    The problem with the parchment paper is you need to put the waxy side on the canvas. I didn't realize there was two sides and my paper stuck to the canvas and ruined it. Please tell people which side of the parchment paper to put on the canvas.

      Kathy Gambsky Oh no!! My parchment is non-stick on both sides, so that didn’t occur to me. I will pin your post in hopes that it will prevent problems for people. 😢

      Kathy Gambsky Parchment paper doesn’t have wax- it’s why you can bake with it. Wax paper is different all together. Check the box and see which one you actually have. It’s a common mistake, they are sold in the same area in stores. I’m sorry your project was ruined.🤗💜

      Kathy, I just read a dp hack put out by Artful Diamonds(on Pinterest).Use baby wipes(yes baby wipes) to clean off debris, pet hair, etc. They say that the sticky will return to the canvas when dry. I have some on hand for stamping so I'll give it a try when necessary. It's worth a try...☺
      UPDATE: On 6/6/20 (that's when I viewd the video)Mrs. Crochet & Coffee sez to use a blow dryer after you use the baby wipes. Will give this a try as well😎

    Save the paper from the canvases that you have finished, cut into squares they’re just right for the job. At least then you know it will release easily and not stick to the canvas.

    I have been diamond painting now for about six years. One of the most valuable lessons that I learned was purchasing a good straightening tool. I have compared crooked drills to those I have taken the time to straighten and the images are sharper, and look nicer up close. The best straightening tool I have ever purchased is a thin metal tool versus the plastic ones. I straighten as I go in sections. Then I take a look at the overall painting when I am done and again straighten where I see it is needed. I guess I am a bit of a perfectionist. This tool is invaluable to me. I love your video, thank you so much.

    I watched several dp videos b4 starting. That way I knew what I was in for. Another hint I learned: if the dp is small (25cm x 25 cm) go w/round drills. But the thing that helped a bunch is a chart that I made showing centimeters to inches. Did it by 5's (5cms, 10 cms etc.) So I could envision how big it it would be. Now I automatically order 45cm & up. I have a 50cm x 70 (75?) cm to do. Plus I do squares cuz I love detail. Some only came in round drills though. From TH-cam I learned how to convert pens into dp pens.So to sum up, I adapted some things for doing dp, the rest I got from Dollar Tree. You do not have to buy everything and you don't have to buy it all at once🤩

    The one thing as an experienced dp'er I have learned is something for the new diamond painters. Start slow. Everything you need to do a diamond painting is included in the kit. Make sure this is a hobby you REALLY want to do, in the long term. Except for a light board, don't go out and buy everything you see or hear about for diamond painting right away. Make sure you really want to make it a long term hobby, before you invest a lot of money into all the accessories. I have had people sell me boxes full of dp stuff, because they weren't as interested as they thought.

I already had a light board and a box to put stuff in (I was planning to paint it and still am). I have a paint palette to put multiple colours of drills (ones with dips in lol). The only thing I have bought for the paintings are the actual canvases and some more tools. So even is I end up not being so into it, it's really not that big of a deal.

    I LOVED this video! I am working on my very first Diamond Painting and I'm hooked - EXCEPT for the fact that I can only do a small bit of "painting" before I am in terrible pain. I never thought about getting an adjustable easel or drafting table and how it would help with that issue! I was so excited about this new hobby that I bought five other kits - which I wasn't going to be able to use because of the pain factor. So THANK YOU for that excellent tip! I ALSO was very interested in hearing about the different glues which come on the kits. I was wondering if you seal your finished projects? I watched a couple of videos about sealing before I saw your "7 Hints" video. And finally - thank you for pointing about the licensing issues. It is something that hadn't occurred to me, and I will keep my eyes open from this point forward!

I had terrible neck issues before I started using my easel, so I hope this helps you! :) I still have to alter the angle regularly and make sure I can rest my elbows on the table, but it has really helped. :) If I'm doing canvases from really reputable companies I typically don't seal. I usually save sealing for canvases I'm not positive will hold up well. :) Thanks for hanging out!

    YES to the comfortable area!!!
    I started on my kitchen table. Being autistic, 6'4" and having had 2 failed back surgeries, after the first session (I sat for about 4 hours with breaks every hour--thanks to my husband for nipping at my heels and getting me off my butt) I didn't sleep the whole night for the pain and swelling in my legs and feet. The next day when I sat, my shoulder and neck were agony. So, I asked him to get my old drafting table from our storage barn. We cleaned it up, raised it as high as it will go (which makes it about 4 inches higher than our kitchen table) put me a good wooden chair at it and now I can sit much more comfortably.
    I'm starting my first ever square drill art as soon as it gets here tomorrow. Thank you for your suggestions, I've only been at this for about six months.
    I'd also like to say...I bought my first, idk, 10-12 kits from HL "Leisure Arts", which is a subsidiary of Diamond Dotz. Looking back...I can only hope their art wasn't pirated. I felt just awful hearing that. I've graduated to Diamond Art Club now, I absolutely LOVE them, and I took a snapshot of your list so that I can look at those companies, too. Thanks again, and happy dotting!

    Good video. As far as the squares vs rounds, if you get. 30x40cm in squares, then you would need to get a 40x60 in rounds to get the detail that you would get in the 30x40 square. Also I wished that before I purchased so many square diamond paintings, that I should have bought only one square and one round to see which one I enjoyed doing the most. I have I think $400 dollars worth of kits in my closet that are squares that I will never do, because I found out that I love doing rounds so much.

    I started by doing a beginners and then became addicted to the diamond 💎 stitching. I’ve only just finished 30 by 40 peacock last night and done it with the glitter diamond beads.
    I received mine with the sticky clear plastic. I was afraid of getting dust or loosing the stickiness but it survived. At first I didn’t know what to do so I remembered seeing some women cutting their work into 3 strips of paper so I done this with the parchment paper.
    I’ll be starting on the Virgin Mary next.

    Thank you for these tips! My first kit is arriving on Wednesday. It's from a reputable cross-stitch company that has made some of its kits available as diamond paintings (and, as you pointed out, the name of the artist is on the webpage) That's maybe another source to to consider, and a cross-stitch or needlepoint pattern is already designed to look good at a small size, unlike a photograph converted into a chart. I've been dismayed at some of the total rip-offs of art that I've seen online. My kit has square drills so I'm going to watch your placement video next :-)

    Great video Jess as always.
    My only advice is to newbies is, don't believe everything people tell you about any one company and there is NO such thing as a kit with all perfect drills.
    Also, when starting a square drill canvas, start in the middle and work out.

      @@tracygoodenough7198 Tracy I have found very few if any popping drills. I also start at the bottom. By working out and down or out and up, you are allowing the drills to move in a natural motion by expanding out. If you stop and think about it, by moving inward you aren't giving the drills anywhere to go so they are going to **pop up**. Shoot, hope that makes sense. 😍

    Hi, can you explain to me what you meant by “parchment paper” to use when you roll back the clear plastic sheet on the canvass. Do you cover most of the sticky canvas with the parchment paper and only work on a block at a time?

    • @tinyworldsofwonder
      @tinyworldsofwonder  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's a great question. I just pull back one horizontal section of the plastic and put a row of parchment or release paper, leaving the rest of the plastic cover on. Be sure to test your parchment paper on one tiny area of the canvas first to be sure you won't have issues with the adhesive sticking. :) I also like to save the release paper from my double sided adhesive canvases to use with my clear cover canvases. :)

    • @BBMc107
      @BBMc107 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Parchment paper is sold on a roll in the same grocery aisle as tin foil and plastic wrap. Wax paper is NOT the same as parchment paper. Use only parchment paper. As I wanted to play with the diamond painting and not spend a lot of time cutting, I bought parchment squares on Amazon in 4” squares as that is a good size for me (and for separating hamburger patties and rum balls).

Last month they were featuring an artist - Lioba Bruckner. I liked the art work so I ordered two canvases. I’ve gotten confirmation that they have shipped my order. shipping is taking awhile because they ship from their factory in China. I got my Dreamer Designs intro kit today so I have projects to work on. I’m really excited about the castle! I will be happy to let you know what I think once my order arrives. I received my castle finally. It's by Lioba Bruckner. Its double sided adhesive. The covering is in strips about two inches wide. This canvas is 80 cm x 100 cm, square drills.
      I havent unrolled it yet because I dont have a place that wide to hang it. The drills look good - I think there are 47 colors. I expect i will be ordering again. I want to work on the castle first to be certain.

    I have kind of a random question. Sorry if you have a video about it, I only just found your channel last night. Have you ever made your own blank canvas for freehand? I know they sell blank premade ones, but they are a bit pricey for someone who would need a lot of them. So yeah, I was just wondering if you ever made your own or know how one would even go about doing so.
    Thanks! -Gina

      Hi, Gina!! Welcome to this fun hobby! That is a great question! I am in the process of working on my first one now, and a video will be coming soon. I have one I'm working up as a Diamond Dotz Freestyle design from my own pattern, and I have one in the works from HAED as well. More to come soon - hopefully! :) I agree - the blank canvases are expensive. I think most of the time it's more cost effective to order kits as custom diamond paintings sadly. I have a blank canvas and drills from Cooper Diamond Art for my HAED project and had a good experience with their service. I just sent them the size of my design and the color list, and they were able to ship me the canvas and drills really quickly and easily.

    Hi, I just did my first diamond painting last night and havre one more to do. Today, I began Googling info and came across this video. OMG! Thank you for the list of where to buy and most of all about the Number Seven tip. So good to know this before I invest my $$$ on canvases. I would venture to say that since I got both my prints thru a site last summer for really cheap, they are copyrighted and are not legal. Oops! I just know the larger image is one I’ve seen all over the internet so never gave a thought to copyright issues. Now I know that I enjoy this craft, I will look for authentic canvases which list the author, from the sites you listed. Again Thank you for this video. Do paintings that have the double sided opaque paper also have that sticky outside of the painting?

Traditionally its for sticking posters etc to walls. BUT It's brilliant for DP!!! .. I never have to refill during a session (well rarely), easy to fill, no residue, isn't messy, totally reusable, if you get some on your canvas it doesn't interfere with canvas stickiness and a little goes a VERY long way... Brilliant!! I got a white packet from IKEA.. Works like it was made for it! x ✨✨✨

Any other time I've sat there poking mad prodding very aggressively trying to get it in the pen but it acts more like gum than wax. So it doesn't break off inside I've literally fought it trying to stretch the pen through. When it did work it was very successful and long lasting, but in the end I'm a little disappointed so I guess I'll be constantly redipping on regular wax.

      Sorry I missed this question, but I see my community gave you great answers! :) DP manufacturers typically buy their drills from an outside source, and often these drills have slightly different dye lots. Often the variation isn't too extreme, but occasionally two of the same DMC colors can be vastly different!

    I just started doing diamond paintings. I take my canvas to my bathroom and use my blow dryer on the canvas to heat it up to level up the adhesive before I start. I don't know if it's good or bad but it did help to flatten out the canvas from being rolled up. Please tell me if I shouldn't do this.

    • @tinyworldsofwonder
      @tinyworldsofwonder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Deanne Angus I’m not sure! :) Heat does effect adhesive, but I don’t know if a hair dryer is hot enough to do damage or not. That is certainly an intriguing idea!!

    Just started my 1st Diamond Art and the static is making me crazy! The gems won't pour out of the cellophane bags without attaching themselves to everything then there's gems left in the bag that I try to scrape out with a little spoon then they all attach to the spoon.

    • @tinyworldsofwonder
      @tinyworldsofwonder  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ugh, that’s the worst!! I just finished a Diamond Dotz like that. I ended up dumping the drills onto a dryer sheet inside my boat, then pouring them into another container off the dryer sheet. It helped quite a lot, but it was so frustrating! 😢

    I wish I had known 1)there is such a thing as a diamond painting that is too Big. 150 cm by 100 cm swallows any work surface and 2) Double sided adhesive on a large canvas like the one mentioned in point one has a lot of problems with bubbles and rivers and the problems grow over time.
    Great video! Thank you

    One thing that I leaned after getting a custom drill pen, multi placers are amazing!
    Also a personal preference, find an easy way to store your drills. For me, I hated going through the ziplocks when I only had about 5 of one or another diamond to place. I felt like I was taking more time switching colors then doing my painting.

    Hi, this was an excellent video and just starting my 2nd diamond painting. Your information was very good and I immediatley thought that an easel and light pad would be a good purchase, however, the easel does not ship to the UK and the light pad is not available, would you have any other recommendations? Interesting comment about copyright. Thanks

    • @tinyworldsofwonder
      @tinyworldsofwonder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, John! Sorry about the limitations of the links I posted. I suspect the light pad will come back into stock when the supply chain issues from China work themselves out, but in the mean time, I wonder if an arts supply seller in the UK would have an easel. My local art supply store sometimes has these in stock. Dick Blick is one of my favorites here in the states, but I don't know if there's an equivalent in the UK. Sorry I am not more help since I'm not familiar with UK-based chains. :)

      Hi thanks for your help and have managed to source both an easel and light pad. Your videos are very informative and helpful, never realised about the copyright issue and being new to the subject purchased the cheaper options, had a look at the Treasure Studios website and impressed at their aftercare service and its certainly worth paying more for quality. Woul assume though that diamond painting is a female dominated activity so perhaps I am a bit of loner in this hobby. Take care and stay safe. John

    Thanks for the tips. Especially that last one because I'm always looking at sites for new diamond paintings and I've never even thought that they might be stolen images or art. I'm all about giving credit to the artist because I know how hard they work to create their masterpieces and I have so much respect for their talent. I'll be sure to check from now on to see that I'm not buying stolen art .

    Hi I’m new here. I just watched this and I really appreciate the info. I purchased my very first dp last week and I’m waiting for them to be delivered. Since then, I’ve been watching all the dp videos.
    I didn’t even think about image licensing when I was buying and I ended up purchasing from a company that rips off artists.
    I unfollowed them and won’t buy from them again. I bought another from Paint Gems. Have you used Victoria moon? I bought another one from them, I need to find out if they used licensed art.
    Anyway, thanks for this very informative video! I’m super excited for my dp kits to be delivered so I can get started 🤗

      Yureli Oliveira Hi, Yureli!! Welcome to the addiction! I hope you have a blast working on your paintings. I have tons of paintings from when I first started and didn’t know about all this licensing stuff. When we know better, we can do better, right? I have looked at Victoria’s moon, and while I can’t say for sure, there are definitely images on their site that raise red flags for me. Thanks for caring, and it’s great to have you here on the channel!

    Great tips, especially 5 and 7! I bought a poor quality canvas from what is probably a non-copyright supplier & received what I, unfortunately and unbeknownst to me, paid for - a CHEAP imitation in more ways than 1!!! My cousin, who 'opened the door to the wonderful world of DP' for me had the same misfortune with the same supplier...Thanks for the tips. Also, I missed the list of canvases and loved the lady with butterflies towards the beginning of the video. Would you please let me know the name of the canvas and supplier?

      Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I had many like this when first starting out, and as you so aptly point out, we really do get what we pay for in the world of diamond painting. I believe the canvas you're referring to is probably the gorgeous Sleeps with Butterflies from DIY Moon Shop. :) They license this lovely artist.

    Thanks for the tips, esp no 7, regarding infringement. I have been very doubtful re some kits that are being sold on Shoppee (from China) that are going for less than USD4 (with free shipping!), for a 20cm x 20cm. I have been watching quite a few videos re diamond painting, and yours is the first that mentions this important point. Some shops in Etsy do not list the artists too.
