Honestly Cena would have been an amazing heel in ECW. He would be the exact prototype for everything ECW rebelled against and would generate massive heat.
I still watch ECW everyday and Cena would be pure "get out heat" cause of what he is, and that he is everything what WWE represents, super fake, super goody goody like a hulk Hogan type of super hero is the opposite of what this ECW 90s program wants to see. He'd be a good heel for a ONE time feud but after he gets killed by Sandman, people will sing nah nah nah hey hey hey good bye and never wanna see him honestly. Cause we even wanna see the ECW heels be hardcore and crazy assholes, not be a annoying go away heat. Here's a fun fact to keep in mind is that Cena literally drew off all attitude era fans all after 2003 when they started making him the main guy, meaning hardcore fans just don't like seeing him period. Heel or face.. he's not hardcore. To us 90s hardcore fans his image is go away heat.
It kind of depends... If Cena starts in ECW in the 90s he'd be a very different character. If ECW stays around in the 2000s when Cena was at the top of WWE and got to do something in ECW then yeah.
If the Sraight Edge Society existed in The ECW era, they definitely would've been behind The Sandmans crucifixion, the "Alcoholic" sandman being a perfect foil for him

You already said about Moxley, now we can talk about Sami Callihan, who is a little madder and (back in late 00s) more ultraviolent than him. Their opponents of choice are the Eliminators or the Gangstas • Jacob Fatu. Give him the lead of the Samoan Gangsta Party, and they'd have shined in Philly. His opponent? Probably Mike Awesome or John Kronus. • Darby Allin With the rise of skating culture in late 90s he'd been a huge star. And he could be extreme. I do know that C.D. had some matches in ECW. I will say I would have loved to seen him in his prime at ECW. He is one of the best technical wrestlers out there. He puts great matches every time he is in the ring.
Great list. Workers that came to my mind as well were: - Cesaro: Claudio can go Strong Style, Lucha (thanks to his training with Quackenbush) and is an amazing technical wrestler. Not only could he go with smaller guys, but also slug it out with the likes of Tanaka or Awesome. - Sami Calihan: no doubt, with his history in promotions like CZW he would have fit right in. Just imagine: Switchblade Conspiracy (Calihan and Moxley) v the Dudleys. Damn...that's a dream hardcore match right there. - Leo Kruger: yeah, this one might come out of left field, and yeah, let's not think about that this guy became Adam Rose. But the Kruger character, which already was pretty good, could have been flushed out sooooo much better in an extreme environment. - Minoro Suzuki, Tomohiro Ishii, Daisuke Sekimoto, Takeshi Morishima: well, I don't think, this needs a lot of explaining - Thumbtack Jack and John "Bad Bones" Klinger: ok, national bias here, but I thought about what German wrestlers would fit in there. TJ is THE German Hardcore Icon and a staple of the early wXw. He also worked for and with CZW, IWA-MS and BJW, so he wasn't unknown. Bad Bones on the other hand is just a tough SOB. Similar to Taz in terms of style I would say...and talking about national, or in this case, continental bias... - WALTER: just watch his match with Dragunov from this year... - Mance Warner: another more obvious choice: great hardcore wrestler, but also doesn't lack in the charisma department and lastly (though there are probably sooooo many more names): - Bray Wyatt: the creativity in this man is off the charts. Just imagine Heyman giving him card blanche in terms of creativity.
Joey Janela for sure, would've fit in. Matt Sydal. Oh, and if ECW would've had a women's division...there are SO many Joshi I could name. Hell, there are so many American and UK women's wrestlers that would have been great fits. Ruby Riott? Session Moth Martina? Shotzi Blackheart?
Enzo and Cass would've been Dope in ECW version 1(Cass was a slightly more talented version of Paul Heymans 911) Impacts Brian Cage is Mike Awesome if he actually was able to reach his Full Potential.WWE's Chad Gable is what Kurt Angle would've become if he Stayed in ECW,I could've seen him working against Shane Douglas's Triple Threat.Tessa Blanchard in Impact right now, would be over in ECW,more than Nicole Bass ever was,Joey Janela is a No Brainer(him and Sabu, take my money now!!)
Here's my list, Outside of thos mentioned by @Dave Knows Wrestling Lance Archer..Him vs Mike Awesome or in a tag team with Awesome Ospreay..jerry Lynn, RVD, Rey the list goes on Jeff Cobb...Suplex battle with Tazz Suzuki vs New Jack. ALL OF LI/J La Sombra to Naito...Yes, you got the bWo but your real answer to the NWO is LI/J you can have a Faction Civil war and everyone who has been a member a Star. The USO's...The current gimmick OvE & Sanity..Pure Chaos the line "You want a War...we'll give you a war" I can hear Sami or Eric say it and both groups tear the house down. Lio Rush...Trash Talking, Live Mic having Rush...vs Steve Corino as Leader of the last days of ECW.
Fuck, i was just thinking about tazz vs samoajoe or even walter, callihan or ishii and makabe... That forgot about cobb... OMG just imagine tazz vs matanza cueto!!!!!
Dave Knows Wrestling I feel like it wouldn’t be bad and smackdown should have a heel gm unless it’s teddy but he retired but I feel like jbl would be perfect kuz his rich gimmick he can always pay others to do dirty work but with the his chief of staff and defense team it would be good to see
My pick: Atsushi Onita Joey Ryan Joey Janela EVIL Tomoaki Honma Rowdy Roddy Piper Abdulah the Butcher The Great Muta Enzo and Cass Elias Roderick Strong Kevin Owens/Steen Kassius Ohno/Chris Hero Gangrel
AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels would have been great also. I would've loved to see a Corino vs Punk main event program in 2003 ish. If the promotion hadn't closed.
ECW would have been a great promotion for those who are more pro wrestlers rather than sports entertainment. Imagine a ROH vs ECW PPV would be awesome.
I only disagree with Ziggler. The 10 I would add would be Nick Gage, Mance Warner, Daniel Makabe, Low Ki, Joey Janela, Eddie Kingston, Cesaro, WALTER, Homicide, and Rush. Fun fact: Heyman stated ECW was supposed to eventually become what ROH did and be more wrestling based. Guys like Joe, Hero, and Punk were on their radar.
Always saw ROH as an extension/continuation of ECW since its inception in 2002. It has that underground cult like vibe. All of that talent would've gotten over and excelled in ECW.
I would’ve loved to see Jeff Hardy or Darby there too because they could be apart of the good technical wrestling group and the Extreme group. Suzuki would’ve been a star there too
I just turned 30 on October 2nd and I was fortunate enough to discover ECW around 1998 or 1999 when it was on TNN quickly replacing WCW as my favorite wrestling promotion and RVD replacing Rey Mysterio as my favorite wrestler and that says alot considering how much I love Luchadores.

Tomoaki Honma: Makabe's partner in crime during the Great Bash Heel period, he was at his peak at the turn of the millennium. He was a deathmatch guy (he basically was the pioneer of the lighttubes in hardcore wrestling) in FMW and BJW. Him and his eternal US rival John Zandig would have fit awesomely in ECW

On WWE.com there was a “What If” like interview with Heyman and Dreamer (I think) talking about what if ECW carried on. I’m pretty sure they named names on who they wanted.
Wrestler who been great in ECW Some Joe - next Tazz, Death Rollins - him taken the touch from RVD classic. Shinkia Nantokmira- I tried spell his name. He would been great in ECW. Paul E. only American promoter that knew punish Japanese wrestlers. Agree with Dolph Ziggler he would been Shane Douglas . Great heel also good on the mic. C.M. Punk enough said. AJ. Styles- Philly fans would of loved him. Briseco Brothers- They took over where Dudleys left off. Last but not lease Jay Leathle - He would had balance and comedy get over with the Philly faithful.
@@DaveKnowsWrestling Yes. Perhaps my comment wasn't clear. What I meant was that you pointed out (rightfully so) the technical prowess of Lance Storm and Jerry Lynn yet failed to mention anything about Credible or Corino. Whom I would attest put on some of the best ECW matches of all time.

Great list. Workers that came to my mind as well were:
- Cesaro: Claudio can go Strong Style, Lucha (thanks to his training with Quackenbush) and is an amazing technical wrestler.
- Minoro Suzuki, Tomohiro Ishii, Daisuke Sekimoto, Takeshi Morishima: well, I don't think, this needs a lot of explaining
- Thumbtack Jack and John "Bad Bones" Klinger: ok, national bias here, but I thought about what German wrestlers would fit in there.
- Mance Warner: another more obvious choice: great hardcore wrestler, but also doesn't lack in the charisma department
and lastly (though there are probably sooooo many more names):
- Bray Wyatt: the creativity in this man is off the charts. Just imagine Heyman giving him card blanche in terms of creativity.
Those are some great answers too... I am a total Cesaro mark so I'm hard pressed to argue there
Joey Janela for sure, would've fit in. Matt Sydal. Oh, and if ECW would've had a women's division...there are SO many Joshi I could name. Hell, there are so many American and UK women's wrestlers that would have been great fits. Ruby Riott? Session Moth Martina? Shotzi Blackheart?
Pentagon Jr
Kevin Steen
John Cena ( Heel heat)
Jon Moxley
Shingo Takagi
War Raiders
"The Cleaner" Kenny Omega
PCO
MJF
Cool list
Pco and brodie
Maimie Yangala PCO was in ECW
I could see that happening
Both Briscoes have said in interviews that they would've gone to ECW if it was an option back then.
Briscoes would have been so good in ECW
Makabe hit his peak in like 2010 which was well before the Never title existed lol
He was good then, but his work with Ishii will always be my favorite
7. Abyss 6. Nick Gage 5. Jon Moxely 4. Necro Butcher 3. Togi Makabe 2. Orange Cassidy 1. Kenny Omega
What about wrestlers who were active and in their prime at the time but never went to Philadelphia? Who were the truly missed opportunities?
Such as?
Hardcore Holly, Kurt Angle, Hardy Boyz, Edge and Christian, New Age Outlaws, Bret Hart, Goldberg, DDP, Shane Helms, Big Show, Mr Perfect, etc.
Here's my list, Outside of thos mentioned by @Dave Knows Wrestling
Lance Archer..Him vs Mike Awesome or in a tag team with Awesome
Ospreay..jerry Lynn, RVD, Rey the list goes on
Jeff Cobb...Suplex battle with Tazz
Suzuki vs New Jack.
ALL OF LI/J La Sombra to Naito...Yes, you got the bWo but your real answer to the NWO is LI/J you can have a Faction Civil war and everyone who has been a member a Star.
The USO's...The current gimmick
OvE & Sanity..Pure Chaos the line "You want a War...we'll give you a war" I can hear Sami or Eric say it and both groups tear the house down.
Even more now, Young (now known as "the World-Class Maniac") would have suited in ECW as an heel
CM Punk, Edge, Jon Moxley/Dean Ambrose, Tessa Blanchard, Samoa Joe, Sami Callihan, Homicide, and John Cena as a massive heel.
Good picks
Dave off subject I think jbl would be a great SD heel gm especially if he bring back orlando Jordan & the Bashambrothers on his side again
You you're really fond of that time in WWE I see
Dave Knows Wrestling I feel like it wouldn’t be bad and smackdown should have a heel gm unless it’s teddy but he retired but I feel like jbl would be perfect kuz his rich gimmick he can always pay others to do dirty work but with the his chief of staff and defense team it would be good to see
My pick:
Atsushi Onita
Joey Ryan
Joey Janela
EVIL
Tomoaki Honma
Rowdy Roddy Piper
Abdulah the Butcher
The Great Muta
Enzo and Cass
Elias
Roderick Strong
Kevin Owens/Steen
Kassius Ohno/Chris Hero
Gangrel
Thanks for your list
Jun Kasai, Matt Tremont, Trent Acid, J.C. Bailey, Necro Butcher would be awesome.
Those are def some real good picks. This game is fun isn't it
Will give honourable mentions Homicide, Low Ki,James Storm and New Age Outlaws .
The Outlaws are new, never heard anyone say them before
@@DaveKnowsWrestling Well they were known as the New Age Outlaws around the time that the original ECW was in business.
Punk is very charismatic
AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels would have been great also. I would've loved to see a Corino vs Punk main event program in 2003 ish. If the promotion hadn't closed.
I think they would work in ECW too
The Briscoes are straight Gangsta
Everytime you said Chris I was expecting a Benoit
Nick gage Joey janela and Darby allin would have all been dope in ECW
imagine nick gage vs fucking new Jack
Nick Gage, my Man for sure
Ricochet and Will Osprey would've been good ones
Not for ECW, but would have loved to see these guys in TNA during the X Division heyday.
Yeah I almost included them
Ricochet almost did it in the X-Division... when he was less jacked than now, was growing a little mohawk and was starting to get a contact with CIMA
ECW would have been a great promotion for those who are more pro wrestlers rather than sports entertainment. Imagine a ROH vs ECW PPV would be awesome.
That would have been a great crossover
I only disagree with Ziggler. The 10 I would add would be Nick Gage, Mance Warner, Daniel Makabe, Low Ki, Joey Janela, Eddie Kingston, Cesaro, WALTER, Homicide, and Rush. Fun fact: Heyman stated ECW was supposed to eventually become what ROH did and be more wrestling based. Guys like Joe, Hero, and Punk were on their radar.
Oh yeah, Heyman's statement was part of the inspiration for this video
The Notorious 187 HOMICIDE Is Perfect For ECW! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
He sure is a great talent
Just rewatching this one. On Makabe and his chains: He obiously was influenced by Bruiser Brody. What would you think about Brody in ECW?
Oh I think Brody would be a great fit in ECW if he had been there
@@DaveKnowsWrestling Maybe another list for the future. People who came too soon for ECW. ;) Well, keep it up, Dave.
Always saw ROH as an extension/continuation of ECW since its inception in 2002.
It has that underground cult like vibe.
All of that talent would've gotten over and excelled in ECW.
Yes they do have a lot of similarities
the Founder of ROH said that it was a continuation of ECW's more technical side.
Happy Belated Birthday
@@DaveKnowsWrestling Appreciate it so much! Big fan of your channel as of lately since I've only recently just discovered it.It's actually funny how I got here from a Fire Pro Wrestling videogame forum where someone had posted your video explaining the Origins of "KING'S ROAD STYLE" I clicked on it for educational purposes and have been here every since.
Honma would be yet another great addition to the Extreme brand. Good call
Just my opinion here (I know this videos been out a year but I’m new to your channel)
Hardcore Holly
Sami Callahan
Kevin Steen/Owens
The Briscoes
Vader
Scott Steiner as Big Poppa Pump
Would all have been fantastic in ECW in my opinion
Those are some good choices too for who would have been good in ECW. I particularly like KO
imo
Outstanding list.
I agree with all your choices.
You could run this out to many vids...and I hope you do.
Also...how about women who would have been great in the real ECW?
Aja Kong, Luna Vachon, and ODB come to mind immediately.
imo
ODB and Luna for sure.. yeah this could be a whole series
@@DaveKnowsWrestling There was a time when ODB was my primary reason for watching TNA/Impact/whatever.
pentagon jr, also the young bucks
Great picks
How about Jimmy Havoc? Umaga perhaps? AJ Styles would've been at home with guys like Dean Malenko, Chris Benoit, Chris Cándido or Eddie Guerrero.
Yeah they would have been good too
Say hello to the blue guy!
Dave! Dave! Dave! Do you even FMW?
I have mentioned it before
Masada
The Great Muta would have fitted well in ECW he is also my favorite wrestler of all time
He def would have been interesting to see in ECW
My top 3
Sinn Bhodi
his insane brawling skills would have made him right at home in ravens flock
Jacob Fatu
What is there to say about a man that size who can move like he can, his matches in PCW and MLW have shown he can brawl with the best
Doctor Wagner Jr
One of Mexico's finest, unlike the other two I put him on the list not because of his hardcore skills, but Because of his heart, the ECW faithful would have welcomed him
On WWE.com there was a “What If” like interview with Heyman and Dreamer (I think) talking about what if ECW carried on. I’m pretty sure they named names on who they wanted.
Cool, sounds like a good read
I miss ECW 😢 #ECW4LIFE
Everyone who knows ECW misses it
The Briscoes
AJ and Lethal were two guys I just missed the list here
Orange Cassidy would have his head caved in by The Sandman and his trademark stick
I see them as being friends rather than enemies, but that might just be me
Pentagon would have been great there!
Yeah he would
Here would be World Champion in ECW
Jimmy Jacobs would have fit beautifully.
Not a bad choice
You forgot Supper Humman
Did I?
@@DaveKnowsWrestling yes you did pal
AEW "stars" would be getting squashed by Blue Meanie, Simon Diamond, New Jack, etc. AEW roster = Not ECW material AT ALLLLL!!!
What about the monster abyss
Yeah Abyss could
As a fan of the original ECW, I think two glaring omissions you failed to mention are Justin Credible and Steve Corino.
Both of them were ECW World champions....seriously man
Both were in ECW
He must of been joking surely
@@DaveKnowsWrestling Yes. Perhaps my comment wasn't clear. What I meant was that you pointed out (rightfully so) the technical prowess of Lance Storm and Jerry Lynn yet failed to mention anything about Credible or Corino. Whom I would attest put on some of the best ECW matches of all time.
I think the Lucha bros would've been perfect in the original ECW.
They sure would have been
Abyss (Being he feuded with allot of old ECW guys and that he was manage by Father James Mitchell)
Jon Moxley
LAX
OVE
Darby Allin
Samoa Joe
Pentagon & Fenix
Jimmy Havic
Rose Mary
Awesome Kong
Roxxi
Nikki Cross
ODB
Homicide and Hernandez
Ortiz and Santana
Bruiser Brody (To bad he died before ECW was around)
Abdullah The Butcher
Loads of great picks.. I like where your heads at
