    Super helpful, thank you so much!! The five words are really helping me with my commentary but I feel like using those in all my body paragraphs gets repetitive. Are there any other ways you recommend that can stretch my commentary without using the same words? Maybe different words in place of them?

      @GardenofEnglish  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When it comes to commentary, you just need to make sure you include cause-and-effect language. Truthfully, though, if you consistently use this pattern, there will be so much of your language in between these basic stems, that it won't sound as repetitive as you might think. But, if you're worried about repeated patterns, just use synonyms, or mix up the pattern while still using these words and phrases.

    Should I use this format that employs assumptions for every body paragraph?

    Would this commentary also be appropriate for the other essays? If not, what is the difference between the commentary for Analysis vs Synthesis/Argument commentary?

    • @GardenofEnglish
      @GardenofEnglish  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The basic principles are the same, but not the last movement about the audience. I have other commentary videos for the other essays, but I'll be updating them over the next few weeks

    Is it normal for a college professor to ask you to write a 6 page rhetorical analysis essay? That’s my situation, and I haven’t been in school for like 20 years so I’m finding it very challenging. Would it be helpful to use this format throughout the whole paper?

    • @GardenofEnglish
      @GardenofEnglish  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is! Besides the fact that I don't recommend you list rhetorical choices in your thesis if you are writing a multi-page (non-5-paragraph essay), you can pretty much follow these models to produce your rhetorical analysis. When you're writing a longer paper that is a rhetorical analysis, I recommend having your thesis just being a declaration of the author's purpose. I have a bunch of videos that will guide you through the whole process and even teach you how to write conclusions that don't suck.

    Hello, in the essay I am confused on who you are referring to as your audience? Is it the farm workers at the time of this essay in 1978 or readers like me in the present day who you are referring to as "Americans" ? Overall, when addressing your audience in the rhetorical analysis essay, are your addressing the audience at the time of the text or the present day? Thank you and have a good day!

    • @GardenofEnglish

      Audience at the time. Readers of maryknoll magazine and farmworkers

    Hi! I just wanted to ask two quick questions regarding the AP test. My teacher tells us to provide two examples for each rhetorical device but I only see one in your video. Is it only required to have only one example of each rhetorical device on the actual test or am I not detecting the other example? My other question is how many rhetorical devices are required for the exam? My teacher grades us on two, but for many past exam questions and your examples, I see three. Please answer my question because I am very confused.

    • @GardenofEnglish

      I'm going to answer your question for exam day, not for anything in relation to your classroom. 1) the minimum you need to produce to potentially score the highest score (if you write well) is a thesis and two body paragraphs if you address your RHETORICAL CHOICES in two different paragraphs.
      There is merit to asking students to cover two CHOICES per paragraph, because a more thorough paper will most likely be a better paper if the commentary explores how the choice projects the author's purpose.
      Do NOT confuse rhetorical devices with rhetorical choices, though related, they are not the same thing. Here's a video that explains it: th-cam.com/video/RGKs8P9QLeA/w-d-xo.html
      :)

    Thank you! Quick question (I think)..would this AMAZING paragraph model trump the need for what many of us have taught: "two pieces of evidence with commentary" per body paragraph?

  • @deshawncreary202
    @deshawncreary202 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I understand all of this, but wouldn’t you have to layer your evidence with an additional piece of evidence in order to get a 4 on part B of the rubric. I was looking at some of the AP score reports and there were periods they were saying not to describe one rhetorical choice but the how all of them developed upon one another. I just need a understanding, thanks

    • @GardenofEnglish
      @GardenofEnglish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You can do this in a layered format just the same. Also, the 4 criteria on the rubrics is that the paper explores multiple rhetorical choices. Multiple just means more than 1, so two really solid paragraphs like this works just fine. I tell my kids to have 3 body paragraphs just for some added umph! But only two are actually needed. And, you can trust me because not only am I a reader, but I'm one of the people who choose what model scores look like (and I monitor other readers for accuracy). :)
