  • When you want to go camping, The Natchez Trace Parkway is a great place. It starts in Natchez, Mississippi and ends in Nashville, Tennessee - a fabulous linear 444-mile park chocked full of historical stops along its route - perfect for a motorcycle ride! This was our first experience of hopping on a deliberately planned linear road, devoid of stop signs and stop lights and riding it all the way to its end - and WOW - were we hooked.

I always tell my wife “never take your helmet off until you get off” “ always put your helmet on before you get on” . She is like why do you insist on this.. well if you face plant going on or off your head is protected. And she learned that lesson a month ago when her foot got caught and she fell. Her hear hit the pavement but Thank God she had her helmet on.

I was taught mounting a bike like that by a NYS Trooper, make sure your front is turned all the way to the left, and to apply the front brake, so the bike doesn’t roll forward while mounting!

I live in Natchez Trace Village in Madison, MS. and our neighborhood backs up to the Trace.... We have an adv / walking trail in the back of the neighborhood that comes out on the Trace across from Reservoir. I RIDE it almost everyday. It never gets old.... such a peaceful, beautiful ride every time. Thankful I have this little piece of paradise less than a 1/2 mile from my house!! I am glad you discovered it too, and shared it with the rest... I did suggest it to you guys a while back, but you may have already ridden it by then, not knowing how your videos are released etc? That was GOOD !! Be safe !!😄

As a Mississippian who lives 15 miles from the Trace Bridge crossing of the Tn River, I can tell you flatboats came south on the Ms River and the crews and owners walked back north on the Trace after selling their wares and boats. Merriweather Lewis died on the Trace. Read "The Devil's Backbone". Andrew Jackson also traveled the Trace, I believe. I may wave at you from my '99 Magna. Be safe.

except now to sleep in the dirt in a state campground you have to have a credit card and in most cases, especially on a weekend 24 hour reservation. its the shitty world we live in. you cat pull up to a spot, pay cash and sleep. thats why i end up boondocking almost every night now and its just not as enjoyable. so this year i traveled very little. the days of freedom on the road are comming to an end.. that is unless youve got a big chucking account and you know exactly where you'll be every night. so....

Thanks for this video. The wife and I are planning jumping on the trace from the far south and heading to Tupelo then cutting across to Clarksdale to go to Ground Zero. This was very helpful. PS, I Love arriving at a camp ground and no one is there.

    Hey chris ,
Right decision to get back on the Harley subscribed back to the channel.
It does matter that you ride a "Harley" and does not matter anything else you ride 😉
Looking forward for your great videos.

Hi Rich, you recommend a bike cover that compacts nicely. I need a new cover for my 2018 Goldwing. What cover do you recommend? Thank you so much.

Good morning guys you make this videos very entertaining!!!Ill really like them and the research and the story’s behind the scenery, the entire series have been very good.
I have missed a few chapters and don’t know what happened to the truck and the caravan, but I’m glad they are a feature no more, and that you have gone back to light camping, don’t take that light to seriously.
I think you learned from the dinosaurs, they were grown to big, complacent, and way no, please let me say it, to stupid.
Congratulations on getting back to the bikes, for certain on shorter loops, yes, but it’s good seeing you again!!!

The Natchez Trace was the first federal Highway, even though it was a dirt trail for much of it. I rode it in the 80's and never saw a single police officer. It's a nice road, very level compared with the surrounding roads. It kind of spoils one. But watch out for wild life. I almost got nailed by a gliding Turkey. It passed in front of my windshield about 3 feet. I didn't have time to react. Probably have cameras and ticket by mail now. Near Jackson is where it got hairy by locals using it for a short cut. They didn't go 50. At least one of the Civil War landmarks I stopped at along the Parkway had a very creepy feeling about it.

They are closing sections to repair and repave the road. Just following the detour signs if you do. Plan ahead for gas stops. Watch for animals. They have unmarked patrol vehicles. Be wary of who you may encounter at some of the pull offs especially between Jackson, MS and Tupelo, MS.

---- y'all skipped the best site on the lower Trace - first, the Grand Village of the Natchez with its mounds in the city of Natchez and then Emerald Mound at about mile 10 of the Trace - you have to leave the actual Trace for a short distance, but well worth it - Emerald Mound is the 2nd largest Native American mound in the US - it is massive. For some reason it is illegal to fly kites there - don't know why: I'd think the Native Americans who had lived there would have thought kites were absolutely wonderful. While y'all were there at Rocky Springs on the Original Trace y'all missed your best chance at getting a World Class case of poison ivy - stuff is half the size of elephant ears in that area ( only mild exaggeration )

I remember when I first went to Natchez, it was the first Fall Pilgramage. My wife and I had a great time, Natchez has some great things to see. We drove up the Trace until we got to the birthplace of Elvis. I think it was 1975 or 76. Much of the trade before steamboats was by flat boats that were built along the Ohio River and when they got to Natchez they either sold the boats for lumber of just abandoned them and went back by the Trace. Beautiful drive, no commercial traffic.

Where U all camped at the last spot that was free, the birds singing in the back ground were finches my favorite birds. I know spring has come when I here them singing. Their song is different from any other bird. I want to record their song and put it on my cell when it rings. No one will know what is happening. HA! HA!
God bless and stay safe out there. Russ & Keira (my dog) HA! HA!

You guys might want to consider updating your laptop to a newer model with Solid-State Hard Drive, instead of the old rotating disk style. The newer drives will handle the vibration of riding in your top box without any special padding…. Just a good protective sleeve. This would eliminate all the pool floaties

As a 68 year old dude, I've started mounting my Road King from the right side using the foot board while pulling in the front brake lever. So much easier than swinging my leg over the seat from the left especially with a rider's back rest.

for the laptops and vibrations, my solution was to get one of the harbor freight knockoffs of a pelican case, and then bolted that to my top box bolts on my tiger 900. that case comes with internal padding that's pretty good, and i keep all of my electronics-related stuff in that.
