Foolish Baseball (on Day 2 of his punishment): Good morning! Time to trade away some 2.5 star arb eligible players FB (Day 15): still cutting salary :) FB (Day 92): trade deadline day again FB (Day 324): Let's get that 40 Ks/60 pwr bat FB (Day 700): Let's get that 40 Ks/60 pwr bat FB (Day 9203): Let's get that 40 Ks/60 pwr bat
Honestly, im glad Foolish pretty much tore down a good portion of yhe roster during the offseason and is trying something new. Last season was just so bad that it was the only real option. I think if he can build on this offseason with some strong trades during the deadline (probably trade Shimizu for some good prospects) than the future could be bright. The only move I didnt like was getting rid of Caminiti, J was very high on him, and I was rsther disappointed when he got traded away.
I think he made some really good moves this episode, but with a team like the A's I think the team is never going to be a contender unless you hardcore invest into dev/scouting and go full-on team control basically. Signing Tovar was a brutal move
@@josh1273436 I don't think anyone thought Tovar was a good move, even Foolish sounded depressed when he announced the signing lmao. He needs to forget about free agency and all in on development for sure
@@nate_storm he could have been more than just reliable, definitely could have been a top two guy in the rotation. I can already see it from a mile away, termarr is going to be mid and the other pitcher he got from the pirates is going to regress or something. Classic Bailey.
I like the look of the team this year! I also really hope you spend more money on development and scouting, especially because you always seem to note players not turning out the way they should and prospects you don't care about being valued really highly in trade discussions. Maybe that means other teams have bad scouts, but it's not like your scouting has uncovered any serious steals. I hope you keep your proven hitters around for team control reasons and invest more into development so you can have your prospects come into their own. John Fisher isn't ever going to change his tune so you really have to go Moneyball 2 on them. One tip to note is you seem to have figured out there's a huge difference between 45 CA stats and 50 CA stats, and while I think that's true across the board this year, it also speaks to a scout who isn't really doing what he needs to do which is accurately assess talent. There's likely guys who are being overvalued by your scouting team that end up way underperforming because of 45 being the "quad A" rating and 50 being the "2-war guy, easy!" rating this year. Scouts are much cheaper than two months of Ezequiel Tovar with a team option that will inevitably be declined.
Star rating makes way more sense and makes the game more pleasing to look at, and require more attention to detail. If you play 20-80 you are playing on baby mode as you can just watch that. Comparing different 2.5 stars trying to imagine who’d be better is way more realistic
But I cannot understand why Foolish makes the worst moves in free agency, he literally signs the only people I would be specifically avoiding if I wanted to bolster the lineup short-term. Absolutely no clue what thise moves were about.
Basically signing anyone but incredibly cheap 1-year deals with the state of his team (some developing cost controlled pieces but overall not a contender) is a terrible move. No idea why he signed Tovar to essentially (I believe he needs to pay both years of the buyout assuming he voids the option years?) a 19m 1-year deal when he clearly is a 2-2.5 WAR player now
@@josh1273436 yeah not only did he overpay him but he's also injured so he basically just burnt money. It's going to end up just trading him at the deadline for some terrible prospects that never pan out, and it's going to be the same thing as always.
Instead on non-tending guys, try trading them to other teams for cash or guys who are being paid the league minimum! Shortstops with high defensive ratings usually have high value in the CPU's eyes. For example, Noah Miller could be traded for an RP on the minimum and additional cash. One less bullpen arm that you'll have to sign in FA and money to put towards development or draft budget.
Yeah hes too obsessed with stats and single year performance, hes not investing in any players just turning people around and getting the same results.
Extend Owen Murphy and trade him, hes cheap! You're going to have to spend money at some point on players. You're getting too obsessed with stats too. Giving up on Griffin so early is a headscratching move.
Judging by all the negativity in the comments, apparently this episode is the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of the way everyone is viewing this save
for example, Frank Trejo doesn’t make much sense for your team since he has below 50 HRA. He led the league in giving up the most homers. That’s the one thing your fielders can’t control
As a Pirates fan, I love to see you bringing in Jones and Johnson. They definitely have a better chance of winning a World Series with the A's than with Bob Nutting's penny pinching Pirates
They affect team morale over the course of the season, which affects individual player morale, which affects performance. Unless you just win a lot; winning cures everything. There's also events it affects and I'm pretty sure there's a bunch of minor nuances with it too with smaller secondary effects, but that's the short of it.
Piggybacking off of what TK7 said, it's also really important for development (and for financial reasons, when it comes to things like Financial Ambition)
You think that you brew on this team enough? It sure must nice up in the front office with all the job security in the world while us fans have waited 10 years to see the postseason. 10 years without any superstar talent, no true aces, and no hope. I’m tired of trying to recreate moneyball with horrible hitters that cant even defensively make up for our poor starting rotation.

I am once again asking Bailey to take the money he spends on Free Agency every year and chuck it into player development/scouting
Agreed. He has a lot talent down in the minors that barely develops. Then the talent gets traded after getting to the majors for half a season.
And stop trading fringe 2.5 star players.

Surely, he will get some home grown talent to the mlb, and they wont strike out 200+ times, right?
To be fair that's how pro sports work for most of the teams, especially the A's 🤷
