    EXCELLENT vid! I was just looking for where to place the stands. I had it on the frame rail on my 2008 Mustang GT. I thought it was secure. Was cranking the nut to replace front sway bar bushing. One of the stands then "shifted"... scaring the hell out of me. I am actually reluctant to go back down there now. Lol.

      @markurbancowboy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I know what you mean; I put mine on the pinch welds, no shifting or slipping there. Also, a friend suggested keeping your jack and an old wheel and tire under the car also as a another means of security.

    From FORD - Warning
    Do not use the spare tire jack to lift your truck at the rear differential housing. It does not have the weight capacity for this lift point - THATS USING THE FACTORY JACK - THEY THEN SAY
    An easier way is to lift the rear of the truck off the ground via the differential. This will lift both sides of the truck simultaneously and evenly. easier way to lift the rear-end of the vehicle all at once. The spare tire jack does not have the weight capacity for this. Only use a floor jack or a bottle jack.

    • @arcorob

      FYI - for rear of the car, use the differential (use a rubber puck so as not to damage the cover) but just beyond the lip. For the front, just before the oil pain (toward the bumper) on the support member for the front suspension - been that way on cars for years. NEVER let it touch the oil pan. you'll bend it and have leaks
      Hope this helps ..if I could, I would post pictures

    ONE important note - USe the supplied locking pins for the jack stands ..I kid you not. some guy hit the lever with a tool and they came down. Saw an experiment on how could that happen ? Guy proved if you have 500lbs of force on the stand for example and hit the lever with a hammer (working underneath) BING ..down goes the stand ...he was stunned that it could happen and I am too...use the pins

      i could understand the reasoning for such stands, you don't have to jack up the car much to get them released and out of the way, but for safety i like the older style where the release has to physically raise up 1 tooth on the stand to actually release.

  • @saburbanstyle16
    @saburbanstyle16 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If you need to get the car higher on those same jacks, is it best to lift a the whole side or do them each 1 by 1. So for example if you have the car on all 4 stands at the lowest setting but u want to go up 3 notches all the way around what's the best way to do that ?

    Bill, have you (or someone you know) bent the pinch welds at all? My wife's car is a Ford unibody and I noticed some marring and slight bending after lifting her car for some brake work. Now I'm afraid to lift my Mustang. Any tips on that? Also, what about placing the saddle of the jack stand "inside" the pinch weld lengthwise rather than straddling the pinch weld? It seems like there's a sturdy frame rail there and it won't bend anything.

    Never jack the car up or place jack stands on the K member mount. It is designed to tear away in colisions and is not reinforced for that load. If youndo you risk bending or tearing that box it is mounted to.

      Put it under the rear differential. Also check out the BMR jacking rails. I just put a set on my Mustang. They make rotating the tires so much easier. You only have to use one lift point for the whole side.

    Are there any American made jack stands? All I’ve been able to find is Chinese made junk. There are a lot of videos of jack stands folding under the weight of the car. Harbor Freight Chinese made junk stands killed a few people. There was a lawsuit a few years back.

    Hi Bill, Your videos are generally very helpful but the CJ jack points videos are giving some bad advice. For many years now you are not to jack S197 and newer Mustangs by the differential. Ford specifically points this out in all their owners manuals in writing and with drawings. You might want to update your videos recommending this. Otherwise thanks for terrific videos.
