I still prefer the Enhanced Dwarven Crossbow. If I want to turn invisible I can just use the Shadowcloak of Nocturnal which can be easily reactivated via re-entering the sneaking position instead of having to reequip the bow. There's also a glitch for crossbows which cancels the reload time that can be done on all platforms including the Switch.
a great combination for clearing humanoid camps and caves ... I've forgotten to take off the cowl before returning to the city and it makes for an interesting challenge to escape (the agro wont drop taking off the cowl once the guards have decided to attack) I like to try to escape instead of reloading the latest quicksave ;)
Fun fact: In TES3 Morrowind, the enchantments for this bow AND the Ring of Khajiit are EDIT: ALMOST identical, in wording and effect. Probably best bow in TES3 too, btw.
Damn my stupid eyes, the enchantment is NOT identical, but very close: TES3: Ring of Khajiit: Invisible 30 secs, + 10-20 pts Fortify Speed for 30 secs, Bow of Shadows: Invisible 30 secs + 20-30 pts Fortify Speed for 30 secs. See the diff? It's like the bow is a slightly stronger version of the ring. Apologies.
@@virn333 If you had the GOTY content (comes with GOG version) you could get all sorts of enchanted arrows and new fletcher shops that sold them. I liked the ones where you could just basically shoot an AOE spell at an enemy because even if you missed you'd still do damage.
Worth mentioning, the assassin’s journal says that he won’t attempt to kill the jarl while he’s dealing with dragons and the war. If you try to do this quest before dealing with Bleak falls Barrow and the first dragon (I.e with a new character), the assassin flat out will not be in Dragonsreach. I haven’t tested it, but presumably he will also be absent during part of the Civil War quest line as well Edit: As people have pointed out, certain points let the assassin appear and others prevent him. From my experience, the assassin did not appear while I was on the quest Before the Storm, but after completing it and starting Bleak Falls Barrow, the assassin appeared.
I killed him on a fresh playthrough, level 3. Used alt start to start in whiterun and went right to the steward. I earned the 3 levels on the way to and from silent moons, he spawns after you read his journal
I have been using it because I just had to make a stealth archer when I saw it! it is pretty OP if you also get the perk that lets you shoot 30% faster with the bows 20% speed it is just ridiculous how fast you can clear a room out when using the right perks and arrows
I've always been more of a warrior/spellsword build fan, but this bow + the grey cowl of Nocturnal + the elemental arrows from the cc made me wanna give the stealth archer a second chance. Needles to say I'm loving it. My character is a black furred khajiit nightingale, thieves guild master and basically the master of shadows
I used to make lists at school of what I needed to do, and maps of where I needed to go. It used to consume my mind all the time. Try breath of the wild, my gf showed me that game and it’s incredible.
when it says "weapon draw" it means when you nock the arrow and pull it back to full strength, as we saw in that video this new bow could fire off faster because of the draw, where as the fire speed is how fast the arrows fly
I think "weapon draw" actually refers to the weapon being drawn from your back. The wording of the enchantment indicates, that both effects are based on the same action. Which means the action that triggers the invisibility is also the action which is 20% faster. How fast your weapon attacks is based on its speed value. So what gives this bow its fast firing rate is its speed value of 0.9375 which is almost twice as high compared to other bows with a value of 0.5 At least thats how i recall things from my modding experience with Oblivion. The easiest way to confirm this would be by comparing two non-enchanted bows with different speed values.

@@Der_Waldmeister watch the video again the speed at which he nocks the arrow pulls and fires is faster, hence "weapon draw" it's not just taking it out. in archery the term "draw" means to pull the string to it's limit so weapon draw in this case means to get the arrow ready to fire
@@Nobody_Fn_Important The enchantment says "weapon draw" - not "bow string draw". We all know what "draw" means in archery terms. If this bow can be disenchanted and the enchantment can be placed on a melee weapon, then we must assume that it is referring to how quickly the weapon is readied to attack position. Obviously, swords don't have draw strings. That part of the enchantment would be pointless to anything other than a bow if what you're saying is true.
@@Nobody_Fn_Important I know that the whole firing animation is faster. My point was, that the reason for this is the higher speed value of the bow and not its enchantment. For example a sword with a speed value of 1.5 will also swing twice as fast as a sword with a speed value of 0.75
As a heads up to anyone trying to complete this quest: The Assassin will not spawn until you have triggered the first Dragon attack outside Whiterun. So if you're playing a non-Dragonborn with Alternate Start or haven't started that series of quests for whatever reason, you cannot get the bow. Pretty damn annoying, and I hope someone releases a mod to fix this sometime soon.
Hey man appreciate the information I'm playing a regular playthrough and already did like four or five main story missions when I talk to him he doesn't offer me the option to say that I don't understand how to start this mission I guess mine is glitched there's still no option for me to start that mission from him if anyone has any idea please help thank you I'm on pc
I've never done a stealth archer playthrough. One character ended up with 100 skill in everything except speech, but I didn't really combine sneak and archery (although revisiting that character to play the new content, I see why it's so powerful).
Just started playing Anniversary after not touching the old version for about 6 years. While I was ecstatic to wind up getting this bow, I feel like I got this wayyy too early in the game for how powerful this weapon seems. Literally upgraded in the same session from longbow, to hunting bow, to imperial bow, to this. I am shook. I guess for RP purposes, this will just be the making of my character's reputation as wielder of the BoS. Looking forward to seeing how this plays.
I'm currently playing a Druid that uses a bow. I typically use almost exclusively the Elemental Arrows, but the Bound Quiver is also great if you want basically an unlimited supply of Daedric Arrows.
Where do you get the bound quiver? Another way to get unlimited arrows is to go to solitude, find the guard practising archery. Then follow the archer. When they go inside to sleep. Pick pocket sleeping archer and replace his arrows with any arrow you want. The next day he will practice with your arrow. You can collect as many as you want.
I always have smithing perks upgraded so I usually just spec into glass or elven and make those. 1 Ingot, 1 firewood, 24 arrows. Otherwise, just make steel ones and horde others to use as a treat or for strong enemies

Dram is possibly my favourite elder scrolls character, I made a Skyrim build for him and used it for years, thanks to mods it's fairly simple to make an exact rendition of what Dram looks like. Now the bow of shadows is here that just completes character
I actually named my first skyrim character on special edition dram after him. Bow and umbra at my side along with a wide range of spells here I am years later and still play him once a month or so.
This video in particular was a little annoying because he had the main menu theme on repeat, so you're bombarded with his fast talking and a choir of screaming nords. Other than that it really is always a pleasure.
When I've gotten this bow i was SHOCKED as I didn't expect the assassin to be invisible, and it shoot two arrows into my mage character and killed me, was level 20 more or less and even after trying again and launching my strongest spell at his location he still gets one shot in dropping me to near death, you'd think with a bow as OP as that would be a boss battle in a dungeon.
I literally stumbled on this quest while looking for extra cash to buy a house and was flabbergasted at the great weapon drop at the end of it. My character was relatively low levels and the bow of shadows changed my whole early game experience. I was going for a paladin build but quickly became a sniper.
I was really excited by that enchantment, thinking that each time you fired drew the bow it made you invisible. But it’s only when you whip it out which is much less useful.
There’s an arrow velocity mechanic. It effects how far away a target can be to hit them. The Faster the draw the slower the arrow speed the higher up you have to aim at a far away target. Heavier bows have slower draw speed but greater arrow speed so less arrow drop at greater distances
I played through Skyrim for the first time a couple of weeks ago. And I picked up this bow very early on and I gotta say it carried me through the whole game. I still have it in my inventory.
This should've happened as soon as you launched it, but soon I will be drinking Thalmor Tears while wearing a Daedric Beanie, warming myself under the Camel Elder Scroll. Keep doing what you're doing, you're the best, and we'll always be here :)
if you’re using smithing and enchantment then try hunting bow it can be improved (smithing) by surprisingly high factor, it has very high speed (just as bow of shadows), it is much lighter than bow of shadows and it can be enchanted with chaotic damage (probably most powerful in the game) all this combines in one of the highest dps among all bows
I have never played a Stealth type build/character however with this Bow I have an idea for a build that makes it more OP. If Master Enchanter and Smith at minimum (though Master Alchemist would also be helpful). Anyway Craft some Dragonscale or Stalhrim Light Boots, enchant them with Muffle and Sneak. For your hands equip the best Dark Brotherhood Gauntlets/Gloves with their Archery/Backstab enchantment. For your head craft a Dragonscale or Stalhrim Light Helmet enchanted with Fortify Archery and Waterbreathing. For your armor craft a Dragonscale or Stalhrim Light Armor enchanted with Fortify Stamina and Fortify Health Regeneration. For your jewelry craft a ring enchanted with Fortify Archery and Fortify Stamina Regeneration. For a necklace either Saint Jiub's Locket or Gaulder Amulet. Of course have the Armor/Gear be max improved to Legendary+. If a Master Alchemist also use lots of Fortify Archery potions and powerful multi-effect poisons.
Do the entire stalhrim or dragon set just use the broken glitch for enchanting to get all the enchantments super high. If you don't know it look up ESO he will show you how to on his TH-cam channel
@@tonywilliams1617 I know the glitch and exploited it to an extent. However there is no way to get the Dark Brotherhood backstab enchantment to be applied to other gear that I know of so that's why for the theoretical Assassin/Stealth character I mixed the sets somewhat.
Bow of shadows is just amazing my favorite thing to do is go up to those npcs u know u can make attack u then whip it out disappear and dispatch of them something so satisfying about going up to them saying they’re ur next victim then turning invisible and unleashing waves of arrows especially the telekinesis arrows it’s so cool the amount of stunts u can pull off
I think the phrasing "weapon draw" means that it literally is drawn of your back faster. Only way to test is a timing test of drawing other bows from your back and comparing
For those of us replaying old saves or starting new character builds in celebration of the Anniversary Upgrade: get this bow and the Grey Cowl of Nocturnal as soon as possible, as their synergy is INSANE. Just having these items equipped will make any gang of fur-armored bandits dance in the palms of your hands as they drop like friggin flies. Albeit, you'll (most likely) find yourself taking somewhat-ugly headgear off in towns to avoid prosecution...but as an almighty clearer of camps and caves, the symbiosis of these two Nocturnal artifacts completely transforms the archer's approach to Skyrim, as you'll be able to speedily boost Sneak with a perpetual UAV overhead. I'm unashamed to admit that I'll be using these silly new toys to get as many Legendary resets on Sneak as possible
TIP: While clearing Champion's Rest, I discovered an easy way to blast unemerged Draugr out of their closed sarcophagai ... cast a PARALYSIS RUNE so that it partially overlaps it, and the detonation will eject em (paralyzed by the rune). Then just shoot or chop em before they can move.
I think the difference is that the BOS “draws” quicker, meaning that the player has a faster speed when pulling back the bowstring, and Auriels bow has a faster “firing” speed, meaning the arrow flies through the air faster once released. BOS has a faster draw, and Auriels bow has arrows that fly faster once released.
Mines bugged I think, it won’t turn me invisible anymore and now the 20% draw speed stays a while after I swap weapons so I can swing anything faster for a bit
zephyr is fire speed so the speed of projectile which makes it murder at range and moving targets, draw speed is them pulling the string back, basically less time between shots
Invisibility normally costs 100 magicka, which makes this bow absolutely insane for stamina based assassin/archer builds. Most other forms of invisibility can only be used once a day. But you can literally bind this bow to a hotkey and have free invisibility on demand with no cooldown. And then you can just have your dagger on the other hotkey, and it's free assassinations every time... All without ever needing to invest time into grinding illusion XP, or spending stat points on magicka. And you can pick a different Nightingale ability instead of the invisibility one.
I would love it if you would do a video on improving character run speed and how this can be applied most effectively (high wlc probably as they run faster than all other races). With the Creation Club and Anniversary combined we have the Bloodthirst blade which increases speed by 7%, Anniversary gives the Ring of Khajiit with 10% speed increase, and we have the Boots of Blinding Speed which increases speed by 100 points.
I really enjoyed this little quest. I stumbled across it after returning to the Jarl for my reward after taking down the dragon at the white run watchtower. (i didn;t progress any further with the main quest so it’s possible to get the bow without going any further with the main quest line). I wish it was available without needing to trigger the main quest dragon spawns.
So I really like this bow and have been using it in my new playthrough, however if you have enchanting leveled up I still think armor with sneak enchantments with a stalhrim bow with chaos damage and frost with smithing increasing the damage is still technically better. And just like the invisibility spell, as soon as you interact with something or shoot an arrow, your invisibility disappears. It's still awesome and I love the quicker draw speed, but I wouldn't consider it the "best", maybe the best stock non enchanted weapon 🤷♂️
I definitely agree. I do like that there are a lot of new, cool item in the game now, and that many of them could be considered top-tier, but man, I just love flipping everyone off and just making my own stuff XD (on a side note, am I the only one who takes the black star, and makes a second bow with the soul trap as the second enchantment for when my gear's charge is getting low?)
The only thing I don’t like about this bow is that it makes my arrow invisible as well, and I used to aim by looking at the arrow when I first started playing, so I actually had to learn to use the site in the middle of the screen to aim 😂
you can use the bow to straight up de aggro everyone as long as your crouched and pull out the bow they won’t see you (obv) but it’s so broken bc you can take a shot then immediately lose aggro
I picked this up while trying to clear out the ungodly number of side quests I'd accumulated while I was gathering the materials to craft my 800-ish gold rings so I could max my smithing. Let me just say this and those Soul Stealer Arrows is a match made in heaven. Sure, it turned my heavy armored battle mage into another sneak archer, but I have nearly unlimited black soul gems and max enchanting.
@@starmanda88 soul stealer arrows are one of the magic arrow types introduced in the Arcane Archer pack from the creation club, they basically act as dwarven arrows individually enchanted with soul trap, upon a lethal blow, has a chance to transform into a soul gem in the victim's inventory. This includes black soul gems. They can be bought from pretty much any general merchant after, I think, level 20, from the Drunken Huntsman in Whiterun or the Fletcher in Solitude. The recipe to make them can be found in Solstheim during the last high level challenge in Kagrumez. I believe they need dwarven arrows and soul gem fragments to create.
I just realised a not meta benefit of vampirism. Mages couldn't use detect life to find you. Just a cool rpg advantage when combined with their better stealth
Bow draw speed versus flight speed is easy. Draw speed means the bow is ready to launch another arrow faster. While flight speed simply means the arrow travels faster when fired.
Haven't tried it yet, but I intend to combine this with the telekinesis arrows, and the ordinator skill perks, (one of the later perks gives +12% fire rate per hit for 15 seconds and it stacks, a volley of the telekinesis arrows should in theory crank the firerate to minigun level, can't wait to try it
Honestly I would argue it is overpowered early game but late game sneak archer you already have invisibility and can get MUCH higher burst damage from cross bows or even dragon bone bows...with its own enchantments...soooo idk about it being the best but alright
Mine too, the bow is very buggy. Sometimes it works for a couple of days, then stops for some days, then works again. I'm on a vanilla playthrough right now, no mods loaded. Sadly, as for now I haven't found a fix yet...
I saw this video and find it funny that I already had this bow , it's in a chest in one of my houses since I didn't find it to be all that great compared to my self enchanted Elvin bow I had when I did that quest . Now the character I started is level 53 and the crafting lines are all maxed out so I'm using a self enchanted dragon bone bow now but I will dig that Bow of Shadows out and see how it compares now (once I upgrade it of course) . Something new to try (like I need more new things LOL ) .
I don't know if you'll see this comment, but as a console player, I can't really use mods until I get the achievements, as using mods disables them. So, unless the Unofficial patch team finds away around that, I probably will continue to not use it, unfortunately. Also, love the content and would you consider making a play though of the anniversary edition?
To play around with it, I used cheats to max out my Archery skill and I've been playing with every perk. This bow is amazing, even at a low level this bow is absolute fun. The Quick Draw perk makes the bow feel even faster, and having Ebony arrows so early in the game, since I imagine you can get this bow as early as soon as you get to Whiterun, you'll be a force to be reckoned with especially against dragons. As for builds and ideas, I fully agree with the assassin build, but I honestly believe this bow could make for an amazing bounty hunter Mandalorian like build maybe?? Something where you primarily use the bow, but you can use say the Ebony Blade or Mehrunes' Razor for when enemies get close. A good Shout I see this bow going well with is Drain Vitality. For standing stones, Thief and the Shadow I believe it's called, and with the Aethrium Crown from the Lost to the Ages quest, you can have both on at the same time. I will make a new game, give this a shot (no pun intended), and edit this comment when I've ironed this out a bit more. :) Half update: I was doing some more Anniversary edition quests and ended up fighting Spriggans. The bow, with all the Archery perks, ended up killing the Spriggans with a few shots using Iron arrows.
also he's very easy to kill him even at low level in legendary difficulty because the moment you attack him all the guards (and the jarl) join the fight so you can just sit back and enjoy the show XD
This is the ONE thing I wanted you to cover I’m hype. Of course I wanna see the rest of the creation club content but this was number one on my list 😭😭. I must have missed it but does it benefit from smithing perks?
I've relied heavily on this now on my playthrough... but it is BUGGED and eventually doesn't work properly. The invisibility becomes unpredictable, sometimes activating when equipping different items, activating or using things, and even quicksaving. Still a really good weapon but its biggest draw is unfortunately unreliable in longer playthroughs when it eventually bugs out (bugged in the same way for a friend too, so it's just a problem with the item sadly) .
I watched my girlfriend continously using the invisibility move, equipping and unequiping thirty times an hour. Needless to say it's bugged out after fifty hours, and now her save is "ruined" even though the bow shoots just fine. That invisibility is insanely powerful and a massive crutch to her potential of seeing the rest of the mechanics in the game. But nope, time to delete the save and reset
I got back into playing Skyrim and got this bow recently. It caused me to adjust my desire to play a pure mage to a mage archer. Hiwever, I notice the invisibility is pretty useless. Things still notice me. Maybe it's the sound of mocement giving me away, but I've noticed just about everything still detects me.
I use a crossbow for my first shot then arm the bow from my quick favorites and go invisible on my wounded prey. Then I find a good spot and hit them again....it is so unfair

you can literally backstab someone and equip the bow during the stab animation, going invisible almost instantly after becoming visible
The Khajiit that robbed Nocturnal just took advantage of game mechanics.

I killed him on a fresh playthrough, level 3. Used alt start to start in whiterun and went right to the steward. I earned the 3 levels on the way to and from silent moons, he spawns after you read his journal
I was able to do it no problem, level 3 or 4, haven't stepped foot in Bleakfalls.
I have been using it because I just had to make a stealth archer when I saw it! it is pretty OP if you also get the perk that lets you shoot 30% faster with the bows 20% speed it is just ridiculous how fast you can clear a room out when using the right perks and arrows

I've always been more of a warrior/spellsword build fan, but this bow + the grey cowl of Nocturnal + the elemental arrows from the cc made me wanna give the stealth archer a second chance. Needles to say I'm loving it. My character is a black furred khajiit nightingale, thieves guild master and basically the master of shadows

when it says "weapon draw" it means when you nock the arrow and pull it back to full strength, as we saw in that video this new bow could fire off faster because of the draw, where as the fire speed is how fast the arrows fly
I think "weapon draw" actually refers to the weapon being drawn from your back. The wording of the enchantment indicates, that both effects are based on the same action. Which means the action that triggers the invisibility is also the action which is 20% faster.
How fast your weapon attacks is based on its speed value. So what gives this bow its fast firing rate is its speed value of 0.9375 which is almost twice as high compared to other bows with a value of 0.5
At least thats how i recall things from my modding experience with Oblivion.
The easiest way to confirm this would be by comparing two non-enchanted bows with different speed values.

@@Der_Waldmeister watch the video again the speed at which he nocks the arrow pulls and fires is faster, hence "weapon draw" it's not just taking it out. in archery the term "draw" means to pull the string to it's limit so weapon draw in this case means to get the arrow ready to fire
@@Nobody_Fn_Important The enchantment says "weapon draw" - not "bow string draw". We all know what "draw" means in archery terms. If this bow can be disenchanted and the enchantment can be placed on a melee weapon, then we must assume that it is referring to how quickly the weapon is readied to attack position. Obviously, swords don't have draw strings. That part of the enchantment would be pointless to anything other than a bow if what you're saying is true.
@@Nobody_Fn_Important I know that the whole firing animation is faster. My point was, that the reason for this is the higher speed value of the bow and not its enchantment.
For example a sword with a speed value of 1.5 will also swing twice as fast as a sword with a speed value of 0.75
As a heads up to anyone trying to complete this quest: The Assassin will not spawn until you have triggered the first Dragon attack outside Whiterun. So if you're playing a non-Dragonborn with Alternate Start or haven't started that series of quests for whatever reason, you cannot get the bow. Pretty damn annoying, and I hope someone releases a mod to fix this sometime soon.

I like to have a sword in one hand and a spell in another personally. Sometimes a sword and shield is fun too.
I've never done a stealth archer playthrough. One character ended up with 100 skill in everything except speech, but I didn't really combine sneak and archery (although revisiting that character to play the new content, I see why it's so powerful).
I have played as warriors, spell-swords and fortify restoration builds more.
I have never played a Stealth Archer or any other Stealthy/Sneaky/Thief type character!

Just started playing Anniversary after not touching the old version for about 6 years. While I was ecstatic to wind up getting this bow, I feel like I got this wayyy too early in the game for how powerful this weapon seems. Literally upgraded in the same session from longbow, to hunting bow, to imperial bow, to this. I am shook. I guess for RP purposes, this will just be the making of my character's reputation as wielder of the BoS. Looking forward to seeing how this plays.
Yeah that's how most of the anni edition content is. It's all integrated lazily and just makes the game feel crappy and unbalanced
I'm currently playing a Druid that uses a bow. I typically use almost exclusively the Elemental Arrows, but the Bound Quiver is also great if you want basically an unlimited supply of Daedric Arrows.
Where do you get the bound quiver? Another way to get unlimited arrows is to go to solitude, find the guard practising archery. Then follow the archer. When they go inside to sleep. Pick pocket sleeping archer and replace his arrows with any arrow you want. The next day he will practice with your arrow. You can collect as many as you want.
I always have smithing perks upgraded so I usually just spec into glass or elven and make those. 1 Ingot, 1 firewood, 24 arrows. Otherwise, just make steel ones and horde others to use as a treat or for strong enemies

@@Killercoldice22 the mad men of the reach, spriggans, and certain witches covens very much are Druidesque. I’m sure he just uses anti undead restoration magic with the summon bear spell and iron flesh
Dram is possibly my favourite elder scrolls character, I made a Skyrim build for him and used it for years, thanks to mods it's fairly simple to make an exact rendition of what Dram looks like. Now the bow of shadows is here that just completes character
I actually named my first skyrim character on special edition dram after him. Bow and umbra at my side along with a wide range of spells here I am years later and still play him once a month or so.

This video in particular was a little annoying because he had the main menu theme on repeat, so you're bombarded with his fast talking and a choir of screaming nords. Other than that it really is always a pleasure.
When I've gotten this bow i was SHOCKED as I didn't expect the assassin to be invisible, and it shoot two arrows into my mage character and killed me, was level 20 more or less and even after trying again and launching my strongest spell at his location he still gets one shot in dropping me to near death, you'd think with a bow as OP as that would be a boss battle in a dungeon.
I literally stumbled on this quest while looking for extra cash to buy a house and was flabbergasted at the great weapon drop at the end of it. My character was relatively low levels and the bow of shadows changed my whole early game experience. I was going for a paladin build but quickly became a sniper.
All playthroughs become stealth archer eventually.
Just used this bow to cheese a boss I was too underleveled against. Worked like a charm once I'd told Lydia to wait somewhere. Thanks :)
This bow helped me with my thieves guild missions. Especially Calcemo's museum without getting detected by markarth guards
I was really excited by that enchantment, thinking that each time you fired drew the bow it made you invisible. But it’s only when you whip it out which is much less useful.
There’s an arrow velocity mechanic. It effects how far away a target can be to hit them. The Faster the draw the slower the arrow speed the higher up you have to aim at a far away target. Heavier bows have slower draw speed but greater arrow speed so less arrow drop at greater distances
I noticed that with this bow, your accuracy does suffer some with it.
I played through Skyrim for the first time a couple of weeks ago. And I picked up this bow very early on and I gotta say it carried me through the whole game. I still have it in my inventory.
This should've happened as soon as you launched it, but soon I will be drinking Thalmor Tears while wearing a Daedric Beanie, warming myself under the Camel Elder Scroll. Keep doing what you're doing, you're the best, and we'll always be here :)

Just started a playthrough as a Bosmer archer and immediately had to get this. Its so fun to use.
if you’re using smithing and enchantment then try hunting bow
it can be improved (smithing) by surprisingly high factor, it has very high speed (just as bow of shadows), it is much lighter than bow of shadows and it can be enchanted with chaotic damage (probably most powerful in the game)
all this combines in one of the highest dps among all bows
I have never played a Stealth type build/character however with this Bow I have an idea for a build that makes it more OP. If Master Enchanter and Smith at minimum (though Master Alchemist would also be helpful). Anyway Craft some Dragonscale or Stalhrim Light Boots, enchant them with Muffle and Sneak. For your hands equip the best Dark Brotherhood Gauntlets/Gloves with their Archery/Backstab enchantment. For your head craft a Dragonscale or Stalhrim Light Helmet enchanted with Fortify Archery and Waterbreathing. For your armor craft a Dragonscale or Stalhrim Light Armor enchanted with Fortify Stamina and Fortify Health Regeneration. For your jewelry craft a ring enchanted with Fortify Archery and Fortify Stamina Regeneration. For a necklace either Saint Jiub's Locket or Gaulder Amulet. Of course have the Armor/Gear be max improved to Legendary+. If a Master Alchemist also use lots of Fortify Archery potions and powerful multi-effect poisons.
Do the entire stalhrim or dragon set just use the broken glitch for enchanting to get all the enchantments super high. If you don't know it look up ESO he will show you how to on his TH-cam channel
@@tonywilliams1617 I know the glitch and exploited it to an extent. However there is no way to get the Dark Brotherhood backstab enchantment to be applied to other gear that I know of so that's why for the theoretical Assassin/Stealth character I mixed the sets somewhat.
The only downside of it being glitched or bugged aka not working as it should for many people . But it's a unique weapon

Bow of shadows is just amazing my favorite thing to do is go up to those npcs u know u can make attack u then whip it out disappear and dispatch of them something so satisfying about going up to them saying they’re ur next victim then turning invisible and unleashing waves of arrows especially the telekinesis arrows it’s so cool the amount of stunts u can pull off

I think the phrasing "weapon draw" means that it literally is drawn of your back faster. Only way to test is a timing test of drawing other bows from your back and comparing
For those of us replaying old saves or starting new character builds in celebration of the Anniversary Upgrade: get this bow and the Grey Cowl of Nocturnal as soon as possible, as their synergy is INSANE. Just having these items equipped will make any gang of fur-armored bandits dance in the palms of your hands as they drop like friggin flies. Albeit, you'll (most likely) find yourself taking somewhat-ugly headgear off in towns to avoid prosecution...but as an almighty clearer of camps and caves, the symbiosis of these two Nocturnal artifacts completely transforms the archer's approach to Skyrim, as you'll be able to speedily boost Sneak with a perpetual UAV overhead. I'm unashamed to admit that I'll be using these silly new toys to get as many Legendary resets on Sneak as possible
Note: if you side with Ulfric and the stormcloaks brill becomes the steward after you take whiterun, talk to him so you can start the quest

TIP: While clearing Champion's Rest, I discovered an easy way to blast unemerged Draugr out of their closed sarcophagai ... cast a PARALYSIS RUNE so that it partially overlaps it, and the detonation will eject em (paralyzed by the rune). Then just shoot or chop em before they can move.

I think the difference is that the BOS “draws” quicker, meaning that the player has a faster speed when pulling back the bowstring, and Auriels bow has a faster “firing” speed, meaning the arrow flies through the air faster once released. BOS has a faster draw, and Auriels bow has arrows that fly faster once released.

zephyr is fire speed so the speed of projectile which makes it murder at range and moving targets, draw speed is them pulling the string back, basically less time between shots
I love the bow, I'm using it in my own sorta Sam Fisher build.
Invisibility normally costs 100 magicka, which makes this bow absolutely insane for stamina based assassin/archer builds. Most other forms of invisibility can only be used once a day. But you can literally bind this bow to a hotkey and have free invisibility on demand with no cooldown. And then you can just have your dagger on the other hotkey, and it's free assassinations every time... All without ever needing to invest time into grinding illusion XP, or spending stat points on magicka. And you can pick a different Nightingale ability instead of the invisibility one.
I would love it if you would do a video on improving character run speed and how this can be applied most effectively (high wlc probably as they run faster than all other races). With the Creation Club and Anniversary combined we have the Bloodthirst blade which increases speed by 7%, Anniversary gives the Ring of Khajiit with 10% speed increase, and we have the Boots of Blinding Speed which increases speed by 100 points.
The Bow of Shadows + The Blackguard's Armor + Valdr's Lucky Dagger = a very OP combination
I really enjoyed this little quest. I stumbled across it after returning to the Jarl for my reward after taking down the dragon at the white run watchtower. (i didn;t progress any further with the main quest so it’s possible to get the bow without going any further with the main quest line). I wish it was available without needing to trigger the main quest dragon spawns.

So I really like this bow and have been using it in my new playthrough, however if you have enchanting leveled up I still think armor with sneak enchantments with a stalhrim bow with chaos damage and frost with smithing increasing the damage is still technically better.
And just like the invisibility spell, as soon as you interact with something or shoot an arrow, your invisibility disappears. It's still awesome and I love the quicker draw speed, but I wouldn't consider it the "best", maybe the best stock non enchanted weapon 🤷♂️
I definitely agree. I do like that there are a lot of new, cool item in the game now, and that many of them could be considered top-tier, but man, I just love flipping everyone off and just making my own stuff XD (on a side note, am I the only one who takes the black star, and makes a second bow with the soul trap as the second enchantment for when my gear's charge is getting low?)

The only thing I don’t like about this bow is that it makes my arrow invisible as well, and I used to aim by looking at the arrow when I first started playing, so I actually had to learn to use the site in the middle of the screen to aim 😂
you can use the bow to straight up de aggro everyone as long as your crouched and pull out the bow they won’t see you (obv) but it’s so broken bc you can take a shot then immediately lose aggro
I picked this up while trying to clear out the ungodly number of side quests I'd accumulated while I was gathering the materials to craft my 800-ish gold rings so I could max my smithing. Let me just say this and those Soul Stealer Arrows is a match made in heaven. Sure, it turned my heavy armored battle mage into another sneak archer, but I have nearly unlimited black soul gems and max enchanting.
What are soul stealer arrows and how do I get them?
@@starmanda88 soul stealer arrows are one of the magic arrow types introduced in the Arcane Archer pack from the creation club, they basically act as dwarven arrows individually enchanted with soul trap, upon a lethal blow, has a chance to transform into a soul gem in the victim's inventory. This includes black soul gems. They can be bought from pretty much any general merchant after, I think, level 20, from the Drunken Huntsman in Whiterun or the Fletcher in Solitude. The recipe to make them can be found in Solstheim during the last high level challenge in Kagrumez. I believe they need dwarven arrows and soul gem fragments to create.

I just realised a not meta benefit of vampirism. Mages couldn't use detect life to find you. Just a cool rpg advantage when combined with their better stealth

I like this bow in vanilla Skyrim so far, because it's literally the only bow Jenassa will fucking equip.
Bow draw speed versus flight speed is easy. Draw speed means the bow is ready to launch another arrow faster. While flight speed simply means the arrow travels faster when fired.
Haven't tried it yet, but I intend to combine this with the telekinesis arrows, and the ordinator skill perks, (one of the later perks gives +12% fire rate per hit for 15 seconds and it stacks, a volley of the telekinesis arrows should in theory crank the firerate to minigun level, can't wait to try it
Honestly I would argue it is overpowered early game but late game sneak archer you already have invisibility and can get MUCH higher burst damage from cross bows or even dragon bone bows...with its own enchantments...soooo idk about it being the best but alright

Mine too, the bow is very buggy. Sometimes it works for a couple of days, then stops for some days, then works again. I'm on a vanilla playthrough right now, no mods loaded. Sadly, as for now I haven't found a fix yet...

I saw this video and find it funny that I already had this bow , it's in a chest in one of my houses since I didn't find it to be all that great compared to my self enchanted Elvin bow I had when I did that quest . Now the character I started is level 53 and the crafting lines are all maxed out so I'm using a self enchanted dragon bone bow now but I will dig that Bow of Shadows out and see how it compares now (once I upgrade it of course) . Something new to try (like I need more new things LOL ) .
I don't know if you'll see this comment, but as a console player, I can't really use mods until I get the achievements, as using mods disables them. So, unless the Unofficial patch team finds away around that, I probably will continue to not use it, unfortunately. Also, love the content and would you consider making a play though of the anniversary edition?
To play around with it, I used cheats to max out my Archery skill and I've been playing with every perk. This bow is amazing, even at a low level this bow is absolute fun. The Quick Draw perk makes the bow feel even faster, and having Ebony arrows so early in the game, since I imagine you can get this bow as early as soon as you get to Whiterun, you'll be a force to be reckoned with especially against dragons.
As for builds and ideas, I fully agree with the assassin build, but I honestly believe this bow could make for an amazing bounty hunter Mandalorian like build maybe?? Something where you primarily use the bow, but you can use say the Ebony Blade or Mehrunes' Razor for when enemies get close. A good Shout I see this bow going well with is Drain Vitality. For standing stones, Thief and the Shadow I believe it's called, and with the Aethrium Crown from the Lost to the Ages quest, you can have both on at the same time.
I will make a new game, give this a shot (no pun intended), and edit this comment when I've ironed this out a bit more. :)
Half update: I was doing some more Anniversary edition quests and ended up fighting Spriggans. The bow, with all the Archery perks, ended up killing the Spriggans with a few shots using Iron arrows.

also he's very easy to kill him even at low level in legendary difficulty because the moment you attack him all the guards (and the jarl) join the fight so you can just sit back and enjoy the show XD

This is the ONE thing I wanted you to cover I’m hype. Of course I wanna see the rest of the creation club content but this was number one on my list 😭😭. I must have missed it but does it benefit from smithing perks?
I've relied heavily on this now on my playthrough... but it is BUGGED and eventually doesn't work properly. The invisibility becomes unpredictable, sometimes activating when equipping different items, activating or using things, and even quicksaving. Still a really good weapon but its biggest draw is unfortunately unreliable in longer playthroughs when it eventually bugs out (bugged in the same way for a friend too, so it's just a problem with the item sadly) .
I watched my girlfriend continously using the invisibility move, equipping and unequiping thirty times an hour.
Needless to say it's bugged out after fifty hours, and now her save is "ruined" even though the bow shoots just fine. That invisibility is insanely powerful and a massive crutch to her potential of seeing the rest of the mechanics in the game. But nope, time to delete the save and reset

I got back into playing Skyrim and got this bow recently. It caused me to adjust my desire to play a pure mage to a mage archer. Hiwever, I notice the invisibility is pretty useless. Things still notice me. Maybe it's the sound of mocement giving me away, but I've noticed just about everything still detects me.
My favorite is bound bow or enhanced cross bow. If you up your illusion you can silence your cast.
I use a crossbow for my first shot then arm the bow from my quick favorites and go invisible on my wounded prey. Then I find a good spot and hit them again....it is so unfair

The assasin is not sitting and he may be savouring the kill. And he may be waiting for some people at the table to leave. You have no idea how long he has been there when you arrive.

Draw speed means you can loose sooner, as opposed to arrow velocity.
