I saw the original with Ms. Mills in it's first year. I am 72 now. I was blown away then and still am. Last night I saw the latest revival. Stephanie Mills can proudly stand with the late great Charlie Smalls to the necessary breaking down of barriers to showcase the incredible reservoir of African American talent we are blessed to have in America. THE WIZ is the real deal, iconic in very respect. Thank you to everyone who has ever performed any role in any location.
God knew where He wanted Stephanie Mills to be; for that reason, she wasn't in the movie. Possibly, the reason is that the Broadway event was Stephanie's moment in time; it was the original beginning. God produced and created it to bring people together, and that's how God wanted it. The logic behind that is that the origin of a substance is what everything else of it and around it is based upon. The moral is that God gives you just enough to get you along the way. God shines a light on you; nothing else can take that light away.
She's such a awesome mother and awesome woman !!! I really admire and love her beautiful spirit !!!! She's absolutely stunning and beautiful inside and out !!! I'm so glad that I grew up hearing her beautiful unique voice. 💕 God bless you and your son !!! 🙏
Many people say that Stephanie Mills should have done the movie based on the Tony Award-winning musical she starred in, The Wiz. However, they don't realize that God knew where HE wanted Stephanie Mills to be; for that reason, she wasn't in the movie. Possibly, the reason is that the Broadway musical was Stephanie's moment in time; it was the original beginning. God created it to unite people, and that's how HE wanted it. The logic behind that is that the foundation of what everything else is based on is its beginning. The moral is that in the beginning, God gives you just enough light to allow you to see your way. And when God shines HIS light on you, nothing and no one else can ever take that light away. Another thing, Stephanie is a big Diana Ross fan and did not have any desire to play Dorothy on film. As I already mentioned, she had originated the role on Broadway. She has been asked this question many times and continues to express no bad feelings toward Motown, Berry Gordy or Diana.
I suspect the Wiz (the movie) would been a greater success had Stephanie been given the movie lead role. it was truly a missed opportunity as Diana Ross looked like Dorothy's mother rather than a 24 year old girl. YT Video 'Stephanie Mills "Home" (1976) on the Sammy Davis Jr. Show!' if you want proof Stephanie was the right person for the movie role. Diana deserves a rotten tomato for NOT recognizing she was not the right performer for that moment.
I love how she sang it in the gospel tone. The grit in her voice is incredible. Her alto treble is replaced with deep Mahalia Jackson soul. Sounds good.
I remember when Devale was talking about every time he auditioned it would someone in jail and then he went into getting a part in sisters. He was tied up in one of weak relationships, ( Karen ) But then came a powerhouse that they call Crystal/ Fatima and that chemistry clash and boom, they have climbing since,(between their ability of their craft and the fans loving them) makes it stronger. But all know we the fans of Crystal have her back.Surely glad that Tyler taken a chance on both of them.

YAAAS! So true!! Thank you for making that testament! ✨
She should get a standing ovation just for singing the same song after all these years. No key changes at that.
Keep at it as long as you can Stephanie!! You should have been in the movie The Wiz.
I agree.
