I had a question about perio maintenance. Right now I work up front but soon I will be doing hygiene. I have ran into an issue with two patients about this. They refuse to have the perio maintenance after they have had their SRPs done because they want the prophy (which their insurance covers 100%). On top of that, they told me to show them proof that they can't have a prophy done. Again arguing because they want what the insurance covers. I hope you can help me!
I have this same issue as a hygienist. They want to do the two free cleanings and then pay for the other two perio maint. I explain exactly what was said in the video. Then I explain that the insurance companies offer free prophys as an incentive for healthy people to stay healthy because preventing disease is alot more expensive than treating, and unfortunately their condition doesn't call for a prophy. It's like using a wrap on a broken bone instead of a cast.
InspiredHygiene, if you don't have pockets or 5mm perio depths, but have bone loss what can cause bone loss if you don't have any gum diseases or gingivitis?
yes normally, there is a code to use. The ins co knows it is protocol to do this type of moure thorough cleaning 4 x a year instead of 2 x a year. Call your ins co and ask.
What would be active infection?

Grinding and clenching, crooked teeth: any issue that puts excessive force on teeth will do it.
Will dental insurance pay for scaling every 3 months?
