Tom you have just made my day because I am self taught and I have just replaced 4 radiators in my own house using copper and I watched other youtubers who make pipework look so glamorous which in reality it is not. Ripping up floors kneeling on sharp objects and following the rules of wire wooling the pipe ends and fittings, using flux and yet I got a leak on the second radiator I fitted and yes I didn't apply enough heat and my daughters bedroom almost became a wet room but I kept my calm after watching your video and it took me 10 minutes to sort the problem out.. so thank you for proving it's not a glamorous job it's bloody hard graft.. keep up the excellent work..
Thanks for the support Darren, it certainly isn't an easy job at times, things can and do go wrong. My old mate always used to say when a plumber gets a problem, everyone gets to know about it.
Darren you haven't lived unless you've blasted dirty hot water at 4 bar across a care home bedroom because your mate has knocked off the wrong pump set 🤣
As a plumber the stupidest mistake I ever made was turning off a 22mm cold main at a ball valve then proceeded to cut the wrong side of the valve. Absolutely ridiculous, I know. My only partial excuse was that I had two school caretakers standing behind me, chatting away to me and watching my every move and I hate working like that. Still absolutely the most idiotic thing I ever did in the job.
@@Stigstigster i cant even imagine how you felt after that, im the exact same, someone speaking to me and watching makes me mess things up, happens to a lot of people
Hi Tom, another great educational film thank you Tom, every plumber I have ever known in the past 50 years can tell you a story about a flood or leak they have had on a job. It happens to us all and yes that’s me included, I’ve cut into a live pipe 💦more than once over the years (not recommended) what a mess I made. Have a great weekend and as always, take care. 👍👍👍
Thanks for the support as always Chris, I cut the wrong side of a valve in a school once, it's surprising how fast you can move to get to the main stop tap
Great video Tom you did really well to correct it and also to get it working correctly. Plumbing can test your resilience at times and it’s not a nice feeling when things go wrong and you can’t think straight at all. You feel like running away screaming and at that stage your only priority is to fix it, getting paid is the last thing on your mind in fact you would nearly pay the customer to get out of it but you soldier on and when you finally get over the other side of that hill the relief is just amazing and you feel like doing a dance and singing in jubilation, very well done Tom.
That is exactly right, you just want to get out and get done, like you say the money isn't an issue, to be honest I didn't charge what I should have on this job as I felt really bad. Thanks for the support as always Robert
Floods happen to the best of us and we always feel bad. Some people have some crazy ideas on how a heating systems works 🤷♂️. Great work as always Tom. Hope you have a peaceful weekend 👍
Thanks for the support as always mate, it is the unexpected ones that hurt the most, sometimes you do stuff that you half expect to get a drop, but this one completely caught me out
hi tom just catching up again another well worked out job pipe work wise . most people would have give up! well done glad you filmed it to show real life plumbing .
Well done Tom cannot believe what we see sometimes amazes me how it works great feeling when you can sort it out and the customer is happy and you get weighed in 👍
You did the best thing ever with the 10mm plastic. Cut it out and bin it. Plastic is fine in its place but 10mm, looks horrible. Well rescued Tom, will look much better when you’ve done it.
Great video Tom, thanks. I can’t imagine anyone better coping with that sort of unfortunate occurrence! The replacement copper looks very nice, and good to hear your customer appreciates having it actually piped correctly!
Tom the Plumber who’s never had a leak is a lier, well recovered and a job well done as always, it’s always good to sort out others poor work, that one was something else, have a great weekend and don’t work too hard 🚽👍
Something in the air this week tom... had one of those stupid plastic service valves snap on me after trying to nip it up the other day. Had to jam my thumb over it for about 20 mins while I figured out how to rescue the situation, got my adrenaline going I tell thee.
It's stressful and horrible when things go wrong, we all makes mistakes and things go wrong but with plumbing everyone finds out because it makes a mess, it's such a helpless feeling knowing you can't reach the stoptap and water is flying everywhere, thanks for watching mate
Hi Tom just another day in paradise as always mate good job, i believe who ever installed the system did not understand how the systems work maybe a DIY job? have good weekend😊
20 years I emptied an entire heaing system in a top floor apartment into a shower drain .. that wasnt connected .. flooded 4 apartemnts all the way to the ground floor 🤣 didnt know till 4pm when they all came home from work , thank goodness for insurance
It sounds like a nightmare, I've had a couple of bad ones over the years, when I was an apprentice, we did a huge job in a manor house. I was asked to cap all the pipes but I missed one, needless to say there was a fair bit of water, thanks for watching as always mate
It’s hard to polish a t*rd mate. Been to one myself today. He’s done the “first fix” himself. Tiled the 13:37 floors. Nothing lined up! “ I can get a plumber at £40 a rad” . Suggested he contacted them
I thought you had been a bit quiet. Understand I you are very busy 👍👍 I think we have all had those nightmare jobs trying to sort out how someone else has done the job .creating more problems than ever. Well at least you got it sorted out and running better. We all chalk up some mistakes Tom .👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the support as always John, I've not had much time this last couple of weeks, it's looking busy which is good, but it means the content might slow a bit
Yes, I’ve done something similar, capped off a cold main. For some reason the pipe had been doubled back and I’d capped off the wrong end. I cap off both sides now, just in case.
I've never flooded anything! Just a deluge instead...😉. Tom, just a thought could you do a scratch drawing of the system how you found it, and why it wasn't working, and how your solution solved it for some of your jobs in the future which will give some of us an idea of the layout.👍
Why do they use 10 mill pipe. Is that standard on all new builds. You did a good job replacing the other pipe. As for being a plumber its not a bad trade to have. Have a good weekend tom 👍👍
Great video again Tom. 😀👍 What’s your opinion on these Aladdin Easyfit isolation valves? I’m thinking of installing one as our main stopcock has seized.
I've never used one, if at all possible I would isolate the water and fit a standard stop tap, they do look interesting though and certainly do serve a purpose
Thats why I'm glad i retired could not cope with all the day to day shit going on and too much regulations going on. Anyway thanks Tom alwats enjoy your uploads
Look on the bright side, at least there were no carpets fitted. (Don’t forget to get those towels out of the van and dried off B4 they start to smell). 😂😂
Thanks for the support as always Colin, it's a big problem drying the towels out this time of year, they will probably be frozen solid next week in the van
It’s called real world plumbing m8 it’s just a shame plumbers keep using plastic pipes, any monkey can use plastic but a proper plumber would keep the trade in copper going 👏👏👏👏👏👏
3 quarters of the worlds surface is covered in water that gallon we spill as plumbers is fk all! Lol # I flooded my mates garage a while back, and I forgot to shut the drain off! Have a good weekend mate
pre rinsing the floor lol...i had a much more devastating fluid accident today than this tom, knocked my pint mug tea over in my van! much more serious... 😡🤬
That must have been a DIY job ,nobody would put in a 10mm drop for 3 rads . They shouldn't sell 10mm Tees, this encourages the DIY brigade to do garbage like this . As regards the leak , a cup full of water looks like a flood . I wouldn't lose sleep over it .
Thanks for the support as always mate, the 10mm was feeding the lot originally and someone had added the drop directly off the boiler, I think that how it was done
Thanks for watching Harry, I couldn't really have predicted it was piped both ways, luckily it didn't do any damage but I feel felt like a right plonker it front of the customer
There is a story behind it, I picked it up and it wouldn't start, then I got the key stuck in the ignition, they have damaged all the panels around the steering wheel and when you full lock it catches on the trim, apart from that it's all sorted, thanks for watching mate
Don’t it many a time Tom. Sometimes the place I’ve flooded is cleaner than it was before hand 😂
Thanks for the support as always mate, I didn't charge extra for the floor clean on this one

Everyone gets a leak now and then, just have to make sure all is well cleaned.

Thanks for the support as always Danny, have a great weekend

@ yep, it certainly gets the heart racing 🤬🍻👍👍
Copper looks so much better. Make sure whoever fits the skirting knows there's pipes in the wall. Thanks for sharing 👍
Very true that, the customer is fitting the skirting himself so it should be Ok, thanks for watching mate

How they get away with that plastic piss swooping in from behind the rad I don’t know. It’s cheap and it’s lazy. Far better job now at that rad 👍
