remember you also had a suede Gucci horsebit saddlebag and that bag has lived rentfree in my mind ever since. And I don´t even like Gucci as a brand. 😅
If I total up the value I spent on handbags there’s no property I could have bought for that amount. Maybe back in 1985 but not now 🙊 The funny thing is that having these bags grew our business so whilst I regret buying some of them, they did technically serve a purpose that I didn’t realise at the time x
I've watched your channel for so long I remember almost all of these bags from when you actually used them! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Thank you for watching x
@@EmmaHill Same! especially the Mums handmade cardigan image. One of my first saved pins :)
Me too!,
Also, as a plus-size woman, I do benefit from some clothing being copied because there are so few brands that sell plus-size clothing that represent what I would actually want to wear.

Carry the color of happiness on your back. Apart from happiness, everything else is secondary. *hotdups*
I loved this video. I would love a “reflection” video from you where you deep dive into why you value what you do today versus what you used to.
Thank you for coming along on the journey, we appreciate your support ❤️
The Gucci dionysus bag is actually on my radar now. Sometimes I purposely wait until all the hype has died down so I can determine if I genuinely love the bag or I’m buying into the trend.
Yes to this 🙌🏼 I have bags that I have bought way after them being a trend, my Celine Classic bag for example. It is quite a classic style but nonetheless it was very much an ‘IT bag’ back in the 2010’s. I bought it 8 years after it was released and I still love it 💘
Yes I totally agree! The *hotdups* bags are so worth it!
Same!! I got the Antigona super late some 3 or 4 years ago . LOVE IT
Are these issues happening if these bags are used daily?
Very, very true 👍
@@EmmaHill 😘
❤️
It doesn’t matter if you can afford it, but when you can’t afford it or it’s very difficult, you really need to think clearly about why you buy it, and don’t regret it after buying it. I decided that for those friends who don’t have the ability at present, *hotdups* is a good choice.
My only bag brand is FOSSIL which are ALL preloved leather for being practical with the odd canvas / woven one's for summer . I do sell them sometimes when one catches my eye on Ebay but try to keep my collection sensible . I remember most of your bags & loved your wavy bob hairstyle x
Thank you for being so honest, there is a lot for me to learn here.
Thank you for watching ❤️
This was super interesting as it really helps to focus on key things to think about when adding things to your wardrobe. Practicality is so important, will it dig in or be tight? Is it a colour that will go with your other stuff? Is it so fancy that you are scared to wear it? Or is it so delicate that it will be easily damaged? Will definitely take these into account when thinking about my next spenny purchase
I’m so happy that this is your takeaway from this video ❤️
Hi Emma! It’s great to see what you no longer own. It would be great to see your current collection and when you use them. Thanks for sharing.
This video was requested off the back of that video 🙊 I posted that video a couple of weeks ago if you want to check it out x
The red tote looks beautiful in your photos with your neutral outfits. It’s stunning
Not gonna lie, though… that red YSL tote with matching shoes was a LOOK! 😍
Haha thank you 😘
I remember how you were the one who inspired me to buy my mama baguette some years ago, a bag that a looooooooooove and use a lot to this day, but is nice to see how people evolve and change through time
Glad you are still enjoying it. It is/was a great bag for me, just my style changed and so it no longer got used ❤️
Loved this video, Emma.
Yeh unfortunately I don’t have the same feelings about it but I think other people look great in it 🙌🏼
Oh, the throwback to short blonde bob Emma was fantastic. I loved that hair on you!
The givenchy bag and the red ysl were GORGEOUS 😭😭😭
Not me literally going to run errands today with my red YSL tote 😂 I have the identical one that I bought 6 years ago and I love it to pieces.
Hey it’s a bloody lovely bag 🙌🏼 just not if you don’t wear red 🫣🤣
Your old style is so nostalgic for me and I miss those style days. I think it will come back around.
Yes! I absolutely miss her style from 2015-2018 (although, I perfectly understand why she might be at a different place in her life today).
Love your blond bob in the pictures x
Have another version of the large Antigona and use it every day for work since it holds my laptop… but didn’t have it when it was an IT bag, so maybe that is why I’m not tired of it.. has used it over 500 times now and also bought it second hand. It’s about what you love, you love because it speaks to you when it’s not trending… 😊
Antigona still looks so timeless and classy! I love this bag.
I totally agree with the large hardware aspect of bags. I’ve never enjoyed that design.
That was really interesting to watch xxx how styles change over the years & how we can succumb to trends
I love the white clutch from Bulgari, it’s so different, the leopard print design comes in second for me, and the patent leather is third. *gtdupe*
Thank you for your honesty. It also highlighted that I have followed you for a very long time 😊.
I live near the Mexican border. I always go for *gtdupe* , the quality is great. Some are made of leather and it's hard to tell if they are real.
@@EmmaHill yes, I agree! Love your style and fabulous ideas! You’ve almost talked me into a Loewe puzzle bag and exploring the row more.
I can absolutely relate to lusting after something, then being afraid to use it because you fear you might damage it.
*gtdupe* 1:1 mirror image replica bag, durable and wear-resistant. I like it a lot.
I still love the Gucci and Celine crossbody bags. Would love an updated sunglass collection video
You inspired me to buy the chloe tess in the exact same color, and I still use it weekly!
I love your style!!! Can you do a video of designer shoes you recommend currently have or no longer have..
Will you video the bags you are currently using? Thank you, Emma!!
I did an updated bag collection video a couple of weeks ago (it is linked in the description box) which shows all the bags I am currently wearing 👍
love the look at 22:05, still very current in my opinion (the brown!), and timeless! Right now if I am buying anything expensive or too bling to wear, I am not selling it, I am keeping it in case it has a revival in a few years or if I want to pass it on to my daughter (she is only 18 months so these will be super vintage :D)
That is a lovely idea 😍
Still love the Tess bag, even if it’s no longer an IT bag. It looked great with literally every outfit shown IMO.
I'm still loving my Tess bag even after all these years and that color works so well with so many outfits
The red saint laurent with the gucci sparkling shoes picture was what led me to your blog 😊🥰 💕💗
Thank you for watching ❤
Hope your having a wonderful day in Mexico, thank you for watching ❤️
As an OG subscriber (Zara nibbled hem knit - IYKYK 😂), this was a nice walk down memory lane. ❤
😆 Now that is a throw back ❤️ Thank you for your continued support ❤️
Emma, I just feel compelled to say that I love all of your outfits and well you just look lovely in all of the styles you chose then and now. I am always very inspired by your timeless sense of style, looking good at every point.
Thank you ❤️
I feel like this is one to save and repeat whenever I want to 1) buy suede 2) Buy a status bag 3) Buy a bag I don't need. Thank you!
Thank you for your honesty Emma. You definitely have beloved. And I love your style now!
Thank you x
Thanks Emma. The one I think might be a keeper is the Givenchy Antigona. The Gucci camera bag is the Soho Disco I think...learned that from you! 😂
Yes you are correct. My brain just couldn't find the name during filming 🤦♀️😆
Emma’s unabashed love of Disney is so charming and unexpected
Bicester Village business model is bags are made for them. Ask the local Sales Assistant. Not every brand does this but most do. This is the business model everywhere in the states. Less in mainland Europe. Always ask the local SA. They will tell you and why. Speaking the local language helps.
Exactly what I said in the video 🙊 This used to be the case when I went there regularly a few years ago but wasn’t sure if it still was. However as I mentioned they were also bags that were not sold in retail stores, often really bold colours. This info was given to me by the sales staff.
I owned and sold exactly the same Gucci Marmont Handbag for exactly the same reasons 😊❤
I’d love to see a video compilation of bags you bought from that era and still own/love.
I did do an updated bag collection a few weeks ago 👍
@@EmmaHillembarrassed** because that was the next video i watched. Loved it! I was comparing it to my shopping habits over the years (smaller scale), and I realized that because i never liked logos, so i mostly saved money over that period. I did build muscles with a similar chloe, wore to death my ysl tote and a balanciaga town (smaller) and all sold. Your outfits stood the test of time, that’s pretty awesome! At the antigonia era, it looked too professional for me, but now, I think it’d work well for me. So thanks for showing that!
Glad you enjoyed it too ❤️
I absolutely love love suede but I would have to agree it is very impracticable even in dark chocolate brown and black. The elements just does a number to anything suede.
One of the reasons I adore old Celine, is because for me, they remain workhorses that forever look *chefs kiss*
I work with a wealthy woman who owns a line of *gtdupe* “luxury” handbags.
Thank you ❤️
It was very interesting to hear you talked about the bags you let go or no longer use. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching x
Great video - very interesting 👏🏼
Thank you 🥰
Would you consider doing another handbag one of the bags you have in your collection now and why you have them? Either from many years ago and you’ve kept them or more recent purchases. Think that would be another excellent video showing how your style has evolved 😘 xx
This video was requested from my most recent bag collection video from a couple of weeks ago which shows the bags I have left. That video should answer your questions ❤️
Gucci disco bag was the name, & yes most of the Gucci bags , besides this one, still on their website.
Great video
Disco! That’s it 😂🙌🏼
Emma, you have achieved true handbag wisdom! 😊
😆 Thank you ❤️
I love designer brand wallets alot as they are more affordable for me.
Considering the it bags - Did you observe a similar thing in regards to shoes? Highheels etc.?
Oh definitely but again, not anymore. Especially not high heels 😆 I definitely opt for comfort now 👍
The other day I put one of my bags for sale, and my husband said “Don’t sell it, I bought it for you while on vacation and I want you to keep it for eternity”. So it sits in my closet again.
Oh 🫠🙈
Re: unidentified bag somewhere around 12:40 : that’s the YSL Cabas Chyc. You had the small, looks like.
@ absolut agree 😊🌹
If you were looking for a designer bag for investment check out my recent handbag collection video as I run through all the bags I currently have and reasons why I love them, so hopefully that would be a helpful video for you ❤️
I really enjoyed listening to you talk through all of this.
Thank you for watching ❤️
Well that was a trip down memory lane, I remember you buying every single one of them 😂 that Chanel tote tho is lovely! And I love the monogram Celine. Wouldn’t mind a slightly larger version of that myself 😂
Love this video. Loved seeing your past styles ❤
Thank you ❤️
It's so odd to see photos of you wearing colour, high heals, logos etc :) It was nice but so different from nowadays. I love your style now, very much like mine, that's why you have inspired me in these last few years more than the previous ones.
loved this video and watching also old photos from you and your style!!!
I still really love your handbag videos. ❤
Thank you ❤️
I relate so much with today's video, Emma. Especially in the part with brands/logos. I think I'm an exception who has a few bags, which I use interchangeably in my everyday life.
But I admit I own a red one for summer days! 😄😉
I try to pursue minimal spending life (its not minimalistic, im just trying to reduce number of purchases and to get quality items) because i cant throw things out. i feel extremely guilty throwing unused things out or getting rid of "sentimental" items, so just not buying things is the best proactive way for me 😂
I went to Celine outlet recently and they had Phoebe Philo items (!!!). You have no idea all the urges i had, but i calm myself down thinking i only use longchamp at work for 2.5lbs laptop and notes and i barely use any other celine bags i own 🥴
❤️
So many great bags and a great study of styles and trends that come and go. I remember watching that video back in the day and wanted to bad to purchase the Chloe bag went to the shop and drawled over it but the cost and practicality put it out of reach for me but did consider it at the time! lol. Great video I enjoyed this very much.Great to see you this Sunday! Have a great week.
Thank you for watching, Im glad you enjoyed it. Hope you have a great week too ❤️
I'm with you on the LV logo. I've always thought it was too much. And I'm not big on those colors of brown. Thank you!
The little sued Gucci Bag in Camel is stunning.
It is. I still look at it and think “what a beautiful bag” but it wouldn’t change the fact that I’d be too scared to wear it 🙈
This is way off topic, but thank you so much for speaking clearly and “normally”.
Loved going down memory lane with all the old photos😅
Haha me too 🙊😘
I'm SOOOO relieved I never had the funds for IT bags , or the big brands like Channel or Louis Vuitton , Gucci etc , I just know if I had I would have spent a small fortune !! 🤔😂😂
😆
Emma have you seen the new LePliage colour called ‘Terra’? I think you’d love it, it’s a perfect muted brown!
I shall check that out but I think once I’ve got a black one I’m all set 🙊
Those were good days (and bad too) but yes we were all swept away by those crazy blogger trends
I remember you also had a suede Gucci horsebit saddlebag and that bag has lived rentfree in my mind ever since. And I don´t even like Gucci as a brand. 😅
Love and appreciate your videos but when it comes to pricey bags... have to say, I'm glad I invested in real estate instead
If I total up the value I spent on handbags there’s no property I could have bought for that amount. Maybe back in 1985 but not now 🙊 The funny thing is that having these bags grew our business so whilst I regret buying some of them, they did technically serve a purpose that I didn’t realise at the time x
@@EmmaHill So true, the real estate landscape has certainly changed. Hats off to you for building your business, no mean feat!
That was really interesting and refreshingly honest!
Thank you for watching ❤️
Oh that Gucci Lady Web bag in the tan suede ❤. I wished I had known you planned to sell it, I would have bought it from you in a heartbeat😢
I do always put a story out on instagram whenever I am selling particular items and where they can be found 👍
@EmmaHill trust me to have missed that one! 💁♀️
