    I too once owned a BSA - B44SS - but I don't think I'd ever mistake it for a Royal Enfield....or a Norton...or a Triumph 😊

Did I tell you that I was the driver of the Flying Scotsman, and that I had two Vincent black shadows, and was there for the first shot at Waterloo and home for the second.     In my dim & distant past, well over 30 years ago at least I owned a 1000cc Ironhead sportster. It was in bright orange & didn't say Harley on it anywhere, one night outside the Zebra in Cambridge which was a pub our bike club met at on Wednesday nights. A chap came walking past & asked me if it was a Tiger Cub ! I can't wait to see the big reveal ?

    Hi New to your channel it was recommended to me. It seems a lot of people are selling Enfields generally. All models which surprised me. Maybe its the economy forcing people to sell. So a buyers market right now..... especially come spring time. Looking forward to seeing your classic 650

    I am so glad you didn't quit your channel, the only thing l don't like about that interceptor picture is the rear shocks they just look out of place. Loved that story about the old boy, you can't catch me out triple engine in a triumph 😂

    Really funny story 🤣. Also had a old boy incident a couple of years ago , managed to drop my bike in slow moving traffic after getting it back up with help , a bit shaken and minor damage to bike this old boy walking by stopped and proceeded to tell me how he does not ride because motorbikes are dangerous after 10 mins or so his monologue was doing more damage than falling off , so I politely exited stage left thinking I hope I don't get like that.

    Looking forward for your make!! And 650 classic is coming for sure.. In 2024, sales numbers do not matter for RE as it was already their plan and think there will be many willing to buy as that will be the most comfortable 650 to ride and tour

    I have been working on turning mine into a more classic scrambler type from the beginning.Just wider Enduro bars ,Shinko 705 tires dropped the tubes down in the trees 3/8 inch and spaced the springs in the tubes.

    I can explain why bikes get brocken, it's because there is a profit to be made. I have even brocken brand new bikes when there was a deal to be done in buying them.
    Don't ever think that there is another reason to brake something, it's just about the margin to be made.

    Looks good, apart from the piggyback reservoirs on the rear shock absorbers. No bike had those in the sixties.

    Hi VB! Just saw your video on TH-cam. It's really interesting and looks like you and me are thinking along the same lines - based on the computer generated image of the 'Classic 650' that you have used to advertise your video!! When I came across this particular image a couple of months ago, I immediately downloaded it as I think it is just the DB's, and that's just how I would want a Classic 650 to look. As you say - it would not cost RE a lot of time or money to produce such a model based on the existing Interceptor model. The main changes that I see that would be required would be the addition of fully valanced chrome guards, classic looking black rear shocks, 60's style enclosed rear number plate housing, remodelled seat (not Hitchcock's £350 version - this just doesn't look right) and lower 'horizontal' exhausts ' silencers. However, the biggest issue in my opinion, would be the cutting off and relocation of the rear passenger footrest / exhaust bracket frame loops, to lower the foot-pegs and provide anchorage for the 'horizontally' affixed pipes. Something that would be time consuming but not insurmountable? Have you considered this issue and come up with a solution? Also, from your video - is it your intension to fit the Classic 350 front end to your interceptor (is this even possible?) as this I guess would enable you to have the fully valanced front guard instead of the stainless steel 'blade' guard currently available from Hitchcock's - which you could fit to a standard Interceptor front end? Anyway - I'm really curious to see in your following videos what you come up with, and I await these with anticipation! Good luck with the build!! Regards - John.

    I had a late 60s 650 basket case. This poor thing showed a list of past sins, most evident was that I needed 3 sets of tools to work on it. Metric, Whitworth, and the ultimate transgression, American Standard. The American Standard was a bitter sweet revelation, as I wasn't the only knuckle dragging caveman who would try to put a square peg in a round hole. Stay Strong, Will

    im pretty sure RE dont determine what they make by how many are sold in uk, they have a home market ofb1. 4 billion people, so i think we are small fish, look forward to seeing your bike

    The “How Many Left” website is a great asset but it’s only as good as the information presented to it. Based on other manufacturers it seems that dealers don’t always record the exact model names accurately on the paperwork they supply to the DVLA. Having said that the Royal Enfield data looks pretty consistent and the search facility, which can be a bit clunky, works well on Royal Enfield. Sometimes the figures on the website are two quarters behind but it is currently (Jan 24) showing Q3 2023 figures so that’s pretty good.
    You may well be right that there won’t be a Classic 650 but not for the reasons you said as I think the Classic 350 is selling well - 1755 bikes sold up to Q3 2023 and 644 in the first three quarters this year. This compares to 672 Super Meteor 650’s in the same period (I’m not sure if Q1 was a full quarter for this new model) and only 491 for the Interceptor 650. I suppose some people who might have bought an Interceptor in this period went for a Super Meteor instead. I haven’t checked all the Royal Enfield models but I’d be surprised if any out sold the 865 of the HNTR 350 in the first three quarters of 2023 🇬🇧

    If they do a classic 650 then it will just be a chrome shotgun with chrome fenders. Which is fine with me, i would be interested in one. Until then i am just probably going to slowly turn my interceptor into a classic interceptor. I am not going to use genuine parts, or anything like that, just making a custom that looks classic.

    I like your idea ,would it be a bit more accurate with another inch of fork tubes.Setting the geometry a bit less aggressive.Hopefully offsetting the rake which is a a few degrees too steep for tje best high speed stability.

      @deltabluesdavidraye The forks i am fitting are an inch shorter than the Interceptors, but I am using a 19 inch wheel instead of the standard 18 inch.

    good picture ;; great story --- those triple triumph twins with one cylinder are hard to pin down ;;;;;;; i think the reason for the re- born interceptor in it's guise as being quite bare and simple was to keep the intro price down ,,, as adding all the chrome and big mudguards e.t.c. would not bring the quick sales needed to launch a brand ;;; --- which means re got it right ,,, i think your build will be watched around the world - so if i can have your autograph now before security becomes too intense ;;;;;;;

    yes , maybe but as a manufacturer; same engine , same frame ( more or less) shocks forks all you are changing is shocks tank paint etc so it doesnt matter if if fails slap a new tank on a bit of paint and release it as a 650 flying flea the same core platform

    Splendid idea.. I almost turned my classic 350 in to a meteor... My bad back and neck where the main reasons for that. I cannot tolerate anything else then fully upright position .. So, I made a 'Clametor" hybrid 😁 I should bought the meteor in the first place but that look of the classic has no match. Congrats on the 'big' video, it doubled the subs too.

    Think the basic idea is great but it will still look like a modern Interceptor with the flat frame behind the tanks to the rear suspension.
    I think modern Enfield have really misused the old names. Meteor, Super Meteor, Constellation and Interceptor all belong to twins.
    Love seeing the old twins.
    Hope it works out.
    As for getting stopped by strange ppl, I use the only French sentence I know. "I don't understand, do you speak French". There is a less than 1% chance of meeting someone in UK that does.😂à

    Really enjoyed the video, brilliant story, I have a few like that, one of my favourites was the time a little old guy was looking at my Interceptor in the supermarket car park, he was waiting to see if the owner was around.
    He asked me if I'd restored it myself or bought it like that.
    Told him I'd bought it like that, I didn't have the heart to tell him it was a new bike.
    He spent ages looking at the bike but didn't notice the modern number plate bless him.

He was super proud of that bike. after a short time a feller was looking all round it and saying how stunning it was, Then ruined my brothers day by asking him if he was in the Honda Goldwing owners club!!!

    This is why I`m looking forward to the reveal VB, if you can pull this off you will have the best looking Interceptor and yes, it is what R.E. should have done in the first place. I always liked the Interceptor....except for that exhaust system. Your straight pipes and the "rounded" headers are a much pleasing look, and that`s coming from a bloke who actually prefers the look of angled tailpipes, just don`t look right on that bike. TEC parts 2into2 pipes look good `cos the end can is not so huge, but your style of pipes make for a much classier "classic" look, can`t wait to see, and hear it. Good old boy story too!

      @martinowl The figures are direct from DVLA registrations and are completely accurate. you can't buy any vehicle new without it being registered by the dealer. Taxed or sorned, covers them all!

    you are focusing on sales in England but Asia is where enfields sell the most I think they will release the 650 classic

    On the numbers of Classic 350s, I wonder if the mucking about in changing the importer had anything to do with the surprisingly low sales volumes. Also, there are big patches of the country with no, or very few dealers. I live in Northumberland and until pretty much last autumn, we had only had a dealer in Dumfries and Galloway, or North Yorkshire. THere is now a dealer in Gateshead, but when I went there about September, I think I knew more about the Classic 350 than the young salesman did and they had no demo bikes for road tests and only one each of the Hunter and the Classic, but only to look at or buy. The attraction of sales in the UK for RE India is probably never volume sales, but very heavily marked up prices. The sale price of the Classic 350 here is pretty much more than twice the cost of one in India. Somewhere in the supply chain there are good profits.

    Well, I'm 58. New to the biking life. Passed my test last April. Bought a Classic 350 signals. Desert Sand. Truely love it! Anyway, what you said about the sales figures was a surprise. And yet, not so. Like yourself, part of me thought they are selling like hotcakes. worldwide, they are. However, then I remembered that I've wondered why I hardly see any on the road. I live near Durham so I figured that maybe most of the sales are down south. I've only seen 3 classics, 2 interceptors, and one continental G T in the last 18 months. I know India is there main customer base. Still, it was a bit of an eye opener! The bullet I think is mainly for the domestic market. Waste of time I reckon. Personally, I think they should have made the classic a 500cc and called it the bullet. Maybe they'll bring out one yet. The Shotgun looks cool but another 650 seems pointless. Anyway, really enjoyed your video and I look forward to seeing your interceptor reborn. 😂 Cheers mate! Jez.

    Looks like it's going to be a good looking bike. As far as better things to do, it's 26F and blowing snow here in Heath Ohio US. I did get a ride in 3 days ago when it was 43F. Probably the last 55 miles the bike will take until February by the way the weather forecast is showing. I'm still wondering how long that battery is going to last. It is a 22, but I only had one time it acted low enough to reset the clocks. Stay warm. 😎

    As for the 350cc engine capacity, instead of dropping the 500 they should have produced a 650 single, something worth riding. I live in Australia, a place with vast distances, so a 350 or even 650 just won't cut it. I have a 865 T100 and that only scrapes in on the distance commuting stakes. The only bike l own, for long distances is something with reasonable lazy torque, and that's why my R1150GS is required if l don't want to arrive completely nackered at the end of the journey.

    Hey mate I am in my 60s live NZ got on board with the 400cc scene, but own a 1987 gb 400 Honda that am about get a grands worth of of work on it to get a WOF. The point is I like hunter but really already have a 400cc bike with a fixed fairing and kick start so why upgrade to a bike of less spec at triple the price? This could be the cause of low RE sales.

      @r0hon I don't know about NZ but over here in Blighty the RE's are a good bit cheaper than anything that's in competition with them! My opinion is they really are great value for the price!

    Best of luck with your build Mr Brown , I have thought many times that a 650 Classic would be a great bike , the present 650s just don't float my boat . I would love to see RE produce one and call it the the Constellation . Red and Chrome = marvelous .
    I think I met the same old boy , in fact I've met him in several places . He definately had a 600cc Triumph Goldenfire Atlas , went everywhere on it and concieved two children on the pillion seat . Those were the days , did he tell you about the time that Monty called him over for advice about how to defeat Rommel ? Good job he did though eh ? [ Or we'd all be riding BMWs and speaking German ] .

      @dungspreader That's him! Yeah! He left before he could tell me about his Vincent Red Hunter with factory fitted twin front disks that could stop on a sixpence at 170mph on wet grass. He didn't get chance either to tell me about the Wawer and how he met up with Alan Hitler in a pub, right opposite Canterbury Cathedral in Birmingham!

      @@Volcanicbrown1878 . My grandad and uncle were driving their cattle lorry through Coventry one night during the war. The police pulled them over and told them to park up for the night . After the coppers left my grandad said sod this I'm driving home . That was the night Coventry was bombed and the cathedral destroyed.

    Classic 650 is under road test in India as we speak....there's been several sightings over the last few months...and the spy photos indicate that the design is almost finalised...as per the grapevine, it will be launched by October or November 2024..

      ​@@domster200Not a bonus as far as I am concerned Spokes are better for off-road as they are actually stronger and give some much needed flexibility during impact.

    A RE 650 twin wouldn't be a Classic. They will bring out a Classic 500 single. That picture looks like a BSA, look forward to the big reveal.

    It would be nice to see a Classic 650 follow much of the standard of finish and styling cues of the Classic 350. Such as the headlamp nacelle with a peak, and an optional single seat.

      Hahahaha 😂😂🤣 the ugly cast headlight brackets.I got rid of them on my Interceptor & replaced them with the flash Twinton hinge type headlight bracket that a meaty & really suit the bike.I customized my Interceptor & put small TEC blaze indicators on it to make it look more like original Interceptor which had no indicators.Suede seat & I painted the logo black on engine casings in the first week of ownership😂.Enfield Precision bits & pieces,S&S slip on's which look great made great sound fantastic.
      If I recommend one upgrade to set it apart from the rest it's the Twinton hinge type headlight bracket.I got a video with them on from about 18-24months ago.I did have to use 10mm spacers to get it aligned but looked fantastic.

      @@Volcanicbrown1878 Nice & meaty brackets & hinge type too.
      I got a TEC Look LED Lighting kit but the headlight brackets were piddly & not what I was looking for so splashed out & got the Twinton hinge type headlight brackets.I would always get compliments from other RE guys about them.

      @bigred8438 You can get the 865 big bore kit for them but what's the point? Add the cost of the kit to the cost of the bike and for the same money you can get a T100 and it's all been done for you!

      This is a big part of the problem with what we used to call large bikes when I was young, now they are just too small to lug us and our stuff around with out having a frenetic un-relaxed ride experience, changing up and down gears etc to get the best out of them. At a minimum 900cc would be the limit. I don't know what to do with my old A65 now. @@Volcanicbrown1878

    Given Royal Enfield’s total production, the numbers you mentioned can’t possibly be right. And the thumbnail of the interceptor/classic looks good, but needs a headlight nacelle. Not brackets.

      @critterIMHO The figures are correct! They are from the DVLA direct and they cover the bikes that are taxed or sorned and that covers all of them. add the figures together and you have the total bike numbers since launch. Regardless of what the factory output is, that is the number sold in the UK.
