    Two minutes later the four male lions got up and walked straight past the Land Rovers. Suddenly, like a flash, one male set off at speed into the dense bush amidst rampant thunders of aggression. Seconds later, the remaining three members of the coalition were by his side, forcing themselves onto his quarry, delighting in the savage violence they could inflict on the lone hyena.

    When these lions start to realize that jumping into a jeep is a lot easier meal than stalking hyenas, this whole bourgeois safari industry will look a lot different.

    Thank you for your response. I have learned, since my post, about the majingilanes and the mapogo coalitions on your site. Great work !!!
    Can you please give an update? Im reading alot about the mapogos getting killed off or just not around anymore.
    Are the Majingilanes still rulers of this domain?

    It depends on the surrounding lion dynamics. lion coalitions get bigger when the competition from other coalitions is stronger. 4 fully mature male lions is not uncommon, however when they reach their prime at around 7 years, they could potentially split up and secure their own territories.

    A male lion can tackle just about any land animal with the exception of a rhino. Tigers vs female lions then i would give the tigers a chance but nothing messes with a male lion hence why he is called King of the Beasts.

    From your experience would you say a lion, in general, usually only manages to gain a pride once in his lifetime or more typically multible occasions?

  • @londolozigamereserve
    @londolozigamereserve  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It really depends on the life of the lion as some male lions are born in a large pride with many brothers and are thus able to begin a successful coalition whereas other males become loners much earlier and are forced to find a pride and territory where they can be dominant and survive. It is not uncommon for a lion and lioness to be a part of more than one pride in their life.

    Read up on Notch's story from the Maasai Mara, took over a pride then he lost his pride to the usual takeovers, but only difference this time is, he managed to escape with his 4 younger sons, looked after them til they were strong enough and came back with a vengeance taking over many territories on the way. Quite a legendary lion in the Mara.

    I'm always amazed at how the lions, leopards and other predators simply ignore these vehicles. There are no doors or roof on this Land Rover and yet the lions don't seem to realize how easily they could just pluck someone out of their seat and drag them off into the bush. If a person got out and walked fifteen feet from the vehicle the lions would be all over them in no time.

    @NtoxicatedForum in japan, they put tigers and lions (and kangals for that matter) in the same cage. while these domesticated cats often get into scuffles, they do not reach the extreme of desperate battles for survival that take place in the wild. while i do not condone making animals fight...the tigers usually seem to hold thier own against the lions and sometimes look asthough they r winning. i certainly wouldn't say that 4 lions would be invincible against 4 tigers.

    I think they don't really register the trucks in a way that we do. They have spent their evolution dealing only with things on the ground so trucks don't 'fit' into their schema. I know that if a person steps from a truck to the ground that 'tells' the lion that the person IS part of the schema & something to consider as threat ,food, etc. The person is showing the lion he is part of the lions world. Hope that helps ya.

    Hyenas are the equivalent of scousers, which is why lions kill them.

  • @ScisMacGillicutty
    @ScisMacGillicutty 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nope, they're hunters who scavenge-I was going to say "like lions," but hyenas hunt/scavenge ratio is usually greater than lions, and they are more successful hunters (60% kill rate vs about 30%). Check Wikipedia.
    Hyenas also have a greater resistance to disease than lions. The more sick animals they prey on, the less disease vectors there are in an ecosystem.
    So lions hate 'em and kill 'em easily. They're a very important animal to have in an ecosystem, perhaps more important than lions.

    Is the lions familiarity with these vehicles inadvertently aiding those who drive up to poach them rather than film them? It seems to me that this is a double edged sword, in that you are sharing these images of lions with us, but you may also be helping to seal their fate in the long run.

    People are naturally barbaric. We are animals ourselves so it's natural that we want to see the struggle for life and death as the Romans did with gladiators and animals fights like people do today. It's only through understanding that these practices have been condemned by the greater population but there will likely always be some who want to satisfy their primitive urges and can't be bothered by empathy to withhold them from doing so.
