      Yes liquid bread in Austria they say 1 beer equals 2 buns of bread . In fact in Germany it's considered to be part of the food group and is not taxed .

    Beer saved my life many times.
    Beer made me who I am today.
    Beer both help me by providing my employment as bartender while in college as well as helping girls think I was handsome at certain critical points of time during my education. It also helped me stay married when a divorce would have been very bad for me in terms of economics and
    family life.

    Something that pisses me off a bit is that it skips history A LOT AND LEAVES OUT VERY IMPORTANT HISTORY! It doesn't mention anything about northern Europe and how wine was introduced with the Romans, while the average Germanic tribesmen drank beer the Romans drank wine

    To answer your question, I would imagine it was probably introduced probably in the middle of the 14th to the 15th centuries.

    We forget in our modern world that drinking water is more important than food. One can go longer without food than water. We can go right over and turn on the water, but in ancient times you could not go down to a river or lake and drink the water, you would get sick from bacteria/parasites (clean water was harder to find than food).

    But if you made it into beer, wine, mead, cider, sake (rice wine which is actually made with a beer like brewing process, like barley wine) you can have clean/safe drinking water.
    The Romans like most Asians often mixed the wine/sake (average abv 13%) with water.

    I thought the same thing. I think the problem with this is the title "How Beer Saved the WORLD," when the content is very European and United States-centric. However, I do like this documentary. I feel like grabbing a pint after watching it :)

      I agree. The makers of this documentary overlook the fact that the water in the streams at the time of the discovery of America by Europeans was drinkable due to the fact that the natives were hunter gatherers and not farmers. Beer didn't save the world, it changed it.
