What a lovely interview. Evan always seems like such a kind person who is equally as knowledgeable. After hearing his journey through Hasbro from college to now, we are so fortunate that he is one of the people working on the hobby we love :)
This was such a great podcast/interview. I can't remember the last time I hung on every word. Thank you. It makes me super excited for the future toys with Evan and Mark there.
evan is always my favourite person in the reveal streams and it was great hearing him in a more relaxed long form setting, really glad people like him are working on the brand, its all been so good lately
Thanks for posting this! I’m trying to avoid reading between the lines too much…kinda hard, though. Evan and Mark are both exactly the kinds of people you want working on this kind of stuff. The passion shines all the way through to the products. And it sounds like we have a lot to look forward to. AND, I didn’t know Evan came from Cincinnati. I’ve lived in Cincinnati my entire life…currently living just a few miles from where the old Kenner offices were. Small world…

Great interview with Evan. He seems like such a nice guy, totally down to earth and as big a TF nerd... er, fan, I mean, as the rest of us. It's always cool to hear some of the little tidbits from behind the scenes too.
Evan is a great guy and I'm happy he's on the Hasbro Transformers team. I work in mechanical design but not on toys, unfortunately. Because I work with CAD and have some experience with designing molded plastic parts I am super interested in the behind the scenes processes that happen from initial concept all the way to mass production at the factory and everything in-between. Hasbro has done a fantastic job of sharing some of that design process with the fans and I think there's been a lot of interest in that. What I think many people would be interested in is to expand on that even more and share some of the process at Takara Tomy. For example, I'm pretty sure the lead Takara designers that we often hear about mostly do the initial sketches and planning joint placement and transformation. They may be involved with the initial block models used for transformation testing. But my guess is that they have quite a few CAD designers that are working on the details of all the parts. The greebling and sculpt details. They most likely interface with the tool design people in the factories as well. I'm also interested in what happens to the molds. For example there are rumours that Takara no longer have access to some of the MP molds and that's why they have not done any reissues in a while. That would all make for a pretty interesting future podcast in my opinion.
Yellow G2 Devastator (Which I have opened and closed) was the initial release in 93. Orange was at some point later, which I also observed at KayBee Toys.
Oh, I loved this! It’s always good for us, The fans, to hear a little bit about what happens on the inside as far as development, the creation process and new ideas. Hoping to see more interviews like this soon. 👍🏼
Evan is a great designer, sounds like a lovely person too! About the SS BB Movie I hope they realize a OP Concept art too, OP is the only one no have a Cybertronian mode!
Always fun to hear behind the scenes talk about what goes on in these places you never considered might happen, or more about the process of general toy making and marketing.
I hope they make SS86 Megatron a unique tank at least. They keep making him an ordinary tank, like he's just some Decepticon goon or minion. Megatron should be a Tank Destroyer, like an Earth version of his Fall of Cybertron design.
AMAZING INTERVIEW. Hearing Evan talk about his love for some of the more esoteric figures (He namechecked Thunderclash, he fawned over the late G1 European release Overlord) and his hopes for working some of them into the line…..I was so hoping he’d throw out Leozack / Liokaiser’s name. The design’s look so amazing onscreen, but the few 3rd party releases each have their problems (built quality with TFC and scale with Iron Factory), as does the combiner wars version (outdated engineering and design.) Sounds like the pipeline is set for a few years out so a generations version looks to be a distant prospect….
I appreciate Sixo asking about movie verse and like bayverse games who is something WAY outside the norm on the pod and their own casters tastes I dream of a world where 86 hotrod and a new studio series 09Breakaway can shake hands
I felt it was important to ask specifically bc I know a lot of folks are curious and really care about that area of the brand, so glad it was noted :) ~ Sixo
Is it possible for Hasbro to start putting in ab crunch in to their figures? 86 Optimus really could've used that lol. That to me was the only thing missing.
Great interview, love the long form conversation. Hate to break it to you though, my kids absolutely love toy guns and I am starting them on actual shooting at age 10. Let's not pretend this is some kind of "progress", it's just a choice you made, and things are different in the UK than in other parts of the world. I'm quite happy that my kids can engage in this sport.
