    Silesaurids as basal ornithischians makes a lot of sense to me. Great video!

    When i was a kid Pisanosaurus was an ornithischian but as an adult it could be both an ornithischian or a silesaurid. If it's not an ornithischian then we have no record for ornithischian until the very start of the early jurassic bringing up the controversial question of where they originated in the fist place.

      Basal ornithisician would probably look similar to Kulindadromeus

      I'd say that Pisanosaurus may be an Ornithischian

      Depending on where silesaurids are placed, pisanosaurus could be both

    The 2017 paper that claimed Sauropodamorpha were the outgroup was almost purely based on fuzzy body-covering, which is flawed because body-covering varies even within families of Dinosaurs. There was a later study that covered the multiple times herbivory evolved in Dinosauria, & it seem to support the more traditional placement of Ornithischia being the outgroup.

      Yeah I was never really onboard with the Ornithoscelida hypothesis from the beginning. Seems the traditional interpretation is better supported.

      now that the fuzzy covering may be even in pterosaurs this doesn't make much sense.

    Thank you for sharing this best understanding of this colossal and charismatic group. We can only hope to see the ornithischian Rosetta Stone in our lifetimes, one that could properly tidy up the relationships between the major groups as well

    Such a shame that, thanks too political relationships between the US and Venezuela or Iran for that matter it's difficult/impossible to do research in clearly ancient rockformations in those countries. It would greatly help archeology, paleonthology and biology and therefore science overall to understand the history of life on Earth.

    Silesaurids being actualy stem ornithishians would be yet another nail in ornithoscelida coffin, showing basal ornithischians having more "primitive" traits then saurischia.
    Alternative exploraiton fo Or. poor fosil record in triasic might by taphonomic bias (my personal sugestion is early evolution of ornithishians happened in some enviroment with poor fosilization of bones such as forest or mountains).
    Another alternative (and let´s be real this one will go into taxonomic fanfic territory) might be ornithishians being in fact more inside theropoda with basal theropods being stem ornithoscelida and ornithischians separated from theropods in early jurrasic period.

      If silesaurids are stem Ornithicians wouldn't that mean that the dinosaurian traits in Ornithicians are convergent? Wouldn't that mean that Ornithicians aren't dinosaurs but derived silesaurids instead?

      Nah, because Dinosauria is defined as every animal descended from the common ancestor of Triceratops and the house sparrow. If ornitischians are in fact derived silesaurs, they by definition are still dinosaurs, and so are the silesaurs.

We'd feed them and they'd peck the ground near the pieces of bread we gave them they literally missed by meters I don't know why they do this

    Do you think that the evolutionary pressures on carnivorous animals is greater than herbivores? If it is a principle, then it makes sense that dinosaurs evolved from small carnivorous ancestors.
    I can't help but think that herbivory evolution is more driven by slow changes to the environment such as climate whereas carnivory is driven by how much better you can catch and eat which makes me think that adaptations among carnivores is faster.

    The Theropoda/Sauropodamorpha - Ornithischia split seems the most likely, while the Sauropodamorpha/Herrerasauridae - Theropoda/Ornithischia split, and the Theropoda - Sauropodamorpha/Ornithischia split, really don't make as much sense.

      No - 2 of the 3 founding members of Dinosauria are Ornithischian (Iguanodon & Hylaeosaurus) while another helps define the cladistic definition of dinosaur (Triceratops). If silesaurs are Ornithischians, then they automatically become dinosaurs.

      That's impossible because when the clade Dinosauria was established in 1842 it was proposed as a way to group Megalosaurus, Iguanodon and Hylaeosaurus. So by definition Dinosauria includes the last common ancestor of these 3 animals and all of its descendants. Since Iguanodon and Hylaeosaurus are both ornithischians that means that this group are definitely dinosaurs. The same goes for theropods, because of Megalosaurus. What can happen however is that if hypothetically, although I doubt it, the Ornithoscelida theory turns out to be correct, then an argument can be made that Sauropodomorphs may not be dinosaurs because they are not part of the group by definition and their inclusion depends on their relationships with the 3 aforementioned taxa. Though l'm pretty sure that if this ever happened an excuse will be made to let them remain dinosaurs for traditional reasons, like they changed rules of the nomenclature so that T.rex wouldn't have to become Manospondylus gigas.
