The resolution thing is interesting. They want to store the resolution in a single 32 bit word, with the height in the first 16, and the width in the second. So they have you multiply the height by 65536 (2^16) to shift it over 16 bits, then add the width, setting the width to the second 16 bits. Stuff like that is a way to save memory. It's not much, but it adds up. Strange that they'd do it in a game from 2006 though.
@@tazamane9705 Well, it depends. It does not make sense grammatically but it still is funny and I can see why it is funny. ^~^ So even in german it could be funny, if you know Uber and you can understand english so far.

I don't know if you've done one on sniper elite but after currently replaying 3 and 4 with no red diamond I'm realizing the majorly impressive replay value. I enjoyed 3 and 4 but finished and forgotten. During this game drought I decided to try them again with no red diamond and I'm loving it. Learning wind and bullet drop in relation to distance or ammo type is fun to learn, frustrating at first, but your first 350 high wind kill in the first shot is immensely satisfying.
Fucking hell so many games came out in 2005... and 2007 and 201 and every year inbetween. I feel that game releases slowed down significantly after 2013. Especially single player games. We had TONS of new games AA and AAA games each month. Now we have like 2 or 3 really good single player games per year if any
To be fair, the way resolution is stored makes sense (given that it was supposed to be an internal representation that user should never see): it is two 16 bit numbers stored as one 32 bit number - the width is first, so you need to shift it 16 bits to the left, which is the exact same as multiplying it by 2^16 or 65536 and then add the second number without modifying it
There are exceptions indeed for me the biggest was Metro 2033 Decided the play it again in 2018. I was blown away by the graphics. In my mind the graphics were way less gorgeous But than again when the game was released back in 2010 my computer couldn't play it on Ultra. Now I can
I know this is an old comment but I had the game when it was released but I couldn't play it on my potato PC at the time. It has been sitting in my steam library unplayed for ages. I just got a gaming PC with a 3070 and now I'm wondering how the game is. Thanks to your comment I'm going to check it out.
Thanks fo the vid! Well, it was a game from Burut Studios, infamous in Russia for "Kreed" - The "Doom killer" from 2003. They had it all: heavy sci-fi lore and kilobytes of text on in-game monitors, graphics downgrade, bad voice acting, etc. But, this "Uber Soldier" series shown that they can do better. Bit by bit, but they can. Unfortunately, along comes World Financial Crisis and russian game development's died(( Yet, there are another couple of Russian/Ukrainian studios which made far from ideal but still memorable PC-shooters: Orion - "Hellforces" (2004/ Begun in zombie infested city streets, continued in underground secret labs, through Columbian jungles, straight to the Alien ship & ends up in Hell); "Metro-2: Stalin's Subway" (2005/ The 1950-s Moscow and soviet conspiracy); "The Hunt" (2008/ Condemned look-alike). Mandel ArtPlains/Digital Spray Studios - "You Are Empty" (2006/ The experiment goes wrong in the big soviet city - all citizens' mutated). Action Forms - "Chasm: The Rift" (1997/ Great Quake/HeXen 2 look-alike); "Cryostasis" (2008/ Great atmospheric action/horror).
God bless to all programmers of old games who think ahead of their time and let the game resolution can be adjusted by future players with just minor ini editing. Then there's another type of programmers that wants you to literally do math formula just to change resolution, lmao. Its like blowing up a power plant just to turn off an electric fence.
I can't live without a higher FOV, I usually am okay at 90, but I prefer 120. I even am willing to push graphics down to get a smooth framerate with high FOV. I even modded 120 in to Skyrim on Xbox One
How do people not realize FOV is a massive issue? Bad FOV makes me really sick, I'm genuinely surprised that there are a lot of people who just don't notice it.
I'm more baffled that there are A TON of people that literally insult me and tell me to "stop being an fov elitist and stop whining" if I bring up fov at all. How fucking stupid can people be?
Its one of those things people aren't thinking about so they just dint notice. I was the same way, but once I played a game with high fov I realised how sick I'd get with a low one. Once people are exposed to it they can't go back.
I remember playing this a long time ago, a friend of mine was showing it off because he had a blast with it, then I took it home and played it and wondered why I was friends with that guy 😂
People who get angy when you complain about FOV sound to me like amishes who complains about technology. If you used to a shitty FOV becaused you played your entire life on consoles or you played a lot of bad console ports that doesn't mean that it's better this way.
Video on Area-51? I truly love that game and don’t think it gets the love it deserves. From what I remember it was pretty long and had a neat backstory. Or I could be nostalgic.
Regarding the resolution situation. For DX7-8-9 games, you can use DgVodoo to run the games in DX11 or DX12. DgVodoo also handles resolution scaling like a native SSAA implementation. So you get all benefits of 4K for example on a 1080p screen, but no UI is misaligned or scaled improperly. (think of FEAR 1 and its ridiculously small subtitles at high resolutions. Even arguably, 1080p) Would've worked for this game also. Probably.
I wonder if the people behind ubersoldier one were fans of medal of honor pacific assault, the game does have two turret sections but honestly they are more memorable than the brief footage of the turret section in ubersoldier.
One of the games fro my childhood. If I remember correctly, the cap on health boost is 199, and doesn't go any higher. I don't really remember all of the bullshit, outside of really weird melee enemies, that had a lot of health and could kill in a couple of punches.
Just finished this game, looks very good on max settings 4k 60 fps. Lately im doing old school games a run and i must say for 2005 game i think ubersolider looks best of them all.
I can't get over how friggin weird the first person view models are. Like he's not even remotely pointing the gun forward, he just sort of awkwardly pointing it at the center of the screen. (Maybe this is a result of the fov change, but it's still weird)
I care a lot about the FOV in games I don'tget motion sick but I just I that everything looks like it's dircectly in front of you when you play at a lower FOV play with a lower fov and then lock at the ground or the corner of a room the lower corner to be exact
That music from Legendary in the background - it’s all right, but I think I’d prefer having no music or just having game audio in the background. If you want to keep using it feel free, I’m just wondering why you’ve had it there for the last few videos. This is still a good video either way
The footage is taken from my streams. I can not use game audio because that also has my live commentary with it. I'd be talking over myself and I don't feel like replaying entire games just for some more footage so I put music in the background. Trust me, you'll realize how much better having music is there when you don't have the music playing.
