    Just beat the game yesterday... it's part of my "getting into a Christmas mood" routine. Probably because I beat it for the first time around Christmas back in 2000. And, of course, it'sspecial to me, since it was the first TR game I ever played and finished. Every level is full of memories and long-buried emotions.

    Greetings! This is an improved video of my older walkthrough of Tomb Raider 3. It is completely re-rendered and upscaled to 1440p (should appear in quality settings sooner or later), it contains all parts of the game, including the standalone expansion called The Lost Artifact, shows all secrets and all item pickups and, most importantly every single timestamp in the description of this video is revised and readjusted to be better, giving you more context and convenience. This also shows that this is the biggest classic Tomb Raider game time-wise, not even Tomb Raider 4 gets close to 12 hours (and this is a moderately paced walkthrough). If you haven't seen my TR3 videos then this master video is a great opportunity for you. There are mostly two downsides to this walkthrough: some parts in India and Nevada had scene with skipping framerate, nothing I can do to fix it, as that's how the footage got botched by capture software and the field of view of the camera is lower than it should be due to old widescreen hack used at the time. Other than these two issues I think it's still a great watch. It took me many days to re-render this, hope you'll like it. The upload was over 120GBs in size as well.

I was bothered (and still am) with the amount of action in TR2 and Golden Mask, but it was overshadowed by all the other aspects of those games.

    Imagine a remake of this game... like they do with many other games...it would be the best selling adventure game of all time I think

    • @saquoiafighter
      @saquoiafighter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Respectfully disagree. Modern games have a lot more "safety nets" to hand-hold the player's hand: HUD compass; minimap; waypoint indicator; guiding light; highlighting items; a more linear design; objectives broken up into sub-objectives, each with a marker visible through objects (like walls). If the remade were to be done in as closely to 1:1 to the original, I would've been fine with it, but it will most likely to be "updated to modern standards" or something similar.

    • @DfactorLongplays
      @DfactorLongplays  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Making a 1:1 game would be impossible purely from a design standpoint. Those safety nets exist because of severe graphical and technological advancements of video games. The way things were back is that you take a look over the primitive level geometry and it would be rather clear what the playing field was and what you could do. In modern games there's severe density of information thrown in player's face in terms of visuals, geometry and objects. Having no net means that you'd be always searching for a needle in a haystack and that doesn't sound good.

    When I played this the first time I spent like 30 hours on that mansion I was like 6 years old.. then I figured out how to get to the main game. I was so scared at all times. The first monkeys were fine I spent hours trying to find that first switch, then when I got to that first tiger I closed my ps1 and left this game at my parents shelf and never touched it again. Today I'm 25 and that game is still in that same shelf in my parents house. Might go get that and my old ps2 and finally finish this game.

    I would honestly love to see them remake this game exactly as it was but with 2022 quality graphics because it was such an enjoyable (and difficult) game to complete with such creative and fun environments, yet it wasn't overwhealming or stuffed full of silly gimmics. It was just complex enough to challange you and no more. The visuals were good for the time and the musical elements were and still are superb.

    They should remaster all the Tomb Raider classics for PS4 in such a great graphic in High Definition, That would be so awesome. I honestly never got to play Tomb Raider 2 and 3 as a kid. I bought the very first one on sale at Sam's Club for the first PlayStation I had, and the moment I was playing it I knew I had already loved it. My favorite has got to be Underworld and definitely Shadow. I've played Legend and that was fun too and I never got to play Angel of Darkness either. I am truly a fan, right now I'm finishing up playing Shadow which I'm not gonna lie is amazing. In my opinion, better than Rise. I think I'll just go on the PSN and download this and play it finally!

      Yes underworld was stunning and shadow is the only real TR game from the new trilogy. But man the first 5 are classics. They hardly aged the design is flawless. Honestly with new textures they could still be very modern. The controls were clunky yet very precise.

      The old one has amazing atmosphere. The graphics and texture maybe feel outdated today but the design, lighting, spooky atmosphere makes it very appealing. After Tomb Raider 5 the atmosphere and design of TR games gotten way inferior but the texture improved. Also they dumbed down the complications too. From tomb raider legend it became too easy. I still remember it was prestige among us who can finish the tomb raider 4 fast back in school. There were no walk through and if you stuck then you got stuck unless you find a way. The game was problem solving type and very puzzling. Now its very straightforward like uncharted games.

    For Tomb Raider 2, they made minor tweaks to the game engine. Smoothing out Laura's body and making her move her Ponytail freely, while improving the A.I. as well. For Tomb Raider 3, they made vast improvements while adding new graphical features such as Color Lighting, smoke when coming from the barrels of the gun. the water ripple that looks much better than the original and using triangular polygons. Laura now has some moves besides the midair roll and side wall climbing. She can now crouch and crawl into tight spaces and has a speed boost for a limited amount of time which comes in handy and ceiling hand to hand climbing.
