I'm from McAllen, " La Zavala". In the 60's and 70's as kids we went all over in bike packs with friends. If I'm not mistaken, this store is nearby the rail road tracks on Bicentennial in the Navarro neighborhood.
I left my hometown McAllen in 1989; but it has never left my heart.
Kudos to Ruben's grocery store; they had vision. I find stores like this one endearing. They are among the few mom and pop stores that have survived the onslaught of corporations.

Im a frequent customer and they really treat people like family . I'm Cuban and this is the only place in Texas where I can find everything I need to get our traditional Cuban products . Thank you Rubens for a great service to Latinos in the south Texas community .

I grew up in this neighborhood. We New Mr Ruben. we bought our meat for bbqs here, and grandma bought me cookies from here when I did my chores. So many memories we created in this store. It’s so good to see it open still. The colorful owner is an identical twin and they are all wonderful people.

naishla c yes girl it's the best there not just food there lots of exotic and cool looking medicine there and the prices are good nothing is really expensive except for that $1000 ham 😂

We lived a couple of blocks from Rubens. My elderly mother would do her grocery shopping there. The owner Ruben, Sr. would have one of his employees help her carry groceries to her house. They are a very kind, compassionate and good family. .
I was raised in Weslaco, Texas and my grandfather owned G.G.Robles Grocery. I remember being part of delivering groceries for patrons on a pickup truck.

I’ve been going to Ruben’s since I was 8, now I’m in my 30s and still shop there once in a while. I have to say the the service has been on a downward spiral, the cashiers are always in a bad mood and Ruben Jr only has time for his Puerto Rican friends, he doesn’t even say hi anymore to the people of the neighborhood that made that store what it is. Ruben Sr. was a better owner and knew how to service the neighborhood. Even though the store is just a couple of blocks away it’s where I go second if I don’t feel like making a trip to HEB. Rubencito please train your cashiers better, the new butchers are horrible, and stop kissing ass to your Puerto Rican friends, remember the neighborhood made that store what it is today.

I grew up in the Navarro !!! Omg love it!! Have not been there in over 30 years ! As I live in Florida now but , I remember this store , I am glad it is still around!!!!
Walking into Ruben's Grocery takes me back every single time to when I grew up going there in the 1970's. It is nice to know that the family's values have endured the test of time. Viva La Navarro. Viva Ruben's Grocery.

I grew up here and this was dads favorite shopping grocery store. There meat market is top notch. This was dads number one favorite store till he passed away
I come here all the time! Whenever I have an ingredient I can’t find anywhere, I know I’ll find it here. The owner is always around and always super helpful and friendly!

My mom and sister were born in McAllen and my dad in sinton Texas. Every year since I can remember going to McAllen as a kid and we would go visit my aunt's uncle's and all my cousins I wish I could go back to McAllen but my parents passed away a long time ago but I sure miss going to McAllen Texas

My dad's favorite store in the 80's , I used to live in mcallen . There were good grocery stores Mcallen grocery store , Ruben's grocery store , M Rivas grocery store plus the big stores Globe , HEB and Valley Mart , I still remember that song valley mart puts more in your little cart in Spanish Valley Mart pone mas en su carrito. Puro 956 si señor.

I love your Show and have been a client of Ruben’s for more than 40 years. Needless to say our families have been friends for justa or more years. I used to buy Jax beer as a teenager At Ruben’s , and I still go to Ruben now and he will always recommend an excellent bottle of wine. We love Ruben’s, by the way he is also one of the best Paella Chefs in Texas if not the whole US.

I had gone to that store when I was little. Fast forward 30 years I stumbled upon it again. It’s was so weird because it’s kinda hidden in the neighborhood.

Lived in Edinburg- McAllen area all my life and just heard of this store when my Argentinean brother-in-law moved here 8 years ago. That's the only place where he finds his Argentinean mate (tea)

I love Ruben's Grocery, best meat in town! You can find anything there. The Cavazos, Ruben's Grocery owners, are great people. I've known them for 40 years. They even sell cooked brisket, fresh and pre-cut for your receptions parties, it's delicious!!!👏👏👏❤❤❤

Mateo’s Place but you have Northgate Gonzalez Markets. You’re super lucky to have stores like that in California. I wish we had Northgate in the RGV to get our Mexican products and food.

If your a tea fanatic this store is the place for you, there is literally an entire section of the store dedicated to herbs and spices that can be used for herbal drinks and remedies. This place is my favorite store and carniceria. The store's diverse inventory gives it a unique smell you can't smell anywhere else. 10/10 recommend if you're ever nearby, you'll discover new foods you didn't even know existed.
Ruben's is a must when we go to McAllen. I get things I cannot get in my Midwest home.

I have worked there before a couple of times , like maybe 10 years ago. Ruben jr when is in the video he's a straight-up guy he is a nice person Anna and always does the right thing and try to treat people right that's why people keep on going back

I'm a California guy living in El Paso. I'll be in McAllen in August or September. I've never been there. This store looks really interesting. Like somewhere I'd find back home, in the Los Angeles area and outer suburbs.
I'd never think that you could find a place like that, in a smallish town, out in the middle of nowhere like McAllen. There's definitely nothing like it in Laredo. I'll definitely be checking this place out, when I'm in McAllen.

(Little Mex ) Im 35 years old i worked at that store in the meat Maket when i was 19yrs old.The store is located on 20th street you can actually see it from Bicentenial Blv. if your goin from Exp 83 towars Old 83 u can see it to your left.Interview was good ,but Ruben you always put God first not last.

Hi I grew up in mcallen.my brother name was ruben.we shop molina's grocery on 23.i was born there. arriba Alvarez elementary. Ruben molina . gilberto .yes V.T.c bus station.love it.
I worked there for about a couple of months. I lived in Weslaco, so I had to take the last bus home via Valley Transit Company. G.G. Robles in Weslaco had Fresh butcher meats just like Ruben's Grocery.

I grew up in the street right behind it. To all of us that know about it, it's hard to believe that some people haven't heard of it. But, I get it. If you're not from that area, there's no way you could know. The store is not on a main street. It's right in the middle of a neighborhood. It's in the corner of 20th and Gumwood. Stop by. You're going to be pleasantly surprised. They're all very friendly and provide excellent service.

This is not to be confused with the big groceries stores like HEB and Walmart that of course, are in McAllen. This is a place where you go to look for that special ingredient, food, drink meat no vary else carries. In that regards, Ruben's is a great choice. Many Chef's visit this place to get that special something will make their dishes stand out.

Best store ever I love rubens
What the fuk!! I used go to Rubens when I was like 12, haven't been there in like 20+ years. This video shows a very different Rubens than the one I last visited. And in a very good way. The variety of foods ( especially the ham and wine) convinced me to make a stop at Rubens on my next visit to the valley.
And btw, I found it hilarious that "La Navarro" was mentioned as the neighborhood. Back in my younger days La Navarro was synonymous with high crime and gang members actively causing mischief.

Dang... seems that he has more variety than Walmart, Spec's, a Pottery store, a pinata outlet, Home Depot, every country south of the border to include Europe in that little store. Just needs to add dental/medical services to complete the needs of the RGV.
