Issa is Somali clan. And no, Djiboutians are actually more close to Somalia than Ethiopia.
Negatory on the closer to Somalia than Ethiopia part. You might be thinking of the semi autonomous region of Somaliland; even still, you're talking about tribal relations and not economic. Don't forget that Issa only make up half of the country.
+Owen Somalia and Djibouti not only share the same ethnic group with Somalia but also history, culture, bilateral relations, etc. A lot Djiboutian men and women fight along Somalia side during the Ogaden war. Somalia also supported Djibouti independence. Even Djibouti's first president (Hassan Guleed Aptidon) was born in northern Somalia. Him and Mahmoud Harbi were pan-Somalist. They wanted to unite ethnic Somali-land as one country. The current Djibouti's president also received training from the Somali National security service.
+Owen the Issa clan may make up half of the country's population but all ethnic Somali clans make up more than 65%. Don't forget the Gedabuursi and the Isaaq clans are also ethnic Somalis. The number of Ethnic Somalis actually grew for the last 25 years, considering a lot of them from Somalia settled in Djibouti. I would actually say more than 80% of Djibouti's population are ethnic Somalis !
Urban Nomad
like I said, "you're talking about tribal relations and not economic."
+Owen do you even know the meaning of "bilateral relations" ? Tf that includes economic too.
Just wanna say how impressed I am Barby with the consistent quality well done keep it up
And that's why I love this channel. Any normal person outside of Africa has no idea what this tiny little country is like. And here you show us how successful this small country is with such little resources. And they are investing so much into education. Really smart. Djibouti just became my favorite African country. ...actually, it already was beforehand because I like small countries. But now that I know how it rules in da house, I like it even more :)
MOODMAN MODMAN
And you probably are the most knowledgable and unbiased person in the world right? to your interest, he contacts people FROM THOSE COUNTRIES to get first-hand information. He also shows his sources at the end of each country's episode.
So get your stupid ignorance out of here. It's not welcome.
thank you
+MOODMAN MODMAN since you know so much, why didn't you send some informations instead of talking nonsense in your broken English ?
I can't believe that the d in Djibouti is silent, and talks only about the "bouti"
I'm so messed up

It's French. J is just an 's' in vision, so a D is needed to make it 'j' in jam.

Barby, it would make more sense to say 60% of Djibouti are Somali (most of whom are from the Issa clan). Not all of that 60% is Issa (there are sizable minorities from other clans). It would have made more sense to just say Somali, instead of Issa.
Anyways, Issa (and other Somali clans) people speak Somali, and Afar people speak Afar. Neither of these languages were mentioned in the video. By the way its Somali, not Somalian.
JAMACAD DA UMMAD DA why you have problem. take care of somalia we djbouti are fine.

Hahaha good one, but the plates run through the danakil depression in neighbouring Ethiopia, about 200 million years from now, Ethiopia is going to file for divorce on poor old Djibooti, which will become a separate island.
The tectonic plates are the reason there is a giant split in Djibouti.

Bro don’t be totally fooled as a Djiboutian citizen I can tell you that this country is more a dictatorship then a democracy, only stupids and imbeciles can have authority, just cause they are from the clan of the President.
Wait a minute how did u saw my djibouti

Also, this is the only African nation that starts with a silent letter

+Felixir Guy •n•
in French "dj" is pronounced like a single "j" in English, so the "d" (no pun intended) isn't silent
+Cryp Tic The English "j" (and sometimes the "g") actually represents two sounds. A "d" sound followed by a "pure j" sound (the French "j")
Im from Djibouti and the 60% of people called Issa are not an ethic group but are Somali and the Name Issa is a Somali clan that lives in Northern Somalia and Djibouti

I'm from Djibouti 🇩🇯 and I 'm Somali. In Djibouti we speak Somali language.
Es-tu de nationalité somalienne ou djiboutienne ?
Deko Qalif then why isn't somali one of your national languages?
No, French
Sarina Alexa National languages aren't accurate most of the time. Like even in Somalia their national languages are Somali and Arabic. I've never met anyone that spoke any Arabic. It's more of a religious thing. And also for Djibouti French is the national language because they where colonised by the French. The majority of Djibouti speaks Somali and afar (...I know I got that last on wrong).
fethimafr dude what is djiboutinne? people in Djibouti are somalis that does not mean you are from somalia get it ❤️Love My people somalis ❤️

Yeah, the relationship between Your Booty and Your Urethra can be complicated indeed... :p

Ertrea wants none of Djibouti.
Maybe in the Eritrea video?
I'm from Djibouti & I'd have to argue that we are only close with Ethiopia from an economic perspective. Our closest friend would have to be Somalia. The Issa you referred to isn't an ethnic group, rather a sub clan of the Somali people whom are represented by the blue section of the flag. As you mentioned, the country was titled "French Somaliland" and was actually very close to forming a union with Somalia after independence (good thing that didn't happen😳)
Agree 100% it's a business relationship and they agree on Eritrea.
I am Djiboutian or Reer Jabouti, and also I agree with you!
As a Djiboutian we must not rely on Ethiopia. Like: the new pipe water, fruit-vegetable and some electricity. we must help on this things.
Djibouti is Somalia.
+MOODMAN MODMAN Djibouti was not Somali hun if that's what u think on which book did u read abt it?

Marc Liljeqvist you get that 😂😂😂
no need to call them "issa people"... they are somali... they speak the somali language... the divide and conquer game is what got them a country...
saddiq adan are you even issa? or are one of the cancers who were enslaved by the french?
Trill Mali lol
they are issa
I don't know how you guys come to know about your clan affiliation. I'm assuming you were raised in the west or grew up in a Somali community. I was born and fed in Djibouti. People don't practice nor advocate qabiil and there isn't a clan system. Clean up your act before u embarrassed yourselves.
I wouldn't mind getting more land hahaha. Let's bring peace and stability in Somalia then we can chat all day about doing business and creating an internal single market like the European Union that applies to Djibouti and Somalia. We love you but you guys must break yourselves free from this clan system. It has brought nothing but pain and misery to the Somali people.
Djiboutians are some of the finest people I’ve ever met. I helped train their army while stationed there
They’re Somali ppl
they are somali lol we are the same people
I’m a Djiboutian I’m proud to be a Djiboutian 🇩🇯 And proud to be at the same time Issa ( a Somali clan ) I’m proud of all that alxamdulilah and for your information my best friend can’t be an Ethiopian instead of a Somali
Yeah, good for you, whatever that means lol
You have earrape anthem
I just want to ask. Do you think China help more or the French was? I heard they (the Chinese) have a military base there. I need to know locals perspective cuz the media can be biased.
🙂
@@Yawar1986 it means majority of djibouti is somali
Issa is NOT an ethnicity, it's a clan and they are ethnically Somali. They live in north western Somalia, Southern Djibouti and Somali region of Ethiopia. Official languages are French and Arabic but the majority of the population don't speak these languages daily or even fluently. The most spoken are Afar and Somali by far, with Somali being the common language. They don't have there own dialect of Somali either, it's just a slight regional difference, just how American English is slightly different to UK english. And though they have strong economic ties with Ethiopia they are much closer in culture and society to central and north Somalis (for ethnic Somalis) and Eritrea (for ethnic Afars). You also didn't mention any of the political tension going on or the fact that it's practically a dictatorship.
He didn't say Issa is an ethnicity he even said they are a somali clan. They do not live or have any lands in Northwestern somalia. somali and afar are regional languages, but are not taught in schools. French is the most common language spoken by both Issas and Afars
Couldnt have said it better!
+saddiq adan isnt somali more widespread tho? Like on the street/at home, ppl literally speak somali on a daily more than french
saddiq adan Errrrm so french is taught in schools, remind me what was the literacy rates are in Djibouti ...? Yeah thought so. List the us state department, djibouti public information and world bank statistics all say Somali and Afar are the most widely spoken languages, but hey, you can ignore statistics if you want to. It's not like they're facts. I've been to Djibouti City, I didn't hear any Arabic either.
In Djibouti City, everyone can speak French. Claiming the opposite is just a lie.

The problem is Somalis want everything for themselves.
87% of Djibouti's land is owned by ethnic Afar people. Tadjourah (Tagorri), Dekeli, Alaili Dadda, Obock, Galaafi, Yoboki are all Afar.
The issa (which is controversial Somali clan) has the Ali Sebeh province.
If Afar people establish a sovereign state in the triangle, Djibouti's 87% land mass will go to Afar while 13% will either join Somaliland or Ethiopia.
I'm comin' for Djibouti!!!

you are right for the Afar but Issa is just a clan not everyone is Issa there like 30 clans but all the clan expect afar think of themselves as Somali (I am Issa) , it s more like 60% Somalis and most people in my country will never say that Ethiopia is our best friend we prefer Somalia or France ( Ethiopia wants an access to sea). Arabic is official language just because of Islam but most people speak French, Afar or/and Somali( more Somali). Also we have a dictator. I watch your video since Andorra and I didn't miss one since. Sorry for my bad English 😃
Llama Blacksmith yes but issa are the majority in djiboutu i can say 50%of djibouti are issa 10 %are other somalis 5%arabs ethiopian and foreigners and 35 %are afars.
Theyre all Somali and I think its about 70% Somali and the rest Afar and other minorities
Sea access is kinda important if you want to have any kind of chance for success though, I get my you might not like Ethiopia, but they do need that port.

Did you know that when the French colonists first arrived, they asked a native what this place name is, yet the native didn't know French and thought the colonists were pointing at his pot, so he answered, "Djibouti" as this is the way the natives there call it "my pot". And therefore, this place was forever known to be the land of "My Pot", or Djibouti, depending on whether or not you are a Djibouti native. Also, inovation lel
you my pot

Good to know 👍
actually djibouti means “path/street of the bears“. It comes from the two somali words “jiid“(street) and “buti“ (bear).
back in the days, bears used to be common in that area and the people gave it that name, simply because of the animals living over there. Of course, they all went extinct and the only thing that remained was the name.
