      How’s it working out for yall? I’m currently driving a 2005 Hyundai Elantra, however, my timing belt is about to go out soon and figured I might as well get a new car. The car has treated me well when I got it almost 2 years ago and I only paid $2,000 and paid additional $600 to get it fixed up. I seen a 2008 cobalt around my area for $4500 that’s in good condition and consider purchasing it.
      My situation right now; I am a full time student at a community college and a full time employee (I will become part time after this semester and try to work 20-30hr a week.) by car, my job is 3 min away and my college is 15 min away. I live with my parents and help pay my insurance (which is over $400 thanks to my reckless driving record, but I pay half) but we agreed that I will pay my own insurance for my next car, which I am more than okay with. I’ve done research on the best insurance company for me and how much coverage is necessary and how to lower it. My mom thinks I should wait till the car breaks down and just keep saving my money to get a newer and wait for the car market to go down.

    The suspension is like that on all cars 😂🤣 it’s because the engine is in the front which makes the front sit lower reason why they make leveling kits but I’m not sure if they make them for a colbalt but they make them for trucks

    My cobalt has electric windows. Bought switch twice cuz go out n won’t let u open windows. Shakes when I hit brakes and it’s not rotors. , my passenger side floor board fills with water from ac , but my cobalt gets me 30 miles per gallon and is reliable enough to put a 1700 mile trip no problem. Cobalts are ugly but if maintained properly a really good reliable little car.

    I have owned my 09 cobalt lt since new and it has given me a few issues like windows sometimes dont want to work, leaking valve cover gasket, cam position sensors went bad after 60k miles, rattling interior plastics, airbag light came on for no reason, the car is far from the best but I have always been able to resolve the issues myself with very little money and I keep up with its maintenance schedule religiously so even to this day the car runs and idles like new. Our cobalt has become part of the family and has earned the name Betty, for its 10th birthday I plan on getting her repainted and a set of SS wheels with the SS body kit, hopefully Betty is around for her 20th Birthday :3

    I would agree with your assessments. I would refine the complaint about the panel rattling behind the back seat to just the entire interior of the car in general being really noisy/loose/rattling, from engine and road as well as music. Also, the gear box - WOW it's it crunchy. Not smooth at all. Could really use a 6th gear, though I know that's WAY above this cost level. It is fun and really fast out of the gate, for it's size and cost though, so know these complaints are made taking that into account. I still feel like for what it is, this car is a lot of fun and is a good suprise👍🏼

    I just bought a 2006 cobalt ls yesterday. It was less than 4 grand with 114k miles. Everything is aftermarket on it. On my way to work right afterwards it started to have a weird feel when going 70 on the highway. Then it down shifted, the temp gauge there flashed off for a second. Then it wouldn't go back up gears. Restarted it and it worked fine. Gonna take it back to get looked at since they gave me a power train warranty

    I like my cobalt cause it's easy to fix. I hate that the battery is in the back, the guy I bought it off of didn't have the cover to the trunk, so I have to be careful what I put in it cause it can losen the battery. My son changed my alternator cause the old one blew and also blew fuses to fuel injector and fuel pump. It runs great now. Thinking of putting bigger shocks so the car will sit up higher and I could put thicker tires on for snow.

    I drove a cobalt. The steering wheel locks up when the car gets warmed up making it impossible to turn. I had this problem on a road test which I passed with flying colors. And no the cobalt wasn’t mine, it was property of the driving school I attended which wasn’t far from a Hyundai dealership. Why they didn’t go with Hyundai is beyond me because the best car I’ve ever driven is the car I bought myself . For less the. Thirteen thousand, I bought myself a 2005 Hyundai Tucson GLS, front wheel drive , with only 46, 000 miles on it. The handling is very driver friendly, great suspension and awesome stability control with a V6 engine. Sure, it’s an SUV and it eats gas but mind you for it’s age it runs really well.

      @sinformant 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quick question, how does anyone lower their cobalt without having horrible camber? I have stock springs and my car has so much camber it eats up the inside of the tires. I slotted the struts where the bolts go to gain some adjustment. I have 2" lowering springs I haven't put in because I'm afraid the camber would be horrid and I'd eat up tires even worse.

    • @manfromnantucket9544
      @manfromnantucket9544 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sinformant You must have an alignment issue. Does the car pull to one side going down a straight road?
      Also, lowering springs tend to blow out stock struts, so if you've got springs, I'd highly recommend swapping for the FE5 hardware before doing the job as they'll be stiffer and last a lot longer. Be sure to buy the '08-'10 FE5 stuff and ignore the '05-'07 years as they weren't quite as good

For the first few years of ownership I had no suspension,steering issues. The only time I had to replace tires before was because of my lead foot and they always wore evenly.the only issue I've dealt with since the first year of ownership has been the very common electrical issue these cars seem to have with the gauges dieing and other electrical systems acting whacky.

    Haha i had a cobalt once, The dome light shook like crazy, so i installed a PENNY between the clear plastic and the other part. It stayed for years lol. Upgrading your speakers in the doors is a bitch by the way. Kinda fun but basically I cut out the speakers and drilled new ones onto the old ones because the way it was mounted was really odd. It came with a broken speaker when i bought it.
    Oh and FYI if you haven't already you might want to get the ignition problem fixed, I think that was a long time ago though... but safety was a big concern for me and why i kinda got rid of it... I still see my old Cobalt on the road actually, i'm glad somebody else has it and it didn't get junked. It was overall a great budget car.

    ...the rear shelf rattles, hmmmm...why? Lets see....could it be the 2, stupid BIG thumping sub woofers under it! To play you music loud! As you said. So WE all get to enjoy the NOISE you enjoy! You love noise....you put on a FART CAN muffler, it's farting along all through this video! So you love noise. So enjoy the noise of the car falling apart from your 'improvements'. And WE all get to hear you coming.
    You bought a cheap economy car,...deal with roll up windows, the boring interior color, if you didnt want it ,you should have bought something else, one with options in it. They do have power windows, in economy cars...course it is probably gone by now.
    Go buy a great older Civic HB, and RICE it up! Is'nt that what you 'lil boys' do to Civics and anything else you drive, to make it sound like,...well,...what is it suppose to look/sound like? A Corvette?

      Im 17, looking at getting a used car. Found a 92 NA miata. Low miles, all original except new paint and soft top, and in great condition for a great price. I might pull the trigger on it just to make you happy haha. Im thinking with my extra money, new center console, forced induction (a nice one! No rice in my mazda), a hard top replacement (not a big fan of convertibles as i live in an extremely rainy area), and a short throw shifter. Maybe save up some more for new suspension and a sportier front bumper too, itd fit the extra horsepower of the turbo better. The 92 was a great year, but the front end is a little lack luster in my opinion. Nothing wrong with it, but a 150 dollar part might make it much more appealing haha. Maybe a cold air intake if i can find a good deal near me

      I agree but cobalts are literally advertised as the new cavalier- i looked for a cavalier and found a 2007 cobalt for 1500- malibus are the same but made better dont get below 07 cobalts the rattle is solved in the 08 09 and 10- aim for those -id say cavalier if you bought it in a southern state but here in michigan they are rusted out dinosaur death traps thanks to salt- im on team cavalier myself

    Be careful, this car has alot of problems like power steering which stops working so be very careful when driving. It also has a defect from the ignition switch so the car key can switch from on to acc which turns power brakes and power steering. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DRIVING....

    • @brian96597
      @brian96597 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There was a TSB from GM addressing this issue, and the ignition thing was horse shit. GM just covering their tracks from a few freak crashes that had zero to do with the ignition.

      I have a 2006 Cobalt. The power steering went out a few times in the past. I shut off the engine, restarted it, and the power steering would work again. It stops working from time to time (last time it was about a year ago). But it's still doing me well. Thinking about a replacement though. My car now has over 135,000 miles.

      Miguel Crispin clean the throttle body it should help the rough idle. But I haven’t done anything outside the normal maintenance, besides replacing the clutch and I need to replace the 3rd gear synchronizer because I lost 3rd gear.
