- President Marcos says no to Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel's suggestion to equip Philippine ships with water cannons to defend itself from Chinese aggression in the West Philippine Sea.
In a chance interview with reporters, Marcos explicitly said no to the proposal, saying the Philippines has “no intention of attacking anyone with water cannons or any other such offensive.”

if you actually took the time to think about it, PH attacking and defending their sovereign rights will only give China reason to attack you guys, even if you return the water vessel retaliation back. Deporting an ambassador is actually a far more serious escalation than using water cannons in return. That kind of signals the end of diplomatic relationships and may result in total breakdown of relationships between two countries. Bear in mind that while China and Philippines are territorial rivals (or rather, Philippines is a victim of China's territorial ambitions). The two are still major economic trade partners. To severe diplomatic ties could result in severing trade as well. China will definitely be able to weather such collapse but this will harm the Philippines quite significantly. Not an "economic collapse" as the other guy said, cause Philippines can actually mitigate and find workarounds for this but, it'll definitely hurt. And a lot of Filipinos are just not in a position to weather this "hurt".
