Hi. Are you the guy behind Lumines pages on tcrf? I had no way of contacting you so I’m writing you here. I’m modder and I started working with lumines but I have encountered a problem named “.dat file”. I have no idea how to extract textures and sounds out of those files but I have found your pages about lumines hidden content. What software you used to extract them from .dat files? And is it possible to edit them and put back in the game? I will be very grateful if you could answer.
when it comes to .dat filesthe thing seems to be different when it comes to the games in the japanese release of lumines, the files inside the .dat are uncompressed - one can extract them easily using a hex editor starting from the american release, however, some of the files, mostly menu-based, are compressed with a currently unknown (to me) compression in lumines ii, however, entered a compression method that would also apply to lumines live and lumines puzzle fusion pc, with really minor differences lumines supernova's files are uncompressed - i only needed to convert them to a proper audio/graphics format i know how the lumines ii compression works, but not how to properly decompress them without failure this compression does not apply to either audio or video, only graphics and text and no, i do not know how to change the files (save for lumines puzzle fusion pc, which i only needed to change some of the file names and internal structuring
TiKAL they can be changed. The textures are gim files and there is a converter for them called gimconv. It’s a command line program that can convert gim files png and back. That’s all I know. Don’t know about 2db files though. They said to be opened with cadwork but I don’t have such soft and it looks like it can’t be downloaded for free. Why do they have to make things so complicated for a game so simple in terms of gameplay 😅

the textures are gim files but in lumines ii they are compressed, they can't be edited properly
2db stuff is most likely related to animation
TiKAL that means it’s a dead end? Damn. At least I have found a way around movie files. Thanks much for the info)
