This channel has become one of my new favorites! Thanks for the great content! And thanks for the At a Glance Widgy Widget! Love how much better it has made my iPhone experience! Also love how you break everything down in the video description!
in my use case I feel like iPad Pro and Mac mini would be my best combo. For my day to day a tablet is all I need. And when ever I need to sit down at a desk to do “desk things” a Mac mini is plenty powerful to accomplish those tasks and avoid all those hassles one goes through to make an iPad desk setup.
I’m currently using this setup. Universal control would be amazing if you could set the default location above or below, rather than just sides, but I make it work by just opening display settings every few hours to reconnect it all. Otherwise, it’s a flawless setup as much as Apple allows it to be.
You can turn off auto lock and and turn off lock/unlock in the display and brightness settings which will let you use the iPad Pro in clamshell mode. It's not perfect but it works.
Thank you so much for the helpful video! I’m hoping you can answer a quick question. I’m a therapist and want to use my iPad as my primary work computer. Is it possible, when in remote sessions, could my clients see me on an external caméra while i share my iPad screen? Thank you !
Fully agree. I'm always fascinated by the idea of using my ipad for more actual work, but iPadOS always frustrates me really quickly when I try to do anything more than simple stuff. My MacBook Pro remains the big workhorse.
I wonder how it works using a MBP and external monitor and an iPad as an extra display. Can you still use the pencil on it? Then when having meetings with team members I could draw out diagrams in the meeting live. that would be neat
Great Video! Super useful tips to have an iPad as the main device. What would you recommend to have a dual set up with an IPad and a windows laptop? When I connect my IPad to the Thinkpad dock it doesn’t project the video. Is this because DisplayLink? I see in your video with the CalDigit Dock it works fine.
Amazing channel and really cool dude with european humor. I had only 2 subscriptions to Technology Reviewers ( Mobiletech review and Nick ackerman), you easily became my third. Greetings from Germany and Greece
Is there anyway to control the apps in the external screen? This is so good because I like using my iPad paired to tv or external monitor when I travel but it seems I need a trackpad or mouse in order to fully open apps in the external screen.
As of now, you can only use one of the later iPads with M1 chip at minimum to allow the use of Apps on an external monitor. Ways to use this are to (as you suggest) connect to a Bluetooth mouse & keyboard, or to a single device if you have a keyboard with a touchpad (e.g. Logitech K600 (TV)) or to a monitor with a hub that you can connect to with USBc/Thunderbolt. Otherwise, you are limited to replicating your iPad screen. If you can see the bottom bar on your iPad AND on your screen, selecting an app on your screen will open on your screen. Hope that helps somewhat. Also, if you want sound, ideally you will connect to a monitor with built in speakers. Trying to use it with headphones doesn’t appear to work, connected to either your iPad via Bluetooth or jacked into your monitor. I haven’t tried it with a USB-connected soundbar but in any case, it’s YMMV on that score.
@@3232groundhog Hello, I meant controlling the app in the second screen without a mouse. I just want to send some apps to the external screen and use them in full screen but I can’t manage to do it. Obviously, If I mirror the screen, I get the aspect ratio of the iPad which is not ideal for this purpose.
HI. I have an iPad a2013 with 18.1. In settings I don’t see the setting for extended monitor in display & brightness settings. Is my iPad too old? It does work in mirror mode, but like you said that doesn’t seem worth it. Oh. I am using a dock with connection via hdmi
Great video! What mouse would you recommend using for iPad? Because my Corsair mouse works terribly with the iPad, the cursor is laggy and unresponsive. Is there a reason for that?
With my external display (Huawei Mate), the ipad Pro. M4 is only displayed when it is charged! Before that, the display does not recognize any signal from the ipad. Strange. I didn't have this problem with the ipad Pro M1.
Can you please make a video of once on your iPad like you used to like which apps do you have your set up and settings etc. I would really love to see one of the new iPad with iOS 18 if you don’t mind
Im having difficulty to get the monitor to work properly in the extended mode, by some reason it just works on the left side of the display. I have an Acer nitro 180hz FHD ips monitor and M2 ipad pro. Have tried several monitors and all of them have the same outcome. Heeelp pleasee
This is the first video of yours I've come across, and MAN I love your camera work. Bravo. Amazing information to top it off so I got what I came for too lol.
Apple notes: After update the heating issue is mostly resolved but there few new issues now. 1. The auto refining of figures is working fine usually but not working properly in pdfs. This is happening due to zooming in in the pdf (as similar is happening with freeform when zoomed in) 2. Blue dots appear and disappear constantly while I write (handwritten) in pdfs.
Yo, i have been using this for over a year now, but now all of the sudden my monitor just goes out at random when i plug in a headset or a charging cable and now with the new IOs 18? update nothing works anymore, i am in the exact same display settings as you are but i cant turn of mirroring

I’ve always dreamed of the perfect iPad desk setup, but I always find ipadOS severely lacking. I inevitably end up annoyed trying to make it work and just go back to my MacBook
Great video! But screw Apple, for this price the experience with an external monitor is below any standard. This is really inexcusable! I was having high hopes about this device, but your video showed me it's actually useless. Wasted power and too bad for its other qualities.
Useless *for you*, I have been using Windows for years, and a very technical user, I wanted a MacBook but went for the full iPad m4 setup, and I love it FOR MOBILE COMPUTING, I still use a gaming desktop for well gaming, and more advanced things, but I feel the iPad could easily be a main computer for people who don't game and don't do 3D Modelling in maybe 1 or 2 more years of meaningful software changes, even minimal changes.

Hey man it’s a personal decision because if ur talking from a school aspect it’s absolutely worth it as it give you the touch screen and the convenience of a keyboard.
