    I typically "mix n match" tools from different manufacturers to get the results that I need for the specific process.

    I use the LEE three jaw chuck with a Lyman adapter (discontinued at least 25 year ago as I recall) attached to the stud which allows me to then attach the the Lyman ezee trim drill piece (rather than the cutter threaded in it's threaded to the Lyman adapter) then the Lyman Ezee trim rubber grip is attached. I have a large rubber grip to hold onto while only having to grasp the Lee three jaw chuck to slightly turn it to change cases. It sped up my case trimming using this method greatly.

      Thats a good option. I have one as well. It didn't work well for me long term. So far this Lyman is very solid. But I do more or mine sees more use then many.

    I found that Plano makes some nice semi clear organizer cases for tackle, etc. that are impregnated with 'Rustrictor" and have movable dividers so all those Lyman and Lee Trim pilots, cutters , case holders can be stored in the Plano Rustrictor case to keep them from rusting. Easily divided by caliber and marked for easy finding. I bought a 2nd Plano "Rustrictor" organizer case for all my case gauges and Go/No Go gauges. These also easily surface rust, in just mildly humid environments. (even when coated with mineral oil.) Hopefully these will keep surface rust at bay. Time will tell. they are about 11-12 bucks for each organzer case, Hopefully that will help others.

    I have the same Lyman tool with the handgun pilots, I bought the .223 and 45-70 pilots since they are the only rifles I reload for. I have never trimmed handgun cases. I like the E-Z trimmer it does the job for me, I use my cordless drill to turn the cases.

    Ok I finally had some time and funds and a few other things I needed and now I ordered 6 LEE Stems to go onto a Lee cutter and 8/32 Lee adaptor to fit into my RCBS case Prep center. Same type of case prep station as Lyman and Frankford they are all 8-32 female threaded posts as CW said. Thanks to CW I have 2 new LYMAN Case holders and an assortment of non threaded Lyman stems and cutter. The Lyman case holder takes standard shellholders, but actually hold the brass cases well! Unlike the cheap aluminum ring Lee things that are not much to hold onto. So Now I have a good start on the calibers after buying all the Lee steel Case adaptors most were $6.99 each from Midway. So for less than $50.00 I have 6 Lee stem adaptors for 6 calibers. I can now use the Lee cutter and case length "stems" with a very good solid steel case holder. Some are $9.99 each but most are $6.99. I was tired of the hand crank case trimmers I have been using. Especially for 223, 300BLk and other really common calibers. I now have 6 brand new LEE aluminum case holders that are going straight into the trash. (They come with each Lee Stem.)

    • @Prepare2Survive
      @Prepare2Survive ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cw2a Didn't need a custom mount to put it on the hornady case prep center. It uses the standard mount most manual crank trimmers use and the hornady case prep center uses the same.

    • @PatriotPaulUSA
      @PatriotPaulUSA 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All the other case prep centers use 8-32 male threaded accessories that I have seen. @@Prepare2Survive The good news is these 2 sets from Lyman have cutters that use that large male thread that looks like what is on some of the hand crank lathe type case trimmers. So they may work on that Hornady trim center. It looks like about 1/2" x 20 or 28 or something from my memory.

  • @TreeTopFlier

    That is definitely an improvement on the Lee version, which I despise. However, the Lee quick trim die is really nice in many ways. I don't care for the mandrel metering pin style because it's too easy for me to put side loads on the already sized neck. I've gone down the RCBS lathe, pilot bushing path but ended up with rings from the pilot in the mouth. I'm headed back to the Lee quick trim for my 308. As you noted, Lee design and innovation is outstanding, but falls short in materials and finish. The quick trim die holds the body of the case firm and square on the shell holder, and also provides a pilot for the cutter. The case necks come out perfectly square every time which is my number 1 priority. The part that sucks (you would hate) Is the depth adjustment is plastic. I would gladly pay more for a more durable feature. God bless you CW

    I tried using the Lee on my Lyman prep center cutting 223 cases and I didn't like it... It wasn't cutting the cases to the same length every time. Each case were different and it wasn't even at the right length anyways.... So I went back to the old Lyman trimmer with the power adapter. I did bought a Lyman X press trimmer but I have not even opened it yet. Just for a back up if that even happens....

      The threads on there spuds are rough... (again materials) so ya need be conscious and carefully and fully screw then down to cutter. They are pretty foul proof they cannot cut diff lengths when properly attached and used. But, I do understand. We all like what we like and are comfortable with. So YOU DO YOU!!!

  • @PatriotPaulUSA

    OK I have heard those Lee aluminum case holders were pretty much junk before. So after seeing this video I bought these 2 Lyman Hand Case Trim sets just to have almost everything I needed, and I also added a couple more Lyman length stems for 300bo and 6.5mm. Here is what I wasn't sure about, and now I know. Hopefully this saves others from spending a bunch of money like I did. I also have the Same RCBS case prep station that accepts any 8-32 thread accessory cutters/ deburring tools. (Most brands of these All are set up this way, Except Hornady ) Unfortunately, NONE of these Lyman pilots will fit the Lee cutter! The Lyman stem setup uses a round shank and the cutter has a unthreaded center hole for these stems with and allen set screw on the side to lock the case length "stem" to the cutter. So The Lyman Stems, wont fit the Lee Cutters, and the Lyman Cutters wont fit into the RCBS Case Prep Station! 😡 So The ONLY Thing I can use is the shell case holder which is much better than the crappy Lee one as CW shows us. Thanks CW, seriously. The Rest of these 2 sets go into the junk drawer. You HAVE to buy the 8-32 thread LEE Stems and the Lee Cutter with a 8-32 adaptor for the case centers. It is part # 90468 to fit into almost ANY of these case prep centers that take 8-32 male threaded cutters /accessories. OK So Now, I just need to buy ALL the 8-32 Threaded case length stems from LEE, One At A Time at $5.00 to $10.00 each for every caliber I have. What a pain, and a costly mistake, but I did get 2 decent, steel, shell/case holders from these two $34.00 sets from Lyman, and a pile of stuff that wont work on case prep stations. So Just buy EVERYTHING from LEE for Your case prep stations and Throw the Lee Aluminum case holders in the garbage and buy that individually from Lyman. Nothing else interchanges at all. (Nothing in these Lyman sets fits these case prep stations) I'm sure its great for using a hand drill tho. Hope that helps others.

      Dive into these. Sorry man!! I was fixated on the crap LEE case head holder and this one was as perfect for my personal wants I didnt care about the rest!!
      So YES I (everyone) would still need LeE to utalize the holder on a electric case prep like my (our) RCBS Boss unit. (Same
      Same for Frankfort or Lyman. DIFFERRENT FOR HORNADY as anyone buying any of there case prep stuff should already know. Grrr)

    • @cw2a
      @cw2a  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These style trimers use a set length so I dont believe they will work for you to do this.
      But most any standard case trimmer will
      Cut to any length you need.
