Really shows how disappointed and crushed Roboute still is that his brothers betrayed the imperium and turned into monsters

Guiliman actually looked at the Primarchs like they were his family. He actually cared about them and respected them. They know not what they lost when they betrayed him.

Lorgar, in particular, embodies this. Seeing the pain and hatred in Roboute's eyes after the betrayal at Calth shows to Lorgar that his brother never truly resented him as he assumed and that he threw away a genuine attempt at reconciliation between them over what happened at Monarchia.

Most betrayed was Dorn, so deep was his adorarion for Horus, Sanguinius and His Father, that upon his arrival in support of The emperor against Horus, all he could see before him was despairing. Two brothers dead and his father who was once thought immortal now bleeds in front of him.

"I saw my brothers, many of whom I loved, all of whom I respected, turn their backs upon our creator and plunge the galaxy into war. I saw humanity reach for one golden moment of peace, brush it with its fingers, and then I saw you and the others spit upon it and tear it away. I died at the hands of my kin. I awoke to a galaxy so far from the glorious enlightenment of the Emperor it resembles the Catheric hell. You turned your back on all you claimed to stand for, cravenly, without a second thought. Where was my brother who could weather any storm, whose body shrugged off poison, who would never, ever give in? What happened to him? The Mortarion of old would never have allowed this. He would have died with honor. You must have seen, as your warriors were transformed into these hulking monsters, what awaited you should you say yes to salvation. You who called yourself the strongest of us, the redoubtable, the master of any pain or sorrow! How hollow those words seem to me now."
This quote in particular really makes me understand why Warhammer 40,000 is truly Grim-Dark.
To know that humanity was so close to a golden age of peace, where we would have ruled and thrived as the indisputable rulers of the galaxy, one that would have lasted an eternity under the Emperor's guidance.
To know we will never again rise as a species and that our best days are behind us, not in front.
To know, above all things, that it was done to us by members of our own species. To have it all ruined beyond repair, even with Guiliman's return.
That is the true sorrow of this Grim-Dark universe.
To know we held paradise in our grasp...
And it slipped from our fingers...

@@cosuinofdeath humanity was dying in isolated pockets, extinction was simply a matter of time. If it wasn’t the Necron rising again it would’ve been the Orks or the dark Eldar bleeding humanity dry. The unification war and Grand crusade was one last chance to save mankind. If it wasn’t for the Heresy everything would’ve worked. In fact if Big E had simply taken Magnus with him to Terra to help with the webway portal the heresy likely would’ve been defeated before it even reached Terra. Imagine no webway breach to keep the Emperor and the custodies effectively out of the war and Magnus on the side of the Loyalists. Imagine the emperor and the Ten Thousand acting basically as a Primarch hunting squad. Even the devastation of the Heresy could’ve been repaired if the Emperor was able to remain active in the galaxy. Even if the emperor was still fatally wounded by Horus and kept alive on the Golden Throne it would’ve meant Malcador wouldn’t have needed to sacrifice himself and could’ve led the imperium in the aftermath.

You can really feel their emotions, especially Guiliman's loss and regret. He has to pick up all the pieces of a shattered dream they worked for, and his own brothers stand against him. For now, he is alone. He may command endless legions, but that kind of power doesn't leave much room for friends and family, if you still have them. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

Mortarions desperate denial of everything that’s happened to him is really sad when you think about it. He used to be unwavering in his ideals, but slowly let his bitterness toward the Emperor wear away at him until he was a spiteful shell of his former self. Now Nurgles claimed him, he has to live for eternity with his mistakes and the only way he can cope with becoming the monster that he is is to perceive reality with a senile lens of denial, claiming he serves the people he butchers and infects and twists his failures into strengths.

To be fair, I genuinely believe Big E never really loved the primarchs like he says at the end. I feel like he might’ve had some feelings for Horus, and probably for the hawk boy since he was about as close as the emperor was ever going to get to a Primark he got to raise himself as a perfect paragon of the new man. But the rest of them?

Magnus, Horus, Mortarion and Fulgrim are sad victims of chaos. They did not turn to its worship of their own decision but by unfortunate circumstances. Horus wounded and healed by chaso cultists, Fulgrim corrupted by the Lair blade, Mortarion driven to desperate plea for help in the warp, Magnus pushed off the edge by Russ who was mislead by then corrupted Warmaster to kill Magnus instead of capture. What I see is family torn asunder, bonds of rivalry and comradeship turned to that of virtue and villainy, light and dark.

    • @dustyboi8975
      @dustyboi8975 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Nope, that makes no sense. He’s referring to the Emperor’s true form and how it reveals that he was never human. That he deceived the Primarchs into thinking they were a family when they were just tools.
Guilliman already knows about the lost primarchs. All of the remaining primarchs obviously know about the lost ones; it’s not a secret kept from them. The remaining primarchs were just forbidden to speak of the lost prinsrchs directly ever again.
Look up the short story “the last council” to see how seriously this order of not talking about the lost primarchs was taken.
They also didn’t rebel against the emperor; we don’t know what they did. Some think that the second primarch simply died in battle fairly early in the Great Crusade and this was seen as a shameful failure. I personally subscribe to that theory.

I pity Mortarion and others, who choose damnation. 10k years later, and they see not the chains they coiled around their own necks
They claim to be free, slaves of the emperor no more, while forever bound to their deamons
At least Emperor was honest. He could not show love as they needed - true. He failed to be a Father for them - also true. But he is better a 1000 times, than the masters they serve now... And in the The Board is Set, we see he cares about his sons, all of them! Even those who wish death opon him

Whether or not the emperor loved his sons is debatable but mortarion argument here is very weak for one it assume that being a loving Parent always equals to a fair and moral individual Second mortarion also believes that the emperor only did the things did in order to achieve apotheosis and the only thing he has to back this up is on the word of demons who (to no one shock) are not the most reliable sources of information.
As for the emperor being honest the guy made the imperial truth or the imperial lie if we are being truly honest here he didn’t tell his primarchs about the true nature of chaos not even maguns the red who would been the key to mankind not having to use the warp anymore to achieve faster then light travel had he been told about chaos and big E webway project or at the very least would have stayed loyal hell I would even go far as to say if the emperor told the truth at least to his primarchs most of them as well would stayed loyal.
In short the emperor is only honest when it ideal unfortunately his idea of ideal tends to bite him and by extension humanity in the ass

I might be wrong with my thoughts - but I do belive , he loved them . In the Book , The Board is set , he talks with Malcador in private . He said ,, My sons were kidnapped from me , twisted and filled with propaganda aginst humanity , lied and used by monsters which haunt us into oblivion .
