Great information on the approach values. This is information I log daily, but unaware of the actual reason why it's important. Several chillers are on site but currently working with Trane Centravac from the 1970s. Tube and shell flooded. Size CV-12F-G5-H5.
Current condenser approach 7-9°
Current evaporator approach running 10-15°
Condenser tubes punched yearly. However, I have no information last time that evaporator tubes were opened up.
Ya those approach valves aren't good but ive seen that older equipment run higher valves from where and lack of efficiency.

Is Dx type chiller has same way to find.aproach like leaving water temp-saturation temp of gas as in flooded type or leaving water temp - suction temp of gas
What causes refrigerant to water or vice versa leak? Couldn't figure or find a lesk on a chiller i was wondering on until i used my detector on the water pretty crazy
If there is debris in the water it can puncture a hole through the thin tubes. Improper chemical treatment can create a hole. If the chiller was recovered but the barrel was not drained or did not have water flowing it could have caused a crack. Those are the most common reasons.

Chiller Academy will have it's own version of this in a lesson. It's not the exact same video. The recent videos are to provide a free constructive resource to those that need it. Chiller Academy adds more to them and gives a structured and consolidated place to learn these concepts in depth. Great question, I should probably do a live stream to discuss these kinds of things further.
