How I Use eBay Promoted Listings: IS IT REALLY WORTH IT?

  • In this video, I’m breaking down how eBay makes money through promoted listings and whether it’s worth using them for your store. In 2023, eBay earned over $10 billion, with a big chunk coming from ad fees paid by sellers. I'll share my experience on how much I’ve spent on eBay ads this year, my strategies for setting ad rates, and why I think it's better to start low and work your way up.
    I’ll also explain why ad fees can be tricky, how I handle offers when ads are involved, and what you need to know to avoid paying extra fees. Plus, I'll share my thoughts on eBay's business model, and why it could lead to rising costs for sellers and higher prices for buyers.
    If you're trying to decide whether to use promoted listings or how to optimize your ad rates, this video is for you. I'll give you the insights I wish I had when I started, and share tips on how to improve your sales without breaking the bank on ads.
    Thank you for all the support on the channel! Don’t forget to subscribe and like this video, and check out my Amazon affiliate links below to support the channel at no extra cost. Drop a comment if you have questions, or share your own ad rate strategies-I'd love to hear from you!

    Just a data point: In July I started offsite ads with the direction of an Ebay consultant. The second week of the program, sales doubled. Overall, as of last week my sale FELL 50%! I stopped all promotions (I still have basic promoted listings, for now) and in one week my sales increased 70%. Their promotions have serious problems.

      Super interesting. I haven't tried off-site ads. Thank you for sharing and watching 🤟

    Great topic! I tend to promote higher priced items when I have a very low buy cost. It does feel like there is a sweet spot in there somewhere for selling with offers, calculated shipping, occasional promotions, sending offers, and running sales.

    I promote everything at the minimum of 2% and have seen my sales go up. It works even at the lowest amount.

    I promote nothing for the first 60 days then after that I will go through and promote everything at around 6 percent. I find that a high percent of my items I list sell in the first 60 days and do not have to pay the promoted listing fee.

    Newbie here...how do you promote whole store as opposed to individual item you are posting?

    • @SecondChancePicker
      @SecondChancePicker  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you want you can bulk edit listings and change ad rate that way. I always just promote individually but use the same rates

    I do a flat 4% promotion rate for all my games and 5% for consoles since there are more listings for the consoles

    Do you only get a seller hub if you have a store, or is it only an option from desktop?

    • @SecondChancePicker
      @SecondChancePicker  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You get access to seller hub as long as you've sold at least 1 item. It's much easier to access on desktop but you can access it through the app by searching "sellerhub" and clicking it under "help & contact" it's clunky on the phone much easier to use on desktop.

    What is your opinion on promoting rare items? Some things have only 0 to 5 listings so I wonder how important promoting is in those cases. I wonder if it is simply a waste especially for expensive items.

    • @SecondChancePicker
      @SecondChancePicker  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I personally promote everything but you should play around with it and see what works best for you and your store. Remember you only pay the ad fee if they click the ad so if it is a rare item and they search for it and find it organically then you don't pay anyways.

    • @p0ck3tp3ar
      @p0ck3tp3ar หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SecondChancePicker Hmm that is a very good point. What happens in cases where an item is rare, say 5 listed or fewer and you have it promoted?

    • @SecondChancePicker
      @SecondChancePicker  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't have exact data on any of that so not sure. I would still make my ad rate based on str just because it's rare doesn't necessarily mean it will have a high sell through rate.

    • @p0ck3tp3ar
      @p0ck3tp3ar หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SecondChancePicker That is true but if it is rare it is often easily found in a search. Generally I just don't promote those items because I figure they'll sell anyway. However, I am essentialy talking about video games, not a random rare frying pan or something :P

    Hi isn’t it better to just give refund to someone instead of paying for another label that may eat up all or most of the profit and even more importantly, you won’t have a return on your account that way. Please answer if you have time. Thank you, you do a great job, your channel will grow I’m sure. Keep it up

    • @SecondChancePicker
      @SecondChancePicker  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends. If they open a return request it's too late and you will have a return on your account regardless of how you refund them. If they message me and I'm 100% sure it's legit, broke in mail ect then I may not require the item back but 99% of the time I personally require a return before I issue a refund it can reward buyers in the future to open false returns in hopes of getting the item for free. I also get a lot of people who open requests then never actually return the item and I don't have to refund in that case. Depends on your business model and you have to do what's best for you. Thank you for watching 🤟

      20% - holy moly that's a lot. Is there a way you came to that number over time? In other words have you tried lower or higher ad rates and come to the conclusion that 20% is your sweet spot? Or that's just where you started from jump?

      You would NEVER? Makes no sense. So if you could double your sales by paying promoted listings you wouldn't do it? That's like Coke or McDonalds saying they would NEVER pay for commercials because it's "pay to play". The name of the game is pay to play - you should either get on board or feel free to start your own website.

      I’ve been on eBay for 25 years. Yes,in the first 10 years there was very little competition. But now there are millions more listings. So now it looks like you need to push your listings.

    eBay scam = Fee's on Shipping & Tax -

    • @SecondChancePicker
      @SecondChancePicker  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Ebay had to on shipping since people abused it and started charging $1 for the item and $99 for shipping to avoid fees. Taxes is tougher to swallow for sure but ebay does collect all the taxes and pay it to each state for us so at least they provide a service for that portion of the fee. Thank you for watching 🤟

    • @brian4180
      @brian4180 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Neither of those are a scam, they both make sense for eBay to do. You must not realize that back in the day people would just sell an item for .99 cents and then charge huge shipping because there was no fee on it. What should eBay do to stop this? There's nothing wrong with paying fees on shipping. And you should be happy that eBay takes care of taxes to each state for you - it would be an absolute nightmare otherwise.

  • @jamesdoeberling7830

    You sir have taken a very selfish position. Promoted listings are just an additional fee designed to fill eBay’s coffers. Does it then become an arms race to see who pays the most percent? Sellers in competitive categories may get a temporary sales boost but it's really at the expense of other sellers. Eventually those sellers losing their sales will also start promoting and... here you can see the problem. A few years down the road, we may be all be paying 5-10% promotions just to get the same level of sales as we had before.
