I absolutely agree!! The PS1 Graphics absolutely helped to make Scary games, even more Scary!! Those Graphics just helped to add to the level of "Unknown" that a constant in Survival Horror games back then? I was 12-13 when the very first RE came out & I immediately became a fan!!! Still play all of these to this day!!! They still absolutely hold up for an incredible gaming experience, & I think that is lucky individuals that got to experience games from the late 80's to 90's to now, we have truly got to see the best that gaming as an enter medium, has to offer!!
I've always said that this Gen had to go so hard to convey horror. The sound design, lighting, and very overt visual references to violence all made up for the fact that the graphics were a little muddy. I always point at OG Resident Evil, which looks like you're being attacked by a load of sentient triangles, but through sound design and evoking mental imagery to make up for the gap between developer vision and what was technically possible, they just wormed their way into our amygdala
@ think the muddy style pixelation of the Graphics also helped our Child brain's imaginations to Convey an even more scary, Nightmare Scenario experience too, because of the Blurrier Graphics it almost made it like a fever Dreamlike experience & combined with the Sound design, Made it Hit so much harder? The way the Door Sound tends to "SLAM" would always give my 12yrs old self a quick "Jerk" as I made it through the other side & would have that slight hesitation as if it alerted Something nearby...,!?!? Man, So true about the clever Sounds & Effect design!! They really Did so much! I love these games!!!
Silent Hill was incredible when it released. I haven’t played it since the Christmas of 2000 when I got my copy for the PS1, and I will always treasure those wonderful in that hellscape of Silent Hill.
11:23 Dino Crisis was my first 3D survival horror video game. I used to own a Famicom and play a lot of the classic games with my little brother, and even though they were in Japanese, most of the stories weren't as I imagined them to be. When my parents bought us a used PSone (the White Mini), it brought with it a few games from the kids who had traded it in for a PS2: Rockman 8, Front Mission 3, Warriors of Might and Magic, Army Men Team Assault, Need For Speed Unleashed Porsche, Medal of Honor, Tomb Raider The Last Revelation, Metal Gear Solid, Toys Story 2, MediEvil 1 and 2, Power Rangers Rescue, Fighting Force, 007 Tomorrow Never Dies and Nuclear Strike... I love every single one of those games with all my heart, but they all had one thing in common... they were thrilling adventures. When I went to the center of my city and passed by a store I saw this beautiful black cover with the Velociraptor Claw that said "DINO CRISIS" and my 7 year old self said wow, what a game is that? so it was my first video game bought with my savings. When I got home and my little brother and I started playing on a small TV that could be connected to 2 headphones... My God, from the menu you could already feel that something was not right, the game was in Japanese and I didn't understand anything, but to be fair I didn't even understand my own language well at that age XD. I played it on hard because that's how it was, I always liked to feel like an adult playing everything like that and the game starts gradually and with suspense but... the amount of blood and mutilated bodies that were everywhere (polygonal... yes, but it was super realistic and our childish minds that weren't allowed to watch horror movies didn't help) god. my little brother didn't want to see it and I, who could stand it any longer, let weeks go by to play a little because I was a masochist. The Velociraptors were Intelligent, Menacing, Fast and Tough and on top of that they weren't that scripted, I didn't understand anything, there was no ammo, the soundtrack didn't help, we didn't have Internet or anyone who knew anything about the game (Everyone in my School was playing GTA Vice City or Counter-Strike at that time) only a few will know what true horror is, I was 7 years old and I remember taking a knife from the kitchen and hiding it under the bed in case a velociraptor wanted to devour my entire family, until then I loved dinosaurs... today I love them again but it didn't take away my fear.
Pretty good list, but I would've put Silent Hill at number 1. RE2 is arguably the better game, but SH is a better HORROR game. Also Galerians should've had a spot on the list imo. But aside from those things I largely agree with this.
Great list, but I really think Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare deserved to be on it. The gameplay was not quite as polished as Resident Evil, but it had amazing graphics and the audio helped add to the creepy atmosphere. Strangely, the PS1 version of the game is one of the best versions, even compared to the PS2 or PC versions, as they had slightly messed-up audio.
Resident Evil 1 was the first game i had for the PS1. I bought it along with the console just to have something to play right away and this was the one that to me seemed to be the best of the ones that store had. I think i was right. I still have it and have since bought it digitally for ps5. Silent Hill was also one i remember as being good but i only ever rented it and never owned it.
you forgot Martian Gothic, its something about clumsy controls that enhance the feeling of being vulnerable by a lot and not to mention they never really die XD
I love all of these games, even just down to the art of them. But RE3 is a special little game. It's not slow and strategic, but the fast paved nature of it is just WAITING for you to screw up. So good
Would have been better if you compressed series into singular entries and left space for Galerians and honorable mentions for Alone in the Dark series since the first four games were on the Playstation and without it there wouldn't have been a Resident Evil.
We can only hope that after the original Resident Evils got ported to modern systems on GOG, Konami does one of their collections on Silent Hill. The first game would be rather well recieved imo, since the low-poly aesthethics in horror are back in vogue
The thing about Dino Crisis is that it often comes down to which game you played first and what your expectations are for the sequel. It seems that the general consensus is that the first game is superior. However, I played Dino Crisis 2 before I experienced the first one, and for me, the second installment is clearly the better game-better graphics, better gameplay, better music, everything. And I can say the same thing about Parasite Eve.
Jimmy, I can't keep letting this RE 3make slander slide. Such bonkers stupid fun, until you reach the final boss on the hardest difficulty. Ouch. Looking forward to more horror vids this month!
No Overblood or Martian Gothic? LoL! But honestly I am very nostalgic for Overblood, from playing the crap out of it as a kid waiting for another RE equivalent.
I think Dino Crisis 2 and Parasite eve isint horror games. I think also Resident evil 3 ps1 was amazing and Silent hill is easyly top 1 ps1 horror game. Just my thoughts. Keep going bro👍
Some of the places the video was pulled from are obviously use filters or emulator upscaling of some kind, and it really makes some of the games seem almost like plastic figures and environments instead of the sharper edges and blended colors that the Og system output. I encourage people to play the games as they were originally intended to look. I know that there is something appealing to some people about making these games look like something they arent, but you’re definitely losing some of the original artists work that way.
I think that what dino crisis suffers most from compared to the original, is the horrendous background art in basically the whole game. it's an absurd downgrade and it really cripples the experience, especially playing on modern displays. otherwise, I think its a pretty cool sequel despite being more focused on shooting action rather than navigation and puzzle solving
Unpopular opinion…. I like RE1 over RE2. Bad voice acting and all. RE2 doesn’t have as many bosses and I like the mansion setting better. Love both remakes though
Re 1 has the best location, love the mansion, followed by RE CVX. I like the setting, a remote island. Re1 remake is a masterpiece. Much bettrr than re2r & re3r.
You are now entering a world of horror happy to see a night time Vulture’s video RE 1 2 3 Silent Hill Koudelka Parasite Eve 1 2 Clock Tower 1 2 Dino Crisis 1 2 Fear Effect 1 2 Alone in the Dark 1 2 Evil Dead D Galerians Echo Night and Countdown Vampires Halloween is upon us time for the Horror
Great game, but I wouldn't call it horror. It isn't even the creepiest/scariest game in that franchise on PS1, as Blood Omen 1 is far more disturbing despite its worse graphics.
U lost all my respect when u put in DC 2 (which isn’t even a horror game much more an action game) over Hellnight (which l highly doubt a casual like u would even know about)!!! Such a BRAINROT goin on…. 😂😭🤣💀
THE BEST PS-II HORROR: CRIMSON BUTTERFLY - th-cam.com/video/673-NQmeWqw/w-d-xo.html
There is something really unsettling about these old looking graphics for ps1 gives me the major creeps!
Almost feels like the PS1 was created solely for playing horror games
I absolutely agree!!

They jumped on you and the DualShocks moved brutally (Those were real vibrators).
Silent hill is really an amazing game still
You’re my new favourite list channel thank you 🙌🏻
Dino Crisis 2...? That is as far away from horror games as one can get. The first title yes, definitely. But not this one.
Would have been better with a "one game per franchise" rule. Resident Evil and Dino Crisis are -almost- half the list.
Wales mentioned once again!!! Love to see a channel with repeated love for our weird, green little rock ❤
I think Capcom dropped the ball by not putting in an Akuma mode in Resident Evil 2 HD
Parasite Eve is criminally underrated 💙
Starting to become nice to see your videos pop up! Glad I found the channel. It’s October baby let’s go!
Nightmare creature's definitely deserved a remake
Pretty good list, but I would've put Silent Hill at number 1. RE2 is arguably the better game, but SH is a better HORROR game. Also Galerians should've had a spot on the list imo. But aside from those things I largely agree with this.
I agree.
Now I want to play Clock Tower: Nemesis.
6:00 literally lighting a stiiizy 40s blunt rn
For me personally, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare and Echo Night are better than Nightmare creatures and Clock Tower.
Echo night is awesome. Had an atmosphere unlike any other game.
Great list, but I really think Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare deserved to be on it. Hopefully we'll see a remake of Silent Hill 1 one day!
we won't.they never make resident evil remake the first one
Dino Crisis 2 is incredible
6:09 That cover is fake it wasn't released in the US however the original game is finally getting released outside of Japan this year.
Resident Evil Survivor is great btw
My favorite PS1 horror games are: "Juggernaut," "Echo Night 1&2," "Shadow Tower," "Overblood," "D," "Galerians," "Dino Crisis 1&2," "Mizzurna Falls," "Hellnight," "Darkseed," "Dracula" FMV series, "Powerslave," "Twilight Syndrome," "R?MJ: The Mystery Hospital," "Baroque/BaroqueSyndrome," "Iru!," "Tokyo Shadow," "Dark Tales: From the Lost Soul," "Germs Nerawareta," "LSD Dream Emulator," "Night Head The Labyrinth," "UgetsuKitan," "Yami Fuku Natsu: Teito Monogatari Futatabi," "Nanatsu no Hikan," "Kowai Shashin," "Reikoku Kizoku Ikeda's Psychics Laboratory," "Paranoiascape," and "Kowloon's Gate."
I think Dino Crisis 2 and Parasite eve isint horror games. I think also Resident evil 3 ps1 was amazing and Silent hill is easyly top 1 ps1 horror game. Just my thoughts. Keep going bro👍
Dino Crisis 2 in a top 10 horror games... Nothing about the game is horror.
Anyway you should play Hellnight, it's a very good horror experience.

Of all time? I dunno, the PS1 may come out with some good stuff in the next 10-20 years.
Kweh❤

Third generation*. NES started the modern era.
PS1 the mother of horror games
Couldn't fit any more ads into this video?
It's the default ad setting so actually I could have added a lot more
i found parasite eve 1 extremely boring, and parasite eve 2 amazingly fun! the texas stage its like be playing inside Tremors movie :)
Capcom❤🔥
Dino Crisis 2 is better than the first one in my opinion, if you don't consider the "horror" aspect
Are you an old person? I can’t tell.
I was around when the PS1 came out so yes
What do u consider old? Lol. (Also, what kind of question is that??)
@@MerkhVision His voice sounds old; The vulture picture looks old that’s why I asked.

Re3 is stupidly low here. Much better game then re2
RE3 was by far the best.
Wow. No Soul Reaver?
?? Not a horror game even remotely.
Great game, but I wouldn't call it horror. It isn't even the creepiest/scariest game in that franchise on PS1, as Blood Omen 1 is far more disturbing despite its worse graphics.
