      @philmoore96 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      I had a mechanic tell me that I "absolutely had to have some repairs done or [my] car would collapse on the road." It was nearly a complete overhaul of everything holding the tires on. At the time I did decline repairs mostly due to the costs and there was no noises or anything giving a cause for concern. It was about 4-5 years before I got around to it while the entire time it was in the back of my mind since I drove the car every day. The (different) mechanic I took it to for the job said that the problems were never as bad as the first shop said and not even half of the work I was told about would actually need to be done.
      But these people that have obviously falling apart vehicles are next level and I can only imagine where they ended up.

      Ask my ex-step daughter. She drove one of my vehicles for a year. Never complained (she didn’t talk much to me). I had to move it one afternoon and there was a tremendous grinding noise. She had worn thru the left front brake rotor!
      “How long’s it been doing that?”
      About 6 months. I didn’t want to bother you - besides I only drive 2 miles to my bff Cindy’s house.”
      That’d when I learned that there are different Laws of Physics for 17 year old girls.
      But, I so upset her by yelling at her for ruining the brakes that she decided on her career path. She decided to go to law school so she could sue me for MAL-STEP-PARENTING!
      Well, she did graduate from U-M undergrad, then law school.
      Never sued me, though. I think she found she could make way more money getting driver’s licenses back for drunk drivers.

    Just smear some grease on the stuff and they go away with a story about how you tried to rip them off and hopefully never return.

    The guy mocking the customer for wanting oil and oil filter replaced on a electric motor should have been the customer. Electric motors do have oil and oil filters that need to be changed, even if once every 10 years.

    My dad ran a lumber mill/yard for decades. One day this guy came in driving a quite new F-150, they got to talking and this truck was down on power. The guy had taken it to 3 different dealerships and shops. My dad went right to the air filter and it was clogged full of dirt. People just don't know simple things about engines, including mechanics. It took a lumber-man to fix it.

    I brought my dd in and had it checked over and they found a bunch of aged bushings in the steering and suspension. I declined repairs and drove away. Did all my own work by the book. Torque to factory spec and I only use oem fluids. I was trained by great teachers and most shops dont meet my standards for detail. Local shop was replacing my mother in laws brake caliper BRACKETS every year. They didnt ever grease the pins. I replaced a bracket for her and when i found out they did that corner _again_ i made sure to do them when they failed again. They decreased the pins I greased... I made her dump that con shop.

    Doesn’t the mechanic reserve the right to not allow a car to be on the road if there are legitimate safety concerns? Like disintegrating brakes, or a rotting frame?

    • @ouch1011
      @ouch1011 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Nope, only in states that have road worthiness inspections (which is very few). Trying to keep a customer from taking their car as long as their bill is paid is actually illegal and the shop/mechanic could face legal trouble for that, even if the car is a death trap.

    Living in California my whole life I can't fathom how rust gets that bad. We don't really get snow and we don't salt the roads. So our cars don't rust, but we do have to deal with the worst politics, so there's that.

  • @JonathanBush1984
    @JonathanBush1984 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Southern techs have to deal. Rust happens and you have to weld or replace. I've got old cars left outside up here and they are PA inspected and on the road. will it fall apart? Maybe. Am I going to run them? Hell yes! Merry Christmas and happy holidays.
