  • Hi everyone,
Hope you are all having a lovely Sunday wherever you are. Unfortunately Kate is still feeling poorly this week, so was unable to make a video. Kate had been planning on taking you all for a look around her daughter Martha's incredible allotment (as there had been people asking what an allotment was in a previous video) so Martha and Adam very kindly filmed a tour of their allotment for us this week. They have created such a productive, beautiful space in the past 18 months - it's been really wonderful to watch.
I had so much fun editing this one - I really hope you enjoy it. Kate should hopefully be back making videos soon - it is taking much longer than she expected to recover.
    Love,
    Anna xx

I thought Martha looks a lot like Kate too. And I noticed that the no meat thing seems to run in the family also.
Thank you, Martha, for explaining the allotment. I thought it might have been a community garden thing. Do you freeze or can any of your produce? Cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower are winter crops. Will you be growing those, or are the winters too severe there? There isn't anything like homegrown anything. So much more tasty than commercially grown. Working in the garden is also good exercise, plus you walk to it. You said you can't put up structures over a certain height. So the poly tunnel is allowed, not too high? Great job.
Thank you John, Anna, Martha and Agnes for helping out Kate.

How lovely this video is! I think you should do a regular feature Martha, with Agnes and John. You are very good on the camera. Hope Kate is recovering. I have had several bouts with vertigo and it is not fun at all. It leaves you feeling quite helpless. Agnes has many of the same facial expressions as Kate does. Precious little one💕

Hey Kate, I hope that you are recovering from your illness! Martha, I really enjoyed your talk about allotments, and watching Agnes eat her favorite vegetables. Do you dry the flowers, bring them to your mom or take them to your home? Do you give the chickens and Eileen the greens from the beets? Do you can or freeze your vegetables? You have done wonders with that bit of land! Nice flowers and vegetables, Martha, Adam & Agnes!

What a joy to see you, Martha, Adam, and Agnes!! I really enjoyed the allotment tour and everything looks wonderful. The views are so beautiful, as well! I’m sad to hear that Kate is still not feeling 100%, but I’m sure she’ll be feeling herself very soon. We have a fairly good sized back yard here in Indiana, and up until last year we had mostly lawn and a few trees. My husband started a vegetable garden last year, like everyone, and has expanded quite a bit this past spring, and, I know, that he would love nothing better than to make the whole yard into a garden, including the front yard! I would love see your allotment through the year as well as seeing what Anna and John are getting up to. I’ve missed seeing Kate but it’s been fantastic seeing Kate’s wonderful family as well!!! Thank you and take care!! 🥰

Thank you for the tour of your amazing garden Martha. I loved learning about the influence and knowledge you gained from your grandfather and mother. The lushness of your bounty shows that you are carrying on the family tradition. Seeing Agnes pick and munch on veggies was a delight as was being in you company during your meal, "Farm-to-table." Anna terrific editing as usual and love the music you chose. I'm going to look that fellow up.

How kind of all of you to help out your mom this way. Really enjoyed seeing a little bit of your lives. We have allotments here as well in Northern Ontario but they aren't as popular as they are in the UK. I'm lucky and have a fair sized yard, even though I'm in a neighbourhood so I can grow pretty much as much as I'd like or can eat. Thanks again. I imagine Kate must have loved this video with Agnes.

It was so nice to meet Agnes' family. Do you go to the allotment everyday? Are all the weeds pulled by hand? How do you keep up with it all & chase Agnes & give her naps??? Do you do a lot of canning? Or how do you preserve your harvest for winter? Martha thanks for sharing the allotment with us. It looked so nice & productive! Kate, we miss you & are patiently awaiting your return. Take care!

Thank you for another family video. 😊 The allotment looks both wonderful and bountiful which is absolutely fabulous for the bunny named Agnes. Growing food is such a great thing to teach kids, there are chores but also a sense of accomplishment, experimentation and the delight of picking and eating right from the source; food should always taste that good. The container hat may catch on😄 and I think it's good for kids to get some fresh air and a little dirty playing in the garden. I love Sunday lunch, it's a tradition I miss a great deal. I'm in Canada (totally different zone - it's cold!) but I would love to know the varieties that have been unusual or successful for you; the flowers were beautiful too btw. You have done your Mom proud; a lovely video. We all look forward to her being well soon, thanks again for letting us visit and showing us around.😊 (silly🐼 is adorable LOL)

November 25 2022: Martha how very wonderful that the family has this allotment. I wondered what that had meant. I do not have a veggie garden but when my children were little we have farms around us that we can go and pick veggies to some fruits like strawberries, apples , peaches and pumpkin patches. When my youngest one would go with his sister and I strawberry picking the farm we went to we rode on a flatbed while sitting on bales of hay and the farmer would drop off us off in the area to pick. My daughter and I would pick the strawberries and while my youngest was busy eatting them. I use to think that the farmer woulld need to weigh him first and then when we would return again! He definitely ate much more than he picked. What a very hearty lunch. I never thought of gravy to enhance the meals. Agnes is loving it. Panda? Thank you for a visit into your life style and the beautiful harvest. I have to look for the purple potatoes. Cheers.

I really enjoyed this video and thanks so much Martha, Adam and Agnes for showing us your allotment and sharing some of your life with us. It looks to be a very productive garden and I am sure you enjoy all the rewards of gardening - not just the produce. Would love to see your allotment again some time. Here in NZ more and more local communities in cities have community gardens where interested folk share in the care of a big garden and eat and/or sell the produce. There is also a huge move towards children being taught to garden at school. So fabulous to be educated about life and living as well as academic subjects. Agnes will benefit so much from learning to garden with you.Take care Kate, hope you are well enough to be back on board soon.

What a lovely tour of your allotment! I think the equivalent here in Canada would be what we call a “community garden”, but I don’t know anyone who has a plot as large as yours. Lucky Agnes to have you, Kate and the garden to learn from. My sister and I learned from our Yorkshire Grannie, who was a phenomenal gardener throughout her life. When she had to move into a care facility at 93 the managers built her several raised beds so that she could keep growing! It was her passion, which she passed on. All the best to Kate! ❤️ from 🇨🇦

Oh no! Get well soon :) Our Crystals get out of balance in our ears, so what ever side that makes you dizzy,, you have to lay on the opposite side for an hour to re set them. Then gently get up and test to see if you are still dizzy. If you are a bit dizzy still, then you need to lay on your side again for a bit. Do not lay flat on your back or you will stay dizzy.

Allotments are a paradise, wish we could have them in the States. Although they would probably rent for thousands a month, ha. I'm 78 but I can remember all my grandparents and aunts and uncles had backyard gardens and chickens in northern california. You have a beautiful allotment. I always went with my dad and my Uncle Sid to their allotment and until the last few years have grown lots of veg, kept chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys. I used to help my dad prepare both chickens and chrysanthemums for showing. This was in the days when you boxed them up and put them on the train, in the guards van, and someone from the show would come and pick them up. Now I have quite bad arthritis and the poultry and the veg have gone by the way. But it was lovely to watch you in yours and relive a bit of the pleasure you get from eating what you have grown with your own hands. Thank you x

Hi Martha! Nice to see Kate's family members in videos too. You could start your own channel, all about your allotment garden ... or your mum can show it once in a while. I have an allotment garden too, in Dutch we call it 'volkstuin' (translated: people's garden). I think they are organised somewhat different than in the UK. But anyway there's a committee too, and rules ...

Thank you for filling in and showing us your allotment. I live in the US (grew up on a farm) and seem to have a bit of a fascination with allotments. I follow Jessie at Plot37 so have learned a lot from her. It is wonderful for Agnes to grow up learning about growing food and taking care of the poultry at Grandma’s house. Nothing better for a kid than to learn where food comes from, to pick and eat veg right off the plant, to get dirty and eat some dirt. It’s good for the mind and the immune system. Looking forward to seeing the allotment through the various seasons. Cheers!

What a lovely video Martha Adam and Agnes. Your a special young lady Agnes,. Agnes definitely seems to enjoy her veg. This is something so good to see children eating. No wonder you are a very proud grandma Kate. Why wouldn’t you be. Nice well stocked allotment , the produce looks very good quality and tasty. Thank you all for your time. Very kind of you to share some of your time with us, and giving mum a little bit longer to recover. I am sure that will help her no end. I hope your feeling a bit easier as well Kate., enjoy those lovely flowers. If I grow Dahlias they get eaten by slugs . And they would never look like yours Martha. So I don’t even bother trying to grow them here. Shame as they are so colourful.. keep the good work up, it’s definitely worth your efforts.

Hi Martha, Adam and Agnes. It's me the lady who crocheted those baby clothes and blankets for Angnes 2 years ago.
I know allotments. When I was a kid there were allotments very close to our home. I always looked at it from afar. My parents didn't garden at all.
This is amazing. Look at all those cucumbers and tomatoes. It's so nice to see Agnes walk around and snack. That polly tunnel is amazing. Those leeks looked amazing. That's one if my favourite veggies. I grew things on my small balcony. Peppers, jalapeños and grew peas once. When you grow it yourself it tastes so much better. I love it to see more of your allotment in the future. It was nice to see you all. And Kate I know you're reading comments 😉 so take your time. Get well soon and if you need more time, take it. Love to all from the Netherlands ❤ 👋🏻 🇳🇱

AH HA! Allotment = Garden Plot, but not necessarily on your property. Got it. I had that very question. Its worth to have one just to see the toddlers munch away at the produce. Why is it that some children adore veg and others not? My grandson is pretty close to being a carnivore. Hurray, an Adam sighting! I've been watching for well near three years and don't think I have ever "met" him. Only one left, thats Owen. Have not met him either. Agnes, SOOOO adorable. Lovely family, thanks for sharing your moments with us. That pic of the flowers in the cup on the table was beautiful. Think it should be on one of Kates cards.

Oh my, I really really enjoyed this video, home grown food produce is not my thing, but so lovely to meet you Martha and as always Agnes, I seen my younger self in her, short hair, not in a dress and just being who she is.....and in the wheelbarrow 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Martha you are so much like your mum in many ways, I as we probably all do hope to see a lot more of you in future videos, blessings

What a beautiful garden! Do you leave the tunnel up all year or do you take it down for winter? Perhaps you and Adam and Kate could do a video on building a poly tunnel, I would love to see how you do it. Best wishes to Kate. Thanks to all of you for stepping in during this time. It is easy to see why Agnes is the family star!

In Germany we have similar system called "Kleingarten" (small garden). I had to laugh so hard, when you talked about people loving rules. That does apply to some "Kleingarten"-groups as well.
Kate, get well soon! I'm so glad that you are blessed with helpful children. You must have done something very well in their upbringing. :o))

A lovely tour. You have some amazing produce growing there- definitely a green thumb! So wonderful to have your own little garden paradise to fill your fridge and provide endless fun and learning for Agnes- and for you! Thank you! Hope your mum is better soon- vertigo is so awful!

Wonderful to see your allotment. We kind of have that here. More a community garden. We live on a farm and I grew up on an acre of ground. My mom gardened and canned lots of food for us. 5 kids and her and Dad.

Since I’m fairly new subscribed I am behind in watching videos. What fun listening to Martha, you sound just like your mum. Thank you for sharing your garden & home. I very much enjoyed the tour, Adam did a great job filming & watching little Agnes munch her way thru the garden, so cute. Sorry to hear mum had vertigo, Ugg! I know just how she feels as I get it too. Thank you for sharing. ❤️

Thank you Martha for this inspiring video, have an average garden with a space to grow some veg, was thinking during COVID that i may take on a small allotment here in the UK, as i did not seem to grow enough fruit and veg to sustain me throughout the year. looking into it a bit more, having been made redundant from my last job, it seems more appropriate. Always thought that running an allotment was so much hard work and did not feel that i could do it! After watching several videos i am getting more and more nearing to make a decision about this . Thank you for keeping the channel up and running with lots of interesting videos, it was lovely to see Agnes an you Martha in the garden, Agnes is so adventurous in her eating skills which i believe in when a child grows from seed to harvesting, which is something i am trying to do with my Grandsons. keep well Kate, hope you get better soon xxx

I can't believe how well the garden is still doing. Very cool that you have an allotment and that it's within walking distance. The price is quite reasonable. My grand-kids eat better out of the garden too. Being able to grow upwards over outwards is always a plus with a smaller gardening space. I ended up looking allotments up. Hopefully your mom will be much better soon. You are all doing well keeping things going for her in her stead. Our gardens here are done...too cold now.

Nothing beat watching a child in a vegetable garden. Agnes will grow up with a great understanding of gardening and the produce it can provide.

Hello Martha, it's lovely to meet you and tell you what a good job you're doing in front of the camera. Your allotment is an example of joyful abundance both of produce and opportunities for Agnes to learn useful and interesting new things. Love to Kate, hope she's feeling better when you see her tomorrow.
