So true niga, I was so shocked that there was no drama in this video. I am thinking everyone watching has been cheated a little. But again Murphy law is sometime with planning ahead thing can go ticky boo. Lol
Many many thanks to you mate! Cheers so very much. Sorry about the cable ties. I was saving them for emergency repairs and the worst just didn’t happen! 😁
WAIT!!!! Did I just witness a drama free Andy Man's Garage? .... Well I never thought I'd see the day (maybe a little disappointed). Top marks to the subscriber for being an absolute gent in sending you the down pipes.
Should have clickbait titled it; 'It's a fix', which is what it was, the fixing of the downpipes problem, I mean. Nice filming while lying on the concrete. Top vid as always.
Lucky man Andy. High five to the follower who passed them onto you. You mentioned your dad. I look forward to the day you can visit again & possibly take his new bike for a local ride. I’ve got my sons Zephyr kind of in storage whilst he’s bunkered down in Norway with his Viking shield maiden. I take it for a spin about once a month & then pretty well give all metal surfaces a spray with the old WD40 before covering it with old sheets. You’ve now given me the idea to pay a little more attention to those pipe studs. Cheers mate, hope all is well. Ups & downs here in Australia, but certainly not as dire as many countries. 👍🏍😷🇦🇺
Totally! It all came together beautifully, huge thanks to Northern Ninja Runner! 😍 Nothing wrong with a bit of preventative maintenance! Hopefully you’ll never have to budge those pipes though. Glad things are ok for you guys down there. 👍🏻
That is so cool that guy gave you his not required down pipes that is just fantastic news I am also happy as my sore throat was simply a virus was tested for covid 19 to be told negative stay safe. Always have wd 40 in my garage
Holy crap good thing I watched this - otherwise I wouldn't know the pipe gaskets should be replace - I happen to have mine waiting to install right now...
Hi Andy I had a 1st Gen fzs Fazer 1000 for 5yrs, fantastic bike but I needed to repair the down pipes as well . 4 of the studs give up the ghost but i did manage to drill and replace them thank god . Top videos keep them coming 👍👍
nice bike! i have a gen 1 fz1 and I'm about to try wrapping it, thanks for all the tips. My headers are cracked as well, 1 tube ended up cracking all the way around and it started vibrating and sounding like garbage lol, i bought a used header off ebay for it.
I know the pain of removing exhaust studs from an old bike. Did it to my '99 VFR last year. We had to heat the block & weld testicles onto the studs to get them out. Thank god I have engineers for friends!
A spot of copper based anti-seize will keep those new to you, pipes in good wear and also help with future removal and helps with stress fractures from happening to the head studs. Just a thought.
Just replaced the front pads on my 2018 GSA and now kicking myself I didn’t film it!!; awesome luck with the nuts/studs, bet moonfleet/Del wished he had as much luck on his latest project👍😩👌 Thanks for sharing Andy👌
@ AndyManCam, do you have a picture of the crack on the original headers? also what caused the crack in the first place? I have never headers of OEM headers cracking ever.
That was tense, I know that feeling when you get to the point when you finally pick up that spanner.... good job and another great vid. In this mental world, bless you @nothern ninja runner
Great job, went really well. Andy, besides the rings, is exhaust paste necessary to create a gas seal when reinstalling the exhaust slop on or ok to just reinstall ? I only did an exhaust reinstall (full system on little Yamaha Sting) once after paint job many years ago and just reinstalled so was just wondering.
Mine need doing, and I'm bloody dreading it. Mine are in terrible shape, I allready know I will need a nut splitter, heat, drills, taps dies etc, mole grips. And a whole heap of patients. I just cant bring meself to get into it!! You were lucky thanks be to dog.
Garaged bikes are only good if they were kept maintained. Mine wasn't so despite relatively low mileage the owner had to replace the rear shock due to rust and generally the whole bike is just rust lol. It was cheap and ran properly though and that was what I needed at the time
That sounds like a bit of a nightmare! Were there holes in the roof?! Cheap has it’s benefits too though! My FZS600 was a rotter when i got it! But 500 quid was to good to pass up!
I bloody well hope you got a lottery ticket that day. I was expecting a swear jar full to over flowing with enough cash to buy a new bike. The sun shone on you for sure.
Thoroughly disappointed that the swear jar is empty. However the nut gods?! have clearly been watching how disgusting the rain gods have been to you. Top work on the video as always.
Downpipes? Aren't those manifolds, technically speaking? Downpipes afaik are the manifolds that carry the exhaust fumes from a turbocharger to the cat. Curious to know if in british english this is different?
Downpipes are manifolds. Turbo manifold, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, all manifolds! This particular manifold is made up of pipes, that go down. Downpipes. Also known as the collector or header pipes. Call them whatever you like. Many names, one thing.
My nuts were black and blue, but my stud nuts were rusted so much to the studs that the studs just came out without the nuts budging when I changed the Gaskets.
You lucky basterd haha, did this on my hornet a few months back and it was 3 days or cutting and drilling and re-tapping, nightmare! Did you put copper slip on the studs before reinstalling? I keep applying some in mine, every few months, for preventative maintenance.
Ouch. Sorry to hear that! TBH i was expecting the same for this adventure! I’m so happy it didn’t go that way! I didn’t put any copper slip on the studs. I imagine that they get so hot, that anything would just be burnt off pretty quickly. I could be wrong though!
No way.... it was too easy! My own 06 FZ1 had 85k miles on when i was remowing pipes for a engine swap. Nuts didn't give up so easy. Plus flanges were paper thin from rust and crumbled im my fingers so i had to make new ones myself as they're impossible to buy without paying for whole downpipes assembly. Im green from jelousy watching that..
Very poor video only tuned in to learn a couple of new swear words, and found a man doing a decent job of things I do hope this isn't going to be the norm 😁
Hey Andy I’m glad the transplant well for you on the bike. You didn’t even use the cable ties 😉
So true niga, I was so shocked that there was no drama in this video. I am thinking everyone watching has been cheated a little. But again Murphy law is sometime with planning ahead thing can go ticky boo. Lol
You sir are a legend very few people out there actually help people without wanting. Nice one 👍
Huge plug to you brother for stepping in and helping Andy out.
Many many thanks to you mate! Cheers so very much. Sorry about the cable ties. I was saving them for emergency repairs and the worst just didn’t happen! 😁
@@joewood5762 Thank you
It's nice that sometimes things go the way you want! Thnx for all the video's you make!
It had to happen sometime!! 😬

Awesome Northern Ninja Runner. That's what being a biker is about.
Absolute legend!

And the pipes live on! Nice work Andy and a huge shout out to North Ninga guy, man, boy. ☺ that was very magnanimous of him! Ride on Andy and be safe.
Cheers mate! Yep, thanks to incredible generosity, the journey continues!!
That is so cool that guy gave you his not required down pipes that is just fantastic news I am also happy as my sore throat was simply a virus was tested for covid 19 to be told negative stay safe. Always have wd 40 in my garage
Incredibly cool! Good news about your false alarm too!! WD40 for the win!
Nice 1 Andy. You were lucky with all the bolts not being seized.
Thanks Lyn. Absolutely, Lady luck was definitely on my side with this one!
Cracked down pipe can be stressful my thoughts with you mate. Glad someone offered you theirs 😉
Ow... my neck hurts just watching you do that. Oh to have a proper lift. You were really lucky with those exhaust nuts.
Tell me about it! A proper lift and enough space to actually walk around the bike would be pure heaven!
Holy crap good thing I watched this - otherwise I wouldn't know the pipe gaskets should be replace - I happen to have mine waiting to install right now...
Well, i forgot about the gaskets until it was too late aswell! 😂
Looks brand new! 👍
I know right! Looks great!

Ouch! Seems it’s a problem that can plague any and all bikes! Good that you got it sorted though Jason. Cheers mate!
Awesome to see folk paying it forward! :-) Nice one @Northern Ninja Runner

Good luck with the wrap! Hope all goes well. Enjoy the awesome bike!
No drama because it’s a quality product 👍🏼
I think more because it was protected from the elements for most of it’s life!
I know the pain of removing exhaust studs from an old bike. Did it to my '99 VFR last year. We had to heat the block & weld testicles onto the studs to get them out. Thank god I have engineers for friends!
Smooth transition, very nice 👍 Always a nice treat when things go on/off like that...blessed days.
Cheers Eric! I agree. I was expecting hours of graft, but was finished in 45 minutes!!
Top job, you were so lucky with those bolts! 👍👍
Super lucky! But I’m not complaining!!
I find these very, very helpful-thanks, Andy!
Calming to watch 👍
On My knees like a good Young Catholic boy ., Praying 🙏 . Watching ... 🏍️.
Gotta love the simplicity of the FZ1. Changing the exhaust on these is simple if the nuts move:)
Many of the jobs are easy, when they go to plan! Sadly we’ve all known it otherwise at least once!!
@@AndyManCam an hour job quickly turns to 2 hours... yes we all know:)
Glad it all went well.👍🏻
Thanks! Me too! 😊
Dodecagon is a fun name for double hex socket, octagonal socket is not something you need very often

Nice. Trigger's broom comes to mind!
Haha! Not far off!
@ AndyManCam, do you have a picture of the crack on the original headers? also what caused the crack in the first place? I have never headers of OEM headers cracking ever.
Sorry Sherlock, I’m afraid the pipes are long gone! 🕵️♂️
why wouldn't you fit a lighter set? or race pipe? or
For the reason that plagues most of us. Money. Lighter pipes and full systems don’t come cheap and unfortunately I’m not made of money! 😂
Some nice shiney pipes dude. This is my plan for winter maintenence this year... The Autosol treatment that is not the replacing of the pipes.
That was tense, I know that feeling when you get to the point when you finally pick up that spanner.... good job and another great vid. In this mental world, bless you @nothern ninja runner
That was the perfect garage tutorial.. Brilliant!!
Another great video Andy 👍🏻😎 Happy with BOS exhaust 💨?
Many thanks Jesper! Really happy with the BOS mate.
AndyManCam I’m looking into the full system from your countrymen from Delkevic 😎🏍💨. Or Bos Og Akrapovic 😂
Might have to put all of them on 😂😂😂
Did you removed the catalytic converter inside your new headers?
No i didn’t.
I am interested in how you cleaned the engine while the headers were off. What kind of products did you use ?
WD40 all the way! Then a bit of ordinary car polish.
Well done another great video I missed the swear words but glad it went smooth
Thanks Peter! I’m sure there’ll be plenty of swearing to come. I’ve still not gotten rid of the Garmin yet!! 😂
Good engineering on yams
Partially! I’ve had a few problems where yamaha left the engineering book in the toilets!
Thanks! I didn’t bother with any paste, and the seal seems just fine. 👍🏻
Amazed that went so easy! 👍
Top job mate
Many thanks Richie!
What's the best way to clean your down pipes ?
I use Autosol metal polish. amzn.to/3sSXg9v
Oh dear. I’m thinking positive and rust loosening thoughts for you!
Andy do you still have this bike? Or traded on the cb1000?
I traded in the FZ1 for the CB1000R, which i then traded in for a KTM 1090 Adventure. 🤙🏼
That continuous background tune made me think the end of the video was near more often than I dare to admit.
Haha! That just means you’ve been watching too many of my vids!! I didn’t actually think about that effect!! 🤣
Garaged bikes are only good if they were kept maintained. Mine wasn't so despite relatively low mileage the owner had to replace the rear shock due to rust and generally the whole bike is just rust lol. It was cheap and ran properly though and that was what I needed at the time

Now you gotta change your spark plugs so i can learn from ya lol since mine are do and your my go to fz mechanic 🙂
Haha! That’s a job I’ll be avoiding as long as possible! Although if you check out the quickshifter install, you’re already half way there.
6 out of 8 studs snapped on my fz6. Absolute nightmare
Do they still make the yamaha fzn 1??
Nope. They stopped with the 2015 run.
@@AndyManCam ah ok! What a shame. Thank you 👍👍
I bloody well hope you got a lottery ticket that day. I was expecting a swear jar full to over flowing with enough cash to buy a new bike. The sun shone on you for sure.
I wish i had! It was an unheard of success! I was expecting a far more eventful job too!!
I was kinda rooting for the lambda sensor to put up a last ditch attempt at giving us the goods, a story to tell our grand kids, but alas...
You lucky bugger! Have snapped a few of them in my time and am afraid to go anywhere near mine as there very corroded.
I was sh¥t scared of it too! So happy that it went the way it did!
Nice. Pipe
Thanks, I’ve been working out! 😚
clean
Thoroughly disappointed that the swear jar is empty. However the nut gods?! have clearly been watching how disgusting the rain gods have been to you. Top work on the video as always.
I can't believe we weren't treated to any barnyard sound-effects!
I’m really sorry (not really sorry!!) 😜
woo hoo,sounds great fella,

Downpipes? Aren't those manifolds, technically speaking?

Downpipes are manifolds. Turbo manifold, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, all manifolds! This particular manifold is made up of pipes, that go down. Downpipes. Also known as the collector or header pipes. Call them whatever you like. Many names, one thing.
You should re-torque those nuts after putting some miles on it, as it's aluminum the engine needs to be cold.
That are imposible.. lucky you..sometimes the luck is in your side. Mean the rain is not kind to you..often anyway..
Haha! Yep, rain is cruel, but the bolt gods were on my side! I’ll take the win!!
It was a very wise idea to soak those nuts for three days with WD40.👍
I’m glad i had the time to do that! Though they were always in pretty good nick tbh. This bike has clearly always been stored in the garage.
My nuts were black and blue, but my stud nuts were rusted so much to the studs that the studs just came out without the nuts budging when I changed the Gaskets.
Ouch. Still, better than the studs being stuck in the head. 👍🏻
You lucky basterd haha, did this on my hornet a few months back and it was 3 days or cutting and drilling and re-tapping, nightmare! Did you put copper slip on the studs before reinstalling? I keep applying some in mine, every few months, for preventative maintenance.

Pre-emptive twists on the cable?? I reckon you sacrificed some pre-emptive souls to Dantes dark demon of exhaust hell no.3 Jammy sod :)
Absolutely possible! It all went a little bit too smoothly!
I snapped 2 manifold studs. In my defence the studs where 22years old and about as solid as a wet paper bag 😂🤦♂️🤦♂️
But, but , how, what, .............................,............................................................. Nope, speachless!
