One of the biggest problems is the chair legs sink into the grass and rot. If cut up a car tire into rectangles little large than the legs. Screwed to the bottom with stainless steel screws. This keeps the legs off the grass and keeps the rot down.
liked the return comment. was in my teens growing up in Syracuse. Those were Larry Czonka years. Moved to south Fla. and watched him play with Miami at the orange bowl. To me the greatest stadium ever. Would go and watch the Dolphins and the Hurricanes play. Syracuse will always hold a special place in my heart, but being in s fla. for so long and the Orange Bowl, well really became a Miami fan. 64 now, but going intothat old wooden stadium, 86000 plus seats, I always got the chills from just the excitement of being there. Today is a tough call, Syracuse at Miami, have grown to be a Hurricane fan. So it is tough, I just want it to be a good game, but being here so long, I really want Miami to win, but in any other case i always still root for the orange. Just wanted to be truthful. Almost 47 years in s fla. Maybe before you were born. Thats my story, and thanks for all your great builds n music.n
I bought the plans several years ago, worth every penny. easy to follow, great strong design, we built several out of mahogany. they have become our favorite chairs used every day by hundreds of youth in the philippines. A big thank you
NICE job Man !! I CRACKED UP when you were climbing over the chairs to shut off the lights ...... that's alllll me right there trying to get out of my shop at night !! I'm 67 and STILL loving it ! I keep telling myself "I'm getting" to old for this Sh*t !!!! Keep up the beautiful work !!
I've been woodworking for 50+ years, you have really nailed the process with these chairs, efficient production and high quality work. Great stuff. I wish I had access to all that Western Cedar, I use local White Cedar. I have a HVLP spray setup but might leave unfinished.
I just bought the plans and templates. Just fantastic. The plans are beautiful and easy to follow. Everything is color coded and clear. The wooden templates are going to make everything easy. I did make one error; I bought 40 linear feet of rough sawn 8” Teak. Not only was the cost a big “ouch”, but it’s ruining every blade on every machine that I own. Do yourself a favor: use cedar or similar, stay away from teak. But don’t hesitate to purchase these templates and plans, they are great, really great.
Just wanted to say I bought the plans and they are really great, everything went smoothly. Looking forward to doing more builds based on your work, cheers!
Well done! Articulate, easy to understand. Beautiful chair. I have built several of these over the past 30 years including a double loveseat, matching coffee table and round end tables. In fact, I sold the full size blueprints in a couple woodwork magazines and sold the plans all over the world. Best of luck to you!
That’s pretty “ultimate.” I mean because a lot of people mislead us with false titles. Your chairs are beautiful. One day soon I’ll try this. Right now I’m making a few different ones per customer request. I didn’t have plans for them and they’re pretty awesome but I really enjoyed your insight and expertise. Love this! Subscribed!
Ok, maybe this IS the tenth or fifteenth time I've watched this video, but it's quick and i still get something new each time. About to finish my FIRST Adirondak chair from your templates. Mistakes aplenty 😅 thanks again.
Awesome video, very informative, and very personal. The best way to learn is by watching an expert, and the way you set it up it feels like I'm right there in the shop. Good shit dude
I made one last year from his plans. Went very well and is very comfortable. The only thing I did different and would do again, was attach the arm rests at the front leg with pocket screws from underneath. This keeps the top face looking seamless and water doesn't have a chance to soak-in around the screw.
I really like your personality buddy! You did a great job with both the chairs and the videography, not to mention the nutty stuff. Looking forward to more.
Yes! Well produced video. The right amount of humor and talking. I hate TH-cam videos with superfluous introductions or nonsensical material. Some people don't have the gift of the gab, and some others just want to see themselves talking on video.
I’m smack dab in the middle of building a set of cedar Adirondack chairs with a template I got from another TH-cam maker, so I know how much work goes into it. I learned some things from your video that will come in handy when it comes time for assembly. Thank you!

Hals Wood Shop. Very Great Lesson here in mass production. Excellant. I made the Woodsmith Adirondack chair and the seat does not drop low in the back like most Adirondack chairs( accidental learning ) but most tall men that I have sit in my chairs really like getting in and out of them because it is not that low angle. Worth looking up those plans for a new leg pattern. I wish I could get the western red cedar here in PA very hard to find. My pine chairs have done well with care, almost 20 years.
Where in PA? I just moved to DC and had to call around for pricing, the clear grain stuff is a little tricky to find by the tight knot stuff is readily available, cheapest pricing was in northern MD which wouldn't be far if you're in the right part of PA
I am in central PA near Penn State. I haven't checked the local specialty dealers. Big box stores only carry fencing in cedar. Thanks for the quick answer.
Great job! Your Adirondack chairs are the best looking design I’ve seen. I’m definitely going to purchase your plans so I can make a few of these for myself.
I really like that notch design on the top of the back leg! For my build I'm trying to avoid screw penetrations in the top of the arms. Will try pocket screws from below.
Love these chairs. I am a late starter in woodwork and mainly turn wood on my lathe. I have just been asked by my wife to build her some garden furniture and have watched your video a few times now, love to have a set of plans as it would make alot easier. I live in the damp UK so which would be a good wood to use. Your fan Max
You are the only person I've seen besides myself that uses peanut butter jars for hardware. I've been collecting them for years. Congratulations man. 😆
Paul, after reading all of the comments here I think you have heard about everything. I am just going to sit back and take a few deep breaths and drink a few cold ones. You are the man111 How do you keep all of that in order and remember it. Thanks for sharing.
It’s a dream of mine to own one of these stunning chairs. I was lucky enough to sit in an Adirondack when I travelled to America. They are so comfortable. Fantastic video. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain every stage. Thank You.x
Purchased your plans. Just letting out know how much I appreciate the amount of effort you put into everything. Between the plans and your videos I should be able to complete the project. Great for newcomers like me.
Your craftsmanship is superb!!! Beautiful work!!! My friend. Very hard to find quality like that nowadays. Btw,,, new subscriber. Take care and keep these GREAT videos comin!!!!
Glad to see that when you got to the router you finally put your dust mask on. You’re young, dust protection now will pay off when you’re older. In other words you won’t have to drag an oxygen bottle around when you’re an old man. Nice build BTW.
I’m taking a woods class and we get to make these chairs after seeing this I want to make it in my class for a project and I have confidence on making this chair I hope I don’t make any mistakes
Nice job, beautiful chairs, i need some like this for "rude use" strong and durable, i'lll try to do this one I dont like plastic chairs.. Next time try to sand all table before start to cut, afther you need re- sanding again, but willl be fast just details and edges.i fo this way a lot, wood in my town had saw marks everywhere....
Really nice job paul. I'm not a big fan of those kind of Chairs. But yours look much better than the other ones, I think im gone get my self the drawing you sell 😁 keep up the good work Paul 👍
Woah. More power to you man. I would totally lose track of how many of what piece when laying all those out. Love your system though! Can tell you've done a lot.
just beautiful.....wonderful job.......you start out with 5\4 and end up with actual 1 inch.....plane off 1\4..?.....the mainframe is plenty strong at the 1 inch since you have the width......right?......great design.....it' seems hard to source out some western red cedar here in the San Joaquin Valley at 5\4...and 3\4 then planed would look anemic.....I grabbed some SPF 5/4 fascia for the mainframe but I m struggling to find material for the ret of the chair......this will have to be a painted chair....I have a jointer and planer just cant find the wood...whats out there is crazy expensive right now...
My Dad and I built this type chair in the early '70s. We used white oak, 3/4". He bought the pattern around 1950. I bought your plans but I am having a hard time getting rough cut 5/4 cedar around western PA. Do you think 3/4" cedar would work?
I think he said he was going for a 1" finished thickness. So 3/4" will possibly not support a full grow man.
One of the biggest problems is the chair legs sink into the grass and rot.
If cut up a car tire into rectangles little large than the legs. Screwed to the bottom with stainless steel screws. This keeps the legs off the grass and keeps the rot down.

Dude you are a beast! That is a lot of work but the chairs turn out beautifully.

Well this vid came out at the perfect time. Bought your plans awhile back and picking up wood today. Weekend (or two) project. Thanks Paul!
I love the editing in your videos, and the subtle music in the background does wonders. Also, very nice detailed explanation of all the steps. 10/10

Woah. More power to you man. I would totally lose track of how many of what piece when laying all those out. Love your system though! Can tell you've done a lot.
