      I disagree on the cost effective part.
      I AM a PC builder and I self build all my PCs, but Origin's new small form factor PC you see here is so incredible in value, I cannot build a PC so small and so powerful at the price they're selling for.

    • @nutty4258
      @nutty4258 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      aohige I've never moved my PC once I plugged it in, as I assume most people are set up at their own desks/setups. That's why I didn't consider the size. I suppose if you go to LANs it would be really beneficial, or if you had limited space. That's all the benefits I can come up with, for the added price of having a smaller rig.

      Pistol Pete I'm with you on that. Node did a video on build vs. Buy and I have zero interest in building, I actually hate computers in general, but love gaming. I bought a £600 gaming pc which was a beast, have 24/7 customer support which was really helpful and have slowly upgraded it myself.

    sooo... if my beloved Node guys whom i watch every single day are in the holiday giving spirit to give the old 2016 comps to a military airman who didn't get to spend christmas with family or didn't get any presents this year while overseas on tour in japan, I would probably cry, to be honest. I love you guys and have been watching, since the beginning even before frieddiew was rocketjump. Keep up the good work and videos.

    I spend a year to save up 3000 dollar for my setup. I spend 2-3 month to watch tutorials and researching. And it only took me one day to build a PC that is well cable managed and overclocked. So IMO, the only circumstance that you should consider a "professional" build PC is when you want a modded pc or a very complex costume watercool one(just in case you are lazy and do not want to design the loop or you have no confidence on yourself to handle a costume watercool pc).

      Kever So what is it dressed as?

  • @Houdini111
    @Houdini111 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Note about loading times. The two major factors are the following: The speed of the drive and the speed of the CPU. You have to have a fast drive for obvious reason. If you don't have a fast CPU, your computer won't be able to make use of the fast speed of the drive.

    • @CxOrillion
      @CxOrillion 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Houdini111 That's true, but CPU has a lot less to do with it. By the time you CPU is a bottleneck in your load time, it's already out of specs for the game anyway. CPUs are more likely to be bottlenecks doing video rendering and gameplay of CPU-heavy games like ArmA than load times, to any noticeable degree

    • @Houdini111
      @Houdini111 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      CxOrillion Sure, the biggest difference is the drive, by far. But don't discount the CPU. You overexaggerate how little of a difference it makes.

    Did a test: a GTX1080, a 1TB M.2 SSD, and an i7 6700K in the small PC case: minimum 3000$ ! You can buy those components and build the PC yourself saving around 1000$ for that build. Noooo thanks !

      Did you see the "professional" overclock option? It cost like 75 dollars.... The only reason I ever consider to buy a pc from origin is because their case is cool..

    the m.2 drive is only faster if it's an NVMe SSD

    • @Xenrel
      @Xenrel 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** A regular m.2 SSD is good if you don't have much space for a 2'5 SATA SSD, if your motherboard has an m.2 slot, it's great to have an m.2 SSD for your system, since normal m.2 SSDs are about the same price as SATA

    • @YukariYakumo0
      @YukariYakumo0 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually a good m.2 SSD will be faster period, it's just that NVMe allows for more simultaneous iops (many thousands to millions of operations for an NVMe drive), AHCI m.2 SSDs are still faster than a regular SSD (I have one that does 2Gbps easily whereas SATA3 is limited to 600Mbps per drive max), but they won't be able to handle quite as many simultaneous operations (still a few thousand iops at least).
      Unless your often dealing with transfers of lots of small files, it isn't needed. Games will still load faster than a normal SSD along with normal applications.

    • @igneousifreet9204
      @igneousifreet9204 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vulcan there are tons of gpu makers... the 1080's beeing top of the line. so if they send you something this expensive ofcourse you'd thank then. and amd is mainly for cheaper builds as nvidia is quite expensive

    • @IdealIdeas100
      @IdealIdeas100 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      um no, Nvidia and AMD are the only GPU makers. They just release their plans to manufacturers to make the cards for them.

    • @zackeryhardy9504
      @zackeryhardy9504 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AMD's are also good for password cracking and are much better in a lot of non-gaming scenarios, but since Nvidia has the most games optimized for them, gaming works better with Nvidia while most software (cad/cam/hacking software/video rendering/etc)

      I just got back from the build a custom PC area on Origin. I went with the recommended settings just to see what it would come out to. It came out to $4,668. I'd have to work a third job for 2 more years to have that much disposable income.

      For $1000 I built my rig, which has a 980, FX-9590, and 16GB of RAM. This was all before the Pascal cards launched. Pre-builts are nice because you don't have to worry about cable management and RMA on individual parts because you have a warranty on the whole setup, but it comes at a premium.

    Running i7-6700K here and it does literally everything I want it to. But why put the games on the M.2 and the OS on the SATA SSD? I'd put the OS on the M.2, as having the OS booting/running as fast as possible makes _everything else_ faster.
    That said, if you _really_ want a small PC and don't need a dedicated graphics card, Intel's Skull Canyon NUC is a beast - I have one for a media center PC in my living room and it'll stream true 4K (4096x2160) at 60FPS, and it's about the size of a _book_.

    I'm not an amd fanboy, but they make great gpus. They have relive, which is basically the same as shadowplay. (Onboard video encoding and everything)
    Competition is key, if everyone is buying nvidia they will push the prices up knowing people will still buy them even though they have worse value.
    Anyway, they don't have anything competing with the 1080, so there was really nothing else you could have gotten. It's just that mindset that makes a hardware enthusiast kinda mad :D

    • @freedomsflame688
      @freedomsflame688 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is that the majority of games are built around proprietary Nvidia tech, which kills the competition. I firmly believe in market competition to keep companies honest, but at this point, you really can't buy anything other than Nvidia if you want the best performance. Thankfully CPUs are still fairly close and are more a matter of power efficiency vs price when it comes to comparing Intel to AMD respectively. I personally use AMD because I don't mind investing in a good cooler and getting high performance for cheaper. The FX-9590 is a beast.

    • @OddlyIncredible
      @OddlyIncredible 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as GPUs go, this is the skinny:
      Nvidia GPUs are almost always better for gaming than their AMD equivalents. Even with supposedly matching specs, the Nvidia GPUs will eke out some framerate gains. One of the more frequently cited reasons for this are drivers, as AMD likes to break things with driver releases.
      However, in terms of raw performance for other things like parallel computing (e.g., OpenCL apps for things like CAD/CAM, simulations, or various other engineering-related tasks), AMD GPUs usually outperform their Nvidia equivalents in terms of raw processing power. When Bitcoin mining was a thing, AMD Radeons were more popular than Nvidia Geforces because their could number-crunch faster at a given price point and power consumption.
      Finally, integrated GPUs. Ah, integrated GPUs. Gamers almost universally pan integrated GPUs even though decent ones have begun to emerge into the market space and better and better ones are planned for processors over the next couple years. Basically, gaming != integrated, but integrated will likely be fine for almost everything else you'd use a PC for.

    Okay so I love your guys's videos but cmon guys your hardware explanations..
    1. I don't know where you saw that a 6700k wasn't powerful but they have the strongest single core performance available. And quite strong multi core.
    2. M.2 drives are only significantly faster if they are NVME SSDs that's connect through an M.2 slot on a motherboard. These slots us either a SATA connection or a PCIe which of course, PCIe is faster.
    3. You thanked EVGA for the motherboards but the big cases has ASUS MAXIMUS VIII Hero's and the little one had an ASUS MINI ITX PRO GAMING.
    This wasn't meant to be mean or put you guys down more of constructive criticism so that you guys can make good hardware choices :) thank you!

      Anim Bron-E I guess maybe, but it's still expensive. The PC they've got cost like 2500$ and 1500$ is still a lot for me lol. I would say close to a 1000$ would be more affordable for me, or even less.

      Drop down to an i5-6600k(i5-6500 or 6400 for more savings) & a Nividia 1070(or 1060 for even more savings)(or for the AMD side RX 480)
      90% of people don't need an i7 and the 1080 is only really useful if you plan to play at 4k 30FPS.

      I made a decent one for about 750 dollars. It isn't entirely vr ready, but can play most titles at ultra, and can do newer titles at high. It ain't too bad. Just look around.

      The more you spend on a PC, the longer it will last.
      K series CPU only and get a 1070.
