I might just be speaking for myself, but I love to hear Jams’ in depth thought process behind difficult storyteller choices!

Hundred percent agree; her style is different than most, and I've come to really enjoy her walking us through the whole process.

I think that when you have a Spy, using the Mayor bounce twice is fair. In the case where the kill bounces, the evil team forfeits the ability to choose the kill, but gains the advantage of learning more info (ie, they likely targeted the mayor). Basically, they're trading kill security for information. In this case, they're not targeting the mayor to learn more info, but to snipe out a powerful role that they know can be protected.
It's a hard choice, but when you have 4 evil and a Spy in a 10 player game, I think the game would have been much too easy for Evil if you let the Mayor kill go through on the second try.

In a game with a soldier and a mayor, and no source of poison, evil has very little chance of winning.

Evil knowingly targeting a mayor and forcing the ST to decide, I think they forfeit the right to complain if it goes badly for them.

This, 100%. Especially as they didn't seem to be trying to off the mayor, they were expecting the bounce and just giving the decision away. With a spy in play, there's no need to give away the decision.

I felt so bad for Claire in this game, having to actually come out and confront Amy Rose about literally talking over her during a nomination that Amy Rose wasn't even a part of. I recognize that the kind of lulzy chaos gremlin playstyle that both Amy Rose and Patters play to is something that other people in their games enjoy, but I really hope that Amy Rose works on toning down her showboating behaviors, as there are a lot of more socially polite players who often feel like they get sidelined so that Amy Rose can entertain herself.

"im pretty sure we have three evils alive, i mean, what, did they kill both outsiders themaelves when they're both evil? Thats ridiculous."
Ah, i see, evil has won. 😁🍿

I really don't like using a mayor bounce twice just to keep evil from winning. They played a great game and deserved to have a very high chance (but not guaranteed) of winning.
I think letting it go through the second time would be a more fair choice, regardless of whether it was the most balanced.
Irrespective of this very tough decision, I really love Jams' storytelling and her overall style, especially that she tries to avoid situations that aren't fun for players.

I have thoughts! But first off, let me start by saying I think the hand Jams was dealt when deciding the mayor bounces was really rough, and don't really have a complaint about those choices at the time.
That being said, 4 evils in a 10 player game is insanely stacked against the good team, and really shouldn't be a possibility. Doubly so when the evil team has a spy to control the narrative throughout the game. If the evil team had executed the mayor instead of trying to kill them in the night, there would be nothing the storyteller could do to keep evil from running away with it.
As for the mayor bounces, it bothers me that mayor bounces ended up being basically forced to prevent evil from running away with it, despite the demon explicitly stating they knew they were targeting the mayor. Twice. I'm of the opinion that a known mayor shouldn't get the benefit of a bounce unless it's a spy game. This was a spy game, but the only way to bypass the bounce was to get them executed.
So yeah, the game itself was fine, it was just the setup that had issues. Still fun to watch though!

Can someone explain the reasoning of the imp to knowingly attack the mayor in this situation? It feels strange to give up your ability to choose who dies.

    • @malvinafis6907

Some reasons I could think of:
      1. Maybe they hoped it would go through since the mayor ability states "may"
2.usually storytellers are more inclined to let a kill on a mayor go through later if the demon tried more than once
      3. They don't really have any other option to get rid of the extra win condition of the mayor if they feel like the mayor was socially trusted with no poisoner in play

If you feel like your evil team is losing badly, then relying on the ST to balance can be a good option, but that's only when you don't have a spy and you don't know the grim. If you know the grim, I think you should make your own choices.
Having said that, I support players playing their own way, maybe he had a reason that made sense to him and his preferences.

@@malvinafis6907this covers it a lot. The evil team couldn’t poison the mayors ability away so they had to hope a kill got through.

The only thing I dislike with most story tellers and mayor the word "might" means that there is a chance, most story tellers make it 95% off bouncing. I usually flip a coin to see if it bounces or not as tbh its a townfolk ability that may activate not always activate...

The way I've been doing it is making it bounce nearly 100% of the time in the first couple days, but significantly less likely towards the end of the game. I'll also almost never bounce it more than once in a game - my understanding of that part of the ability is that it's just meant to make it more likely the mayor actually gets to the final 3 where the ability can do something.
