Huge humpback 🐋 gives divers 🤿 a 'too close for comfort' 😧 encounter off the coast of Norway 🛥

  • A diver had an amazing 'all too close' encounter with a huge humpback whale after it surfaced just yards from him in search of an easy meal.
Dan Senior was filming orca in Norway's Arctic region when the killer whales rounded up a huge bait ball of small fish - with the group of divers - inadvertently in the middle.
The humpback surged towards them with its huge mouth gaping wide open before it scooped up the small fry and headed back down into the deep.

For our first trip together, my hubby and I went to this beach in the spring where the whales just had their babies, so we got to watch tons of mama whales with their giant precious babies. But I SEVERELY underestimated the sheer size and power of these animals. You never really can get a grasp of how big they are until you see them in person!!! They were only about 20-30ft from shore, breaching and slapping their tails....and the sound could be heard from an acre or so away. We heard them when we were up on the cliff just watching from afar. Theyre magnificent!!

Fun fact: Humpbacks hate orcas, like they genuinely despise them. Humpbacks hate orcas so much that they’ll go out of their way to disrupt orca hunts and make the orcas lose their food. They’ll use their size to scare away orcas by slapping the water with their tails and fins (they never actually hit them though) and since humpbacks often travel in pairs or packs there isn’t much the orcas can do to stop them. They’ve been noted to save seals, porpoises and other smaller whales from orcas
This is likely due to the fact that orcas are the only predators of humpbacks and will usually split the weakest members (sick, old or young) and bash them into exhaustion. Since humpbacks are intelligent they haven’t forgotten this over the many thousand of generations they’ve had and so they’ve developed a pure hatred for any orca
Edit: Take a shot for the amount of times I said orca in this post, you’ll end up with liver damage

The whale did a tail stand, lifting its body vertically out of the water close enough to touch it. It was amazing to see this gray wall raising higher and higher as the great eye went past and the whale checked out the top deck. Then slowly the whale sank back down . They are intellegent and curious. They know the ships in that area are not hurting them and sometimes come right alongside and show off.

The whale is wondering why they are panicking ; It's only having lunch. These animals are so attentive they pass by humans within inches and don't rock their boats.Eventhough I think they get a chuckle now and then😄

They have also accidentally grabbed people and dragged them under. They tend to spit people back out but if they have gone 500 or 1000 feet deep in a few seconds then they die anyway

🐳He instantly knows how he's affecting the divers and he seems to back off a bit, realizing he's intimidating them. He making sure to give a nonthreatening, friendly vibe. He seemed like he said "Hi", to the camera man on his way down, trying to open his mouth as little as possible to keep the fish in🤭 The diver unconsciously waved back, while simultaneously being excited and terrified all at once! It's awesome that even before he had the chance to think about any of this crazy encounter, the camera man instinctively got the vibe of the whale saying"hello/goodbye", and responds accordingly!👋🐋❤ Such a beautiful experience🤿!
