    Danedream won Arc by 5 lengths beat a top class field and many who finished behing have since won Group 1 races so the form is outstanding. Danedream is being prepared to peak for the ARC - watch Danedream kick butt in this year`s renewal :)

    I still miss mick kinane,The coolest rider who never ever panic in any kind of situation and a master of his trade.He is my all time favourite jockey and only murtagh has shades of him nowdays.There is some great oz jockey's as well with the likes of n.rawiller,c.williams,McEvoy who was quite successful at his stint at uk.Then there is some great S.Africa jockey as well with the likes of coetzee,marwing,marcus and Lloyd.i don't follow much of american racing so no comment there.

    @2222badger2222 I'm not debating whether or not he's a true stayer, I'm debating ur statement about him not being effective over 1.5m, nonsense. Agreed, his peak is 10F but I don't hear the same comments about the likes of WF/SNA. Maybe if THEY were a threat to the national interest we'd hear the same comments. I don't doubt that AO is a great trainer, but I think there were many lessons to learn from SYT's career to date that weren't learned. Bart & S.Arnold would have done better in the Arc.

    @Nautilus1972 Find one other race in his career where he races near to the rear of the field other than the 5th he ran behind Starspangledbanner in the Caulfield Guineas (8F). Even in relatively large fields he always races on the speed. There's not a horse in the world that could have won from the position he was in at the 3F mark. Taking nothing from the winner... but it was an overly safe ride that gave him no hope of finishing any closer than he did.

  • @jsham23
    @jsham23 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    FFS O'Brien, did you watch a race of SYT's in Australia? Sit him in front of the pack behind the pacemaker (unbelievable that you'd train a horse just to be a bunny in the first place) and he'll win by 10L just from raw pace.
    He's not the same horse that much is clear but he's finding his feet.

  • @drofheim
    @drofheim 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Right its obvious after today SYT is not a great after yet another loss, but I sure do respect the hell out of it with all its desire and effort to win races, even though I do downbeat on its performance it'd only cause of the utter ignorance of the Australians, cannot fault the bravery of the horse though.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @SvendBosanvovski Agreed. As u know I did a fair bit of coin on SYT, but I didn't back him once the barriers were drawn. I think it was a very safe ride from Heffernen. Had he pressed forward at the start & compounded to run near the rear it would have been a poor outcome for Coolmore. At least this way, while not having a realistic winning chance they could still claim he ran creditably, which of course he did. I still think thought that he would have benefitted from BC's way of race training.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MattGray1175 I agree that there were a number of instances that conspired to thwart SYT's Arc. Seamie Heffernen admitted that he erred in not taking a more forward position in the first half mile. Despite this though I think it would have been difficult for SYT to have beaten the winner with the weight allowance in the Arc. FYI So You Think was not top-weight in the '10 Melbourne Cup. Shocking was top weight and carried 57Kg's. SYT had 55.5.

  • @MrStripYourGirl
    @MrStripYourGirl 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah William Buick is probably the best around now I would say, Buick and Hughes are setting the standard. Frankie Dettori is the best jockey ever in my opinion but now he is older he doesnt have his strength he once had. Still he knows how to win the races just a little weaker now. Kinane was top notch and is also an all time great.

  • @MrDraven37
    @MrDraven37 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    All credit must go to the winner, that was an exceptional run and win, but the commentator was spot on about So You Think.. 'came from nowhere'. SYT was nowhere due to the deplorable ride he was given, that far back with so much traffic to navigate, he was never going to win that. His best wins have always been on the speed, stalking, or on the lead.

    • @michaeldowd5545
      @michaeldowd5545 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dancing Brave came wider and later. SYT was not good enough. Track record. No excuses.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @drofheim Silly question if you think about it. 19 of the last 30 winners have been 3 year olds. Bart would have to win the race with a 2 year old weighted as a 3 year old. 9 of the remaining 11 winners were 4 year olds. Bart would have to win the race with a 3 year old, weighted as a 4 yo. Winning the Arc, which is worth less prizemoney doesn't, under those conditions, look too attractive.

  • @emmelby
    @emmelby 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can't take anything away from the winner, yes, she got the big pull in the weights, but the turn of foot she showed to run away from them tells me she has genuine talent. As for SYT, that ride was nowhere near as proactive as it needed to be. And he STILL doesn't look fit. I don't think there's any shame in the run for the horse himself though, he passed just about everything coming home, but it would certainly have been nice to see him closer in the running.

  • @daeuri
    @daeuri 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @GBeret83 I suspect that traveling great distances not knowing where you are going is way more traumatic for horses than humans. It seems to me that most of the great horses rarely competed outside their home continent. I will remember Danedream's win in the Arc long after the memory of the Japan Cup has faded.

    I agree to an extent but Ryan Moore has made over 16 million on the course and has won all the major races.(He is the richest jockey) I think Soumillon and Peslier are both good jockeys but I still think the likes of Dettori, Buick, Hughes, Moore, Fallon are better and I think the horse racing in the UK and Ireland is more competitive and harder to win.

  • @Laytonia1977

    @SvendBosanvovski I was trying to be diplomatic. Gambling on European racing can be frustrating in that you often won't know if you're going to ge much of a run for your money. I agree with your assessment of G Moore. At least I would have had a run at a place chance if he wasn't able to outpace the winner, who did win very very well. Luckily I had a few places on Black Caviar today so I made some of my losses back ;)

    @2222badger2222 "he may win a feature race." And the 8 G1's he's won to date what are they? Sea The Stars would not have gone near winning had he been in SYT's position. He ran home a tick outside 33 secs as it was. STS was a great, but he would have had to run a mid-31 to have gotten near the winner. I don't think so. I think it was a very safe ride by Heffernen. Better run home with the placegetters than risk compounding & running near the tail. He had no problems with the distance.

    Listen up, the ARC is all about bragging rights for breeding, Danedream was German Bred and half owned by the top Breeder in Japan. Pretty clear they wanted a Japanese Bred Horse to win the ARC to enhance their Breeding operation that's why Danedream didn't run and they withdrew her at last minute (with excuse about some bug - total tosh) ,leaving Ofevre to mop up the Arc , only to be denied by a Showboating Belgium Jockey who went too soon.

    • @bgardiner3354
      @bgardiner3354 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree the ride was disappointing. I think it was damage limitation to a certain extent. If they ride him hot and he gets beaten badly it would have had a commercial impact. This way he runs a credible 4th and no damage done. I think that someone should have reminded AO that he ran 3rd in a Melbourne Cup on a slow 6.

    I agree in the jockey's that you mentioned but i am not a fan of ryan moore and price money does not make a great jockey but the kind of races that they have won.The competetitiveness of british racing is actually over shadowed more with the peanut price money on offer for most of the races.Sometimes you wonder what the heck is the jock doing on winning chances and that include all the top jock's.Dettori at his brilliant best is miles ahead of moore but of coz he is getting on with age now.

  • @bgardiner2000
    @bgardiner2000 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @2222badger2222 Racing in Europe & ANZ is different & training methods differ as a result. IMO though, from being involved in conditioning myself that some horses benefit more from racing than others. SYT falls into the first group, & BC knew this. He had him absolutely at his peak for the 2m of the Melbourne Cup with 10000 race meters in his legs. I'm not saying BC is a better trainer, but had he had a BC prep & not been ridden so safely the result would have been much different.

    SYT couldn't win because he is not a 3 year old. This was his first race at a mile and a half and considering the riding tactics he ran very well. His only other race over 10f was a third as top weight (59kg) in the Melbourne Cup on heavy ground. (to rcschumann) The fact that you allude that a great horse should be able to win from any position indicates you know very little about pace and tempo in horse racing. No horse that has ever existed can run under 32 seconds in the last 600m of an Arc.

He's a champ no doubt,but not a true stayer.The melb. cup was run at a farcical pace best suited to a sit & sprint 2000m horse.He would've won had he not pulled.I believe a truly run 3200m would take it out of him,pull or no pull.However we will never know because if he fails you'll blame O'Brien.If he does win a feature ( cont.)...

    @2222badger2222 SYT has only raced once of 12F or more outside the Arc & that was in the Melb Cup over 2m where he pulled like a train for the 1st 5F on a dead 6 with 55.5kg's. Had there been a decent pacemaker in that race he'd likely have won it. Your assessment that he's not a genuine stayer, which is obviously based on what others have inferred, is ignorant. "At this level"? he beat the cream of Euro's stayers outside of a couple of lightly weighted 3yo's & 4yo mare he's beaten easily before

    @SvendBosanvovski Met and beaten the best? Hardly. Pour Moi would have made short work of him, and Danedream had they met.

    SYT is a really good horse but lacks the gears in this big fields.
    Hw only beat handicappers in Australia, they thought he was Pegasus!
    He is very good. Not quite a great though, as shown today.
    Dandream just flew.

    SYT was the most talented horse in the Arc. They need advice from Bart Cummings, and they need the right jockey to ride him.

    Sorry- The Glatisant- watch again. The filly was clearly pulling away from the field, including SYT, in the final furlong of the race. The pull in the weights. and her devastating turn of foot, would've put paid to them irrespective of race tactics.
