Burnley’s academy has been on an upward trajectory since Jon Pepper took charge in September 2016.
It was a challenge that the 47 year-old Pepper wanted to take on. He had previously been academy manager at Bradford City and an academy coach at Nottingham Forest.
With Burnley’s promotion to the Premier League, came an emphasis on developing the academy and from his previous role.
Under the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) initiative introduced in 2012, clubs in England are given a ranking of 1 to 4 based on productivity rates, training facilities, quality of coaching, education and their welfare provisions
Pepper inherited a Category Three club, but by the summer of 2017 Burnley were a Category Two club.

The most soothing voice in all of football
Just unreal
Like having caramel poured into your ears... Except not as sticky.
Sean Dyche?
When you're able to make Burnley's youth system interesting to listen about, you're doing something well.
Fuck off, Red Law.
@@stevemelling9438 he's not wrong though is he. who have they developed and who will likely be a future premier league player? nobody. they have done well in buying players and making them first team players though but not through their academy.
Writeous0ne dwight mcneil came through? he’s class
@@andyf5527 5 goals in 50 apps?
@@Writeous0ne hes not a striker he plays on the wing
The training ground is actually in the grounds of Gawthorpe Hall in nearby Padiham and always has been. Barnfield Construction is the company who redeveloped the the facilities and have the naming rights.
Paul just what I was thinking pal .
I'm absolutely amazed that Dwight Mcneill wasn't even mentioned once in this video when he's the biggest example of our improved youth system at Burnley!
I presume he wasn't mentioned because he was at the club before you made all these changes?
Ved Kulkarni united got rid of him, Burnley made him
@Ved Kulkarni That's the whole point of the video! It points out that Burnley now have a stratedgy of taking players that are not developing quickly or getting enough game time at bigger clubs and then turning them into gems. Dwight McNeil is the perfect example of that.
He is from united mate
Kevin Dowling all United did was kick him out of a team and tell him he wasn’t good enough when clearly he is
love it 10/10 more Burnley content please
Should look at Derby’s youth system. Got to the champions league and have won premier league and easily beat the big clubs
James Voce
Very true, Jayden Bogle, Jason Knight, Louie Sibley, Max Bird, Morgan Whittaker and Lee Buchanan all look like promising players
We are talking g this century not the last
How did they get to the CL? I though you the same teams played their as who played in the mens comp?
sjewitt22 no they won the u18s league so got put in cl qualifiers and lost in the quarters
Fulham have done some great stuff as well
Thank you for putting some respect on my club❤️
Great video, but the training centre is in padiham, a place near burnley. Barnfield is the construction company that built it.
it's actually in the parish of Ightenhill, although the entrance is in Padiham. I presume that, unlikely as it seems, Gawthorpe training ground is in Burnley.
Okk so Mr.Pepper is spicing up the clarets eh ? 😅😅😅
Lmao
Didn't know that Kingpin worked for Burnley
He has to do something when he's not antagonizing Spider-Man and dare devil
"When I was a boy..."
One of my favourite channels if not the favourite. Very interesting videos, keep it up!
Dope video. Nice to see burnley being covered in your videos
So many videos about Burnley.. i love it
Great video guys! Any chance we can get a video on Swansea citys academy. The likes of joe rodon, connor Roberts, ben cabango all coming through there not to mention the success stories of players like dan james and oli mcburnie
Please do one about Brentfords b team. It's a great story
the academy is not in Barnfield, that is the name of the company that build it
Bloody interesting video
Burnley planning for the post apocalyptic world after the Corona plague?
stickerhppy it’s not a plague for gods sake stop saying such things. I realise it was meant to be funny, but still.
@@theoneaboveall6751 PLAGUE! PLAGUE! PLAGUE!!!!!
TheSilvermint real mature you are aren’t you
@@theoneaboveall6751 oh my god, are you really UNDERESTIMATING THE PLAGUE?!?!????
He’s just upset because he’s got the plague 💀😂
Jonathan Pepper... I got in contact with him about becoming a video analyst back here in Nigeria. Top man him
It is always good to see a Tifo video
even more when its the athletic
Why do I find your voice so relaxing lol
Two years on, we've just been relegated and our category 1 youth system or whatever has just been stripped back to a 2, however now that Dyche has gone I reckon we will actually get to reap the rewards of the youth, finally getting to see some of them in the first team this season especially with such a limited budget
I want to see the youth come through. United, city, liverpool take the best talent & discard them at 19 to 21. Some of these just need first team football to show what they can do. Dwight is a prime example. Hope we can attract more now. UTC
Id sign for burnley if i was youngster
Please make a video on how clubs will be financial affected by the Corona virus.
Do one about Bournemouth and their cat3 youth setup.
Congrats for 700k subs.
Brexit /homegrown quoata question: is a Scottish player in an English club considered "affiliated" with the club if they are not from their academy?
for example post Brexit is Kieran Tierney a "foreign" player at Arsenal or does he fit the homegrown quota?
Scotland is part of the UK so no he is not foreign
Me- Opens Tifo page to see a video on all the suspensions and impending cancellations in world football and more insights and learnings from it.
Tifo- How Burnley are planning for its future.
This apparent contradiction was brought to you by the athletic
I assume the training ground is next to a pie shop
That's the Burnley way
that’s the Burnley way!
can you please make a video about the potential near future of football due to the coronavirus outbreak? thanks
Barnfield is actually just the name of the training ground, the actual location is Padiham on gawthorpe hall grounds
We love you burnley we do we love you burnley we do ohhh Burnley we love you
How you gonna do that Irish lad like that, giving him a double chin.
Last time I was this early, dubstep still existed
Still exists
*was relevent atleast
That map of Lancashire is heartbreaking
Transitions look a little bit clunky? Still a great video 👍
I love your voice
Please cover USMNT cause I don’t understand it
Burnley have always been in the shadow of Blackburn for youth training good to see we’re picking up utc
And the video doesn’t even mention Benson banging free kicks at Grimsby and of course the success of McNeil
Mcneill is from united academy
@@kevindowling788 all man u did was kick him out and say he wasnt good enough, he went to burnley and burnley made him
This comment was an adaptation from The Athletic.
Dwight mcneil
keelan williams is neco williams’ brother
should do a video on how coronavirus is effecting football
Can’t believe that you have said bar field is a place on the map like a small village
Look at Derby’s analysts, sane quality of top prem teams
Welp the Premier League is suspended until April 3rd and Champions League games as well.
They'll only be able to sign players from Europe aged 18 or over. Unless the parents spontaneously decide to move to England, sure hasn't the father just secured a cushy job at a Premier League club and Oh look, your Son's pretty good at football, you should bring him along to the academy. What a fortuitous turn of events.
Barry Davies would appreciate your voice
Bring in bang average fullbacks😎
Do a video on thiery Henry’s Montreal Impact
There's not much to say they've only played 2 games and MLS has suspended the season
StrykesV3 StrykesV3 True
sorry, can I get the textual format of the video to translate and share with my friends?
Did Dwight McNeil come through the Burnley academy?
Yes
Damn that’s class, I think he’ll definitely move to a bigger club soon
Last time i was this early, Arsenal was in the champions league. But seriously Burnley is really doing a great job with their academy
Did you type this out and think it was funny? Are you brain dead?
Dispocobble me Grü ask yourself if what you’re getting mad over is serious. If not, then shut the fuck up
Why is Ross Kemp the thumbnail
He’s a big guy
Louie Raine for yoy
UTC
Utc
What future?
Chelsea have the best Academy in the country.
And dont play most of them. Then they come to B class premier teams and flourish. Our gain, your loss
Previous video we do more than just 442. This video yeah nah 442 is what we do.
They should start by replacing their wooden seats
More exciting than actually watching Burnley play
Good enuff for prem league? Or good enuff for league 1? It's all well and good as they say? No doubt they have made inroads but...
crashing down proper club with more history than half the teams in the prem
Corona virus effects on football how about a video on that not from athletic?
Of course Burnley use 442
Why didn’t you mention Dwight McNeil
I am a Burnley fan and I am saying WHAT IS THIS FACT THIS IS WIERD!
Pls do Covid -19 videos

You'd guess this summer teams are gonna be signing a few 16 yo's from Europe. If it's their last chance.
First
You were third, nobody cares, stop making the internet worse
badly run club they about to go bankrupt due to paying over 80 % of their income on wages . we should bring in some rules to stop clubs doing this to protect them from going bankrupt
But are they really tho?
All of this and Dwight McNeil is the only recognised youngster to come through. (Taken from Man U United)
This is just pointless then, because even big clubs blood in more youngsters.
One player is a good return, considering we are in the Premier league and the changes to the youth team only started 4 years ago.
David Holgate I could disagree because in most youth academies from u17 and upwards this gives around 100 teens the possibility to start in a game yet ONE has been used considering the investment such as wages etc and players who leave or are released especially when they pride themselves you youngster representing countries at youth level is evidently terrible.
@@ezioauditorejrnHe's not the only one to come through. He's the only recent premier league quality one yes, but we've sold quite a few others to lower league clubs.
Unknown Unknown Youth academies don’t succeed instantly, especially when many of the larger teams are in the same area, but Burnley will probably have good youth academy if their first team keeps playing well.
Do you lot know anything about football?
Unfortunate that the Burnley youth are gonna have to play BREXIT football
This is a very bland video, love your videos but this honestly was just an average story about how most academy’s run.
It’s not a great future plan when you think about it I’m a Celtic supporter and ours is streets ahead
Let's be honest. No-one likes Burnley
Many people like the club
Burnley is one of the most underrated clubs in the prem
@@plattfelix1558 apart from that. I don't know who could possibly like them. They play the most dull brand of Football, I know why they do it but still it's fucking boring to watch as a neutral
LG XD it gets the job done most of the time beating bigger clubs
LG XD Then don’t watch it. They score goals, keep clean sheets, and get results against larger teams despite having the lowest wages one of the lowest transfer expenses in the prem.
Burnley don’t use black players.. this video is a myth
Clearly then you have not seen the U18 or U23 teams.
