    Everyone: Russia, what is that?
    Russia: It is called... **reads writing on hand** ...Kugelpanzer! Some sort of Nazi weaponry...probably.
    Everyone: Where did you find it?
    Russia: . . . we do not know.
    Everyone: Well, what was it supposed to do?
    Russia: _That_ we know!
    Everyone: . . .
    Russia: . . .
    Everyone: . . . are you going to tell us?
    Russia: нет.
    Everyone: But you've had it for over eighty years!
    Russia: We do not share these documents. Is top secret.
    Everyone: ...can we take a sample for testing?
    Russia: нет.
    Everyone: . . .

    The praying mantis machine gun carrier would have been an excellent vehicle if recoilless rifles or anti-tank missiles had been around when it was designed

    • @matthewblackwood9653
      @matthewblackwood9653 ปีที่แล้ว

      The US was using recoilless rifles before they invented the Bazooka. So they very definitely existed already.

      It also probably would've been even more excellent if it actually looked like a praying mantis

    I've got one for you. The T28 super heavy tank. An American tank designed to take on the fortifications on the Seigfreid Line. This monster had a huge 105mm gun and ran on doubled tracks. How this thing was supposed to cross bridges or drive on narrow roads is anyone's guess. It never got past the prototype stage.

    • @thedinochromecommand
      @thedinochromecommand ปีที่แล้ว +3

      outer tracks were detachable for transport and bridge crossing. the outers were unpowered and used when the terrain permitted. but at a whopping 8km downhill there are better options.

    If you ever do a Mad Science Naval Ship special, you ought to look into the Torpedo Battleship concepts that the USN drafted up in 1912. They only exist as design studies. Not even full blueprints, just a spec sheet. But they are rather insane, especially for speed. One design calls for a 30+k ton monster capable of 30 knots!
    Mind you, the fastest ships in the world in 1912 were the ocean liner twins Lusitania and Mauretania, and they could only go at maybe 26 knots.

    • @seanbigay1042
      @seanbigay1042 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait ... was this thing supposed to carry torpedoes or be a single giant torpedo? Or maybe a ram ... and then they called the first one Thunder Child ...

    Can I add the not quite Mad Scientist tanks, but "we can make one better"... I give you the two American developments of the British Mark tanks, the Skeleton Tank and the Steam Tank... if memory serves the former survives and is on display at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, in Maryland. Essentially a metal cube box inside a pipework frame in the Rhomboid shape for the tracks.. the Later looked similar to a Mark V** (the stretched not tadpole tail), but was about 20% bigger all over, and used steam engines to drive. Stanley Motor company supplied engines and boilers. It also had a steam assisted flamethrower.

    That first tank fires its weapon Iraqi style.
    During World War Two, the united states Army had an armored recovery vehicle (a custom tractor/trailer, I think it came in a straight truck variant as well) well, the cabs of many newer armored US military trucks look like that recover vehicle from over 80 years ago.

    #5... might have worked (a bit, as a home defense machine as long as you didn't care about losing the crew almost immediately) with the crew in the vehicle and a remote sighting arrangement. The gun/raising assembly would have been lighter with more room for ammo. As built, totally nutty idea and a waste of resources. #4... yes...NUTS! #3... yes NUTS! #2... Well THIS was howitzer, field gun, machine gun, mortar bait if ever there was one. It could probably RUST faster than it could move! #1... I am sure that this is a universal "WTF"?
