Yep it does I but I understand one thing the silver side of the cd should face the empty space in any direction that's my solution and it's working fine for me. Now my biggest problem is that power on/off button and cd ejected button I can assure you I never memories that I always get confused with it if I want the disk I turn of the ps5 if I want to turn it on I ejected it I turned it off its an infinite cycle for me really.
@2Nelly4 Yeah, I've done that a few times, it's really hard to see the black on black buttons, plus being glossy makes them blend in more 😅 so now I just slide my finger from the top/right until I feel the button because I know the disc eject button is the top one. 👍
I inserted my black ops III disc wrong on my first day. Luckily, I waited for it to say Disc is unreadable. Then, I reversed it, and the disc worked. Thank goodness I was patient.
I never even considered this could be a problem. I set my console up horizontally instead of standing it vertically on its side so it was always obvious what side was the top and bottom of the console and disc drive.
I understand why People made this mistake,it’s because the Disc part is usually on top or the middle on previous PlayStation but the PS5 is designed at the bottom which can be confusing plus most People probably had their PS5 upside down 😂 and it could be confusing sideways
I would have 100% made this mistake by assumption. Since the disc reader part is the smaller surface, it seems like that would be on top of the PS5, not below it. Mine stands vertically, but even then it seems odd to place a disc into the console with the surface facing towards the console. Sony really fucked up on this design. It's trivial, but you would not make the connection going from their previous consoles to the PS5 without the manual or a video like this.
@@TheStraightestWhitest imo its a massive design flaw. Just reading comments here its obvious that a solid 80% or more people did this just by nature because for the past however many years discs have been the standard the disc always faces the chunky side of the console or device, this is my first time seeing a design like this where the reader reads the discs from the “outside” side of the device. Most people seem to catch on quick which is good. But obviously not everyone is tech savy like the poor lad who paid to get his ps5 fixed when it was the fault of the poor design in the end.
For me, I always remember it this way. The bottom of the disc tray, is where the bottom of the console is (without the PlayStation logo), and therefore the silver part of that disc always goes to the bottom of the console. With the PS5 Disc Edition, you can always tell which side you should put it in, because it's the silver part goes towards the stand you attach to the console if you're using it in horizontal orientation. In vertical, it's quite easy too. The disc drive, if you notice has a kind of a curved shape, and the bottom of the disc goes to that curved shape part and the disc label goes towards the black strip where the power and eject buttons are as John said.
That's the entire reason people get it backwards: In every single console, the disc label faces outwards relative to the console. The PS5's disc drive does not follow that convention because of the way it must be laid horizontally, the drive being at the bottom of the unit.
@@jordanking7711 I'm just pointing out that we've been conditioned to face the label away from the unit on every device known to man. The PS5 has the label facing towards the unit instead.
Did it once a day or so ago but realised what I did. I figured that's what this was about, the person who got charged for this error, seems to me that the PS5 is badly designed when people put the disc in the wrong way.
@@jessealvarez3729 On PS4 the Disc part is in the Middle and on PS3 and PS2 it’s usually the part but on PS5 the Disc is on the bottom and if PlayStation is sideways it can get confusing for most People because of how the PS5 is designed, the curve part makes it look like Disc is supposed to be inserted the other way around
Did this day one. The way it's shaped and how we've become accustomed to putting in disks with the reflective part facing towards the bulky part of the system is the issue. Everytime I switch out the few physical games I have (I hate to admit it but I'm starting to embrace digital) I always have to remind myself to put it in upside down if that makes any sense.
i dont feel like its so much that we are used to facing the reflection towards the system, but more so the fact that its the way you already naturally have the disc in your hand when you take it out of the game case. now you have to do this awkward disc flip in your palm every time you take a game out and want to put it in a ps5
@@Ronbotnik That's true as well! In my mind that's just how I perceive it as the reflective side towards the bulky part of the console because my mind is thinking there's no way the reader is on the cover side. Both great points!
It happened to me the first time when I wanted to insert a disc on my PS5. I wondered why Sony didn’t put a simple marking near the disc area to show the right way to insert it. It costs nothing
I mean….everything has a cost in manufacturing. They would have had to engineer the equipment specifically to add that marking as well. Lots of upfront cost. Plus you have to account for the maintenance cost.
@@futureelement924 Common sense would be to have the readable part facing the thicker side of the system, like it was on both versions of the PS2, all 3 PS3 models and the PS4 slim and PRO (the phat PS4 had the drive in the middle, so it doesn't really apply here either way) The PS5 is literally the first Sony system, where the readable side faces the thin part of the console.
It’s really no big deal, but I was really impressed with their foresight on this matter and how they added a distinct message for those who were unfamiliar
Process of elimination is the best first steps for troubleshooting for everything, ever! Also you are better off running any disc eater horizontal, since discs don't work amazingly vertical.
I done this maybe twice, mostly due to the bottom of the PS5 facing out towards me. I now keep my PS5 horizontally. I think the PS5’s design is confusing, especially since the PS3 and 4 had their disc slot on the top right where PS5 moved theirs the opposite.
lol he said every ps5 user has most likely inserted the disc the wrong way. what he meant to say is that every ps5 user that doesn't have any respect for their hardware and physical media has most likely inserted the disc the wrong way. i couldn't imagine making this mistake with mine.
I've never had this problem with mine, if you compare the digital ps5 to the disc ps5, most of the bulge from the disc drive is on the right side of the slot. So obviously the shiny part of the disc (the readable part) would go towards that side.
Glad I watched 😅In August I got the HFW bundle so I have not had a disc to put in yet. Thankfully by watching your video I saw that I placed my PS5 upside down. And would have put a disc in upside down in the future because of that. I blame the PS3 model and Sony. My PS5 is right next to the 3 both horizontally. The 3 has the disc port on top on the right side of the console. So I put the PS5 next to it the same way. Which is upside down and wrong. Thanks again for saving me a future headache.
It is rather unintuitive. We remove the disk from the case with the upper side toward our palm, and always the "larger" portion of the console would be at the "down side". The PS5 design makes it so the down side needs to be towards our palm. I almost inserted it wrong the first time, and was scratching heads on why they designed it like this (the disk entrance should be at the upper half of the console, IMO)
Yup just got my PS5 the other day. Did this first thing and thought my drive was buggered. It felt intuitive that it the label should face outwards. Anyway worked it out for myself. Funny I see this video a day later!
still to this day I dont understand why Sony designed a system that was clearly aesthetically designed to stand vertically, then put the disc drive in backwards when its in that orientation. now everytime i open a game case i have to subconsciously remember to flip the disc around in my hand before i put it in. wtf were they thinking?
I did everything this guy said on accident. Kind of ironic that I get suggested the video after the fact but he literally covered everything I went did and everything worked out. Great vid 😄
I just got a PS5 yesterday. Thanks for the information. I’m playing mostly online games at the moment. This definitely helps cause I would of put it in the wrong way too.
I did this at first myself when I first got it, then I googled my issue and Google then told me I was putting the disc in upside down. Logically speaking, it makes no sense why the disc reader is built the way it is on the PS5, but oh well
I'm sure I'll eventually do this by accident one day (not the paying for repairs part but accidentally putting the disc in the wrong way). But for now all i do is just memorize the position I'm holding the disc in
This happened to me when I got my first disk game for ps5 because it looks like your putting it in the right way and then you think it is broken and you try it again but turn the disk the other way it works
I actually thought about that. So one time I tried it, disc didn't read so I had it removed immediately. They could have had placed a caution logo on the case itself.
I'll admit that happened first time I tried it, but I just put it right way up, haven't had a problem since, handy to know how to eject the disc tho manually, I've always worried about a power outage midplay and having the disc stuck on previous consoles and the one before that, cheers heaps my friend, thanks heaps for these vids! There incredibly helpful to know, till the next one take care n keep well 👍
The very first time I inserted a disk I did that too, but I would never have guessed it was upside down because the way I inserted it felt natural. Thankfully I got a message on the screen telling me that it can't be read, check if it's damaged OR UPSIDE DOWN. Being my first day with the console, I didn't rule it out and hey what do you know.. 🤣 I still take a couple seconds thinking about it every time I put in a disk since then
That is what happened to me, but I realize I put it the wrong way. I think the common mistake is because that is how we put the PS4 disc inside and muscle memory.
Indeed. That is also my conclusion. The first time I inserted a PS4 game into my new console it almost took me for a loop. I was subconsciously expecting the reader to be the other way round like on the PS4 and 3, but then realised...the damn thing is spun over 180...
Lay your ps5 horizontally so as to avoid this mistake. Also, there exist a design flaw in the ps5-- which can have a negative on your hardware just if it is set up straight. So stick to my advice and your hardware should be okay. 👍🏼, you're welcome.
I never placed the console vertically so I never remotely had this issue and if people actually looked at the instruction manual when unboxing the console they'd know which side up the disc drive is.
The first time I tried a disc in my PS5, I put it in upside down. Took it out, looked at, and put it back in upside down again. Figured I either had a faulty disc or disc drive. For kicks and giggles, I tried flipping it and that did the trick. It's counter-intuitive, I tell you!
I was guilty of this the first time I inserted a disc into my PS5. They always had the disc label facing the right on previous consoles. I wasn't expecting them to change it.
They haven’t changed anything 😂 disc always goes facing down . ( the readable part ) It’s just some basic heads have PlayStation standing and it confuses their single brain cell , so they end up putting it in back to front
I just bought a PS5 used with its original box and Astro A40 headset, Astro mixer, 3 games, 2 controllers and a red crimson charger for both controllers, I didn't test the thing I just went for it in a parking lot, on the way home I was thinking...it's too good to be true, all this for $600, there is no way this thing is working. I know I can fix stuff, so I didn't mind fixing it, I was surprised when it turn on and the set up screen came on, however, when I inserted the disk I didn't see anything for a while, and I thought that's it, the disc drive was broken hence the price, an error message read: Disk Error, somehow I decided to flip it without even thinking it's going to work and I was shocked when it worked. After all, the dude was honest! now I don't blame any body for making this silly mistake! and I'm the old man who bought PlayStation 1 a week after release!
I’m actually picturing inside my head the way the laser reads the disc inside the PS5 when you have it set up vertically. Back end of the disc facing right & the label on it facing left. Got it. Excellent description. Thank you!
Cant say ive ever had an issue with putting a disk in any system wrong. That being said, the PS5 is the first console ive owned that looks more appropriote standing up than laying flat, well because the "flat" part isnt even flat. Yes, we get the stand to make it lay flat but that leaves it to be a very (in my humble opinion) very unstable. The system which is probably 10 inches by 16 inches laying on a stand that is about 6 inches. Basically standing on one foot.
I got my PS5 second hand and one the first thing the seller said to me was "be careful with the orientation of the disk!". never knew it was so prone to mistake.
This only proves some players are fools. I mean, I am looking at my PS5 MANUAL right now. Yes. Manual. It's a little book made from paper included with your console. USE IT! Page 10 (may vary depending on your country). Image tells me everything. Label side of game disc towards power button. Easy 100% success in inserting disc correctly. I'm genius.
Yep, I made this mistake. During setup, they prompt you to put a disc in to begin installation while you finish with the settings. I put in Rift Apart, finish setting up, and there's no Rift Apart. I realized the mistake, flipped the disc over, then went into Astro's Playroom while the game installed.
Hi everyone ! I have a question that bothers me a bit .. and I don't know if it's a defective model and they are all like that .. mine is the CFI-1202A version. I keep it vertical. It's not tight. But I noticed after a while that I play on the back and warm . Hot air comes out and if I touch, always on the back, it is very hot. Do you think it's only mine that has problems?
I don't blame the users for getting this wrong. This is a major design flaw from Sony's part. When inserting a disc, the upper part of the disc drive should always protrude less than the bottom for the index finger when inserting/ejecting the disc (as shown at 0:03).
I am glad that i found this video. I didn't realize that the way i was inserting the disc into the ps5 was the other way round since i am used to inserting discs the way it is done on the ps4.
How? Seriously how do people make this mistake. I don’t know if it’s just me but I knew exactly which way to put the disc in the first time, honestly it wasn’t that hard to figure it out.
Did this yesterday thankfully learn my lesson thankfully nothing was ruined it's just really hard to train your brain to put it in on the left side now
Thank you so much for making this video! I admit it, I'm an idiot. I just got a used PS5 and I thought it was broken because it wouldn't read discs. I even bought RoboCop rogue city twice. A physical copy the first time and then when it wouldn't work I went ahead and bought it digitally. But seriously it looks like you would put it in the other way to me for some reason. Ouch, my pride! At least now I know thanks to your video. I subbed. Thank you!
I will admit, I find it amazing, almost mind blowing that anyone could put the disk in upside down. It's very obvious which way it should be facing when putting it into the drive?
I hope I’m not the only that thought that thinking the disc drive is broken just because the disc wasn’t put in the right way and you didn’t bother to check if the other side of the disc would work and is not reading the disc is a little over dramatic. Like my first instinct if I noticed that my disc drive is not reading the disc would be to flip it over and try the other side of the disc and not just instantly think my disc drive is broken. The mistake in putting the disc the wrong way I get can easily happen but to not simply check if that was the case and think the disc drive is broken is what baffles me 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Had my PS5 since day 1 and I can honestly say I haven't done this once. I think laying it flat helps prevent making this mistake.
What’s effort didn’t know you watch this guy too!
@@TRILLiMELO ayyyeeee Trilli !!!
Yeah, it really is this easy. I've heard of people panicking over this until they actually read.
it’s not being patient, it’s called having an IQ above room temperature.
@@Judefluff525 a little deep but okay.
I don't like the design of the PS5, I also don't like how PS5 can't lay horizontally without a foot.
@@automation7295 the design is fine. The disc drive should've just been arrow labeled this side ⬆️
@@terrauncebowie6712 Design may be fine for you, but I don't like the fact that both sides of PS5 curvy.
@@Diandredofus What does that have to do with anything? It's the same process
I agree, this is a bad design
I dont think is a bad design thats how you insert the disc on every play station before the ps5.
It is poorly designed
@@jessealvarez3729 On PS4 the Disc part is in the Middle and on PS3 and PS2 it’s usually the part but on PS5 the Disc is on the bottom and if PlayStation is sideways it can get confusing for most People because of how the PS5 is designed, the curve part makes it look like Disc is supposed to be inserted the other way around
Congratulations you have been selected among the shortlisted winner's for the ongoing ps5 giveaway What'sapp the number above ^^^^^^^^^^^^👆………..
This makes me glad I immediately got my PS5 set _horizontally_ so confusion is much less likely. Thank you old school habits!!!
If you own a series X then it's going to be even stupider since the shinny part is facing the fat ass part
I do that twice on day one 🙄
@@adhistyafebryanto5175 lol don't feel bad! Pretty sure a high percentage of us also did it. I mean as you seen in my original post I did it too 😂😂
so, instead of trying the disc multiple times and flipping it, he sent it to sony bc he thought it was broken.....what a sad world we live in
Seriously lol, simple fucking logic but logical thinking doesn’t apply with people these days apparently lol
Yep I'm guilty of doing this myself but figured it out pretty quickly thank goodness😅
Lucky for me I've always put the disc the right way. But every piece of information helps - Thanks John.
Lol I did this when I got mine and thought it was broken
i did that yesterday on mine
Thanks I did not know about that manual eject feature, that's awsome. I did find myself making the same mistake though but I caught on quickly
It happened to me the first time when I wanted to insert a disc on my PS5. I wondered why Sony didn’t put a simple marking near the disc area to show the right way to insert it. It costs nothing
How about you use common sense that works just as well🤣🤣
I mean….everything has a cost in manufacturing. They would have had to engineer the equipment specifically to add that marking as well.
Lots of upfront cost. Plus you have to account for the maintenance cost.
@@futureelement924 Common sense would be to have the readable part facing the thicker side of the system, like it was on both versions of the PS2, all 3 PS3 models and the PS4 slim and PRO (the phat PS4 had the drive in the middle, so it doesn't really apply here either way)
The PS5 is literally the first Sony system, where the readable side faces the thin part of the console.
@@feartheolivebread PS5 also is literally Sony's first system that must be vertical.
@@automation7295 Actually, the console can be placed horizontally on the stand, it just takes up a lot of space so most people keep it vertical.
I think the PS5’s design is confusing, especially since the PS3 and 4 had their disc slot on the top right where PS5 moved theirs the opposite.
i do it every once in awhile too but only when i'm not paying attention to how i'm holding the disc lol
lol he said every ps5 user has most likely inserted the disc the wrong way. what he meant to say is that every ps5 user that doesn't have any respect for their hardware and physical media has most likely inserted the disc the wrong way. i couldn't imagine making this mistake with mine.
Funny I see this video a day later!
still to this day I dont understand why Sony designed a system that was clearly aesthetically designed to stand vertically, then put the disc drive in backwards when its in that orientation. now everytime i open a game case i have to subconsciously remember to flip the disc around in my hand before i put it in. wtf were they thinking?
imo it looks way better horizontally
PS2 and PS3 required discs to be inserted the same way.
First time I put a disc in, I put it in the wrong way. Just sitting on my couch waiting on Mortal Kombat to load...it never did 😢
I did everything this guy said on accident.
Logically speaking, it makes no sense why the disc reader is built the way it is on the PS5, but oh well
This mistake is very common because we've had the printed side of the PS4 disc face us especially if the PS4 is placed vertically 😄
I'm sure I'll eventually do this by accident one day (not the paying for repairs part but accidentally putting the disc in the wrong way). But for now all i do is just memorize the position I'm holding the disc in
did this the first time, it seemed logical that the disk reading stuff would be on the bigger side! noticed quickly enough though
This happened to me when I got my first disk game for ps5 because it looks like your putting it in the right way and then you think it is broken and you try it again but turn the disk the other way it works
I actually thought about that. So one time I tried it, disc didn't read so I had it removed immediately. They could have had placed a caution logo on the case itself.
i have a question
i have seen 2 types of ps5s classic and digital but my question is can i download games like i do on digital in the classic
Thank you!
Idk if you see this but u have great video editing skills, succinct and precise
I never have done this because I just imagine the ps5 sideways so it's facing up
That's exactly what happen to me when I got my ps5 but am glad I knew after the second attempt 😅
No I just read the instructions 😊
Cant say ive ever had an issue with putting a disk in any system wrong. That being said, the PS5 is the first console ive owned that looks more appropriote standing up than laying flat, well because the "flat" part isnt even flat. Yes, we get the stand to make it lay flat but that leaves it to be a very (in my humble opinion) very unstable. The system which is probably 10 inches by 16 inches laying on a stand that is about 6 inches. Basically standing on one foot.
What a clickbait title… most people are actually putting the disc in the correct way. Unbelievable.
I got my PS5 second hand and one the first thing the seller said to me was "be careful with the orientation of the disk!". never knew it was so prone to mistake.
GO TO 0:58 ...thank me later :)
I just go my PS5 a few days ago, and your videos have definitely helped. Thanks a bunch.
I just got my ps5 and this was the first thing I looked up so thank you for uploading this.
W video, helpful, quick and to the point
Yeah I had this happen to me but managed to figure it out in time before causing any damage to the drive. Super lucky
As an avid Wii owner, this is gonna be hard to adjust to…
Okay boomer
I don't blame the users for getting this wrong. This is a major design flaw from Sony's part.
When inserting a disc, the upper part of the disc drive should always protrude less than the bottom for the index finger when inserting/ejecting the disc (as shown at 0:03).
Luckily u uploaded this video before I got my first ps5 disc, Tysm
So glad I’m subscribed
lmao who wouldn't first try it the other way around before thinking it's broken 💀
I got a PS5 for Christmas but haven’t inserted any disks yet. Thanks for telling me! 😊
Tbh this was very helpful 😂I bought 2k17 for nostalgia and thought it wasn’t playable on ps5
Thanks a lot, man. I’m definitely saving this video for when I get a PS5. Perhaps I might turn it horizontally. 👍
Just getting a new ps5 so glad I watched this video beforehand thank you very much
this is a classic example of "don't fix what is not broke", in this case the removal of disc tray
Thinking about buying a PS5 this is the biggest concern. I’ve had this video helped a lot.
Great info,I didn't know there is a manual screw disc eject mechanism, nice
Did this yesterday thankfully learn my lesson thankfully nothing was ruined it's just really hard to train your brain to put it in on the left side now
Wow the guy who put the disk in upside down and instead of correcting it like a normal person, decided it’s the ps5 fault and sent it in.
All these years and people still haven’t figured out that it’s supposed to go in with the label up?
It doesnt work with me i waited for mins but still thay circle hasnt appeared yet what should i do
This goes against 20 years of console design. Thank you. You saved my weekend.
The mistake in putting the disc the wrong way I get can easily happen but to not simply check if that was the case and think the disc drive is broken is what baffles me 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Got to admit. I'm feeling pretty clever now I put the disk in the right way round first time!!
Thank you for the tip. You should also make a video for when we insert a USB stick upside down ...
My husband loves his ps5 but he has a question why didn’t they make the eject button and the power button coloured red for eject and green for power
I did when I first got mine. I had it vertical at first then put it horizontal on its stand and realised what I was doing wrong lol
Idk why but when I put in the disk the reading logo doesn’t show up, I just got this PS5 today and I would hate for it to already be defective
