    Dexed is an amazing free VST. This is so cool what you have done with it. Arminator 2 is also a very good one to emulate Blade Runner and Vangelis.

    Such a GREAT video. Not only making a DX7 seem easy to program, but also showing how important to a final sound a good effect can be. This was awesome!

    Very interesting and really highlights the tiny tweaks necessary that can have a massive impact on a sound

    This may say more about me, and my ability to find stuff, than anything else.
    But I was led here by my love for Bladerunner and the CS80.
    But ended up watching the best exposition on (part of...) FM synthesis I've ever seen.
    Thank you!

    It's common for the VCA and VCF to be modulated by multiple sources, including an envelope, so the mixer that selects the envelope as a source can effectively set the level.
    So not being able to set the level *on the envelope* doesn't matter.

    This is a completely awesome video! I am brand new to all of this so please excuse my somewhat ignorant question. How do you connect the Dexed to the Valhala? Are they both plugins into a DAWS software? Thank you.

    • @waveform-synths
      @waveform-synths  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, Yes they are both plugins, so Dexed can send it's audio into Dexed by chaining them together in a DAW like Bitwig or Ableton, or via a send on all DAWs...

    i never though you could get that sound with an fm synth. on the other hand fm synth, to me, are like chinese. i'm only learning my way around subtractive. when you know, you know.
    on a different note, tons of great sounding free - or very cheap - vst synths out there. it's uncanny. even modest looking ones, interface wise, from years ago.

    • @waveform-synths
      @waveform-synths  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks - I was around when FM first took off with the DX7 - the number of books I bought to try and geat my head round FM was unreal... just like learning another language!

    I'm having some issues trying to replicate this sound in ableton. I'm using the same plugins, but every time that I try to increase the level on 2 to get that nasally, brassy tone, it just doesn't get there. I've never done anything involving synths before so i am a bit clueless. Is there anything you think I should do?

    • @waveform-synths
      @waveform-synths  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try again, step by step, making sure you initialise the patch first & have the correct algorithm selected - you should get there!

  • @Noone-of-your-Business
    @Noone-of-your-Business 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Why not use the Arminator VST? That's completely free as well as a really good CS-80 emulator. No need to go to all the trouble with FM synthesis, which is fundamentally _different_ from the substractive synthesis of the CS-80.
    I mean, this is interesting and all, but then why not call the video *"CS-80 sounds from a DX-7"?*

    • @waveform-synths
      @waveform-synths  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Arminator is 32 Bit only I think, so that rules it out on my Cubase... I might have a play with it on Reaper if it's worth checking out...

    I dont really understand why its such an achivement creating a synth sound from a film recorded in 1981 today in 2022. The amount of microprocessing powers has increased exponentially since then.
    The DX7 arrived in the summer of 1983 so that machine is not involved in any way shape or form.
