Stranger_in_black as a xperia phone user, I wouldn't might that my xperia phone are a bit more future proof, and not obsolete by time they're starting to sell the phones. not completing in every aspect are fine, but at least not lack behind too much (Sony mostly are catching up with last year's specs most of the time).

And it's about preference. Eventhough the S8 looks heavenly, I still love the look of the XZ.
gonigeena My S8 has an 18.5:9 1440p screen. I can't even see the pixels on my current screen so I doubt a 4k screen would be beneficial. not only that but I actually use the long screen because it's good for reading or browsing IG.

Sony have started a trend again with the super slow motion. They also started the trend in waterproof phones.
these phones are hardly splash proof- had z1, wasn't too bad as ports had a cap, same with z3. now on z5 and if i dare to use it outside when it is raining it goes haywire when ports get any water ingress whatsoever. smart connect thinks accessory is connected as water shorts the contacts and phone goes into a loop of connected/ unplugged until batter dies. piece of garbage. would it be so hard to have wireless charging and a flap to cover headphones jack, or should we feel privileged that our pride and joy has a jack that can also be used as water reservoir/ kettle?? since update to nougat battery life is shocking :(

I know, i know, it's just annoying as hell that they have a cheek to call something allegedly capable of handling water a flag ship, knowing full well that all you need to temporarily mess it up is a rain drop. maybe one day...

7t fPs Sony sticks to the same design because it is perfect. The edges on Samsung make video watching frustrating. Samsung changes the design because it knows it isn't perfect. Sony boasts a time less design. stereo speakers, bigger bezels help in better gaming and better protection from drops.

Metal gets dents and ugly scratches more easily, the plastic sides are much better in this case, i bet you won't even feel the difference

Not only that, the grip with plastic (nylon according to Sony Mobile) is significantly better. I think it's ridiculous for phones to have metal frames "just because" and be more slippery and drop prone as a result.

After the death of Nokia, I have been a Sammy fanboy for a while, I am currently using the s6 Edge. Had not wanted to buy a samsung since they removed the removable battery but decided to give them benefit of the doubt. I have used the shit out of this s.6 and for the most part it got the job done. I thought Sammy would do better with s7 but decided to release the same phone as s6, and market the shit out of it. And with this s8, they decided to force me to use those useless no function edge screen which makes my my holding a phone a gymnastic feat not mentioning making it more fragile. And that tiny speaker and poor audio quality is an insult in 2017 to sammy fanatics. A friend of mine had an old sony phone and boy when I tried it, it performed alsmot as my s6. So I decided to go to stores and test out the Sony phones. Boy I was impressed by the quality even of some of the middle rangers from sony. And with the Xperia xz premium, sony sealed the deal. Already pre-ordered one, just based on the impression I had from the ones I tested in store. But one thing that has made me dump sammy is Audio. For a guy like me who cares about the acoustic detail of music, sony didn't even have to try hard to win me over. Not mentioning they own most of the patents for audio tech. Sony phones ooze sweet sound, you could orgasm on it, literally. I realised all I have been missing. On the s6, I have to crank up the volume when plugged in my premium headsets, on Sony couldn't reach half volume before my ear drums wanted to burst. The audio impedence of sony mobiles is incredible. Had wanted to buy an LG v20 , the "multimedia monster" but LG decided we have small hands in Europe and doesn't sell big phones here. And they decide to sell us they G phones which look like unfinished students design projects. And that unique design of Sony phones is also good. I appreciate a good symmetrical design. Easy to hold and play a game. I prefer the curves on my girl not on my phone. But lets agree, we all hate the iPhones.

Charles Bukenya I had a Galaxy note 4 that quit after a year and half. I Google the problem and it's a $100 repair because there was a forum of thousands of people with the same complaint. a phone at that price point shouldn't die after a year and a half. Also a year and a half later My HTC 7 still works. Keep your samshit, I won't ever buy another one, glad you've moved on.

I am hoping its as good as you say it is because I just bought the EU version with finger reader for $50.00 usd. Because I wanted a smaller phone than my LG V60 ThinQ so I found this one and I am pretty sure I wont be disappointed
i remember way back when samsung was still making plastic phones, and sony was doing metal phones a long time ago, and people whould still prefer Samsung phones. society will allways find a way to "sheep themselves" i really thougt all sides were stainell steel, im not sure if it is or not and i dont really care. i find the link gsm gave us a bit weird, even more weird the anwser that is in there (it says the frame from nylon) after saying that the front and back are glass (surprise) just to seem more professional, and it does not refer to the fact that uper and bottom parts are metal (why say that) or maybe the entire phone is plastic (excuse me nylon) its not a convincing anwser and just because that person works somewhere in some sony studio it does not mean that person knows all about it, but we are geting into dark whaters and its just too dam stupid to be debating this. people like sony buy sony people who dont like sony buy something else. that simple..

Sony never left. Six months ago was just having a thorough search of the specific model. Didn't find it. So I went for the XA2 ultra. Didn't regret it. For now. And today I found XZ premium available for the same price as XA2 ultra was. 🙄😭🙁
I NEED bezels. Stop hyping tiny bezels, no only is it less durable but you can't get a decent screen protector that works on curved screens or bezeless one.
I am using xperia x compact. Really love it bcuz it look like xz premium. And before that i am using s6 edge which has horrible battery timing just a good design to show offf.
not sure about Xperia X compact but Xperia usually have low battery score.
sony's compact lineup always have amazing scores but not for normal lineups

Shannon dont ignore the fact... Sony never was good with battery. 72h Endurance rating? How did they score only 72h endurance rating with 10nm? that is just pathetic. Shannon, loving Sony is good but fanboys like you really kills Sony's innovation and staying with same boring design without any change for years.
More importantly is how that battery holds up after months of general use.
I'd take a 70h Endurance Rating phone that will remain the same after 2 years, than a 100h Endurance Rating phone that will have half the rating after some months or years of use.
Well, it wouldnt be my first choice (I'd go for the LG), but i have to say that my mother has the original Xperia Z since a few months after it came out, and the phone still works pretty well, and the battery holds up. Only about 3 weeks ago did it have it's first malfunction: the USB port gave in. But overall, very impressed by it's endurance.

Let me clarify a few things a lot of people are confused about:
The Xperia XZ and XZs have plastic frame and the back has a slab of Alkaleido metal, but the bottom of the back is also plastic.
"Polycarbonate" IS PLASTIC. Don't take my word for it, Google it and you'll see I'm right in about 10 seconds.
On the XZ and XZz, since the back is metal, they make the sides and bottom of the back plastic to allow radio signals to get through. Metal is not transparent to radio signal, which is why they need a window of plastic to get through. Note how even full metal phones like the iPhone or Oneplus 3 series have thin plastic lines going through them.
The XZ premium has a FULL METAL frame...because the back is GLASS, which is transparent to radio signals. Hence, Sony doesn't need the frame to be plastic to allow radio signals to get in and out of the phone.
Quick summary:
- XZ and XZs has a plastic frame (polycarbonate is plastic) and a mostly metal back.
- XZ premium has a metal frame and a glass back.
Fun fact - Of the 3 phones, the XZs camera is not flush, it has an ever so slight bump out of the phone. But don't worry, the premium's camera is flush.

Aha! Thank you for sharing. Upon more research, it seems that even reviewers around the web are confused about the material of the phone. I admit, it looks like I am wrong about the material of the frame of the XZ Premium. Nylon (a.k.a. plastic) it is!

I am writing this on this model. Its the best photo I've ever had. Got my contract in 2017, due an upgrade, the best my provider can offer is Sony Xperia 1IV which under direct comparison is only marginally better than this model. It only that I need more storage. Great model.
Yeah, Sony was too far ahead of its time. I'm still using the XZ Premium for media consumption because the screen looks way better than my new S22+.

Ok serious question, because everyone seems to think the Galaxy S8 is the best phone in the world right now... If they took away the infinity display what would really be different? They barely upgraded the camera, if at all, they fixed the UI but it'll still slow down after a couple months or so... The point is the phone hasn't really changed

The entire frame in XZpremium is actually all stainless steell.. the XZs apparently has polycarbonate sides (its not confirmed i think).. but polycarbonate is an amazing material as well, it just has a diferent feel to the touch, neither the XZs or the XZP are made of plastic in any way..
Polycarbonate is just a fancy way to say plastic. Make no mistake, "polycarbonate" IS PLASTIC. But hey, if you don't believe me, Google it. I assure you, polycarbonate is plastic.

gxcad Still very different. Polycarbonate is stronger, more rigid, and tough. Not to mention it feels nicer. Newer rifles from FN Herstal and H&K use high impact strength polycarbonates. So do newer Sea-Doo Sparks (which are light and feel agile) and my snow plow. Like saying an Audi is a Volkswagen. It's technically true, but there is so much more to it than that.
People asset plastic to be so bad.
What about plastics from Samsung? Why do people paid $1000 for them, but not $800 for a more durable plastic from Sony?

until now i still use my xperia arc s as a secondary phone and its working perfectly without any issue. and hopefully ill buy this phone when launch in my country.

I have followed you for a long time, and I have believed in what you said until I bought a sony ZL2 and my girl friend bought a samsung galaxy a5 2016, and do you believe? Although my phone it released in 2014 and have been used by many people and repaired for many times, but it still faster than the sammy phone which releases in 2016 and never repair before :D, and then, I decided not to trust you anymore ^_^. And you, do you feel shame when you do this? Just bring sammy up and drag sony down? :) the customer will decide what to choose and what they want to buy, you just let them make their choice, give you their opinion. That's the best you can do

An Đinh Its not only GSMArena, most reviews and score already showing XZP cant really compete with GS8 and HTC U11. Tell your gf to get a real galaxy. Beside XZP has horrible ISP problem, plastic sides and no quick charger included in the box. If Im buying $800 it better include free QC adopter.
Just see phone battle and you will see, and please :)) XZP hasn't released in some country yet. My friend has a galaxy s7 edge and it picture is terrible and pretty slow :V
want to buy it but ..the big negative is the thick bezels ..resulting in full size phone but short on screen ..will wait until released and check out hands on ....

I can also ask _how_ is the phone with better water and dust resistance a higher clocked Snapdragon 835 SoC, a larger battery, higher resolution HDR display, 960FPS camera with manual controls for standard shots, more features with regards to music playback, 2 speakers, the same 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and the 64GB maximum built-in storage with 256GB expansion limit worse than the Samsung Galaxy S8/+?
I will eventually finish my review and comparison of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Xperia Z3.
On the face of it there are things the Z3 does better than the S8 some of which are (remarkably) mentioned in this video.
VariantAEC Comparison reviews are out between GS8 and XZP. GS8 destroys XZP in bechmark, screen performance, and camera. Just check the comparison review.

This phone is very tempting (4k screen, snapdragon 835, interesting camera, IP68, 3.5mm audio), but does have a few big negatives:
1# Its a sony (a company who is well known for putting malware on your computer for just trying to play a music cd, and overall having horrible customer support)
2# The second sim slot is also the microsd slot.... Forcing you to either use it as a microsd or sim slot, not both.
3# Need to buy overseas to get the finger print reader version.
4# No wireless charging.
Why doesn't the fingerprint scanner not work in the US!?
Would love to get this phone when my current contract is up. But no major carriers in Canada currently have it, which sucks. :(

would anyone know if the speakers on this are louder than the z3v? I love my z3v and have had it for almost 3 years and deserve an upgrade. my only gripe with it is that the speakers suck.
