It's funny how starting in a more challenging position one stops carring for fashion as much. After I starter univeristy the amount of stuff I had to carry and the distancies I had to walk in the city made me wear flats and carry backpacks everywhere

It's interesting that as a student, medics don't deal with Amoxycillin or encounter about the practice of medicine as much as the academic minutia. In pharmacy, we have to work 400 hours by the end of our degree, so I'm a second year pharmacy student and have worked out doses of Amoxycillin just yesterday, actually. I think when syllabi integrate at least some work experience into the degree, it helps the students a lot. Here in South Africa, I know that student doctors need to have work experience as well. It's the same with nurses, dentistry, PT and OT. It surprised me to hear about the pre-med, residency and all that other stuff that goes on in America. The practices around the world are quite different, but I'm really grateful to have learnt so much from this channel. 😊

Not taking the path to being a doctor, but I absolutely love the way you go through life, Jamie. I'm taking a course and a path which is a necessity to help my family even though it means sacrificing what I really want to do. It's super challenging for me but listening to your own challenges, your viewpoints and mindset on taking on those challenges, I feel motivation, human and inspired to continue. ^_^ Thank you, Jamie ★

For a person who is doing emergency medicine, you have such a calm demeanour and it's so relaxing to watch someone explain this information in a collected manner. I aspire to be like you and I live by that. I am in my final year before I graduate from high school and because of the pandemic, it's been a stressful time for me as it would be for many others. I have very important exams at the end of the year and I need to get such a high score it's so nerve-wrecking. If you have any tips for an anxious final year student, it would be very much appreciated. I hope you see this 😭

It's really amazing that you love it so much that the 12 hour shifts don't even seem like that :) I do see a lot of doctors at work carrying backpacks, so don't feel weird about it! I am a doctor , i live in Turkey, when i was in the last year, we worked 24 hours in a day, 10 times in a month. It is so beautiful that you have sparkles in your eyes but i guess i dont have them anymore. I am so much tired all the time, i can't spend much time with my family and friends, i barely can find time to spend with myself. All of my friends have psycolohical problems, nearly all of my friends using antidepressants . I am such a pessimist i know but it's hard not to these days... but i love medicine and all the things that thought me along the way, but sometimes i just ask myself "Does it worth it?" Does it worth all sleepless night, stress, headaches, medicines that i use everday to stand up ; does it worth staying away from your all loved ones? I guess everbodys answer is for themselves; i work for residency exam and all i want is peace.

I really appreciated the tidbit about switching from your purse/bag to a backpack! I keep wondering which I should use (I'm entering my senior year of undergrad in the fall) and I never know which kind of bag I want to use. It makes me feel better knowing someone I look up to as a med student (graduate!) and still classy and feminine is also using a backpack

Hey Jamie! I'm a 2nd grade medicine student, I discovered you like a couple months ago (with the study sesions) and since that the pomodoro has been always my secure way to study, it's funny that even I'll get my eyes surgery as you did, and I'm excited about it (and I'm also nervous). However this year I also start my service at the hospital, learning (a little bit) about the things there, and that'll be my first hospital contact as a medical student so yeah... I'M SUPER NERVOUS. I love the way you organize and use your time, since I discovered you my mom also says that you remind her about me (even the way you re-organize your house), haha. I hope to see more about your experiences! Greetings from Yucatán, México!

Glad you are settling in, Jamie! Totally agree that the hardest adjustment was the shift in focus towards clinical medicine. Which is a good thing for MS4s to start thinking about as they approach Match Day. It is awesome to have a list of differentials and a host of treatment options in your mind but it would be better to start coming up with the treatment plans themselves. Keep up the great work! - Mike

Do you have any tips for preparing for intern year, or things you wish you had known before starting? Would you recommend brushing up on any study materials after months of no studying/patient interactions, or recommend just relaxing before intern year begins?
